A Raven's Guide to Seducing a Blonde

Chapter 17: You Have My Word

Naruto sat at the now much larger table, watching as this man confidently made his way around the kitchen. The anxiety he felt had disappeared in the presence of this person and it made Naruto feel kind of, safe. When his mother spoke of a man who she interested in he'd never really expected him to be so calming, this was quite the opposite of Kushina. Whilst they waited for the hot water to boil the blonde took the time to take a scan around the kitchen and the living room from the distance. Everything looked brand new and it was like walking into a different home. It felt welcoming and had a nice family feel to it.

Minato poured the tea into his cup, smiling as he did. It was contagious as Naruto couldn't help but smile back.

"Your mother never mentioned you were getting out today, otherwise we could have welcomed you home properly" Minato started the conversation as he took a seat opposite, giving the blonde some space. He knew all of what he had been through and more, as Kushina had opened up to him about everything. Minato had a feeling it might take him a while to open up to him, so he was prepared to be as patient as possible. Kushina had told him he can be quite territorial at times but he wasn't getting those vibes at all for now.

"I never told any of the family I was getting out. In fact, it all happened so quickly I didn't really have time to process it myself. I had other business to take care of first".

"Oh? Would you like to talk about it?" he asked carefully.

Naruto smiled at the subtle attempts to gain trust, "I don't think you'd be interested" he continued to smile as he took a sip of tea.

"Well, I am in fact very much interested!" Minato replied excitedly. He studied the younger blonde's expressions carefully. "If you like, you can get to know me first".

"What happened to my father?" Naruto responded bluntly.

"Well, after you went to prison your father tried to move away with your family. Kushina had come to the diner to quit her job. She wouldn't give me an exact reason as to why she was quitting, all she told me is that she had to go away for a while and that she was struggling with you being gone. I tried to convince her to stay and told her I would be here to support her, as a friend if she needed but she refused and left. I followed her home and, well…-" Minato stopped mid-sentence with a saddened expression lingering on his face.

"And what?" Naruto continued, "What happened?"

"Your father was… hurting her. I intervened and ended up in the hospital"

"Oh. I'm so sorry. Were you okay?" he asked concerned.

"Of course I was. I'm made of tough stuff you know, even if I don't look like it" he winked, causing the blonde to chuckle. "I had a slight concussion but it was nothing serious. I decided not to press charges as your father had disappeared after the incident. After that, we've not heard from him since. A few weeks later I asked to move in, purely just to help her out with the kids whilst she worked her other jobs and she agreed to let me help and… well… our relationship developed from there".

"So she is happy?"

"As far as I am aware, yes" he smiled. "Although there has been a huge hole in her heart that I had not been able to fill" he continued.

"I have a lot of making up to do, for a hell of a lot of people. I've made terrible mistakes, hurt many people and caused my mother so much grief. I love her so much, and my brothers and sisters. I'd do anything to protect them. I just hope they can forgive me".

"I'm sure they already have, Naruto"

Naruto smiled. He felt better than he had in a long time. Things seemed as if they were going to be alright. He had come to terms with his sexuality and was happy he was able to start afresh loving relationship with the man he loved as well as healing the relationship with his family.

"I wasn't actually planning on coming here tonight, my boyfriend insisted on bringing me home and I didn't have the words to explain how I hadn't told my family about my release yet".

"Your boyfriend?" Minato responded carefully.

"Uh, um…" Naruto's mind stuttered. It felt so natural to say that but when he thought it over, he hadn't actually come out to anyone in his family except for Nagato. He was the only one who really knew about Sasuke.

"What is his name?"

"It's… Sasuke". He said blushing, looking into his tea. "He's quite… extraordinary".

"I would love to meet him!" Minato replied, smiling. "You know, it'll be great to have you stay here with us. This is still your home"

"About that… actually, I was thinking of staying with my brother for a while, just until I get on my feet. I feel like I need to have my space and keep my independence".

"That's understandable. Do you… um…" Minato didn't want to overstep the mark and insult Naruto by asking too many questions. "If you need any money or anything all you have to do is ask!" he said rather quickly.

"Oh, are you sure?" Naruto responded. "That would be a big help actually".

Minato was surprised at the positive response he got from his gesture. Usually, people are quite insulted and defensive offering them money when they're trying to be independent.

"I don't want you to think I'm taking advantage" Naruto continued. He had no choice but to swallow his pride as he didn't have a lot of options. It was going to be hard enough to gain employment with his record. And with his disorder and mental health conditions, it made it even more complicated.

"You're family. You can ask me for anything, alright? I know we don't know each other yet and I'm not expecting you to call me father or… stepdad or anything of the kind! I just want you to know that I'm here to support you, the same way I support the rest of your family".

"I promise once I find jobs I will pay you back" Naruto bowed his head with thanks.

"Do you have any plans on what you're going to do in that sense?"

"I… have no idea. It's going to be tough with my history, especially since I've just got out of prison" Naruto laughed, embarrassed.

"How would you feel about working at the diner?" Minato suggested.

"The diner?"

"Yeah! I'm not the manager anymore, I actually own the establishment now, so it wouldn't be a problem".

"Are you sure that's a good idea?" Naruto asked feeling hesitant about working at the same place as his mother and her boyfriend.

"I promise not to put you on the same shifts as your mother if that's what you're worried about!" he teased. "Besides, everyone that works there is friends of your mothers, they won't treat you any differently I promise".

"You would really do that for me?"

"Of course, as long as you stay out of trouble we shouldn't have any problems, right?"

Naruto nodded. There was no way he was going to cause any more trouble for his family, friends and his boyfriend anymore. This was a fresh start. "You have my word".

Sasuke spent the rest of the morning sleeping off the night before. It was the first time in months that the raven managed to get a decent night's sleep. For once he felt happy and fulfilled and his life had meaning. Before he met Naruto he never really cared for much, he just wished he could see his brother again. He knew it wasn't his fault for abandoning his family, because Sasuke knew better than anyone how isolating his father could make them feel, and he saw how over worked and how high my father's expectations for him were. For a while, he resented Itachi for leaving him and when his father had forbidden him from even mentioning his name, Sasuke became even more resentful. He hadn't talked about it to anyone before and he felt that in order to move on and feel better about the situation, he should. Going to a therapist was the last thing he wanted to do and the only person he could think of that would make him feel better was Naruto. Even though Sasuke was having a hard time trusting him, he really wanted to. To make this relationship work he had to trust him. Since Naruto had been so open with him he felt that he could also do the same. It would help him deal with his family issues and learn to trust his boyfriend. He hoped this was the start of a happy life for him, and now that he's graduated he had to make the most important decision that he had completely forgotten about. College or Naruto?

To be continued.
