For me, life after Captain James Nicholls was simple- it would never exist. I willingly gave up...and yet, all that changed when the major of his regiment came to tall. A tale beginning at the conclusion of the Great War, and of the ending Major Stuart should have been given.

The Tale of Captain Nicholls and his sweetheart (Elizabeth); before he joins the army, when he becomes Captain, before and after he goes to war , the cavalry charge. Then he falls asleep for a few decades. When he wakes in the 21st century, he tries to track down Elizabeth's grave, which leads to friendship and overcoming his grief leading to new love and a new life.

What started as a writing workshop exercise turned into a multi-chapter request by a friend. This has elements of both the movie AND the book (which you should read!), plus a few characters I have added. This is what if Captain Nicholls was only wounded in the charge and was captured by the Germans. In a German hospital, he meets a nurse who will help plan his escape.

The characters in this story are OOC. David always found Albert annoying, but feelings are discovered as he has to deal with the upcoming war. It is from David's POV.

Captain Nicholls (Tom Hiddleston) is shot in battle and awakes hours later to find nothing but death and destruction around him. He decides to flee the army and go back to his family, but cannot go on. Obviously, I do not own War Horse or it's characters.
