How Do You Measure a Year?

A drabble or short story for each day of the year. For Toxic Rainfall's "A Drabble a Day" Challenge. Day 1- The birth of Lily Luna Potter. Day 6- Andromeda Tonks reads about the arrest of her cousin Sirius Black in the paper. Day 19 - Draco Malfoy struggles with being a Death Eater. Rated T because I don't know what might come up later.

17. Day 17: Thief

Day 17: Thief

"Ted Tonks is nothing but a filthy little Mudblood and a thief!" Narcissa Black shouted at her sister. The sixteen-year-old had been quite certain that if she visited her sister, if just spoke to her calmly and rationally, she could convince Andromeda not to make the biggest mistake at her life. But Andi just wouldn't listen to a word she said and Narcissa hadn't managed to remain calm for long. Nor had Andromeda.

"Don't you call him that!" Andromeda snapped, her voice harsh, "Don't you ever use that word in front of me again."

Before Narcissa could retort that it was the truth, Andromeda continued, "And what do you mean he's a thief, anyway?"

"He's stealing you! He's stealing you away from your life, from your family, from everything you're supposed to be!" From me. Narcissa refused to let the words come out of her mouth. It would only make her sound childish, vulnerable, and Narcissa Black refused to be vulnerable.

Andromeda's expression had turned from angry to almost sad, "He's not stealing me, Cissy. I would have left even if it weren't for Ted. I couldn't deal with it anymore, the prejudice, the hatred... Everything about our family is just...wrong. It's too late for Bella, I think, she's in too deep. But you could still get out, Cissy," Her eyes gleamed with intensity. She took a step toward her sister, "Listen, Mum and Dad and Bella won't want anything to do with me once I marry Ted, but that doesn't mean you can't come visit. You know where to find me if you want to, Cissy."

For just a minute, Narcissa was tempted. But then she straightened her posture, her expression hardening, "And breathe the same air as that Mudblood scum? I don't think so. When you come to your senses, you can come find me, Andromeda." Then she turned on her heel and strode away. And that was the last time Narcissa Black ever saw her sister.

Not sure how much I like this, but I always appreciate reviews. Originally I was thinking of doing something with Mundungus for this word (for obvious reasons), but I couldn't think of what to do and then I got this idea.
