Laser stood out in the frigid morning air as he filled Carol's car at a local gas station near Lakewood Plaza. He shivered as he stood in only a white t-shirt and his jeans. He hadn't slept all night. He simply drove around until Carol's car was nearly out of gas. He used his debit card to pay for the gas which he was surprised still worked after 6-11 years of inactivity.
As he waited for the car to fill up, he felt his mouth dry and a familiar craving consume him. Anyone who truly knew him knew that he had an obsessive sweet tooth and it had been a while since he had any sweets. He made his way to the gas station store as the gas tank continued to fill up and, once he entered the store, he looked through the small candy isle.
His favorite sweet fix was the cherry suckers by the brand Popz. But, he looked through the colorful candy isle and noticed there wasn't any Popz suckers. He frowned and made a mental note of how even his favorite candy changed while he was gone.
He sighed and grabbed four cherry suckers from the new brand Popz Remix. He hoped they would be good and then paid for them at the counter where an indifferent teenager sat on his phone. As he was exiting the store, he unwrapped one of the suckers and stuck it in his mouth and twirled it around his tongue.It was not nearly as good as the original Popz but it was enough to satiate his addiction.
When the gas tank was full , he hopped into the car and started the engine.
He drove towards Spark's home and wondered what the day would hold for him. He sped down the road and felt the wind blow through his black hair.
Soon enough, he pulled up to the house. He noted Elbow's car still in the driveway and he sighed but parked Spark's car next to Elbow's.
He methodically rolled the cherry sucker across his tongue and this calmed him as he shut of the engintion and walked to the front door. He knocked on the door and he heard the rushed footsteps of a person inside coming quickly to the door.
The door opened quickly and Laser was bombarded by K.O. who jumped up to his chest.
"Dad!" K.O. said, excitedly. It felt foriegn and exciting to K.O. to finally have a father after growing up without one and Laser caught his son and smiled.
"How did you sleep?" Laser asked as he entered the home, carrying his son.
"Really good!," K.O. said, enthusiastically, and Laser looked around the living room and saw Sparks and Elbow sitting on the couch together. They were sitting at opposite ends of the couch watching T.V. and Laser noted how K.O. must have been sitting between them as a soggy bowl of cereal rested on the coffee table.
Both Sparks and Elbow looked exhausted but Carol looked towards Laser and smiled. Elbow glared at him from past his sunglasses. Laser set his son down and walked to Carol, handing her the keys to her car.
"Thank you," he said. Carol nodded and avoided eye contact.
An awkward silence fell over the three which K.O. was oblivious to. K.O. looked to his dad and jumped up and down excitedly.
"Guess who called this morning?" K.O. said to his father, barely holding in his excitement.
"Who?" Laser asked.
"Foxtail! She wants all of us to go to P.O.I.N.T prep today for a P.O.I.N.T reunion! Like a party!" K.O. said.
Dread consumed Laserblast's body but he forced a smile to K.O..
"Sounds fun," Laser forced out through his teeth and K.O. smiled.
"I have my own tux! Hold on, I'll show you!" K.O. said and he ran to his room. Laser looked towards Elbow and Sparks and knew why they had felt tense. This "reunion" would be difficult at best.
