Chapter 12: Indecision
Gar watched the door close behind LaserBlast and felt the tips of his ears burn with anger. He had longed for Carol to love him for years and now she finally did! And, Laser just came back and wanted to take that from him. It infuriated him. But, it also made him scared and doubt himself.
Carol turned towards Gar and saw his red face and she swiftly stood from the dining room table.
"Eugene?" Carol said, softly. Gar immediately softened his face at Carol. Carol walked to his side and put a soft hand on his muscular shoulder.
"Come on. Let's go outside," Carol motioned towards the door and Eugene nodded but his muscles tensed. The two walked out of Carol's home and Carol shut the front door.
Eugene looked down at his love. Carol looked back at him and then slowly back at the ground.
"Eugene?" Carol said in a whisper.
"Yes, Carol?," He said and in his mind he imagined the worst scenario and felt an instant dread.
"...I kissed Laser last night," She confessed and brought her hand to her face as she averted her eyes from his gaze. She was disappointed in herself.
But, Gar was quiet for a moment to think and Carol looked up towards him.
"Eu-," Carol began but Gar stopped her and began to speak.
"I don't want to treat you like a prize, Carol. If you want LaseBlast as your partner, I won't stand in your way," Gar said, showing his softer and vulnerable side. Carol looked up at him with her eyebrows knitted.
She knew her indecision was hurting him and it hurt her to know that she couldn't be the one to comfort him. But, She grabbed his hand anyways and rested her head on his shoulder in a sense of defeat.
Gar didn't pull away from the touch but he did not lean into her. The two stayed that way and Carol felt a few tears fall down her cheeks.
"I love you, Eugene. But, I never stopped loving Laser. I just don't know what to do anymore. I thought Laser being back was going to solve a lot of problems but I think it just made more," Carol admitted and Gar put his arm around Carol's shoulders.
"I'll be around as long as you want me to be Carol," Gar promised and Carol looked up at him and felt more tears slide down her cheeks.
"I know. You always have been," She said with a small laugh as she let herself fully cry. Gar pulled her into his large arms.
