Their Respective Edens
Things changed
so slowly, so gradually
she wondered if it were a dream
Or was he simply waking
from the dream?
She knew it wasn't her; her dream
because she'd always said,
always believed
and she knew herself well enough
to know she'd truly
believed.
It didn't matter what others said.
It didn't matter what either of them
said, she believed
And now she was seeing him bloom
like she always knew,
But she also knew
it wasn't her words
that made him bloom.
And then she worked it out.
Secrets,
snide comments,
admissions laced with shame
and the yeaning to share it all
And that was okay; both their hearts
and lives are bigger
than each other,
and as long as she can hold his hand
and he holds hers,
it's okay.
He's allowed to have his own Eden
as she has hers.
