The Rest of Our Lives
Tadashi sighed shakily, tugging at his shirt collar.
He had been so sure before, but now? He wasn't sure what to do with himself.
"Bro? You sure you can handle this?" Hiro asked, glancing up from one of his projects. Tadashi had been pacing around the garage for the last hour and the 17 year old was growing concerned.
"I can!" Tadashi exclaimed, running a hand through his hair. "It's just… You know what I've been planning…"
"I know. I helped you pick the ring out, didn't I?"
Tadashi glanced to the small square box poking out of his jacket pocket.
He still couldn't believe he was going to do this.
He was trying to convince himself this was a bad idea. After all, he was going to be starting his first year of med school soon as well. Things would be hectic for awhile still.
"Maybe I shouldn't. Maybe I should just save this and when I graduate and start my internship-"
"TADASHI!"
He jumped, bringing his hand up to his ear as his transmitter slid. He had been fidgeting with it as well.
Hiro pushed his glasses up further on his nose, a look of unamusement in his eyes.
"Listen to yourself. Do you really want to hold onto that for five years?"
"No…" He mumbled.
"Do you WANT to wait that long to marry her?"
"NO! I just…" Tadashi sunk back into the couch, head in his hands. "I dunno, I dunno…"
Hiro sighed, going to his side, stroking his back.
"Easy now, Dashi. C'mon take a big breath."
He inhaled slowly.
"Let it out."
He exhaled, his shoulders slumping, giving Hiro a grateful look.
It was still crazy to think that three years ago his sibling had just started college and now he was in his final year.
"Now, what do you think?" Hiro pulled the box out, opening it.
Tadashi still couldn't believe they had managed to get such a ring. It was a simple silver band but set in the center was a bright topaz in the shape of a heart.
"I think it's perfect and so her."
"Then, you're gonna go out with her, you two crazy kids are gonna have a blast… and when you turn your butt back up here, I wanna hear that you're gonna be planning a wedding." Hiro shoved him playfully. "Show me, so I don't screw up with Kathleen."
"Oh shut up." He chuckled, ruffling his hair. "... Thanks Hiro."
"Anytime, Nii-san. Love ya."
"Love you too."
oooooo
The night had gone off without a hitch, despite Tadashi's hesitations. It was a simpler date, going out for a light dinner and a walk in the park afterwards.
Honey Lemon was just happy to be by his side. Everything had been so hectic lately she was just looking forward to a night of just relaxing with him. She had her arm looped with his as they walked, her head on his shoulder.
"Then, that awful Baron Von Steamer threw me!"
"Oh ouch!"
And share a few war stories that Hiro hadn't told him yet.
Tadashi winced, bringing her closer, kissing her head.
"My poor Sweet Honey."
"I was alright, just mad." She kissed his cheek, nuzzling a little. "Least we got it taken care of in the end."
"That's awesome." He smiled. "Heh, still crazy to think of all the stuff that happened."
"Some stuff I'm honestly glad you never had to see." She cupped his cheek, running her thumb over the trail of scars across his face. "I'm just happy seeing the boy I love most here with me."
"And that boy loves being with you." He touched his forehead to hers, sighing happily.
She nuzzled a little, kissing his cheek.
"Tada…"
"Akio…"
She brought both arms around him, hugging him tightly. Tadashi brought his arms around her, nuzzling the top of her head.
Honey Lemon still wondered how she got so lucky. It had seemed like a dream back then to walk into his hospital room and see him there alive and well.
Now, that was long since passed.
Celebrating their achievements together… Holidays.
"So… does your abuela still think I'm a twig?"
"Si, mi corazon. She still does."
"Guess she'll have plenty of time to try to fatten me up." Tadashi mused as they made it to a fountain in the middle of the park.
Honey Lemon raised an eyebrow, standing up straighter.
"I mean, I'll have to make some adjustments but we can work that out. Holidays and all that."
"Yes of course."
Where is he going with this?
"And of course, getting your brother to stop wanting me dead."
"Akira's trying." She insisted, grinning sheepishly. "Besides, after I threatened to never help him figure out a sewing pattern again he promised not to."
Tadashi laughed, bringing her in close again.
"Bless you. You wonderful, wonderful woman."
Honey Lemon giggled, kissing his chin, bringing her arms around his neck.
"I do my best."
Tadashi's eyes were warm as he gazed into hers.
"You know… I did get some advice from that brother of yours actually."
Oh dear, what'd Aki try to convince him of?
Tadashi held up a hand, fiddling for his phone, setting it down on the edge of the fountain, tapping the screen as music began to play.
Honey Lemon's eyes widened as she recognized the song.
Tadashi grinned, giving a bow before offering a hand to her.
"M'lady, may I have this dance?"
She beamed, taking his hand as they started to dance to the music, a fast paced song that she remembered dancing to so many times as a teenager in her room, fantasizing about the day she had someone to join her.
Tadashi easily kept his pace up with hers, silently thanking Alice for all of the years he spent learning dance beside her and going to competitions. He couldn't tear his eyes off of her.
He just had to pace himself. Opening up with a dance and showing her how much he cared for her.
Tadashi just hoped his heart wouldn't leap out of his chest and run down the street with how fast it was beating.
She met his gaze. He smiled, mouthing the lyrics to the song.
"She was looking so right in her diamond and frill."
Honey Lemon smiled, touching her head to his as he brought her in close, the song starting to fade.
Tadashi kissed her quickly, stunning her before he spun her around one last time, letting go of her hand as she twirled around.
He got into position, taking her hand as she stopped. On the last note of the song, he propped the box open, presenting it to her.
Honey Lemon's eyes went wide, covering her mouth with her free hand.
"Tada…?"
Tadashi smiled softly, kissing her hand.
"Akio… I've loved every moment I've spent with you. Ever since we started hanging out, to now. Every single moment was just magic… We've been through a lot too haven't we?"
"From supervillains to digimon…" Her eyes fell to the ring, her heartbeat picking up. This… tThis wasn't what she thought it was, was it?
Would he want to… spend the rest of his life with me?
Tadashi grinned.
"And everything else in between… I love you so much. So, so much." He took a deep breath.
There was no going back now. Far from it.
Her eyes were shiny, a look of hope dancing in her green eyes.
"Akio Miyazaki…" He held the ring up higher. "Will you marry me?"
Honey Lemon giggled, nodding quickly, wiping at her eyes quickly.
"Yes!" She whispered. "Yes!" She laughed. "Of course!"
Tadashi was overjoyed, his eyes full of warmth as he slid the ring onto her finger. He opened his arms to her as she fell into them, peppering his head with kisses.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!"
"Oh, Honey!" He hugged her tightly, kissing her head. "I should be the one thanking you."
Honey Lemon cupped his cheek, smiling softly.
"Hm… Married to a handsome doctor to be. That sounds like my kind of life." She remarked, stroking his cheek with her thumb.
Tadashi leaned into her hand.
"Even if I'll keep weird hours and all that?"
"Especially…" She leaned her head against his, sighing happily. "Married."
"To my one and only love."
Tadashi closed the distance, kissing her.
Honey Lemon brought her arms around his neck.
After a moment, they pulled back, gazing into each other's eyes.
"Mrs. Hamada… What do you think of that?"
She gazed at her ring as it glinted off the lights around the fountain.
"I love it… just like I love you."
