Chapter 14
"So I'm supposed to eat the bad vampire?" Klaus asked Jeremy. "Who is it that I'm eating?"
"Damon." Jeremy supplied.
"Damon fathered that child? That sounds devious enough for him," Klaus growled. "What did he hope to accomplish?"
"He fathered Aurora because his obsession with Elena reached a new height." Jeremy told him. "He wanted Elena but she didn't want him. Things escalated quickly after she asked him to either get rid of the booze or lock it up. He told her no and days later she was violently ill from the stench of Damon smelling like a brewery and bourbon. She left Mystic Falls and never looked back."
"Sounds like something the old me would have done," Klaus observed. "She's with my brother now and that makes all of you under our protection."
"Good." He looked and shook his head. "When she was sick that day Bonnie called and I came over...I wanted to kill Damon for even allowing her to become that sick. I told her what my plan was and she agreed. There was nothing but memories left for her in Mystic."
"Thank you," Elijah said as he gently covered Aurora. "I got you the suite across the hall." Elijah handed Jeremy a keycard.
"No problem and besides," he grinned at him, "Damon's going to be wondering if Elena's in Kansas, Tennessee, Paris, California or Florida. I purchased all those flights for two before getting the one for Vegas."
"Smart move." Elijah said to him. "That was a smart move to pull." Jeremy nodded with a smile and left to his room while he looked at Elena who was sitting on the couch with Caroline.
"Care...Damon is Aurora's father." She whispered with her face buried in the blonde's shoulder. "I was scared to tell you about this."
"So you two hooked up, one night stand or what?" Caroline asked. "Why did you leave him?"
"We never hooked up." Elena told her. "That day I saw you guys off he had a witch magically impregnate me. I've never been with him in any way." She took a breath. "He and I would argue too much and one day I nearly begged him to lock up or get rid of the booze, he didn't and when he came back to the Salvatore boardinghouse where I had been living-not by my choice mind you-he smelled like a brewery and bourbon which got me ill. I left and started living in New York with Jeremy and Matt."
"You should have called. I'm like your best friend. I deserved to know," Caroline chided. Bonnie passed by them on her way to Elena's room to get a peek at Aurora. She and Kol had come as soon as she got Elena's text. She slipped a toddler Rapunzel doll under the covers with the little girl as Kol stood beside her.
"I should have but I was scared Care. Put yourself into my spot-this one vampire who you thought of as a friend has a witch magically impregnate you and then barely acknowledges the baby." She whispered. "I was scared because I knew you wanted children and Katherine ripped it away from you. I was scared because every night I dreamt about telling all of you...those dreams became nightmares." She didn't want them to know how badly those nightmares hurt her.
Caroline sighed and then hugged Elena.
"It's okay. It's all behind us now."
"How am I going to break this to Stefan? She's his niece." Elena whispered to her.
"I don't know but the truth would be good." Caroline whispered. "Tell him everything-tell us all everything-and no matter what we will be there for you."
Elena nodded sadly.
"Sorry for ruining your bachelor-bachelorette party." She told her softly. "I don't think that I'll be doing many more of the festivities."
"Can't Jeremy watch her while we're out? Bonnie has the rooms protected," Caroline suggested.
Elena bit her lower lip and nodded.
"I thought he would like some time hanging out with friends and enjoying the bachelor party."
"I invited you to be with me for this," Caroline looked hurt.
"Jeremy can watch Aurora so that way, you can have fun." Elijah whispered. "I'll make sure of that."
"I don't mind," Elena replied, "I'm her mother. It's my responsibility to look after her."
"True but you need to live a little." He told her with a smile and a kiss to her temple.
Elena smiled at him. As she walked with him to her room Bonnie and Kol had just laid the doll next to the sleeping girl and were smiling at her.
"She's beautiful," Kol whispered.
"Yeah she really is. Elena's lucky that she gets to be mom," Bonnie smiled.
"Maybe we should go back to bed." He suggested. "We can play with her in the morning."
"Yes let's go to bed," Bonnie smiled. "I think I'm a little drunk."
"A little-bunny you out drank a Scotsman," Kol chuckled.
"I don't remember anything after that, you?" She asked him.
"I don't." He said. They didn't see the bands on their fingers but Elijah did and decided not to mention it until the morning.
"Come on take me to drunk I'm bed," Bonnie said to Kol.
He picked her up and walked with her into their room. Elena smiled and sat down on the bed, her eyes on Aurora.
"She looks a lot like her mother," Elijah said softly from the doorway.
"She just has his eyes though." Elena whispered sadly.
"Blue is a lovely color for eyes," Elijah replied evenly.
Elena sighed sadly.
"Blue is a lovely color." Elena agreed. "I just wished she had my eyes."
"Your best friend is a witch," Elijah shrugged.
"I know that." Elena whispered before letting out a breath. "I'm not sure how to ask her to change my daughter's eye color from blue to brown."
"Just be honest with her. Bonnie is incredibly loyal to you. That's what always scared Niklaus. Caroline could be distracted and persuaded towards her own interests but Bonnie was always going to truly put your needs first."
Elena nodded softly and moved to run a hand through her hair gently.
"I can't let anything bad happen to her." She told him softly. "Damon better hope that he never sees me otherwise I'll kill him and I won't care."
"I'm afraid you may have to get in line for that," Elijah replied. He studied Aurora from his position in the doorway. He smiled as he saw the Rapunzel doll peeking out from the covers.
"She thinks that Rebekah is Cinderella so when she sees her, she may call her that." Elena said with a little smile. "You might end up being called Prince Charming."
He smiled.
"Do you think that Aurora would be okay with us dating?" He asked.
"Like I said her favorite part of any story is when the prince and princess get together," Elena replied trying to hide her blush.
"So does that make you my princess?" He asked.
"Yes."
Elijah smiled, "what other stories have you been telling her?"
"I tried telling her the story of Rumple but she hated it." Elena said with a little smile. "But I've mostly told her Disney stories and made you all into interesting stories about brave princes and strong princesses who don't back down."
