It was time to see Samuel Lane. I wasn't going to do it with Lois' permission or knowledge. This just had to be done regardless. It wouldn't do much good but it didn't matter. I had to do it anyway. I flew bodily for his campaign headquarters in Metropolis; it was also his residence for the duration. His many private security and secret service detail were there to confront me. "The general is very busy wonder woman; he's not seeing anybody right now." "I really need to speak with the general; it's as simple as that."

I took a step forward; their guns were out but held low. This was in broad daylight; many were watching. This could go kinetic at any moment... "Wait!" It was Lucy Lane. "Stand down everyone! Stand down!" They did so. They all could have been sons of war; it wouldn't have mattered if I could sense it or not. It all linked to brother one way/another.

"Wonder woman...I regret we meet like this." "As do I Miss Lane." "Lucy; we're both former Langley after all." "True; but one never really leaves the company." "Also true. But this...is hardly the company though." "It relates." "How so?" "National security." "Wonder woman, if this is about my father's superhero views...they are Lex's. And Lex is running for president." "I'm very aware of that - Miss Lane." She stiffened at my sustained formality. "You don't fully realize what is happening here; the complexities..." "I know that hundreds of black Americans are dead because of you and the other senior league members..." I scoffed. "My brother Ares was controlling them with his agents - and still is." She frowned at that last part. "Still?" "As I said - it's complicated. This is magical stuff Miss Lane. Even American might can't deal with that alone." "And what of Sergeant Garren and your hiding him from justice?" "Jim Garren is family; my family. His father is Ares." This stunned her. "He will not be handed over to you under any circumstances." She nodded at the Jim part. "Okay; but many in this country are angered beyond measure wonder woman. That can't just be let go of." "I'm not saying that; but I am saying you don't fully understand what is happening here. There are, simply put, forces here operating beyond your comprehension. You must trust my judgment on this."

Lucy could only shake her head. "My father and Lex will never accept this. You've pushed them away from supporting the league." "Lex is a super villain Lucy; wake up." "He's the leading candidate for the election; and your actions of late have made our victory that more likely."

I sighed. "Lucy - Lois is concerned about you both." "Well, tell her she doesn't need to be; it's not like she's helped father through the hard times of late anyway. The government was so hard on him before he retired. Our brave can't do their jobs anymore." That was actually one thing we could agree on. "Exactly Lucy. Lex and your father are giving my brother what he wants. Don't do it." Her phone vibrated a text. "It's dad. I have to go."

She started away. "Lucy? This is your last warning to cease and desist. If you don't...the gloves come off. They'll have to." She sighed. "Do what you have to do then wonder woman. We have an election to win and a country to save."
