Chapter 17: When Push Comes To Shove
Castle of Lions - Dining Room
Sitting in the dining hall of the castle, Ace was chowing down on some chicken while everyone else ate and listened to his story. "So, my dad inherited the journal from my grandfather and passed it down to me before he passed away. It's like a father-son tradition."
Ironwood nodded as he set his knife and fork down on his plate. "So your family knew the truth long ago?" Ace quickly nodded. "Exactly! We swore an oath not to tell anyone else about our knowledge of the Gods and the Relics."
Ace looked around at everyone else. "But seeing as you all already know, that's completely out the window."
"What do we do from here on out?", Shiro questioned. Ironwood stood up from his seat. "We have both the Relic of Knowledge and the Relic of Creation in out possessions. The Relic of Knowledge will remain in this castle until we can find another solution to keeping it secure." His scroll suddenly rang and he took it out, the caller ID reading 'Jacques Schnee'.
"In the meantime, I have other matters to attend to." He walked away to answer the call. Nano stood up. "I'm gonna go work on the power armor some more." He walked away, with Pidge following him. "I'll help too!"
Everyone else began leaving except for Keith and Qrow, who sat opposite from each other from the table. Qrow took a small gulp from his flask. "I know what you're thinking. You're wondering why I wasn't in your life."
Keith said nothing as he stared down at his lap. Qrow stood up from his seat and began walking over to him. "Listen kid, I'm sorry." He stood beside him. "To be fair, I didn't even know that you existed until a few days ago. Even though we've known each other for a few months."
Qrow tucked his flask away. "But I didn't find out about you being my son until like 5 days ago when your mom told me." Keith took a deep breath as he lifted his head up. "For part of my life, I was raised by Kenneth Kogane, who I thought was my father."
Keith looked up at him with an upset expression. "All of this isn't easy to take in." Sighing, Qrow sat down beside him and placed his hand on Keith's shoulder. "We'll work it out, kid..."
Castle of Lion Training Room
Training bots swung their swords at Krista, who quickly dodged most of them and fired crossbow bolts at them. She quickly blocked one of the bot's sword with her crossbow and kicked it back with her foot. Her crossbow reassembled into a sniper rifle and shot down the rest from a safe distance.
The training sequence had ended. Krista sighed in relief as she strapped her weapon to her back. Suddenly, Lance popped up from behind her. "That was awesome!" Krista freaked out and jumped back. "I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to scare you!", Lance apologized.
Krista quickly shook her head. "N-No, it's okay! I didn't see you there..." Lance nervously rubbed the back of his neck. "You're really good with your weapon. Who taught you how to fight like that?"
Krista smiled a bit. "My mom did. She was very talented when she was my age."
"Speaking of your mom, we didn't get to meet her. Does she work a lot?", Lance asked. Krista shook her head. "No. She and my dad divorced three years ago. She currently lives in Vale."
"Oh.", was all Lance could say, but Krista patted his shoulder. "But don't worry. She might come visit soon."
In the observation room, Fredrick was quiet as he watched Lance and Krista chat with each other. Shiro soon appeared by him. "Nano and Pidge just finished repairing the suit." Fredrick looked at him. "Thanks, man."
Shiro stood by him. "I also just wanted to say thank you for helping us save my brother." Fredrick nodded. "It's not a problem. That's a Huntsman's duty." The two stared back at Lance and Krista's conversation in silence. After a bit, Fredrick broke the silence.
"Besides Keith...do you have someone you truly care about?" Shiro let out a heavy sigh. "I did once." He scratched the back of his neck. "But now he's not there anymore."
Fredrick gave him a quick pat on the back. "Trust me. I've been there before." Suddenly, Shiro's communicator came on and he quickly answered it. "Yes?...I'll be right there."
Sinclair Household
Outside in the field, Ironwood, Shiro, Allura, Ace, and Team RWBY, who was about 7 feet away, watched as an Atlas airship with the Schnee family crest landed in front of them. Jacques Schnee walked out and towards the general.
"So let me get this straight, James. In addition to this nonsensical embargo of yours crippling my business, you've also decided you have the authority to commandeer private property?", Jacques angrily asked.
Ironwood remained unfazed as he stared at the businessman. "When the Council hears about this, you will never-"
"Actually, I've already informed them. As this is now the site of a classified military operation, it didn't even require a vote.", Ironwood calmly told him. "Didn't require a vote?!", Jacques questioned.
"You might want to brush up on Council law before you lose this upcoming election, Jacques. Now. I've allowed you to land here once as a courtesy. The next time, it won't be a friendly reception.", Ironwood threatened.
Jacques threw an angry glare at him. "Lately, you seem to forget who your friends really are. I'm going to get that Council seat, James, and maybe then, you'll-" Before he could finish what he was saying, he spotted Weiss with her team, Keith, and Allura.
Without a single thought, Jacques walked past Ironwood. "You...You roped my missing daughter into these schemes of yours, too?" Ironwood said nothing. "How long has she been back in Atlas? Did Winter know about this?", he angrily asked.
Weiss stepped forward. "It was my decision to come here. Just like it was my decision to leave. Or have you forgotten all about that?"
"If you think I'm one to forget anything, girl, then you've misjudged the man your father is.", Jacques said to her. Weiss' attitude shifted. "Believe me, I know exactly the kind of man you are."
Jacques became furious in an instant. "How dare you speak to me that way!? I have half a mind to-" Before he was finished with his threat, Ace appeared between the two and pointed his sword at the man's neck. "Try to touch her. I dare you."
Ironwood, Shiro, and Allura walked over. "Ace, that's enough.", Allura said to him. Ace pulled his sword away and Ironwood spoke, "Half a mind to what, Jacques?" Jacques looked back at the three before adjusting himself.
"You know... your mother was devastated when you left." Weiss looked shocked. "Didn't leave her room for days. You know how… she gets... when she's upset." While Weiss looked very sad, Ruby, Blake, and Yang looked angry, with Blake being the angriest.
Jacques smirked before turning back to the others. "I knew one day, you would overextend your reach. I didn't come here to beg for an abandoned mine. I came here to thank you…"
Ace stood behind Weiss and placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. Blake and Ruby, in return, held her hands. "..for personally handing me the noose to hang you. You'll regret this." Jacques looked at Team RWBY and Ace. "So these are the little friends you threw everything away for?"
Weiss shook her head. "Not friends. Family."
Jacques didn't seem to care about her statement and walked back to his airship, with it taking off.
"Boy, sure hope we don't see him again.", Yang commented. Weiss sighed. "On the news, yes. He's currently running for a seat in the Council."
"Weiss is correct.", Ironwood replied. "He's going up against Robyn Hill." Everyone turned to look at him. "Who's Robyn Hill?", Shiro asked.
Galra Empire - Main Commandship
In her secret lab, Haggar had a strange purple orb in front of her as she viewed the conversation through it. The view was coming from Shiro's perspective. After the conversation ended, Haggar made the orb disappear before making her way to the command deck.
Once there, she stood by Zarkon, who was seated in his throne. "The Paladins and their allies suspect nothing. They don't know about us approaching the planet."
"Excellent.", Zarkon responded. "How long until we reach Remnant?" One of the soldiers turned to him. "Approximately 9 Quintants, sir." Zarkon smirked. "Continue forward."
Hope you guys enjoyed this chapter!
Lance and Krista are starting to bond as you can see. Hopefully I can do more with the two.
Ace is shown to be very protective of Weiss when she was confronted by her father , Jacques Schnee. Speaking of which, the story is slowly getting some elements from Volume 7, but I won't spoil much because I know most of you haven't seen or are caught up with Volume 7. But I will say it is going crazy right now.
Zarkon and the Galra Empire are almost to Remnant! This is gonna be one epic showdown! Also, in case some of you are confused, a quintant is the equivalent of a day in the VLD universe, meaning that Zarkon and the Galra will be on Remnant in 9 days! This is gonna be intense!
See you guys next time!~
