A/N: I decided to break this chapter up into a few different parts because each part ended up being a little bit longer than usual. It's still the same idea though: three tributes' POVs during the train ride. It's just split up into three chapters.

I'm also going to edit the first chapter because I realized that it's a lot less detailed than all of the other chapters.

Train Rides - Part One

Silver Jewel, District One

"You two are adorable!" Acacia squeals, "I can't wait to see what you'll do in the arena!"

"Silver will win." Gold smiles at me, but it doesn't quite reach his eyes.

"That's so selfless! You would give up fame and money and your own life for her! Now that is true love!"

It feels like we've been listening to her discuss our relationship for hours. I glance at the clock. We have been listening to Acacia discuss our relationship - and eventual deaths and all that fun stuff - for ten minutes? I guess time moves extra slow when you're thinking about how either you or your fiance will die. Or how you managed to get stuck with the most annoying escort in Panem!

"I think I'm going to go to my room to find another pair of shoes. My feet are killing me!" I smile apologetically.

"I'll come with you!" Gold says quickly, "Can you help me with my tie?"

"Yeah, of course!" I say, "It's the first door on the left, right?" I ask Acacia, who nods.

"You need help untying your tie?" Acacia frowns at Gold.

"Uh, yeah! Last time I tried to untie a tie, I ended up pulling it the wrong way and almost choking myself so now Silver always helps me. We'll see you for lunch!" he stammers as we rush down the hallway.

"And we're free!" I grin as Gold closes my door.

"Think she bought my excuse?" he asks.

"Probably not! I think she just spontaneously figured out how to read a room!"

Gold laughs. "Too bad she couldn't have figured it out when she was talking about how we're going to die!"

"Right? What is wrong with her?"

She's not wrong though. One of us is going to die. That's how the Hunger Games work. It's inevitable. I know Gold isn't lying either. He would sacrifice himself so I could win, but I don't want to win if it means that he dies.

"Hey, are you okay?" Gold puts his arm around me.

"Yeah, just thinking about everything. Mostly about how I am going to kill my father if I win!"

"It's going to be okay," he says.

"Yeah, I guess. I'm not the only imperfect one in the family. I have a couple of secrets that would destroy his career!"

"Like what?" he asks.

"Well, for one thing, he is cheating on my mom. I have pictures and audio of him admitting it and then agreeing to pay me to keep quiet about it. There's no way for him to keep paying me in the arena, which means the deal's off! I can, and will, post it for everyone to see!"

"Are you really going to do it?"

"Of course!" I say, picking up my phone from my bed, "I'm going to do it right now!"

I scroll through my phone until I find the photos from a few months ago.

There he is, with his arm around another woman. From this picture, everyone would recognize Dad, but most people wouldn't recognize the woman since her back is facing the camera. The only things that people could recognize her by are her brown hair and her red jacket. This picture is probably not the best one to use though. It doesn't exactly make it super obvious that he is in a relationship with that woman.

The last picture is much better, I think! This one was the most awkward to take seeing as they are kissing passionately. I left after taking this picture since it gave me all the evidence I needed without traumatizing me. Well, not too much.

I guess I should just post this. I have nothing to lose and maybe a few weeks left to live. This is my one chance to stand up to Dad. To not just let this play out exactly how he wants. Not without a fight, that is.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah! I'm great! I'm just deciding which picture is the most incriminating!" I force a smile.

"Are you sure?" Gold somehow looks even more concerned.

"Yeah, this whole situation is just really hard. I really want to do this. I've been wanting to stand up to my Dad for my whole life. But, I also don't. And it's stupid, but I just don't know if I'm doing the right thing by exposing him."

Gold looks angry for a second but then smiles at me reassuringly.

"You just have to do what feels right," he says.

"I don't even know what feels right. What should I do, Gold?"

"It's your decision, Silver. I can't just make a decision like this for you."

"I know, but you want me to expose him, right? To make things even for screwing us over like this?"

His angry expression returns again for a second.

"Well, yeah. I guess I do want to see him face some sort of consequences, but it's your decision. He's your dad and if sharing the picture is going to make you feel guilty, then you shouldn't do it. If it'll make you feel better, then you should go for it."

"That's the thing, Gold! I don't know how it'll make me feel!" I snap.

He sighs, "Maybe you should just forget about it for now. We still have access to our phones until we go into the arena, right?"

"Yeah, I guess you're right. This whole situation just feels so messed up! I don't even know what to think about anything right now!"

He pulls me into a hug.

"It's okay. We'll figure this out somehow."

"It's not just about that. It's a big part of why I'm upset, but something else happened earlier. It was really weird."

"What happened?"

"My parents came to say goodbye, but my mom said that my dad couldn't say goodbye because peacekeepers aren't allowed in that room unless they're on duty. She actually asked the peacekeeper from the Capitol to escort him out."

"Did he?"

"Yeah! But that's not really the weird part. My mom never goes against what my dad says. Until today, I wasn't even sure she had any opinions of her own."

"Yeah, that is weird. What did she say after he left?"

"She seemed really upset. I think she was crying a little bit, which is also weird because we were never close. When I was a kid, our housekeeper and the Avoxes would pretty much do everything while she and my dad would have meetings with people from the Capitol."

"Did she know about your dad's plan before?"

"No, I don't think so. She seemed genuinely shocked that he would actually do it. We didn't really say much aside from that, but she gave me this box."

I pull away from Gold to grab my purse from beside the door. I pull out the silver box that she had given me.

"What is it?" Gold asks.

"I don't know," I say as I open the lid.

Inside the box is blue tissue paper. I toss the paper aside to reveal a silver necklace shaped like a flower. I hold it up to show Gold.

"I used to love this necklace when I was a kid. I would sneak into her room and try it on."

I can't believe she remembered.

"It looks like there's a note too." Gold picks up a piece of paper that must have fallen out when I took out the necklace.

My name is written on the outside in perfect cursive. I open it up. It says:

Silver,

I want you to know that I had no part in this and I will do whatever it takes to fix this. Your father and I have connections in the Capitol, I'm sure there is somebody I can talk to.

Love, Mom

"I think I know what to do."

I take out my phone and look at those photos once again. I select the worst ones and send them to Mom with a message:

Thank you for the necklace! There's something you should know about Dad.

If we're going to be on the same team, then I can't keep secrets like this. Plus, something like this just might help us to get exactly what we want.
