Charlie ran for the apartment building as quick as she could. Damn her for choosing these red boots to wear. They looked great and cute but were not for running. Charlie weaved through people and flicked off many of them when they said something. She rounded the corner and saw Quil just opening his car door. Quil heard the running of boots and Charlie's heartbeat so he decided to walk slowly to the sidewalk.
"I'm here. I'm here, I'm not late," Charlie was waving her arms and smiling brightly. Quil saw her in his flannel and beamed back. She looked fantastic in it. Way better then he ever did.
"I thought I was going to be the late one," he chuckled and ran his hand through his hair. He flexed a tad bit incase she was watching from behind her sunglasses which she totally was.
"I had to walk Kim to orientation. I stayed outside the door making sure she didn't bolt just in case," Charlie bent over catching her breath as Quil leaned against his car laughing at her state.
"Jared is missing the hell out of her," he understated. Missing was not even touching the surface on how Jared was feeling.
"She's missing him just as much believe me. But, hey? You weren't missing me?" She was joking but not really. She wanted someone to miss her as bad as Kim was missing Jared.
"Of course I missed you, duh," he rolled his eyes jokingly but he meant it. She had no idea how much he meant it. Once she caught her breath she started walking towards the taco truck that would be parked two blocks away.
"So what do you do for work? I never asked," Charlie wanted to know all she could about this man. Charlie wanted this man which has never happened.
"Construction. Jared's dad owns the company," technically what he was saying wasn't a total lie. Jared's dad did own a construction company. They just didn't work there anymore since they phased. Now they are full time wolves and get paid by the elders council.
"Oh, neat. Just seems like crazy hours," she was thinking about Kim saying Jared was working doubles and how Quil would be working tonight. She never knew construction workers to work nights.
"It can be some days. You must really love tacos, huh?" Quil changed the subject to something else to distract her.
"Love them. But next time I'll take you somewhere else. Thai or maybe sushi," Charlie loved in people to new foods. Charlie would eat anything and everything.
"Sushi? Like raw fish?!" Quil exclaimed. He never dreamed of eating sushi. The Rez and forks both had no such thing so he never tried it. Also the raw fish thing threw him off.
"No, no. They have fried rolls. Like my favorite is the spider roll! Fried crab meat, avocado, rice, seaweed, spicy sauce," she was practically drooling. Quil noted that in his mind for a day to surprise her with.
"Well, I'll try it if it's with you," he told her as Charlie moved her sunglasses up onto her head. Her eyes were infamously bloodshot.
"I'll have to take you up on that one day. But for now, tacos," she went ahead and stood behind the only other person in line. Quil was looking at the menu but it was all in Spanish.
"Don't worry. I'll order for you," Charlie stepped up when it was their turn and spoke fluent Spanish. She ordered two beef tongue tacos and two of the specials which were chorizo with feta cheese and a fresh slaw on top.
"You know Spanish?" Quil was interested in her bilingual skills. Charlie laughed a bit, kind of embarrassed.
"I learned it only a few years ago honestly but yes," Charlie only had time a few years ago to learn another language when she wasn't so focused on getting into a college and securing herself a place to live and learn rather then turn into a statistic of foster kids on the streets. Quil smiled proudly, she was a smart one. They stood in silence for a moment while they waited. Charlie looked up and down the street people watching where Quil only watched her. Once Charlie's name was called the both went up and grabbed the food before heading over to a bench. They sat down and Charlie gave one beef tongue and one chorizo to Quil and took the other two to herself.
"Should I ask what these are?" He stared questioningly at them. She smiled large and shook her head no before digging in herself. Quil laughed and started eating before pausing realizing these were the best things he had ever eaten.
"Good, huh?" She said in between bites. Quil nodded unable to pull his mouth away from the food until he was done. Once they were done eating Charlie grabbed all the trash before Quil could and threw it away in a trash can near by.
"Come on, I have a few chores to do around the apartment before Kim gets out of her orientation," Charlie sadly announced. They both knew it was time to split ways then. The rule was they could see whoever they wanted to on weekdays, only on weekends though were boys or girls allowed to come into the apartment. Kept anyone from being distracted by school.
"So, you work tonight then?" Charlie asked knowing it would be a yes.
"I do but I'll be off around 4am so I'll still be able to get plenty enough sleep," Quil had figured out how to nap and sleep before to make his body more rested and feel better while he patrolled.
"I also work tonight and tomorrow and Thursday ," Charlie stated. Normally she only works Friday and Saturday nights but because of Quil that has changed for now. She called the club owner yesterday and opted for the Tuesday to Thursday night shift. She knew she would need three days to bring in what she was bringing in on those two short nights. Quil was doing something to her.
"Why all female?" He asked out of pure curiosity as they approached his beat up blue civic. He was happy it was all female, less threats for him but also wondering what kind of club does that.
"All female because men can be pigs. Especially when you put a naked woman in front of them. The dancers I work with have all sorts of looks. Plus size, twigs, one girl even has only one arm but the tricks so can do," Charlie exclamation in her envy of the disabled dancer. That girl had more core strength in her pinky then Charlie had in her body it seemed. Quil laughed before unlocking his car. They were both getting sad but trying not to show.
"Text me when you make it back," she said with a smile before reaching out for a hug. Electricity buzzed through both of their bodies before pulling away. Charlie pulled her sunglasses down again before walking away and heading inside her apartment building. Quil stood and waited until he saw her go in then he got in his car to head back home.
