Hello Everyone, Antonio Ro here with another installment of the Know Your Character series. This entry being on Yi Shi-Woon, The True Disciple of Goomoonryong.
So... whew, this entry was pretty long to be honest. With two different installments in the series being the orignal "The Breaker" and the sequel "The Breaker New Waves." There was a lot of work to be done. It was honestly fun having to go back reading this series for this entry. There were plenty of fights throughout it. Quite a bit of fanservice that isn't straight up shoved in your face, and overall the story itself was really good in my opinion. I honestly suggest giving the series a try. Especially those of you who haven't heard of it and love action based comics/manga/manhwa/manhua/ etc. I don't think you'll be disappointed in it. Now if the writers can get part 3 out. that would be great.
Anyways, I hope you all enjoy this entry.
Entry 13: Respect Shi-Woon Yi, The True Disciple of Goomoonryong
Name: Shi-Woon Yi
Home Reality: The Breaker Manhwa Series
First Appeared: Shi-Woon Yi first appeared in Chapter 1 of "The Breaker" manhwa and its sequel series The Breaker New Waves. Both series being written by Jeon Geuk-Jin with the artwork and drawing done by artist, Park Jin-Kwan. Both known to have worked on action heavy series prior to working on The Breaker such as Ruler of the Land and Archlord respectively.
Bio (Lore): Young Shi-Woon Yi was your average weak high school kid. He would often be picked on by other kids in his school such as Chang-Ho. Despite Shi-Woon's distaste for the injustice committed against him. Due to his weak body. Shi-Woon was unable to fight back as he lacked the physical strength to do any real damage, similarly, he risk potentially dying whenever he would engage in more intense exercises such as running. Therefore making it nearly impossible to fight back.
This would all change upon meeting Han Chun-Woo. A new teacher working at his school. While at Shi-Woon didn't think much of this new teacher. His mindset would ultimately change upon spotting him easily destroying a group of people attacking him, despite it being a 3 on 1 fight. Upon witnessing this. Shi-Woon would eventually confront Han Chun-Woo, blackmailing him into being his martial arts teacher. Which the latter accepted.
Han Chun-Woo at first didn't want to be Shi-Woon's teacher. Doing what he could to make the boy give up. Some of his attempts very nearly killing the young boy. Eventually after seeing Shi-Woon's determination to be stronger. Han Chun-Woo would take his teaching role seriously and begin training him.
Sadly, While Han Chun-Woo could teach the boy the motions for martial arts. Due to Shi-Woon having a Three Yin Body type. Shi-Woon would never advance further than that until his condition can be cured. Doing so otherwise would ultimately result in the young boy's death.
Despite this however, Shi-Woon's luck would ultimately come through in the form of Lee Shi-Ho. Another Murim martial artist that worked in the same organization as Chun-Woo. Revealing to the young boy that she had a special medicine called the One Moon Divine Dan pill in her possession. She explained that upon taking it. It would cure Shi-Woon's condition. Allowing him to practice martial arts properly.
Shi-Woon would accept the pill, quickly taking it in order to continue his training. However, the pill reacted violently upon being consumed. While it cured Shi-Woon of his condition. It suddenly forced a massive amount of Ki to circulate through the young boy's body, Causing his body to go through the beginning stages of the Overhaul Rebirth and nearly killing Shi-Woon had Chun-Woo not stepped in to save him.
Now with access to a large amount of Ki. Shi-Woon could begin training in martial arts again. However, due to the changes he was going through. His body couldn't fully handle the large amount of Ki within him. Resulting in him damaging his body with the slightest of movements.
Seeing no other choice. Han Chun-Woo would officially adopt Shi-Woon Yi as his disciple. Training the young body with what little time he had in the same style that made him one of the most powerful individuals within the Murim world. The Black Heaven and Earth style.
Despite now training under Chun-Woo. Shi-Woon, due to being officially accepted as Chun-Woo's disciple, would unknowingly get dragged into the deep end of the underground world of Murim. Shi-Woon, completely unaware of just how powerful and feared his master was. Would ultimately be targeted by various groups and organizations holding a grudge against his teacher. Dragging the young high school student into a secret war between various underground organizations within the Murim world.
Shi-Woon first real experience within the Murim world would come in contact with a young woman named Jang So-Sul, the leader of the Sun-Woo clan. For reasons unknown at the time. Jang So-Sul needed to be smuggled out of Korea. Being chased and forced into hiding by various Murim factions. Due to this meeting, Shi-Woon would ultimately spiral further into the world of Murim.
While his life would remain pretty much the same. Due to his association with his teacher as well as the fact that Jang So-Sul was with them. Shi-Woon would find himself being hunted by the various factions of the Martial Arts Alliance. Hoping to use him in order to lure out the Nine-Arts Dragon.
Learning that Chun-Woo and his team needed to leave the country with the Jang So-Sul. Shi-Woon needed to be able to avoid capture for a set amount of time. As his capture would result in Han Chun-Woo being unable to escape due to his concern with his student.
This would prompt a large scale chase. Using the Black Heaven and Earth movement skills as well as the soul crushing punch, both techniques he learned under Chun-Woo's guidance, as well as gaining help from some enemies turned allies who he had helped prior to this. Shi-Woon was able to avoid capture for over 5 hours.
But things are never that easy. As Shi-Woon did all that he could to avoid being captured. He would eventually learn that his teacher had been cornered by the Martial Arts Alliance at Koa Tower. His master having gone there. Apparently being lured there due to a false report being made, Stating that Shi-Woon had been captured and was being held there.
Realizing that his teacher was in danger due to this. Shi-Woon would make his way to Koa Tower. Hoping to save his teacher before it was too late. He would face off against several other masters. Getting past them as he made his way to the top of the tower where his teacher had been fighting various members of the Martial Arts Alliance.
However, things would take a turn for the worse. During the battle between Chun-Woo and the Alliance leader. His teacher having enter the Black Origin Threshold state due to witnessing Lee Shi-Ho apparent death after being shot. Causing him to rampage and attacking everyone within the area.
Shi-Woon seeing the state that his master was in. Would step in in the hopes of saving his master. With the aid of Kang-Sung and Hyuk So-Chun. Shi-Woon was able to breakthrough his master's rage. Calming the man down.
With this, it appeared that everything would be resolved peacefully. Sadly, that wasn't the case as the unnamed Martial Arts Alliance leader would attack Han Chun-Woo, knocking him back while capturing Shi-Woon. Intent on using the young boy as a way to threaten Han Chun-Woo into giving up the secret to accessing the Black Origin Threshold state.
Realizing the power of what the Alliance leader was asking. Shi-Woon plead for Chun-Woo to leave him to his fate and escape. However, unwilling to let his disciple die due to him. Chun-Woo hit Shi-Woon with the Soul Crushing Strike. Using his ki energy to incapacitate the Alliance leader before escaping.
That would be the last time that Shi-Woon would see his master before waking up in a hospital, where he would be confronted yet again by Kang-Sung. The man would tell him of what had happened prior to his awakening. Informing the boy that not only has his teacher escaped capture but that his teacher had crippled Shi-Woon by supposedly destroying his Ki-Center. Making it impossible for him to learn martial arts ever again.
Some time would pass as Shi-Woon's injuries healed enough for him to return to his normal daily school life. However, he would soon find himself dragged back into the Murim world when he was suddenly named the head of the Sun-Woo clan. Having been given the phoenix medallion, which named the person holding it as the new leader of the clan by Jang So-Sul prior to her leaving. Things would only get more complicated as rumors of a new group had formed, following the so called teachings of the Goomoonryong, named Soldiers Under Command, or S.U.C. Their main goal being the death of Shi-Woon who the first and only officially recognize Disciple of the Goomoonryong.
Despite his teacher's actions in trying to remove him from the Murim world. Realizing the dangers posed by this new group as well as how deeply he was connected to the Murim world due to his discipleship. Shi-Woon would step up to the plate. Returning to Murim world that he had hoped to stay away from. Ready to confront and defeat this new threat despite his current handicaps.
Shi-Woon, due to the supposed destruction of his Ki-Center, knew that he wouldn't be much of a match against this new group. Due to this, he would need access to the resources of the Sun-Woo clan and his various allies in order to recover his lost abilities. A feat easier said than done.
Due to the corruption of the various allies of the Sun-Woo clan such as the hostage situation with the Martial Arts Alliance. The Sun-Woo Clan was having something of a power struggle within their ranks for one reason or another as many of their members didn't accept Shi-Woon as the current head, even if the position was temporary at best. He would eventually earned the Sun-Woo Clan's trust after saving Kwon Jinie, the granddaughter of one of the clan elders.
During this time. Shi-Woon would come under the care of the Artists' Society in the hopes of reviving his Ki-Center. Allowing him to access the power he had back in his glory days so that he could more evenly fight against the S.U.C. group. Especially after learning that his mother had been put into a coma due to them.
Upon gaining the aid of both the Sun-Woo Clan and the Artists' Society. Shi-Woon would begin practicing the martial arts videos left to him by his teacher prior to his leave. Hoping that learning the rest of the art would give him an advantage for future battles.
Shi-Woon would encounter various members of S.U.C. several times. Facing off against superpowered foes of varying levels. It is during his battle with Bae Seung-Jae, that we see hints that Shi-Woon's Ki-Center wasn't actually destroyed when he enters the Black Origin Threshold for the first time. Using this power in order to save not only himself but also Kang Sera who was seriously injured when trying to save him after he got captured at the time.
After these events. Shi-Woon would wage a small scale war against the S.U.C. Using the Nine Dragon High School as the battlefield. It would be a brutal battle in which Shi-Woon hoped to end the threat posed by this evil group. However, he was unaware of there being a trap which caused a massive explosion to happen, which lead to the death of one of Shi-Woon's close friends and teacher, Jeon Jang-Il. This event leading Shi-Woon to once again enter the Black Origin Threshold and defeating a sizeable amount of the S.U.C. forces in the area before being critically injured as a result as the remaining S.U.C. forces retreated as a result.
Shi-Woon, still recovering from his injuries, would later be captured at a hospital and later taken to a deserted island due to being too injured to defend himself. Here Shi-Woon would encountered the famous murim fighter known as, Ju Sang-Sik, the Ghost Doctor. Whom Shi-Woon would learn of the fact that all this time, his body had been undergoing a process known as the Overhaul Rebirth. An extremely rare process in which the body reforms itself to be far more powerful than normal.
After taking down several squads of special forces soldiers and winning a bet with the Ghost Doctor to allow him to leave when the Sun-Woo clan arrived to save him. Ju Sang-Sik would heal the boy's damage body as well as helping him to complete the Overhaul Rebirth process. Giving Shi-Woon his abilities back again and making him even stronger than before.
Upon his return. Shi-Woon would spend some time getting adjusted to his newly reformed body. Even sparring one on one with Hyuk So-Chun in a pretty even fight.
Shi-Woon would later approach the Martial Arts Alliance. Willing to offer them the aid of the Sun-Woo Clan in order to bring down S.U.C. once and for all. However, due to the diminished strength of the Alliance and the loss of faith due to the Koa tower incident. Many of the clans weren't willing to help take down this group despite the dangers they posed to not only the Murim world but the civilian world as well.
Due to this Shi-Woon would elect for the clan to move on their own, seeing that aid from many of the clans was impossible. A decision which the Sun-Woo elders wholeheartedly agreed with.
While this action would prompt many of the individual forces and clans with ties to the True Disciple of Goomoonryong in the end. The others remained rooted in their position.
Shi-Woon would lead many of these forces in a final fight against the S.U.C. Ultimately defeating and overwhelming S.U.C. due to not only their larger force but also due to the lack of combat experience that their targets held.
Sadly, the price of the results couldn't consider the outcome as a happy one. Shi-Woon would see the full extent of just how far his teacher, Han Chun-Woo had fallen. The man that Shi-Woon looked up to as a role model. A heartless killer willing to destroy everything that didn't please him. Combined with the fact that much of Shi-Woon's current problems had been the result of his teacher's actions as well as the fact that Chun-Woo killed Kwon Jae-Kyu in front of him. Shi-Woon would engage his teacher in a one on one fight.
Despite it being believed that Shi-Woon was the only capable of fighting and defeating his ex-teacher. Han Chun-Woo ultimately curb stomped the young boy into the ground. Even hitting him with enough force to knock Shi-Woon out of the Black Origin Threshold state with ease.
Perhaps it was due to their bond. Maybe there really had been a shred of kindness within Han Chun-Woo that day. Shi-Woon probably should've died that day, given his teacher's new ruthless attitude towards life. But for whatever reason. Chun-Woo spared Shi-Woon that day. Exchanging his student's life to allow himself to escape as the Sun-Woo head is taken to the Hospital to heal.
It is unknown what Shi-Woon will do now that his view on his teacher has shifted like it did.
We will just have to wait to see what the young boy decides for himself. But if he does choses to fight. He must get stronger, for there are dark forces at work and they have Shi-Woon in their sights.
Appearance: Appearing as a lean and frail 16 year old teenager. Shi-Woon Yi's appearance is stated to be somewhat unremarkable when compared to others within the Murim world.
While his official height and weight is unknown. Due to his built shown in the manhwa, it can be assumed that Shi-Woon height and weight is very similar to the average Korean weight and height. Meaning that Shi-Woon likely stands at a height between 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 9 inches. And his average weight likely clocking in between 140 to 150 pounds.
Shi-Woon is shown to have dark brown eyes and brownish hair; however, later full color images seems to switch in between him having brown hair to it having a reddish tint to his hair at times for unknown reasons.
His general outfit tends to consist of either his school uniform during days he attends school, which consist of a short sleeve white shirt and dark blue to potentially black color pants.
When not attending school. Shi-Woon's clothing style tends to switch to a style referred to as the "Sweater Suit" style. Consisting of loose fitting dress pants, a loose fitting dress shirt and a long sleeve sweater.
Physiology
-Enhanced Human Physiology (Overhaul Rebirth): Originally a normal person with a crippled body due to being a person with a three-yin body type. Shi-Woon's body was weak. Lacking stamina and strength of even a normal human. However, upon taking the One Moon Divine Dan pill. His body condition was cured, allowing his Ki to flow properly through his body while being boosted by the effects of the medicine pill that he ate. This in turn resulting in his body breaking down and restructuring itself to what could potentially be considered the perfect human body. Increasing his strength, speed, durability, healing, and stamina to superhuman levels even before enhancing his stats with Ki.
-Superhuman Strength: While originally weaker than even a normal human. After taking the One Moon Divine Dan pill. Shi-Woon's body went through a dramatic change. Becoming stronger through the use of various martial arts techniques as well as his body went through the Overhaul Rebirth process. This in turn, granted him superhuman strength. Being able to punch through steel doors, and two feet thick concrete pillars with ease. He has even been able to hurt other Murim martial artist who were known for their durability, even without the use of Ki.
-Superhuman Speed: After breaking down and figuring out the walking technique of Han Chun-Woo. Shi-Woon Yi was shown being capable of using the technique with a high level of skill that he was able to avoid and escape various groups of Murim martial arts masters sent by the martial arts alliance with ease for several hours, despite it being his first true use of the skill. Similarly, due to his constant training and his body's newly enhanced status. He was shown being able to use this technique without the aid of Ki in order to escape and even overwhelm other Ki user martial artist. He was even able to fight and beat Hyuk So-Chun, who earlier in the series was able to keep up and outpace a taxi that Shi-Woon was trying to escape in.
-Superhuman Agility: Much like his other stats after going through the Overhaul Rebirth process. Shi-Woon's agility is at a superhuman level. Being able to do various flips with ease, land from large heights without being injured, and even using various martial arts movement techniques without Ki.
-Superhuman Durability: Due to both his willpower and his body going through the Overhaul Rebirth process. Shi-Woon's durability is at a level that surpasses even several Murim martial arts masters. He has taken dangerous life threatening beatings and was still able to stand and fight. He has been thrown through concrete. Taken hits strong enough to break bones as well as blows strong enough to crush and overpower the momentum of oncoming cars. His body's durability is even at the point where he could use ki-based techniques without being crippled as well as using the Black Origin Threshold for extended periods of time despite heavy injuries and blood lost.
-Superhuman Stamina: Shi-Woon is shown having superhuman levels of stamina. Being able to operate at peak condition for over 5 hours straight despite sustaining various wounds and using high level, and high energy consuming techniques such as the soul crushing strike.
-Superhuman Healing Factor: Due to taking the One Moon Divine Dan pill and his body going through the Overhaul Rebirth process. Shi-Woon's body became the equivalent to a walking medicine factory. This resulted in his body developing a healing factor which would heal various heavy wounds such as cuts, broken bones, and even internal injuries within a matter of days. Similarly, when using Ki to enhance his abilities. Shi-Woon's healing factor goes from taking several days to heal heavy injuries to minutes or even seconds to heal from them. He has healed from a broken ankle in seconds while being chased. Been stabbed and punched through concrete with enough force to break his ribs and arms, only for them to heal up moments later. It is due to this healing factor that Shi-Woon is capable of using Ki-based martial arts techniques without Ki as any damage sustained from using these techniques can be healed up right away. Similarly, it may be due to his healing factor, that Shi-Woon is able to use the Black Origin Threshold for as long as he could without dying, nor losing himself to his bloodlust, as his healing factor helps to negate and limits the side-effects brought about from using the technique itself.
-Medicine Body: Due to the effects of the One Moon Divine Dan pill and his body going through Overhaul Rebirth process. Shi-Woon's body has essentially became a walking medicine factory with every part of his body contain vast healing properties that even modern medicine can't even imagine achieving at the present time. Off of what is shown. Shi-Woon's blood can be refined to make various medicines and enhancement pills such as being able to heal people in a near death like state or creating pills that great enhances a person's Ki reserves. Allowing even a normal non-powered person to use Ki-based martial arts techniques. Even granting these individuals a weakened version of Shi-Woon's healing factor for a short time.
-Limited Immortality: Due to Shi-Woon's immense willpower in combination with his healing factor and the Black Origins Threshold. Shi-Woon has obtained a limited form of immortality. Being able to survive fatal injuries and attacks that were known for their ability to inflict certain death on a target. However, this is due to the how the Black Origins Threshold form interacts with his body and willpower. As such, while he could survive death to a degree. This power will give out should he take too many killing blows during a fight. Similarly, Should he leaves the Black Origin Threshold after sustaining such injuries. If they aren't treated immediately or if they are more than his body could handle. He will die within moments.
-Superhuman Senses: Upon going through the Overhaul Rebirth. Shi-Woon's senses were enhanced to superhuman levels. Allowing him to hear distant sounds such as people whispering from several tens of feet away. His sense of touch allowing him to feel slight changes in the wind. Alerting him to potential pursuiters. Shi-Woon has even developed a sixth sense. Allowing him to sense the killer's intent and ki energy of those around him to such a degree that he can even pick out Master level Murim fighters and determine how powerful they are despite them hiding themselves to the best of their ability.
-Superhuman Reflexes: Shi-Woon is shown having superhuman levels of reflexes. Despite only training for the better part of a year. Shi-Woon has shown the ability to keep up with Real Master level fighters. Being able to block and counter these fighters despite their superhuman speeds. He has even been shown being able to react and counter attacks coming from multiple individuals.
-Superhuman Mental Processing: Even before going through the Overhaul Rebirth process. Shi-Woon's mental abilities could be considered on the high end of normal human potential or peak human. He has displayed traits associated with one having a photographic memory. Being able to remember something such as various martial arts techniques only once and later being able to break down and replicate them with ease despite only seeing these things once. Later on, after training under the guidance of Yae-Won. Shi-Woon learned various mental techniques that further increased his mental processing abilities to superhuman levels. Allowing him the ability to see and determine the fighting style of anyone he fights in an instant. This ability even allows him to tailor his own fighting style to better combat these foes. Similarly due to the training he gained under Yae-Won. Shi-Woon is able to recall various martial arts styles and mentally train his body to copy these moves such as when he copied the Heavenly Way's blocking technique. The ability to mentally trained the body to perform movements without prior conditioning is extremely rare within fiction.
Powers
-Ki Manipulation: Upon taking the One Moon Divine Dan pill. Shi-Woon's Ki system was healed. Allowing him to use the massive stores of ki within his body. Due to his massive Ki reserves. Han Chun-Woo, who had been his teacher at the time, taught Shi-Woon the Black Heaven and Earth style in order to better control his ki and to help negate the damage his body received whenever Shi-Woon used ki-based attacks. Shi-Woon's Ki reserves were so massive that Han Chun-Woo has stated that the Black Heaven and Earth style was the only martial arts style capable of regulating Shi-Woon's ki.
Through the use of Ki. Shi-Woon is capable of enhancing his body's stats. Allowing him to increase his strength, speed, and durability beyond their already superhuman levels. This increase even giving him the ability to close the gaps between him and other potentially stronger foes. Allowing him to catch his foes off guard despite their difference in combat experience.
-Ki Based Stat Enhancing Factor: Shi-Woon is able to increase all of his stats by circulating his ki through his body. Allowing him to move faster, and strike harder. He has even been shown using his ki to further enhance his healing factor to withstand and heal from more dangerous wounds in seconds.
-Black Origin Threshold: A forbidden technique of the Black Heaven and Earth school of martial arts which reverses the user blood and ki flow to massively increase the user's stats, while being fueled by high energy emotions such as anger. Similarly, upon entering this state, the user's ki becomes strange, instilling a sense of danger in those around the user as the user subconsciously begins releasing massive amounts of killer's intent. Due to the sudden reversing of the user's ki flow as well as the power boost granted by it. The user's body would heat up to potentially dangerous levels, forming either vapor or smoke from various openings on the body which would continue to increase the longer the user remains in this state. Eventually forming ki flames on the user's body.
While powerful. The technique does come with its own drawbacks. If the user's willpower isn't strong enough while this state. They will find their mind being deteriorated by anger, bloodlust and other animalistic instincts over time till the point that they are no more than a while berserker, who can't tell friend from foe and will attack anything within range. Similarly, the user's pain receptors will be shut off. Allowing for the user to ignore the pain and damage that their body sustained, creating a situation where the user could fight at their full potential while potentially suffer severe to even fatal injuries without knowing. Similarly, due to the sudden influx of power. Should the user's body not be conditioned enough to contain the power being used. The user's body will begin to gradually break down more and more, the longer the user is in this state.
Shi-Woon learned how to access this state via the videos left behind by his teacher Han Chun-Woo. Shi-Woon appears able to access this state at will without suffering all that much from the backlash of the technique itself. Likely due to his extreme level of willpower and his body's superhuman healing factor. He can maintain this state for extended periods of time and maintain his rational thought to a much greater degree than those who learned the technique before him such as his teacher Han Chun-Woo. However, he will still lose himself to it should he enter this state with an emotional mindset.
-Ki Flames Emission: After going through the Overhaul Rebirth and entering the Black Origin Threshold state. Shi-Woon's body will begin to emit flames made of ki. It is currently unknown of just what offensive and defensive benefits this ability allows. Due to the immense heat and the fact that it appears to have the same quality as fire. Those fighting Shi-Woon would likely be more careful when facing him for the simple fact that they are unsure of the properties of the flames emitting from Shi-Woon's body.
-Cry of the Phoenix: A sonic attack created by the user yelling. The attack itself is shown to generate a great amount of force. Capable of creating fissures on the ground and releasing shockwaves that nearly brought down a helicopter from several tens of feet away. It is loud enough to make anyone within range, deaf without suitable protection.
-Dominator's Aura: A unique ability in which the user release a large amount of murderous intent as well as fighting spirit. Creating an overbearing presence which affects the mind of those the user faces as well as those around him. While stronger opponents can fight through this. Those with weak willpower will find themselves willing to surrender on the spot while other fighters will unknowingly find their combat abilities lowered due to this. Making a potentially dangerous fight more manageable. Similarly due to this ability being an AOE or area of effect ability. Large groups become much more manageable as many of these foes will be unable to attack for the first few seconds if at all.
Skills
-Master Martial Artist: Despite Shi-Woon's limited martial arts training throughout the series. Shi-Woon is stated to be a prodigy among prodigies within the Murim world. Learning and breaking down various martial arts techniques that was demonstrated only once in front of him before using them with near expert or master level skill in battle. In one case, when learning the walking technique shown to him by his teacher Han Chun-Woo. He was able to break down how it worked before using that knowledge to escape nearly all capture attempts made on him by the Martial Arts Alliance. Similarly, due to his dedication in learning martial arts. When his Ki-center was damage. He was able to not only combat but defeat a number of superpowered martial artists despite having no Ki to enhance his strikes such as Yoo Ji-Gun and Chung-Ho. Even when learning how to fight. Shi-Woon was capable of defeating and even rivaling other so-called prodigies such as Hyuk So-Chun and was even stated to be one of the only people with the martial arts skills capable of defeating Han Chun-Woo who was stated to be unbeatable. Shi-Woon Yi's martial arts skills is stated to be at the level of a Real Master, The highest level of martial arts mastery within the Murim world within the Breaker Manhwa.
-(Black Heaven and Earth School Martial Arts): Taught to him by his teacher Han Chun-Woo. The Black Heaven and Earth style is a powerful style composed of techniques from other schools, combined with the Black Heaven and Earth school's own ki circulation technique. Creating far more powerful techniques compared to what was found in other styles. Due to the power of these techniques and in order to sustain the style in elongated combat situations. Practitioners needed to have a large amount of Ki and a high degree of mastery of the style's circulation techniques. Due to the power of not only these techniques, but the practitioners themselves. The style was at one point considered the strongest, if not, one of the strongest known styles within the murim world.
-[Black Heaven and Earth Technique]: The main ki circulation technique of the Black Heaven and Earth school of which this technique was named from. It is stated to be one of the strongest ki circulation techniques within murim. In fact, it was stated to be the only technique strong enough to help Shi-Woon control the rampaging ki within his body. Through the use of this technique. The user is capable of enhancing his body's stats as well as quickly recovering the user's stamina and increasing one's healing factor. Allowing the user to fight stronger foes than normal and large groups single handedly. Similarly, the user can use this technique to control the ki flow of not only the user but those in contact with the user.
However, what makes this technique so powerful is the ability to allow the user to enter the Black Origin Threshold state at will, even if the user doesn't have access to ki.
-[Soul-Crushing Strike]: The first combat technique that Shi-Woon learns from Han Chun-Woo. Essentially a straight punch enhanced with ki. However, what makes the technique so dangerous is how ki is used to enhance the strikes. Where other striking techniques would use ki to enhance the strength of the strike. The soul-crushing strike instead uses ki as a sort of power driver or battering ram. The user when attacking must move their ki in a way mimicking the direction of the strike. Which upon landing, the user can then force the already in motion ki outwards into the target. Making the damage type of this attack closer to a piercing attack like a spear, rather than an impact base attack like that found when using a hammer.
-[Focus Stomp]: A powerful stomp capable of cratering the ground and smashing through steel and flesh with ease. Much like with the soul-crushing strike. The user can use this technique with various types of kicks. Upon landing the strike, the user then forces the ki within their legs, outwards. Allowing the attack to punch through most defenses depending on the amount of ki that the user is channeling. This technique appears to be stronger than the soul-crushing punch as it was able to break Cool Guy's arm while warping the gauntlet he was wearing, which was shown to withstand taking several soul-crushing punches with little damage as a result.
-[Black Heaven and Earth Walking Technique]: The main speed enhancing technique used by the Black Heaven and Earth school and perhaps one of the fastest movement techniques within murim. By focusing ki within the user's legs and especially around the ankles. The user is capable of moving at superhuman speeds. At the height of mastery. The technique even allows the user to create several afterimages. After witnessing this technique only once. Shi-Woon was capable of using it on such a level that he was able to avoid various members of the martial arts alliance. Even being able to outrun and outpaced those considered masters, a number of times when being hunted down. Despite being listed as one technique. It is actually five different movement skills. Each one designed to counter various attacks and environments while allowing the user to move at hypersonic speeds. These five techniques are as listed
-{Jin}: The advancing technique. Allowing the user to move forward in a straight line with insane speed. Due to the sudden movement and the rapid closing of distance between the user and his target. The user would appear to have teleported in front of the target to the untrained eye. Even lower rank members with the Murim world, tends to have trouble keeping up with this technique.
-{Tweh}: The retreating technique. The opposite of Jin. Instead of advancing towards a foe, instead the user instantly backs away. Creating distance between the user and his target. With proper timing. The user can even avoid attacks.
-{Hweh}: The evading technique. Used to evade attacks by moving side to side and around the opponent. Much like the other walking techniques. Due to the speed in which one is moving. It can create the illusion that the user is teleporting around the target, when in truth. The user is moving faster than the eye can see.
-{Gyuk}: The attacking technique. In order to use this technique when facing off against an opponent. The user must be capable of reading the footwork of their foe. Using the other movement techniques to get close in order to tap their feet against their opponent's in order to change their footwork and throwing them off balance.
-{Hwan}: The afterimage technique. By using the other footwork techniques in combination with one another. The user is capable of moving so fast that they create afterimages of themselves. Due to the speed of which the user is moving. The opponent's mind and willpower may be affected as they become uncertain of which image is real and which is not. The massive difference in speed by those unable to keep pace with the user of this technique will begin placing doubts within the opponent's mind of their gap in power between him and the user. This technique could be considered the height of mastery for the Black Heaven and Earth school's walking technique.
-[Chaotic Heavens Destruction Strike]: The most powerful combat technique within the Black Heaven and Earth school under the Black Origin Threshold. By gathering three different Ki flows into a single point. The user will then take three steps back, twisting their body so that their back faces their foe, before using the rotation of their upper body to deliver a powerful straight punch. This punch is powerful enough to create an air pressure bullet capable of tearing through even a body enhanced by the power of the Black Origin Threshold.
-[Phantom Kick]: A continuation to a prior kick. It's meant to act as a counter to an opponent catching the first kick, by having the user twist their body in order to slam their other foot into their foe.
-(Sun-Woo Style- Iron Wall Stance): The basic martial arts stance of the Sun-Woo clan. Taught to Shi-Woon by the Sun-Woo clan's elder, Jeon Jang-Il. The style works by having the user stand sideways towards their opponent. Limiting the amount of exposed target points. The user then holds out their lead hand to use as a shield to block, deflect, and counter any incoming attacks from the opponent while maintaining a set distance between the user and their foe. The second hand, or spear hand, acts as the stance's main attacking force. It is mainly used to either counter punch or sucker punch a foe when they get close enough. Due to the spear hand being hidden by the body and its placement. The opponent is unsure of where or when this punch will come from. Making it especially deadly with the correct timing.
-(Artists' Society's Outer Body Training Method): The mental training method of the Artists' Society. It was taught to Shi-Woon by Yae-Won. This training technique allows the user to recreate a mental image of a past foe. Allowing the user to train against these images within their mind. Strengthening the user's skill level and mental capabilities as well as allowing the user of this training method to learn and copy techniques used by past foes.
-(Heavenly Way Style - Defensive Technique): The blocking technique of the Heavenly Way Style, which Shi-Woon copied after using the Artists' Society's mental training.
-Indomitable Will: Shi-Woon Yi's is shown to have immense willpower. Stated to be at Goomoonryong level. Shi-Woon's willpower has granted the young martial artist a number of perks. Allowing him to withstand the ki pressure being released by other masters. Similarly, due to his immense willpower. Shi-Woon is unwilling to quit in a fight to the death. Allowing him to stand up in order to continue fighting despite potentially having his body broken throughout the fight. This willpower is so strong that Shi-Woon is capable of using the Black Origin Threshold without losing himself to it. Even merging his willpower with the form to create a limited form of immortality.
-Parkour Master: Due to his training in the use of various movement techniques. Shi-Woon is a master of parkour. He has demonstrated the ability to cross various distances with a single leap. Move through various obstacles and flip over various objects without slowing down. He has even been able to outrun and escape from various Murim groups with ease due to this.
-Stealth Expert: Throughout the series, Shi-Woon is shown to be quite knowledgeable of stealth tactics. Being able to use his knowledge of his surroundings to his advantage. He has been able to run and avoid being captured by various groups who went after him. Such as when he avoided being captured by the Martial Arts Alliance for over 5 hours straight. In another instance. He was shown being able to avoid and sneak up on various special forces units. Taking them down quickly enough without them noticing that he was there.
-Charisma: Despite being young and inexperienced. Shi-Woon is shown to have a great amount of charisma. He has awed many people with his willpower. Swayed enemies into becoming allies with him with his force of will and convictions. Even being able to convince a number of Veterans to side with him due to this. His charisma has even got Jang So-Sul to make him the temporary leader of the Sun-Woo clan. He would even be elected as the new leader of the Martial Arts Alliance due to both his Charisma and tactical mind.
Gear
-Ma-Hwan Dan Pill: A spirit medicine pill which grants Shi-Woon a limited amount of Ki as well as some healing properties in order to allow Shi-Woon to use Ki-Based martial arts. However, prolonged usage of the pill would eventually have negative and potentially long lasting side-effects on the body.
-Jin-Gi Dan Pill: A spirit medicine pill much like the Ma-Hwan Dan pill. It's effects are similar to the Ma-Hwan Dan pill. However, it was created to be of better quality and many if not all of the side effects present within the Ma-Hwan Dan pill were removed when making this pill. Allowing for Shi-Woon to use it without fear of damaging his body further than it have been.
-Sun Woo Phoenix Medallion: A medallion given to Shi-Woon by Jang So-Sul. Having this medallion in his possession officially makes Shi-Woon the head of the Sun-Woo Clan. One of the strongest martial arts clans within the Murim world. Due to this. Shi-Woon has access to all of the clan's resources and personnel at his beck and call. Allowing him to mobilize small armies of fighters in order to tackle a problem.
Weaknesses
-All Human Weaknesses: Despite Shi-Woon's superhuman traits. He is by no means immune to conventional damage. As such he can still be killed by normal human means. Lack of oxygen, gunshot wounds, extreme injuries. Etc. While his healing factor, durability, and the black origin threshold would help limited his chances of dying to minor wounds. If he suffers from a large number of wounds or enough damage. It is still possible for him to be killed. As such Shi-Woon has all the weaknesses of a normal human but to a lesser degree.
-Can't Swim: Shi-Woon doesn't know how to swim. It is unknown if he ever overcome this weakness later in the series.
-Mental Deterioration(Black Origin Threshold): Due to the side effects of the Black Origin Threshold form. Upon entering the state. Shi-Woon's mental state will begin to deteriorate due to prolonged usage of this form. However, it appears that due to his willpower and his body's healing factor. He can maintain his rational thought better than others who have used this form. However, certain traits still remain such as his body deadening his nerves to ignore pain and other potential lethal wounds in order to keep fighting. Making this form dangerous to begin with. Not mentioned, should Shi-Woon enter this form without a clear mind. He will begin to lose himself till he is no more than a raging animal that will attack anything and everything around him. Including friends and other potential allies.
-Naivete: Shi-Woon throughout the series is shown to be very naive about many of the issues happening around him. Being unwilling to involve himself in issues concerning him as well as offering mercy to those who have attacked him. Something that has at times came back to bite him in the butt. Due to his naivete, he has left himself open to attacks, and has gotten others killed due to either a lack of planning or by simply being too inactive. This weakness however is mostly due to not only his young age, but also the fact that unlike others who were raised in the Murim world. Shi-Woon was a normal civilian. Only entering the murim world recently and even then, his teacher, Han Chun-Woo shielded him from most of the evil involved in it. Due to this. Shi-Woon isn't aware of how murim operates both in actions and in culture. Making it easy to trick or overwhelm him with mind games that attacks his sense of right and wrong. Eventually, Shi-Woon will overcome this weakness with time. And with the death of both Sun-Woo Elders, Kwon Jae-Kyu and Jeon Jang-Il. Shi-Woon's personal view on the world has shifted to a more darker tone. Whether or not this will be a good thing in the future Breaker series is unknown.
-Ki Reliance: While considered a martial arts master. Much of Shi-Woon's fighting abilities relies on the usage of Ki in order to gain the desired effect. As such, should he be unable to use his Ki when using his martial arts. Shi-Woon runs the risk of greatly injuring himself such as when he broke his ankle when using a moment technique to escape S.U.C. personnels chasing after him or while he nearly did the same thing when using another technique in order to evade an attack when fighting Chang-Ho who was a member of S.U.C. at the time.
-Ki Center Destruction: It has been stated that there are certain pressure points within the body capable of affecting one's ability to produce and control the Ki that forms within their Ki-Center, as well as, certain martial arts techniques that are capable of destroying one's Ki-Center. Should Shi-Woon's ki center be destroyed. Shi-Woon will be unable to use his Ki-based martial arts as he will be rendered down to a normal human. However, it should be noted that due to his body's healing factor. His body would eventually heal his Ki-Center. Similarly Shi-Woon could subvert this weakness through the usage of certain spirit medicine pills as well as entering the black origin threshold form. However, his combat power level would be lower than had his ki-center not been damaged. Similarly, these methods are only temporary for one reason or another. The spirit medicine only giving Shi-Woon a limited amount of Ki that once used, can't be replaced. And the usage of the Black Origin Threshold will damage his body as well as begin deteriorating his mind after remaining in that state for some time or if he allows his emotions to get the better of him.
-Medicine Body: Due his body going through the Overhaul Rebirth process after taking the One Moon Divine Dan pill. Shi-Woon's body is in a sense, a walking medicine factory capable of healing nearly any sort of wound or condition. Due to this. Shi-Woon's body is considered to be very valuable. Making him a potential target for various groups who requires his body's healing properties for one reason or another. Therefore there would be certain individuals who are willing to wait and attack Shi-Woon when weaken in order to gain his body for these purposes.
Feats
-In the Breaker Chapter 6. We are shown a sample of Shi-Woon's courage and willpower when after being told by Han Chun-Woo that he would need to prove his willingness to training under him by having Shi-Woon jump into a river from a bridge several tens of feet high. Despite using this request as an example of the hardships that Shi-Woon would face should he be taken under Han Chun-Woo's wing. Shi-Woon, despite not knowing how to swim, would make the jump. Showing his willingness to face death in order to become stronger.
-In The Breaker Chapter 23 to 24 we are given a good example of Shi-Woon's durability prior to his body finished the Overhaul Rebirth. In these chapters, in order to escape with Jang So-Sul. Shi-Woon was forced to carry her. In doing so, he enhanced his legs in order to escape the Torrent clan chasing them on motorcycles. Doing so caused many of the blood vessels within his legs to burst. He would soon get nearly bi-sected when someone hit him with a large sword, causing him to fall. However, he managed to flip himself over in order to protect Jang So-Sul from any injuries despite the speed he was moving at. He would then be chained up and dragged across the road for several hundreds of feet. Causing major damage and blood lost by the time he was rescued by his teacher. His body's healing factor would end up healing these major injuries within a few hours.
-In The Breaker Chapter 32 to 34, we are given another good example of Shi-Woon's durability. In these chapters Shi-Woon would fight Hyuk So-Chun. During this fight. Shi-Woon would be punch through everything around him, from brick walls to what appeared to be a steel beam. He would sustain massive injuries leaving him a bloody mess. Many of these attacks that he sustained were stated to be strong enough to kill him several times over. However, when it was all said and done. Due to the terms of the fight. Shi-Woon was able to beat Hyuk So-Chun by landing a single punch.
-In The Breaker Chapter 42 to Chapter 43. Perhaps one of Shi-Woon's greatest feats of stamina and speed. He was able to constantly avoid capture for over five hours. Even breaking through a blockade in that time before being captured by Kang-Sung before escaping again with the aid of the Torrent Clan.
-In The Breaker: New Waves Chapter 99 to Chapter 108. Shi-Woon displays an impressive durability feat. He was able to survive being in the epicenter of a massive explosion due to Jeon Jang-Il taking the blunt of the damage. Afterwards, after seeing the state of Jang-Il. Shi-Woon would immediately enter the Black Origin Threshold state. Allowing him to fight and effortlessly defeat Kang Ha-Il and Kwon-Young, one of the Murim's Four Supernovas, with a few hits while at the same time being able to fight with Ryuji, his senior within the Black Heaven and Earth school. During this fight. He would take massive injuries from cuts, large impacts, being smashed through a car, then some walls. And later taking a Chaotic Heavens Destruction Strike which tore through his left side and damaged his left arm to the point that it was useless at that point in time. Similarly he was stated to be getting stronger the longer the match went on, despite the massive amount of blood loss he was taking. Ultimately the fight would end with no victor as Jeon Jang-Il would stop Shi-Woon and use the last remaining Ki within himself to heal Shi-Woon and stabilize his body so that he wouldn't outright die after exiting the Black Origin Threshold state.
-In The Breaker: New Waves Chapter 110 to 128, we are given perhaps Shi-Woon's second greatest, if not his greatest feat to date. Sometime after the battle at the Nine Dragons High School. Shi-Woon would be capture yet again. Upon learning that he was captured. Shi-Woon despite still being injured, was able to escape. He would take down several squads of special forces operatives with ease. Moving faster than the eye can see, and dodge bullets from snipers. He has even faced off against the Ghost Doctor, Ju Sang-Sik during this time. Being able to not only survive fighting the man, but also break and remove the sealing needles placed in him without losing consciousness for several hours straight. Despite again taking massive amounts of injuries. Both inflicted on him by his enemies and by himself in order to keep fighting. He had even managed to land a few hits on the elder master during this battle. Shi-Woon would ultimately win this fight due to his unwillingness to give up which prompted the Ghost Doctor to admit defeat due to not wanting to lose someone going through the Overhaul Rebirth process as well as the fact that he was moved by the boy's fighting spirit. It should be noted that Ju Sang-Sik was a fighter that even the Goomoonryong didn't tread lightly around due to knowing that a battle between them could end in either one's death.
- In The Breaker: New Waves Chapter 188 to Chapter 195. In these chapters we witness Shi-Woon fighting his first teacher, Han Chun-Woo, the Goomoonryong. After witnessing the death of his close friend and elder of the Sun-Woo Clan, Kwon Jae-Kyu. Shi-Woon would enter the Black Origin Threshold state and engage his teacher in battle. Despite the gap in skill level. Shi-Woon was able to land a few good hits on the Goomoonryong. Even pushing him back at one point. However, while both of them were holding back to a degree. Shi-Woon would ultimately and easily be defeated by his former teacher.
Entry End
So that was Yi Shi-Woon, The True Disciple of Goomoonryong. Honestly one of my favorite entries to do. Everything was laid out. I could find all the information needed for it unlike certain other characters I've done in the past. I have to say however, that this was perhaps the third or fourth longest entry that I did. The only complaint that I have with it is the fact that I may have to go back and add on to this once The Breaker part 3 ever comes out. Supposely they are coming out with it, but no word on when it will be out. So what's seen here isn't Shi-Woon's full potential.
Anyways. That's about it for the most part. In the next two weeks. There will be around two or three updates coming out. The first one being the next profile that I'll be doing, which is on Mewtwo. Followed by either my first video on youtube which will kick off a series which currently I'm calling it "Worth the pages". The series in question being a book review series. Going over various different books and giving my opinion on if they are worth buying or if you should skip them. The first video will be on the book Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett.
The other potential update will be me setting up USD Vol 2 which will be Link vs Gilgamesh. The original idea for USD Vol 1 but I had to change it to cap vs mr. x due to the difficulty of making the fight scenes.
After that however, I'll be releasing the fight prologue to vol1 followed by two or three more profile updates. One of which will be DC comics New 52 Prime-Earth Green Lantern. and then hopefully by the end of the month I should have the first fight chapters of USD vol 1, and both character profiles up for Vol2. Hell I may even have the second episode to Worth the Pages up by then as well.
Anyways. With that all said and done.
