Following the aftermath of the failed assassination attempt on the King, Athos, rejected by his Majesty as a Musketeer, leaves Paris behind. There is something he must see, something he should have done long rhaps then he can return to Paris and attempt to form a new life, whether that life will include the Musketeers, only fate will decide.

Aramis still blames himself for the slaughter of his brothers at Savoy. At the funerals of his brothers he is unaware of being watched by someone who wants revenge on the musketeer because he survived when others died screaming. The man has bided his time for five years now. Now the time is up, he will pay with his own blood.

When the musketeers seek shelter from a storm, they find themselves at the mercy of an evil mortal men cannot hope to withstand.

Paris 1629 and relations between France and Spain are seriously threatened. Treville is under pressure from the King and Cardinal to find those responsible for the treachery but investigations have repercussions for all involved. Danger comes too close to home, the Inseparables are missing and Treville needs a new second-in-command.

The villagers say the cave is haunted by the spirit of a man who met a horrific end. The Inseparables didn't believe it, not really. Not until they decided to investigate the disappearances of local children and find more than they bargained for. Now it's a race for their lives against time and the darkness.
