Chapter 18 – A special day
It was now almost Christmas, and I had convinced Troy to let me decorate the house with Christmas decorations. Troy was honestly not that much of a Christmas fan, but he admitted that he found it fun and nice with the decorations. I think that he mostly liked it, because he saw me having fun with it. He had helped me put up some light, and he had even made a decoration with a candle in himself. There was not much decorations, but it was nice.
I had finally fully accepted that I was not going to play handball again. I still missed it, and especially my teammates, but I was still just walking and some days I still needed my crutches, so there was nothing to do, but accept it and fill something else into the time. I spent most of the time studying, and when Troy was at practice, I spent the time with Shar, Tay or Chad. I still went to watch Troy's games, and sometimes I also went to watch Chad's games, just to get a sense of handball. I admitted gladly that I missed Troy like crazy, when he was away with soccer, or when he had to go on a fieldtrip with his class, and I was left alone for a few days in the apartment. I hated being away from him. And I knew he felt the same way.
I had been alone for a few days now, because Troy had been on a fieldtrip to the other end of Denmark with his class. He had called and texted me, whenever he had the chance, just to say hi. I loved him for that. He always made sure that I was okay, when he was out of town.
I was doing some Christmas shopping with Shar, who was now 5 months pregnant. Jonas had been so excited when he was told about the pregnancy. Their parents had not been thrilled at first, but after some talking, they had started to look forward to it. Troy had been a bit worried that his 'little sister' was pregnant already at the age of 18, but after some talk, he had been okay with it, mostly because Jonas had promised to stay by Shar's side no matter what. And he better keep the promise, or else both Troy and I would hunt him down for leaving Shar. Troy and I were looking forward to becoming aunt and uncle to the little child. And Shar was the one, who was most excited, because she loved kids, and now she was finally having her own child. Shar and I spent an entire day at the mall checking off the list with presents that we needed to buy.
"I'm still not sure what to buy for Troy," I said as we walked through a store with menswear.
"I'm buying socks and underwear," Shar said shrugging her shoulders, "he wished for it, so that's what he'll get."
I nodded, "yeah, but I'm not giving my boyfriend socks and underwear for Christmas."
"Well, what about a nice shirt then?" Shar suggested.
"I was thinking about a new watch, actually," I said. "His watch broke a few weeks ago, because he dropped it on the floor in the locker room."
Shar nodded, "well, then it's a good idea."
I ended up buying a watch for him, and then we had almost everything. We only needed to buy the presents for each other, but we could not do that, while the other was there. We went back to Troy's and mine apartment to eat dinner together. It was nice having a whole day with Shar. We had not had much time together since she got pregnant. Shar ended up with spending the night at our place, because we talked that much and watched a few movies while eating candy and chips.
I woke up to a lovely breakfast made by Shar, who had been awake early and had decided that she wanted to make breakfast for me. We ate our breakfast and then Shar left to spend the day with Jonas. Troy would come home later that day, and I was looking forward to it. I cuddled up at the couch with a book and a cup of coffee, waiting for my man to come home.
Troy came in and called out, "babe, I'm home," as he closed the door behind him. In the moment I had heard the door open I had jumped up from the couch running to the entrance. I almost flew into his arms and hugged him tightly without noticing that he was holding flowers in his hand. "Hi love," he chuckled as he held me tightly with one arm.
"Hi," I smiled and kissed him softly.
"These are for you," he smiled and gave me the flowers.
I smiled as I looked at the flowers, "they are so beautiful. Thanks babe," I said and kissed him softly again. We went and found a vase for the flowers and got them placed in the living room. "What did I do to deserve flowers?" I asked as I had placed the vase at the small table beside the couch.
Troy wrapped his arms around me, "you are my girlfriend," he said simply and kissed me softly.
I smiled at him, "that's a good reason," I giggled.
He nodded, "I think so too," he chuckled.
"I missed you," I said resting my head against his chest. I inhaled his scent. There was nothing better than the scent of Troy. When he was away, I always slept in his shirts so that I had his scent close to me.
"I missed you too," he kissed the top of my head and caressed my back. "But you spent the day with Shar yesterday, did you have fun?"
I nodded as we sat down in the couch, "I did. It was nice spending all day with her."
Troy smiled, "Good. So, are you done with our Christmas presents then?"
"Almost, I still need to buy the one for Shar, because I could not buy it, when she was watching," I smiled and placed my feet across Troy's legs.
Troy rubbed my feet and nodded, "yeah, I see. Well, then I need your present, and we need to buy one for Shar," he said. I nodded. We sat in silence for some time just enjoying being together again. "What was our plan for dinner today?" Troy asked looking at me.
"We planned chicken with vegetables," I smiled at him.
"Sounds healthy," he chuckled.
I nodded, "yeah, it does, and it is good for us."
"Really?" he chuckled and moved my legs from his lap and moved to lie down beside me.
I smiled and nodded as I ran my fingers through his hair. "Were you hoping for something else?" I asked.
"Well, that depends," he chuckled.
"On what?" I giggled.
"Well, we could go out?" he suggested.
I raised an eyebrow, "are you inviting me out?"
Troy nodded, "yes, do you mind?" he chuckled kissing me.
I shook my head, "no of course not," I giggled. "So where are we going?"
"You'll see," he smiled and kissed me again.
"If you are like this every time you get home from a trip, I'm almost ready to say that you need to take more trips," I giggled.
Troy chuckled, "nah, I'd rather be home with you and take you out a bit more than I've done the last 6 months," he said and caressed my cheek. We had been out a few times, but honestly, we had not had that much time due to school, work and Troy's soccer. Now we were both settled at college, so that meant more time for each other again.
"I'd love that," I smiled and kissed his wrist.
"I know," he chuckled. "I've booked a table for us at 7, so what do you say we take a shower and then get ready?"
"Let's do that," I smiled at him before kissing him softly.
We went to the bathroom to shower together. It had somehow become a thing we did whenever we had the time for it, we would take a shower together.
"So, what should I wear?" I asked looking at Troy.
Troy smiled, "well, I think it is way too long ago that I saw you in this black dress," he said and picked out my black dress from the closet.
I smiled, "that kind of night," I raised an eyebrow at him.
He shrugged, "only the best for you, my love," he said.
I put on my stockings and then the black dress before doing my makeup and hair. While I was doing so Troy said he would go out with the trash for me. I thought it was a weird time to that, since we could just take it out, when we left, but he insisted. When he came back, Troy smiled at me through the mirror.
"Are you going to stare at me all night?" I smiled at him through the mirror as I finished up.
Troy nodded, "yes, because you look even more beautiful than normal," he said and walked towards me.
I blushed, "you look handsome," I said and stepped close to him. He was dressed in black jeans and a white shirt with a black blazer. Even now, more than 10 years after I had met him the first time, he could still make me blush. I loved everything about it. I loved everything about our relationship as it was now.
Troy leaned down and kissed me softly. "Are you ready to go out with me?" he whispered.
I nodded, "I'll just grab a blazer and then put on my shoes," I said.
We went to the entrance to put on our shoes and then Troy helped me put on my jacket, before he took his own. Before we left the apartment, Troy did something that he never did; he checked his pockets, but I did not think much about it, because I assumed he just checked that he had his keys and his wallet.
We drove off to a well-known place. The sushi restaurant. I smiled at him, "you really know how to make my day, don't you?"
Troy nodded, "I do, and I want to make all of your days, babe," he smiled and leaned over to kiss me, before he stepped out of the car to run to my side of the car and opened the door for me.
I stepped out, "well, thank you, sir," I smiled.
"My lady," he chuckled as he closed the car door and locked the car. Troy wrapped his arm around me and led me towards the restaurant. We got placed and ordered our food, wine and water, like we always had.
"I'm still curious about why I deserve flowers and a date today," I smiled at him as we sat talking.
Troy chuckled, "was the reason you got earlier not enough?"
"Well, it is," I smiled as Troy took my hand over the table, "and I like it, no doubt about that."
"Good," he squeezed my hand, "because I just really wanted to treat my girlfriend after way too many days away from her."
I blushed, "yeah, it was way too many days," I agreed. "I had actually planned that you would get a massage after dinner, but let's see what happens," I smiled at him.
We continued our talk over the food and the wine. Troy told me about the trip and how they had been attending talks and been shown around on different companies. He was excited about it, and I loved everything about his excitement for what he was studying. I told about my days, where not much had happened beside school, watching Chad's handball game and shopping with Shar. As we finished our dinner and wine, we looked out the window, and I smiled.
"It's snowing," I said happily.
Troy chuckled, "well, then we better go for a short walk in the snow, huh?"
I nodded, "but only a short one, because those shoes are not for walks in the snow," I pointed to the heels that I was wearing.
Troy chuckled, "well, it's now official that you have way too many shoes, because you did not notice that some were missing."
"What do you mean?" I asked as Troy led me out the door from the restaurant.
"I have your boots in the trunk, because I knew it would start snowing today, so I thought we'd go for a walk in the snow," he chuckled.
"You are for sure the best," I giggled and hugged him as we walked towards the car.
I got my boots on and we started our walk in the snow. Troy had even made sure to bring one of my scarves and some gloves for me to put on for our walk. And then it hit me… everything about this day. It had been like this before. The flowers, the date, the walk… we had just did almost the same things as we did the day, where Troy had promised me that one day, he would marry me. I smiled up at him as we walked hand in hand.
"I love your childish love for snow," Troy chuckled.
"Snow is so beautiful and peaceful," I smiled and looked towards the sky.
Troy did the same and we both caught snowflakes with our tongues. I smiled brightly at Troy as we stopped in the light from a streetlamp. We were both covered in snow. The snowflakes were lying in our hair and on our coats.
"Isn't it lovely?" I smiled.
