When the occasion of the next trial finally arrived - Several pranks later -, Avrria found out from the man she had started to refer to as Overseer Grumpypants that it required her to go to the Academy's jail and sauntered down there, whistling casually. After the previous success, she was less nervous. Much less.
Especially considering that she had some back-up. She wasn't planning to cheat, having a little more honour than your average Sith, but last time she had needed some help, so this time Tali had sent her prepared. Of course, wandering in with the Emperor's Wrath would attract more than a little unwelcome attention. So she was assisted by Vette, who was rather reluctant to return to the jail and muttered unhappily the whole way there.
When they arrived, Avie strode straight up to a jailer who was hanging around and tapped him hard in the back. He spun around and gave them a suspicious look, his gaze falling on the unfortunate Vette. He frowned, not sure of himself after a few years, "Don't I know you?" He demanded to know crossly.
"We've never met before," Vette insisted.
Avrria cut in impatiently, "You haven't," She assured the still doubtful man, "Now, I'm here for the trial. What is it?" There was no patience at all now as she snapped out her question.
"Take this," He handed her a syringe full of some odd black gloop. Then he pointed over to a cage in the corner, where a small green Twi'lek was trying to squeeze herself through the bars. When she realised they were all looking at her, she stepped back and adopted an innocent smile. It wasn't very convincing. "Some Sith scientist wants to see what affect it'll have on her," The jailer explained, "Personally, I'm hoping it's fatal," He added.
"Well I see you haven't got any less nasty," Vette noted quietly.
"What was that?" He snapped.
Avrria hastily snatched the syringe, "Great! We'll be on our way then," She cut in with forced cheerfulness. As they walked away, she could feel both Vette and her intended victim staring at her. Being caught between two unhappy Twi'leks wasn't particularly fun.
"You're not actually gonna do it, are you?" The blue Twi'lek who was meant to be helping her asked, her tone very confrontational and a tiny bit nervous.
Avie sighed. Truth be told, that had been bothering her, too. While she had enjoyed the sheer chaos she had been able to engage in as a Sith and had no qualms about destroying K'lor'slugs and other pests, actively torturing another sentient being didn't sit well with her. Much to her mother's disappointment. But right now, she could see no way around it. That was why she had been sent here, she guessed, not to have the fun she had discovered was possible here, that had just been a way to get her to agree to stay...
She gritted her teeth. It was too late to back out now. "I don't have a choice, do I?" She asked as they reached the cage.
"Actually, you do," The prisoner piped up, "Wouldn't expect any Sith to consider it, but if you are going to..." She paused hopefully.
Avrria glanced at Vette, then back to the other Twi'lek, "If it'll help, I'll do it," She admitted.
"Alright then...They've been trying these things on me for a while, and I've started to see a pattern. If there's too many...What did he call them?" There was another small pause, "Jakkilian spores, I think. If there's too many, it won't work. And it's a common error, made by whoever mixed that thing up, so you won't be blamed," She assured Avrria.
The young Sith nodded, "I'll see what I can do," She told her. Turning back to Vette, she inquired, "Aunty Tal will know where to find those, right?" Vette nodded, so the two women set off again, this time hurrying back to Tali's quarters.
When the Dark Lady noticed them come running in, she looked up at them curiously, "What are you two up to now?" She asked.
"We need some Jakkilian spores, whatever those are," Avie explained.
Tali gave a nod of recognition, "Those things. Creepy little plant bastards. Tend to grow in the lower wilds area. Especially in the tomb of Marka Ragnos, for some reason," She revealed. Then she got up, motioning for them to stay put, she disappeared into her room. After a long interval, punctuated with mutters from Tali and the sound of rummaging, the Sith reappeared and tossed a Holoprojector to Avrria. "That'll give you some idea of what they look like," She explained.
The acolyte caught it and smiled, "Thanks, Aunty Tal. I'll be back soon then," She answered as she set off again. She dragged poor, reluctant Vette off in a taxi to the lower wilds and, after lightening frying some persistent Tuk'ata who wanted to eat her, she ran into the tomb. The entrance contained some lunatics, a few wild animals, but no plants.
An annoyed Avrria ended up removing the creatures on her way through. They had to delve several chambers deep into the tomb before the plants started appearing, and Tali's description of them as creepy was very apt. They were strange, squat black things that seemed to emit grey-ish black bubbles and would twist as soon as anyone tried to pick them up. Fortunately, smacking them with a warblade then grabbing them was an effective harvesting method.
When she had an armful, Avie headed back to the taxi as fast as possible, with Vette close behind. On the taxi journey, the acolyte conducted some experiments of her own, dropping the spores into the syringe and watching the gloop bubble ominously. "I hope we've got this right," She commented as they jumped down from the taxi speeder.
Vette eyed the syringe doubtfully. "Me too," She agreed.
Despite these doubts, the young Sith returned to the jail, injected the victim and ticked another trial off her list, which Tali announced warranted yet another party.
