Author's Notes

Before we start the chapter I just want to say Happy New Years everyone. Hope 2020 is a great year for you and that you manage to accomplish what ever goals you set for yourself

I stood at the entry to the Nimbassa Gym ready to earn my 4th gym badge. I was about to enter when I heard a familar voice call out to me. "YO Chase wait up". I turned around and saw Cameron jogging towards me.

"Hey Cam, what are you doing here?" I asked once he was standing in front of me.

"I came here to challenge the gym leader".

"You're taking on the gyms too?"

"Yeah, needa take on strong trainers to help me get back Purloin from Team Plasma and the gym leaders are perfect for that". I was unsurprised by his answer for taking on the gyms.

"So how many badges do you have?"

"Three, came to get my fourth".

I'm here to get my fourth as well".

"Rock paper scissors then?"

I nodded and we hit our fist on our open palm while saying "One, two, three shoot". On the word shoot we out made our fist take the object we wanted. My fist made the shape of scissors while Cameron's made the shape of paper.

"I win, again" I said with a smirk. Cameron just rolled his eyes at me and we walked inside. We walked in the first thing I noticed was Roxie standing on a makeshift stage. She spotted me when I walked in so she hopped of the stage and came straight up to me and stood in front of me with her arms crossed.

"So back from training are you?" She asked in a strange tone. I just nodded unsure if it was safe to answer. "You didn't do anything stupid and barely sleep like you did when you challenged me".

"No I didn't do that this time." I told her with me.

Roxie gave me a look up and down as if assessing me before responding "Fine, but if you collapse again I am setting my Scolipede on you".

I let out a laugh and responded "Fine, fine but I promise I didn't".

"You better not have but I haven't seen you for the last four days so…"

I just nodded knowing she was only saying this out of concern then asked "So have you been here the last few days?"

"Yeah, decided best to wait here for you. Though Elesa only said I could hang around if I played music when she had her battles".

"Well you only have one more battle to play for her".

"I know Chase good luck," she touched my arm briefly then walked over to her makeshift stage.

"What did she mean about you collapsing?" Cameron asked me confused. I told him what happened after my battle with Roxie as we walked up to the Gym Leader who was standing on the edge of the battle field. Cameron just shook his head at me and said "Jeez man you do sometimes have a bad habit of overexerting yourself". I just shrugged in response knowing it was true. We then stood in front of the Gym Leader. She looked vaguely familiar but I wasn't sure why.

She looked us up and down as if assessing us introduced herself "I am Elesa, Nimbasa's Gym Leader, who are you?

"I'm Chase Graceson", I said introducing myself.

"So you're Chase," she in a tone that sound like I'd been spoken about.

"I'm Cameron Theron," Cameron said introducing himself.

"How many badges do the pair of you have?" Elesa asked

"Three," Cam and I said in unison.

Elesa nodded then asked "Who will be battling first?"

"I will be," I answered as I stepped forward and went to one end of the battlefield. Elesa nodded then went to opposite end. She then threw out three Pokéballs. Out of them came an Emolga, Zebstrika and a Flaafy. I looked at her confused and asked "Why did you send out three Pokémon?"

"To make it a little more difficult for trainers. The League Association decided once a trainer had three badges that a Gym Leader could battle with up to three Pokémon at a time against a challenger instead of the standard 1 on 1 format. And if the gym leader send out multiple Pokémon so may the challenger.".

"What's the reasoning for that?"

"We've noticed since the minimum trainer age was pushed to 16 last year most challengers are able to defeat a Gym Leader's Pokémon in a one on one battle easily most of the time once they are ready to earn the fourth to eighth badge.". I nodded my understanding then sent out Lillian and Thurston. Roxie then struck up a cord and starting singing.

"Thurston take out that Emolga with Rock Tomb, Lillian use Dig on that Flaafy," I commanded knowing I had to take them out first before I took on Elesa's Zebstrika. Thurston put his hands together while red energy formed between his hands then slammed them on the ground sending energy into the ground making rocks fly up at Emolga while Lillian tunnelled into the ground.

"Dodge Emolga!" Elesa cried out a little to late as the rocks slammed into Emolga knocking it out in a single blow. Elesa then recalled her Emolga. "Flaafy leap up to dodge that Buneary's attack and hit that Darumaka with Volt Switch". Her Flaafy complied leaping up just as Lilian emerged from the ground then glowed yellow and dove into Thurston. Flaafy slammed into Thurston who grabbed into Flaafy to ensure it couldn't get away.

"Lillian I'll hold Flaafy you attack it. Thurston called out to Lillian. Lillian nodded and burrowed underground.

"Zebstrika use Quick Attack on that Darumaka to make it release Flaafy," Elesa commanded. Zebstrika glowed white and repeatedly slammed into Thurston but he refused to let go of Flaafy. Lillian then emerged from her hole glowing white as she evolved from a Bunneary to a Lopunny. Thurston also started to glow white as well and he evolved into a Darmanitan. Lillian slammed into Flaafy causing it to faint. Zebstrika once again came charging at Thurston. Thurston's fist glowed red as he punched Zebstrika the moment it slammed into him knocking it out in one shot.

Roxie sang the final lyrics of the song as Elesa recalled her fainted Pokémon. She "Here Chase that was an electrifying battle. You really grounded me," Elesa told me once she. I silently groaned as I realised she was making a pun. She then pulled two items out of her coat pocket and handed them to me. "Here Chase, this is TM 72 Volt Switch and it will allow you to attack then switch out that Pokémon after the attack if you wish. And here is the Bolt Badge," She told me.

"Thank you Elesa," I told her then walked over to my Pokémon. "You guys were fantastic and I'm so happy you both evolved," I told them before returning them.

"That was an epic battle man you have grown as a trainer," Cameron told me as he clapped me on the shoulder.

"Yeah Chase, you improve with every battle. You really seem to a have natural talent for battling," Roxie told me with a smile. I blushed a little at that comment.

Cameron then turned to Elesa and asked "Are you able to battle me now?"

Elesa nodded and responded "Sure give me two secs". Elesa then went and grabbed three new Pokéballs and then she and Cameron went to opposite ends of the battle field and got ready to send out there Pokémon.

10 minutes later

"Yes got my fourth", Cameron cried out happily as we walked out of the Gym.

"Congrats man, you seriously earned that," I told him.

"Battle was tougher than I thought though,".

"Well you both have seriously improved since your battles with me," Roxie chimed in.

I was about to say something when an old man asked "Excuse but have you seen any Pokémon that look like they were abandoned by their trainers".

"No sorry I haven't," I told him noticed a symbol on his hat that looked kinda familiar.

Cameron then yelled angrily "You're looking to steal them and treat them horribly aren't you, you Plasma bastard!"

"What the hell man? You don't know he's with Team Plasma", I told him.

"Yes he is look at the symbol on his hat. That's Team Plasma's symbol," Cameron told me heatedly. That explained why the symbol looked familiar.

"It's true I was apart of Team Plasma two years ago but no longer. If you wish to understand more please go to Driftveil there is a house near the Gym where I reside," the old man told us before heading to the Gym.

"You are coming with us to Driftveil Cameron," I told him.

"No I'm not I refuse to listen to what a member of team Plasma has to say," He told me stubbornly.

"Yes you will. I understand why you hate Team Plasma but that's no reason to lash out at someone, especially is they used to be a former member of them. Now will you come with me willingly or am I going have to get Thurston to drag you there by force". Cameron looked me dead in the eyes and saw that I was serious.

"Fine I'll go," he told me somewhat irritably.

"You also may get a lead on your stolen Purrloin". I told him. Cameron just nodded and the three of us then made our way to the Pokémon Centre so we could grab our things and head to Driftveil City.

A/N

Chase now has his 4th gym badge. Thurston and Lillian had already evolved by the time I got to Elesa in game. I kinda overgrinded with Thurston.

The song Roxie sang is called High Voltage by Your Favorite Martian.
