A little over a month had passed. They had moved into Jena and Alex's house. Rose was about four and a half months pregnant, and was really showing. After all, now their baby was the size of a banana. Jack still talked to the baby through the paper towel roll every single night. He would tell the baby what they did that day, if they bought him/her anything, and how the house was coming along (since it was the baby's house as well).

Rose stopped and looked at Jack. "I just realized that we have no idea if we're having a boy or a girl, so which pronouns should we be using?"

"I don't know. We could say 'he/she', or one of us could call the baby 'him' and one of us could say 'her'?"

"But then we'd have to deal with knowing that one of use would always be wrong."

Jack chuckled. "I suppose so. Do you have any feeling towards if it is a girl or boy?"

Rose shrugged her shoulders. "I'm not really sure. It kind of goes in phases. Right now, it feels like a boy." Rose placed a hand against her belly. "Is there one you would prefer over the other?"

Jack shook his head. "As long as our little baby is happy and healthy, it doesn't matter to me. Regardless, they'll be so loved."

Rose smiled. "You're right."

Jack and Rose had finally gone to sleep. Suddenly, something woke Rose up. The baby. It was kicking! "Jack!" said Rose, shaking him vigorously - probably too vigorously considering it was two in the morning.

Finally he opened his eyes, and jumped up. "Rose, is everything alright?"

Rose smiled and a single tear trickled down her cheek. "Everything is fine," she said, laughing while also crying. "Jack, our baby is kicking."

"What?" Jack exclaimed, as he put his hands on Rose's swollen belly. The baby kicked again, and Jack laughed. He looked up at Rose and kissed her. "We have ourselves a little soccer player, don't we?"

Rose giggled. "That we do."

Jack and Rose fell back asleep. Jack had one arm around Rose's waist, and one hand secured on her belly. Rose was leaning back against Jack's warm chest and had her hand on top of his. Finally, they both woke up.

"Good morning darling," said Rose, rolling over and kissing her husband.

"Good morning," Jack kissed her back. They laid like this for a few minutes before Rose went to the bathroom. God, this baby really messed with her bladder! She got to the bathroom and moaned in pain.

"Rose?" Jack called for her, but he got no answer. He jumped out of bed and pressed his ear to the door. "Rose, are you alright?" he called again. Still no reply. "I'm coming in," he said, and he opened the door.

Rose was on the floor screaming in pain. Surrounding her was a small puddle of blood. "It hurts, Jack. Oh god, it hurts!" Jack quickly lifted Rose into his arms and carefully placed her on the bed. He ran downstairs and called for a doctor. He then returned to Rose with Jena.

"Jena, what's happening here?" Jack asked.

"I-I don't know, nothing like this ever happened to me," said Jena. Rose was screaming in pain.

"Shhhh, everything is going to be just fine. The doctor is on his way," said Jack. He didn't believe what he was saying, though. He didn't know that everything would be alright. He was scared out of his mind about both Rose and the baby.

"It's too soon, he's too little!" Rose cried. She was in so much pain. Jack wished there was a way he could help.

Within five minutes, the doctor had arrived and was sent upstairs, to where Jack was holding Rose in his arms. "Please help her!"

Jack waited outside while the doctor did an examination of Rose. He had asked Jena to stay with him, since he was terrified and since Rose would probably want someone who went through this with her. It felt like it was taking forever to get an update from the doctor. God, he was so scared.

Finally the doctor came out of the room. Jack stood up to talk to him, insanely scared of what he was about to say. "Mr. Dawson, your wife and baby are fine."

Jack sighed in relief. He sat back down and started to cry. He had no idea what he would have done if either of them wouldn't have been okay. "Thank you so much, Doctor."

"There's more," said the doctor. "Since your wife lost quite a bit of blood and her condition is precarious, she'll need to be on bed rest until further notice. And no sex. She may continue to bleed a bit, but if she experiences more pain like today, give me a call."

"Can I see her?" Jack asked. He didn't really wait for an answer. He pretty much just barged into the bedroom. Rose was lying in bed. She looked awful. She was ghostly pale, and she was unconscious. Yet somehow, she still looked absolutely gorgeous. Jack climbed into bed right next to her and kissed her forehead.

"Jack," she whispered, still mostly asleep.

"You had me so scared, sweetheart," said Jack, still scarred from the experience.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. It just hurt so badly."

"No need to apologize. I'm just glad you're okay."

They just laid there for a while, Jack's arms around Rose. Rose was asleep, and Jack was just holding onto her tightly as if if he let go, she would disappear.

Finally Rose woke up and looked at Jack. "Hi," she said. "What happened?"

"You were in a lot of pain and you were bleeding. The doctor said you need to be on bedrest until further notice, and you're still drowsy because of the medications you're on."

"Oh," said Rose. "But the baby's okay?"

"Yes, Rosie," said Jack, stroking her cheek. "the baby is fine."

"Good, that's good."

"Is there anything I can get for you, sweetheart?" Jack asked. He still felt so helpless. She was obviously still in pain.

Rose smiled at Jack the same way she always had. The smile that showed Jack that she was still his Rose. "You can talk to the baby. She hasn't stopped kicking since I woke up."

"Oh, so it's a girl now?" Jack asked, smiling.

"Yes, I guess so."

Jack picked up the paper towel roll. "Hi there, baby. Thank you for staying with us. You gave us quite a scare today!"

Rose smiled. She felt so sick, but Jack always could make her feel better. "I still feel so sick. I don't know how people do this all the time. They must just be stronger than I am."

"Hey kiddo," said Jack, still talking to the baby through the paper towel roll. "I just want you to know, your mommy is the strongest woman in the entire world. She's my hero, and I know she's going to be yours too. She may not know it, but she's the most amazing person in the whole wide world." Jack looked up and saw Rose looking at him lovingly. "It's all true, sweetheart."

"Jack," said Rose, smiling and looking away. Jack slid up on the bed and kissed Rose deeply.

"I love you more than anything, Rosie."

"I love you too."

Jack and Rose finally fell asleep, and Rose woke up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat. She felt like she shouldn't wake Jack, but maybe the doctor had told Jack what to do in this scenario. After all, she was shivering uncontrollably. She didn't end up needing to wake Jack, since he woke up on his own. "Rose, what's wrong?"

"I c-can't stop sh-shivering. And yet s-somehow I'm also s-sweating."

Jack looked concerned. "You probably have a fever." He put his hand against Rose's forehead. "You're not warm. Does your stomach hurt like it did yesterday?"

"N-not really."

Jack sighed. "I'm so sorry this is happening to you, Rose. If I could take the pain away, believe me, I would. Hang on." Jack ran downstairs and returned with a hot towel. He put it on Rose's forehead.

"That feels so nice. Thank you." Rose looked like she was feeling a little bit better. "By the way, I know I've been complaining a lot about what's been going on. But it'll all be worth it when we have a healthy baby."

"I know, sweetheart. And I wish we could get there without you going through this."

"Don't worry. I'm okay. I'm just tired. Will you just hold me?"

Jack smiled. "Of course I will."
