Chapter 13: Sarek's Observation
"I love it when the kids get along," Amanda remarked, making Jim and Christine smile. Sarek gave her a confused sort of look, but said nothing.
"Well, knowing Commander Spock," Christine said, trying to make conversation, "I doubt that would happen. He doesn't pick a fight without good reason."
I do not think she has heard about Spocks' fights as a child, Sarek remarked to his wife via their bond. Amanda tried not to jump at his sudden comment. Usually, they had a rule of not talking to each other like that with company present. But, since this was a more unusual visit, she decided that it would be okay.
You have to admit, though, he did have his reasons. Amanda responded. She felt Sarek consider her comment.
That is true, wife, Sarek's voice rang out in her head, However I do not think all of his fights were started because of a 'good reason'.
Fair enough. You win. Amanda relented to Sarek's logical approach to the subject.
It can be hard to win without logic, my love. Sarek's response prompted Amanda to send him memories of one time they'd had an argument over the Vulcan Mating Ritual of Pon Farr. Amanda had, inevitably, won that argument.
At this memory, Sarek blushed green in his cheeks and he slowly pulled away from Amanda's fingers. She smiled secretly to herself as Christine and Jim gave one another a quick confused glance. But they dismissed the behaviour when Spock and T'Nyra started back from the washroom with fresh bed supplies and a now empty laundry basket.
"Almost done?" Jim asked, turning to examine his first officer and his younger sister. Spock seemed to be doing well here, much better than when he was aboard the Enterprise. Perhaps this had been a good idea after all.
"I am approximately 87.53% done, Captain." Spock replied, stopping atop the stairs to glance back at Jim. T'Nyra glanced over where her parents and their guests were sitting, and noticed Sarek's blush and Amanda's smile. Blinking, she looked at Jim and spoke, her voice slightly muffled.
"We have to make the bed, and reorganize a few items," she said, and Spock gave her a backward glance. Coming back up the stairs, he had taken the front of the procession, leaving his sister to trail behind him. "Once we are finished, we will need to replace the clothing that no longer fits. Would you wish to accompany us?"
"The Captain and Ms. Chapel must have other things planned," Spock interrupted his sister's attempt at allowing her parents to be alone - as well as for Christine and Spock to spend a little time together. He gave his sister a little glare, but she pretended not to notice.
"Actually," Jim said, smiling widely. "Neither of us have plans."
"That's right," Christine chimed in, albeit quietly. "We have nothing better to do, so if its not a bother, we'd love to go!" Spock's ears blushed green, and T'Nyra smiled to herself. This was perfect.
"After we are done," T'Nyra said, pushing her brother into his room. Spock stumbled a moment, but took his sister's hint and moved over the steps and into his room. T'Nyra followed close behind. "We will meet you down there and discuss the details."
When she disappeared into the room, Spock's door closed, almost like it was slammed. And, to Sarek's ears came the sound of a slight emotional outburst from Spock. A bit confused, he glanced at the two guests. One or both of them must be close to Spock to make him lose control of his emotions.
He studied James Kirk, and decided that he was not the reason for the emotional outburst. Surely, the two of them were close friends, but that was not something that should have an effect on Spock. But when he turned his eyes to Christine Chapel, he knew exactly what was happening.
It had been long enough that, and Spock was certainly old enough, that Pon Farr must have started, or was close to starting for his son. In addition, Christine Chapel was smitten with his son, and he was sure that Spock felt the same way for her.
With a glance at his wife, he spoke to her again with their bond.
I believe Spock and Ms. Chapel may be attracted to one another. Amanda glanced back at Sarek and blinked.
It's taken you that long to figure it out? I knew from the moment I saw them interact on the way here. Sarek raised an eyebrow and reached out to touch his fingers to Amanda's again.
I should have known you would pick up on their emotions. Considering that you are extremely emotional at times. Amanda held back a laugh, and rubbed Sarek's fingers in response. He felt his skin prickle at the action, and he started to reciprocate it, going from her fingers to her hands palm, and then to her wrist.
Sarek, Amanda said through their bond, herself now blushing, We have guests present…
Not for long, Sarek replied, his fingers moving back down to her palm and tracing circles on her skin. Amanda's eyes flicked over to him, and she looked into his deep, dark brown eyes. Looking into those eyes, she felt as if she was falling in love with him all over again. Only this time, it was a lot better, because she knew that he loved her back, and the were married to one another.
Thanks for reading! I can't wait to get Spock and Christine alone together, not to mention Sarek and Amanda. But they'll just have to wait a few more chapters. Till next chapter!
