Jolene stood tall as she held the lighter over Victoria's head.
"get your hands off my husband Now." Jolene snarled.
"jo! Wait babe! Just calm down!" Paul urged as he stepped in front of his wife and called her by the nickname, he created for her.
"honey, I think we should hear her out."
Jolene's mouth dropped. "What?"
"I think we should hear her out. Please honey. Don't you trust me? Don't you trust my wolf?"
Jolene shoulders dropped as the lighter fell to the floor. She did trust him. she trusted him with her life. Both of them.
"Fine. alright. But the minute she slips up I'm torching her ass."
Paul grinned at his wife. His wife. Not imprint or other half, not his soul mate. No, she was his wife. His best friend. His partner. She was strong and not just some door mat.
The trio went into the room, but Paul led them unto the balcony. He handed his wife a thick blanket. The smell of bleach and sugar would not permeate his honeymoon suite tonight.
"Alright leech, you have our attention, now speak." Paul commanded
Victoria took an unnecessary breath. How would she explain all this?
"Speaking wont really convince you. If you let me I would like to show you…both of you?"
Paul looked over at Jolene and grabbed her hand.
"fine. But no games."
Victoria nodded and locked her hands with Paul and Jolene's. Before they knew the trio found themselves in the mist of a battle.
The Cullen's and wolves on one side while side and the newborns on the other.
"wait…the Cullen's…They were there? And Where are we?" Jolene asked in shock as she looked at the memory of the seven golden eyes vampires. Her chest felt heavy. They had come back…years after she left.
"We are in my memory of what took place years ago. It's what changed my perspective…. it's what made me who I am now. and yes, they were there. I thought Paul would have told you?" Victoria replied.
Paul wasn't paying attention he was focusing on the memory. Something nudging his mind.
The memory continued from Victoria's perspective. The clearing was full of chaos as wolves and vampires fought. However, there was one pivotal moment that shook them to their core. They saw a younger looking Paul. Well his wolf anyway but you could tell he was still young. Paul was diving for a vampire when another one with red hair came up behind him and grabbed his leg. Paul tried to shake him off but didn't work. The red headed male in one swift motion ripped pauls leg off however, it didn't seem like Paul was phased because he tried to bite his head off. Paul was able to tear an arm off, but the male was able to push Paul off of him. the force of the push caused Paul to land headfirst onto a rock knocking him out.
"I'm sorry Paul. Something tells me there's a lot you don't remember?" Victoria asked
Paul nodded "no. I don't remember. All I could feel was the anger from being around so many newborns. And then I blacked out, so when I woke up without a leg and that vampire doctor standing over me you can imagine how I felt." He then turned to Jolene.
"I …I guess some of my memory of the battle went away with that hit to the head. It explains a lot of things. I completely forgot the Cullen's were there…I'm sorry honey…this must be hard for you?"
Jolene wordlessly shook her head. She couldn't find the words right now. She had not been exposed to vampires for seven years. She forgot how much they affected her. how much they had affected her.
The trio continued to watch Victoria memory of the aftermath of the battle. She had escaped without damage, but they could feel her rage or her former rage.
"I was so angry at the time. I just wanted revenge. Revenge on the Cullen's, revenge on you. "she said as she looked at Jolene " of course things never go the way you plan them."
The memory changed to Victoria far away from the clearing but in front of her was someone jolene never thought she would see again.
Edward Cullen.
Next to him was jasper hale. Once again, the emotion of rage was felt.
"Where is she! why are you hiding her!" Victoria memory replayed.
"I am not hiding her Victoria! She's been out of my life for years! She's long gone. She was just a pet! Just a distraction. I left her a long time ago. In the woods."
"I don't believe you! Where is she!" Victoria hissed "you claimed you loved her so much! Why would you just leave her!"
"… I told you she was just a distraction! Her blood sang to me! But she became too much of a liability! And if you really want to know where she is, she is in phoenix! Phoenix Arizona! At least that's what the wolf's memory shows!"
"he …told you where I was?" Jolene said in shock. She knew Edward Cullen had stopped caring but she never knew he was that selfish.
Victoria felt something behind her. of course the empath would try to attack. With ease she evaded him and ran into the woods. She was going to find Bella swan….and kill her.
The memory again changed. It showed Victoria standing over a sleeping Charlie. A woman with black hair sleeping next to him.
"Sue!" Paul and Jolene said at once.
"oh my gosh! Oh my gosh the wedding ring…" Jolene said as she started to piece things togather. "Charlie married sue!"
The memory showed Victoria touching Charlie arm and absorbing all of his memories. Victoria gasped as she pulled her hand away. her face full of shock and emotion that she couldn't properly express.
The scene changed to Victoria watching a depressed Jolene at the time known as Bella slice her wrist open in a room that eggshell white. The door to that room opened as orderlies quickly came in to stop her. That same night showed a very thin Jolene in a padded room, crying her eyes out. The only form of light came from a window that showed the moon.
The moon began to illuminate a figure sneaking into that room. Jolene was curled into a ball holding her wrapped up wrist.
"…I once hated you… once I would have loved to see you this weak and sad. Heartbroken and defeated but now…all I can do is …feel your pain. The pain of not wanting to live because you feel so unwanted. Well Bella swan. Im going to do everything in my power to make sure that doesn't happen to you…I'm so sorry. Until we meet again."
The trio watched the memory of Victoria slowly run her fingers through Jolene's matted hair. once again, the scene changed. It showed a rage filled Victoria trick Charlie swan and then threaten him to stay away from Bella.
Victoria's emotions filled the last memory. Her emotions of why a father would abandon his daughter? Of why would he let Edward Cullen hurt her like that? and then to barely visit the girl as it was.
Before they knew it the trio was back on the hotel balcony. It was snowing and cold but no on said a word. Too much had been revealed and in such a short time.
"… Do you understand. Now? Why I am here?" Victoria asked
" I understand why you did what you did but that doesn't explain why you're here now?" paul asked
"…. Jolene ..has been involved with vampires. Thiers bound to be more. To pop up around here…For now…I'm your body guard. Look, I can't explain it. I just…have a very bad feeling. I am here for your protection. At least until you head home."
"protection? Form what? Other vampires?" Jolene asked
"…yes…but humans too. Look, you guys should get inside…it's getting late…I've said all I could for tonight and I'm sure there's much you two have to talk about. Get some sleep. I'll be back the day after tomorrow."
With that said Victoria jumped off their balcony and disappeared.
Paul was left holding a shivering Jolene. One question on their minds.
What just happened?
Chapter:
Victoria pov:
The night was cold. Of course, Victoria wouldn't feel it. she didn't feel anything…at least not until recently. All of her life vampire and human she was full of nothing but numbness. She worked all her life, with her family growing up poor she struggled to find food and shelter. No one cared for her. it wasn't until she was changed that she felt some sort of love and compassion. Of course, it was the wrong kind of love and compassion. It was the selfish jealous kind. She was a part of an all-female coven Anne, Heidi, Hilda, Mary and Noela. Anne had been her sister in her human life while the rest where beautiful women they met over time. Eventually the coven split up. They were drawing too much attention. Anne wanted Victoria to come with her, but Victoria wasn't up for it. she had met James at the time and wanted to follow him. this made Anne extremely upset. Years later when Victoria realized James true nature, she sought out her sister but was turned away, it turns out she and Heidi went on to join the volturi. While Mary and Noela went abroad. Victoria had no idea where Hilda went, and she didn't care. After she joined James coven , she realized how truly lonely she was inside. Victoria hadn't known herself or even the true intentions of those around her. James and Laurent. They didn't care. they hadn't cared. Victoria tried to ignore the signs because she couldn't stand to be alone and when James was killed, she lost her mind but Laurent dying was the last straw. Thinking of men who didn't care reminded her of Charlie swan. She saw into his memories. She was trying to track down bella swan and kill her…but instead she finds something…or someone worth fighting for. Charlie swan memories reminded her of her own father. The father who didn't care. How could a father let his seventeen year old daughter become so consumed by Edward Cullen? And how could he just let his wife take her away? the despair on Bella's face when he had her admitted was devastating. She clung to him like a life preserve and he dropped her. The two men in her life let her down and that was the worst thing of all. Victoria saw the memories of Charlie swan marrying his second wife who was a very sweet women and abandoning his daughter. She saw it before she even scared him off. He was planning on abandoning her anyway! And then he had the balls after her warning to break his daughters' heart anyway. He also stopped paying her medical bills. It was Victoria who made sure Bella was provided for. Of course, she wouldn't tell Bella this. Bella swan Also known as Jolene lahote. Well by law she was Jolene lahote. She was no longer Bella swan and that made Victoria smile. The girl had done what Victoria wouldn't do for a while and that was start over. She was able to start over. somewhere fresh and found love again. That was something Victoria wouldn't allow herself to do either. Fall in love again. She couldn't risk it and nor would she risk her heart. James had been too much, riley obsessive and she couldn't meet the expectations of her sister.
A knock sounded on Victoria's door, taking her from her thoughts. The scent of vanilla and freesia filled her nostrils and there was something else, but she didn't know what. She breathed it in deeply and to her shock there was no bloodlust. She had been holding her breathe ever since she decided she didn't want to kill the girl but now…she could breathe freely. It was like smelling a flower. Victoria ran to the door and opened it. Jolene stood with her arms wrapped around herself like she was holding herself togather. Victoria simply nodded as a sign to invite her in. she didn't even ask why. She already knew.
"..Jolene…come in you must have a lot of questions. How did you find my room?" she asked
Victoria watched as Jolene hesitated to come into the room but did after a minute. Victoria found a chair and sat down while Jolene stood. She wanted to make the girl feel comfortable.
The silence was broken when Jolene sighed.
"…What's your game Victoria? What are you not telling me and come clean about it. I'm tired of people from my past screwing me over. You got to the count of ten."
Victoria smiled she liked this new and improved Bella, or should she say Jolene. She took a good look at the girl. Her hair was long now, right to her waist. Her eyes were beautifully brown, and she had gained weight, but it was good weight. She wasn't like the skeleton of a girl she saw in the institution.
"I promise you it's no game Jolene. I speak the truth. But I understand. I spent a long time trying to kill you. You have no reason to trust me… That's something you struggle with isn't it Jolene…Trust? And I don't blame you. First your mother and then your father, Edward and Jacob…being left alone in that institution…I get it. and I know what's it like. Trust is not something you give out easily. I'm glad you have that with Paul though. He's real, authentic. And he loves you. I've seen it through his memories. ,..and I've shown you mine. be honest Jolene you felt the change in me, you just can't comprehend it and you don't understand it but I commend you for standing your ground. You've changed so much."
Victoria watched as Jolene paced back and forth listening to her words.
"..it hasn't been easy… Charlie admitting me to the hospital was the most...best and hardest thing I ever had to do. I felt abandoned and obliviously I was…Charlie visits were sparse and my mothers never. I never got phone calls or letters. Did you know that everyone in my ward got letters and phone calls of some kind and I didn't? ...Did you know, How many birthdays I spent alone locked up in a padded room with no one to talk to but myself. and Edward… Edward freaking Cullen the bastard haunted my dreams! I could see his stupid hallucination even when I was wide awake! I wish I had never met those selfish clowns and the fact that they all left. All of them it wasn't even like they let me have say or even a vote including me. No let's just do as Edward says like where was carsile and where the hell were his balls! That always annoyed me. He was just too freaking soft. …but you know what? Thiers no use complaining…I got something wonderful out of it. well two wonderful things out of it…"
Victoria gasped. She quickly got up and found herself wrapped around the small human.
"…. That's amazing! Amazing! Oh, if I were human, I would cry! Look Jolene, I know things between us have been disastrous, but I need you to trust me? Can you do that love?"
"your British!? Your from freaking England?" Jolene exclaimed as she heard the accent
Victoria turned away bashfully and said " my past is insignificant."
Jolene however wasn't having it.
"oh no you don't. if you want me to trust you, then I need you to tell me. Tell me who you are before you became a vengeance-seeking vampire and tell me what if was like having to switch from human blood to animal?"
Victoria looked at the girl in shock. Even with her own sister she had never had anyone to truly be a friend with and conversate. She was too busy evading others and being angry at the world.
Oh how things have changed. She found herself talking to Jolene about everything she could think of. Having someone ready to listen to your every thought and your every word! She talked so much she didn't realize that the poor girl had curled up on the bed and fallen asleep.
Victoria smiled… maybe she had finally found somewhere to belong.
End Victoria pov
