Authors Note: And here we've finally come to our final chapter. It's been fun, and I can't believe it's been over ten years since I first started working on it and now it's come to an end. Well, I think I've rambled on a little too long. As you know I only own the Oc's I've introduced to the stories while everything else belongs to Capcom. (P.S Can't wait for RE 3 remake can you?) Now that we got that out of the way on to the last chapter of But A Cat Has Nine Lives.
Things were looking up Nicholai thought as he wandered through the bloodstained halls of the factory. He had managed to gather all the information from the other watch dogs and now he was going to be rich, rich and long gone. His only regret was that he wouldn't stick around long enough to see what fate Carlos and Jill would suffer in the city of the dead.
No matter they would die before the government wiped the city off the map. So no skin off his nose if he was unable to witness them die, though as fun as it would be... Running his hand through his hair he couldn't help but smile at that as he headed to the heliport, he was bored with this place. Opening the door he cried out as a lone zombie stumbled out at him, rotting fingers scrambling at his vest as it dropped to the ground before wrapping its hand around his boot. Grimacing Nicholai raised his rifle, and fired. Bile rising in his throat as grey matter splattered onto his boots. Stepping over the body Nicholai continued on.
"Man, I thought we'd never get here." Miles said, looking up the building they had worked so hard to get to. Hope forming in their tired hearts as they headed for the door.
Opening the door Jill and the others recoiled as a wave of rotten flesh smell washed over the group.
"And there goes any hope that this place would be zombie free." Miles muttered, as he eyed the blood splattered walls. Followed by the sight of several dead bodies littered on the floor.
"Are you really so surprised?" Carlos asked, as he stepped in front of the group, tightening his grip on his rifle, seeing no immediate threats he gave them the all clear. Glancing around once more they moved further into a facility, feeling slightly tense as they continued to look around expecting something to jump out at them.
"It can't be this quiet, can it?" Amelia wondered after a long while as they continued on. However before anyone could utter a word-
"Sssssstarsssss..."
Everyone's blood ran cold as they heard the all to familiar sound of Nemesis. Turning around they felt their hearts sink as they saw the tyrant standing before them. His all too familiar black trench coat was long gone, leaving its patchwork chest exposed as well as the pulsing purple tentacles waving around behind its head. Growling it took a step towards them as Amelia uttered a curse under her breath, as the monster drew closer.
"Run!" Jill shouted, raising her gun and firing on the monster, bullets tearing into the monsters chest. Which had no effect, which was no shock to her. Gritting her teeth she raced after her friends, just as the monsters tentacles lodged in the wall were Jill had stood but a few moments before, one of the tentacles brushing past her face as she and the others raced down the hall.
"Sssstarsssss."
"There's a door up ahead." Carlos shouted, looking over his shoulder at them, seeing that Nemesis was still on their tail. Pulling the door open, he watched as the others spilled into the room before he slammed it shut on the rampaging monster.
Locking it. Jumping as the monster slammed into the door, causing it to shudder under the force of the blow.
"We need to get as far away from him as possible." Miles said, backing away from the door as Nemesis continued to slammed against it. A low rumble emitting from the monster, frustrated at its prey had once again alluded it.
"Let's move on." Jill said, gun trained on the door.
Moving on the group continued through the facility.
"So," Miles said after a long while. "There is away out of this city, right? And there is a helicopter here as well, right?"
At Miles words Carlos wondered how Miles had survived this long with all the bitching he did. "Yes there is. Now shut up." He snarled.
Nodding Miles clamped his mouth shut out of fear of facing Carlos' wrath as they moved deeper into the building. Thankfully unlike many places they had wandered through they didn't stumble across any threats aside from Nemesis, the place seemed rather quiet. Upon thinking that Miles suddenly stopped in his tracks, and looked around.
"Something wrong?" Jill asked, when she noticed that Miles was no longer following them.
"Nemesis stopped chasing us." Miles commented.
"Yeah, thank god for that." Carlos piped up.
"But where is he?" Miles asked, moving to rejoin the group.
"How should we know?" Carlos asked, resting his rifle against his shoulder. "As long as it's nowhere near where we are why should we care?"
"Well, the last time we had thought we had gotten away from him he turned our previous way out into a pile of smouldering bits. I can't be the only one who doesn't want to end up the same way." Miles told him.
Silence fell over the group once more. "Could be around this very corn-"
BAM! BAM! BAM! Shots rang out, cutting Miles off as bullets lodged in his shoulder, knocking him to the ground.
Blood spurting from between his fingers as Carlos grabbed him and dragged him behind cover as more shots rang out. Followed by an all too familiar voice. "I see you rats are still scurrying about." Nicholai called out to them.
"Funny," Jill snarled, lip curling. "I was going to say the same about you." Tightening her grip on her gun Jill peered around the corner. Just as more shots rang out. Bullets whizzing past her which Jill gladly returned. Smiling grimly when she heard Nicholai cry out as bullets whizzed past his face.
However before either of them could continue their little game the man in question let out another laugh and gathered the courage to step out from his hiding spot. "As much as I would love nothing more than to continue this amusing little game of cat and mouse I got a ride waiting. So, as sad as I am to go I'm certain we'll meet again. A rat like you can never stay out of Umbrella's affairs." And with that he was gone.
"God," Miles panted, blood staining the front of his shirt. "You should have shot him the moment he came out of hiding."
"Yeah, I kind of regret not doing that," Jill muttered, holstering her gun as she watched as Carlos worked on fixing up Miles.
"He will be a problem in the future." Amelia mused, hand on her chin as she looked down the hall Nicholai had gone down, half expecting the man in question to suddenly pop out and unload another round at them.
But thankfully there was nothing. Seeing that Carlos has managed to fix up Miles they steeled their nerves once more and began to move on once more. Thankfully it didn't take long before the had reached the helipad, their spirits lifting when they saw what would be their way out of the city. Finally.
However, like everything else that happened tonight there was a snag. And that came in the form of a loud crash, as the wall across from them collapsed, and out slithered what had once been Nemesis.
"Oh, uh, hey Jill you're boyfriend is back." Miles commented, disgust written on his features as he eyed the shapeless creature.
"Little does he know I'm not interested him other than him dying." Jill sighed, raising her gun once more, and firing on the monster.
Her bullets tearing into the thing, but it did nothing to slow it down as it continued forward.
"Miles, Amelia get inside the chopper. Jill and I will take care of this monster." Carlos said, moving to stand beside Jill.
Nodding the two wasted no time entering the chopper before Nemesis lashed at Amelia with one of its slender, writhing tentacles wrapping around her ankle, and knocking her off of her feet. Grunting Amelia looked over her shoulder, fear shining in her eyes as she fought to break free.
"Hang in there, I got you." Jill said, turning around she fired on the writhing appendage. Purple blood spraying everywhere as Amelia shook off the severed half and got to her feet, disgust etched on her face as she struggled to her feet.
Purple blood splattered on her leg as Miles guided her to the helicopter. Howling in pain the Nemesis creature turned its attention back to Jill, emitting an earsplitting shriek that had everyone covering their ears as the walls shook all around them, dusting raining down on them from above.
"Not to sounds like a downer, Jill." Carlos spoke, slapping another clip into his rifle. "But I think we need to find another way to take this guy out and quickly."
Jill had to nod in agreement as she looked around, her eyes falling on the plasma cannon sitting off to one side in the corner, making a smile creep to her face, that would work.
"Carlos!" Jill called out, getting his attention, his eyes lighting when he saw what she was looking at.
"Holy shit." He whispered, a smile gracing his face, before shooting a glance at the Nemesis. Just as the creature in question lashed at him with another of its tentacles, catching him his already abused side. Making him cry out as he skidded across the ground.
"Carlos!" Jill called out to him, before drawing the attention of the monster by firing on it. Smiling to herself as Nemesis brought its attention back to her. "Yeah, that's right." She growled, teeth clenched. You know I'm the one you want, so come the fuck on you big, ugly motherfucker." And with that she unloaded another round into the monsters face.
Making the monster scream as blood erupted from what Jill could only guess what was its face. Lashing at her with its many tentacles, knocking her feet out from underneath her. However, before the monster could drag to him Carlos jumped in to rescue her before helping her to her feet.
"You keep ugly distracted," he told her, shooting the monster a look. "While I get this cannon fired up. Shouldn't be too long then it's bye bye Nemesis."
Nodding Jill turned her attention back to Nemesis, and shouted. "Hey, ugly I'm over here, come and get me."
Carlos watched as it turned towards Jill as he raced towards the cannon. Clenching his jaw he fought to fire up the machine, as Jill tried her best to keep the Nemesis distracted.
Crying out as the Nemesis wrapped the tentacle around her wrist, snapping the bone like paper. Thankfully she was able to break free with ease, and fire on the bulbous, plate sized eyeball, purple blood spraying everywhere as it let out another scream. Thankfully that was more than enough time for Carlos to get the cannon working.
"Get clear!" He shouted, watching as brilliant blast of energy burrowed into the writhing mass of flesh. A loud scream echoing all around them, which died quickly as Nemesis stopped writhing and fell silent.
Nemesis was dead at long last. Releasing the breath he had realized he had been holding as he moved to where Jill was.
"Finally..." she sighed, clutching at her broken wrist as she made her way towards the chopper, where the others were waiting with baited breath.
"Is...is it dead?" Amelia asked.
Nodding Jill gave the younger woman a relieved smile as she plopped down next to her, and let her head fall back. As Carlos took a seat at the controls, and fired up the engine, a very toothy smile on his tanned face as the helicopter lifted off the ground.
Taking to the sky they all felt their spirits rise as they looked out the window to the lightening sky, however the smiles they wore faded when they saw the missile streaking through the sky towards the city.
"And just like that," Miles murmured, eyes narrowed. "Umbrella is destroying everything that could implicate them in this nightmare."
"Don't worry." Jill said, turning to look at him. "I can assure you Umbrella is going down. One way or another."
And with that the four of them soared off into the sky towards a new day...
Authors Note: And finally after more than ten years this story has come to an end. It had been one hell of a ride but it's over. I hope you enjoyed it, and at some point in the near future I will get the third installment of this trilogy someday. But I need to head to be so this is Black Jack signing off.
