Chapter 18: Rude awakenings

The plan was set. They had the ever elusive vampire hunter who hunts vampires waiting in the wings to deliver a crushing blow to their mutual foe, and yet, Damon thought as he stared down at the raven haired woman who they'd managed to capture from that foe, he still wasn't quite sure what to do with her after all. She looked so peaceful, although that could have been the slight sedative she had been given. Couldn't have her screaming vampire, could he now?

Bonnie and Caroline gazed around the packed entrance hall of the Lockwood home, not recognising some of the people there and yet astounded with how fast a party had been arranged. Caroline frowned as she walked in further. "How did he plan a better party than me so fast?" She said with amazement and Bonnie glanced around while her friend noticed the flashing bright lights outside accompanied by the tell-tale sound of band music. "Wait, is that a band outside?" She gasped out.

A frown marred the witch. "Wait, who are all these people?" She asked and the vampire shook her head as she gazed around at the unfamiliar face. "This is weird." She stated before beginning to push through the crowds of people. "Where is Tyler?!"

Stefan ambled through the crowds, staring at the people before he was approached by Tyler who was carrying a crate. "Hey Stefan," the hybrid greeted, turning to face him. "What's up?"

"Hey Tyler." The decades old vampire greeted back before gazing around. "Nice party you got going here." He commented and the hybrid nodded to himself as he walked in front of him. "Yeah, thanks, but uh, I'm not the one throwing it. I'm just doing what Klaus wants." He pointed out and the vampire frowned slightly. "What do you mean?" He asked back.

Tyler grinned. "It's not a party man, its a wake." He revealed just as the band finished their current track and applause sounded all around them and an all too familiar voice came over the microphone, applause still thundering around them. "Good evening everyone!"

Stefan gazed up at the stage as Klaus grasped the microphone. "I want to thank you all for being here with me to celebrate!" He began loudly, the crowd roaring in response as he did so. He noticed Stefan and smirked before talking once more. "Its been a long time coming."

Matt and Elena, or rather Katherine pretending to be the doppelgänger, walked into the Lockwood mansion. The vampire out of the two looked around and sighed. "So much for homecoming." She stated before looking at Donovan. He frowned slightly. "This is weird," he began and then he finished in a rush. "Us being here together."

The doppelgänger went to answer but then noticed a certain blonde vampire heading towards them. "There's Caroline." She murmured and Matt noticed too. "She doesn't know anything -act normal." She finished in a whisper as the vampire strode over to them both. The vampire glanced around before she spoke. "Hey, Klaus is here." She hissed in a whispered tone of voice.

Matt went a little stiff. "What?!" He hissed back and the blonde vampire nodded. "Yeah, and apparently according to our hybrid friend Tyler, he thought it would be okay to let his master throw a party." She exclaimed, her voice growing louder and louder before she frowned at their awareness. "Well I expected more surprise." She retorted.

Before she could notice anything different, the brunette vampire sighed herself, shuddering on the inside. "I've learned not to be surprised by anything Klaus does." She pointed out before walking off and leaving the two alone. "I'm gonna go find Bonnie."

While the music was thumping around and everyone was enjoying themselves, Stefan was not so much as he walked with the Original Hybrid, moving through the others with ease. "Quite the homecoming." He stated and Klaus smirked. "I've been planning my fathers funeral for a thousand years, granted in no version were any of these people invited but you get the idea." He drawled.

Stefan shrugged slightly. "So now you stop running?" He asked and the Original Hybrid grinned. "Now, I reunite my family." He stated and Stefan raised a brow. "Your family? You mean the people you cart around in caskets? What about her, that woman?" He stated and Klaus paused slightly, eyeing him strangely. "You mean Elle? Well, I would have mended my problems with her, and yet, I ran into a snag on that problem. You see, your brother, if I'm going off one of my hybrids descriptions of the two men attacked him, stole my girl."

The Salvatore frowned and the hybrid chuckled bitterly. "And you didn't know. My compulsion would tell me if you did, and yet you haven't. Been kept out of the loop, mate?" He taunted and clenching his jaw, Stefan looked at him. "He vanished for two days, and I didn't know where he went, alright? And I haven't seen your girl in my house." He retorted angrily.

Klaus hummed lightly under his breath before he noticed the homecoming queen walking past them. "Seems the Homecoming Queen still walks amongst the living which leads me to believe Rebekah isn't here; where is she?" He asked and the other vampire shrugged. "I have no idea." He stated and Klaus hummed under his breath again. "Oh, be honest now Stefan. Where's my sister?"

Scowling ever so slightly, he walked forward, Klaus watching him for a sign he was lying as he repeated that he didn't know where Rebekah was, but soon spirits were lifted as he stated he would take him to his apparently deceased father.

Tyler grinned as he glanced around the still thriving party. "My Mom would seriously freak if she saw these people here." He joked and Klaus grinned widely, looking over his party also. "Your mother won't be a problem; I compelled her to go to church and pray for your friends."

The hybrid gave a short nervous laugh in response. "What do you talking about?" He asked and Klaus smirked slyly. "I want you to look around." He said, Tyler doing just that as his master began pointing out all of his friends, including Caroline, his girlfriend. "Their big dance was ruined tonight, and guess who came through with a party? You did. What a pal."

He then motioned around them. "But who are all these other people?" He asked, feigning confusion as he watched Tyler glance around at all the unfamiliar faces. "I have no idea... I've never seen half these people in my life..." He trailed off slowly, frowning slightly. Klaus grinned in response. "Well that's because I invited a few dozen friends of my own." He stated smugly.

Klaus motioned to a small group of others behind them. "That's my friend Mindy," he stated, the dark skinned hybrid looking at him when she heard her name mentioned. "Picked her up along the way in Kansas." He explained, turning back to his first sired. "Did you know there's an entire bloodline of werewolves in the heartland?"

Tyler didn't have a chance to answer before Klaus continued talking, motioning to more unfamiliar faces. "There's Tony from North Dakota whose still quite bitter about having his neck snapped at the hands of some of your rebelling friends when they stole his charge from him, and well, lets not forget the Seattle contingent." He stated before Tyler spoke. "Wait, are all these people hybrids?" He asked and Klaus nodded. "And they also love a good party, and like you, they wish to serve their master. So, if anyone should do anything so much as make a move against me, they might feel obligated to retaliate."

Later on that night, Klaus had never felt more freer than he had done before, and he felt all of that as he watched his cruel fathers corpse burn under the midnight sky. It was a sight he had long waited for, and yet, he felt as though it should mean more to him than it did. It was a long awaited for sight, yes, but at what cost? What had it cost him in return to truly witness and bask in the longing glory of that long awaited moment?

Elle, a bitter voice mocked in the back of his paranoia infused mind. He gazed about, pleased to find he was alone apart from the hybrids he knew were waiting in the shadows around him. It made his beyond furious that she had been snatched from his grasp once again, and that she was no doubt suffering wherever she had been hidden by the eldest Salvatore. It made him shake with how angered he was, and he almost didn't hear his favourite hybrid approaching. "Are we going to search for her?"

Blue eyes landed on Tony as he stood beside him. Klaus gave a scathing hum. "We are indeed, mate. I want you to start following our doppelgänger blood bag. I have no doubt she got some information from my sister, a fact I'll deal with at a later time. But for now, let us apply the pressure directly to her."
