While waiting for a train to her sister's, Rosie witnesses the reunion of Jack and Phryne, upon the dark-haired detective's return from England, and sees what she hadn't been able to see before.

Post s3. Phryne arrives back in Australia and is instantly thrown into a case which nearly costs her her life. As they work on new cases together, Phryne and Jack must also confront the mystery surrounding their own relationship, which is further complicated by an unexpected surprise which will change both their lives forever.

After seeing Jack and Concetta out for dinner, Phryne believes that Jack truly has given her up and found his happiness. She spent too long coming to her realizations and now, he was gone. (Also posted on AO3. Same username) Rated M just for safety.

A murder that may not be what it seems, and a manservant who may not be what he claims. Jack and Phryne each have their own mysteries to solve; as ever, it's unlikely they'll manage their challenges alone.

The working title for this was Dot goes Rogue, which should give you some idea of the line this story takes. Phryne's free lifestyle choices lead Dot to take stock of her relationship with Hugh and how they can move forward.

In the fourth episode of the third season, Phryne comes home in the wee morning hours after dancing all night. Young Paddy hires her to investigate strange happenings in Collingwood, and she doesn't catch a moment's rest. She eventually gets to change clothes, but she works far into the next night without stopping. She's exhausted. Jack notices and takes care of her.
