A new lawyer is not what she seems, and she's got the homicide squad all in a tizzy; Bayliss takes a shine to her, but Munch is suspicious. Munch is a better detective than anyone gives him credit for, but Bayliss has a dark side.

Remember when Bayliss and Ballard went on a date? What happened after the art gallery? My friend K wrote a short scene in which Bayliss confessed to Ballard that he was essentially bisexual, and with her permission I carried on from there. The memories were all there, the images flipping through their minds, faster and faster...almost like a photo album in which they could remember everything, but at the same time, the edges weren't as clear as they'd once been.

Department faces, redball cases, and personal lives in between, it didn't matter. They were still the first shift, and they were still murder police...a kind of makeshift family that filled in for the real ones that left them behind.

In the aftermath of the squad room shootout, Kellerman thinks about time, how it's measured, and how a few brief seconds can feel like an eternity.
