Rogue's head shoots up from his UNO game with R.O.W. "Wait what?"
"I mean we came to a conclusion that we are going to finish Preserver's OP, so that means we will be working on it until we are done so yeah!"
Now then guest review

Now the story
"Think you are my match!" - Unnamed Space Marine Captain
"On what grounds are you declaring a duel?" Wolfgang asked getting up from his sitting position. "I do not know you so for what reason do you to have declared such a duel?"
Normally duels or trials by combat were only done when an argument could not be settled by normal means, tarnishing one's honor and what not. As Wolfgang had not meet this knight pilot, he had no disagreement with this pilot, unless.
"I am the one you are to wed so that our families would stop fighting!" Norla Steiner declared. "But I refuse to marry a Rose, I shall defeat you in a duel proving your weakness and stopping this ridiculous plot ploy by my father!"
"Do not think me so easily defeated in combat just because my knight banner does not bear any campaign ribbons." Wolfgang countered his eyes narrowing from the insult. Judging from the age of the knight pilot Wolfgang guess that the knight ribbons applied more to the knight itself rather then to the pilot. Meaning Wolfgang was going to be dealing with a veteran battle AI.
But again, even if Lord Steiner was ordering the knight's AI to take on his daughter as a pilot, he doubted that she was a rookie pilot herself. Even if Norla did not fight any real battles fighting in the simulator was still very close to the real thing. There was also the fact that this knight was more than likely a Gen.10 knight or even higher if it was being upgraded.
Then there were the weapons. An SRM missile launcher for the knight's upper weapon, a heavy stubber for a light weapon. Then there were the two weapons that made Wolfgang hesitant to fight this knight. The first being the thunderclap gauntlet, similar to his own minus the three claws, the executer warblade because why not give a titan a power sword. If he wasn't careful that thing could cut his knight in half.
"If you two are to fight then I guess we can make use of the area here." A new voice spoke.
The people present looked down to see the Headmaster of Preserver Academy himself standing in-between the two knights.
Headmaster Durzo was a tall man standing at six foot seven. He had a full well-kept full beard; his blond hair was combed to one side except for a few strands of hair that fell forward. His eyes were a sharp silver that told of his true age, dispute what his body told. He wore a type of black cloak that only opened at his mid torso and down. Underneath that he wore a black robe with a dark brown leather tool belt where he kept his smaller weapons.
Even when standing in-between two knight titans he was still a scary sight to behold as he could bring down both Titans without moving himself. Even if Wolfgang and the two marines with him joined in the fight, the only thing they would manage to do was get the man to move.
He turned to face the Steiner knight. "Ms. Norla Steiner I would ask that you leave the premises until noon as the dual will begin then."
Norla only managed a nod before entering her knight's cockpit, the knight began to leave moments after. Once the Steiner knight had left the area Wolfgang got down from his knight and saluted the Headmaster.
"Sir, Grade 4 Preserver Wolfgang Rose reporting Sir!" Wolfgang reported every bit of his normal mood gone from his voice.
"At ease." The Headmaster responded turning to Wolfgang. The preserver in question going into a parade rest as soon as the Headmaster finished. "I see you are growing your crew, two joining in one run that is impressive. The jobs you will be able to take on will increase now that you have a crew to support you."
Wolfgang nod. With a crew there was so much more he could do. Now he had people he could call to help him and not have to wait for a battle barge to come to his rescue while he waited for help. He hated feeling useless.
The headmaster turned and motioned for Wolfgang to follow him. He also motioned for Rosa to dock with the Academy's mech bay. Hesitantly she followed the Headmaster's orders when Wolfgang nodded to her. She started talking the two marines on her upper hull with her.
"I also read a report about you being targeted by one of the Chaos gods." The Headmaster said after the two were alone in there walk. "And that you were bonded to an eldar female."
Wolfgang nodded. "Yes Sir, however I believe that the Chaos god's obsession with me was just a fit of lust and will pass with time."
"Be careful when trying to understand the thoughts of a Chaos god Wolfgang. They're are not something to be understood fully. This is not the first time one of the Chaos gods has shown an interest in claiming one of our people as a servant. Tzeentch has always been a first when it came to converting our preservers to his side but Slaanesh is a close second. It is my experience that Chaos gods tend to be difficult when it comes to losing them."
"No, I fear that Slaanesh will try again as soon as it is given an opportunity." The Headmaster paused in his walk to look at Wolfgang. "When the time comes, you must be ready to resist it, even if it means to take your own life."
"Reach must be protected." Wolfgang closely followed but he was soon hit with a feeling of denial. The Headmaster noticed this.
"Even now in Reach's warp shadow her bond with you can reach you while growing ever stronger." The Headmaster observed. "You must learn to resist her if you are to continue as a preserver, being a powerful psyker and you having little to no psychic aptitude means that she will have a strong influence over you."
"I will begin being taking classes to increase my willpower to resist her influence." Wolfgang declared while trying to block the connection but it was no use.
As soon as he said those words pain started to come over him. Seeing this the Headmaster but a hand on Wolfgang stopping the pain and blocking the connection in an instant. He did not need to know what was about to happen next.
"Her power grows and is starting to become too much for her to control. I will speak to the Soulseer Headmaster to begin her training."
"Soulseer training? Is she really that powerful?" Wolfgang asked there was little chance she had what it took to become a soulseer. He did not know that it took to become one, but he knew that is was no simple matter.
"Even if she isn't, she must become loyal to Reach and its people. We cannot have rogue elements working against us, now of all times." The headmaster said walking again but keeping a hand on Wolfgang's shoulder.
"What has happened Master?" Wolfgang asked none the wiser as to what was happening on the other end of his connection.
"The Eldar Craftworlders have become more active as of late. Preservers tell me they are looking for something, and if my suspicions are true, they are looking for Reach. They believe our world to be the prefect maiden world for them. With its size and ability to hide us from the Warp I believe they will do anything to get it."
"What are we to do then?"
"I have ordered a few Grade 1s to throw them off, even kill a few key people who are leading the search. I have also told others to begin contacting our allies in the event that they do find the location of Reach."
"That is all well and good Sir but where do I fit in?"
"You? You are not going back into the galaxy for some time. Lanasya must be turned to our cause and trained to control her powers and you must train with your new crew members."
"Lanasya?" Wolfgang asked not knowing the name.
"The name of the Eldar you are bonded to. She does not know it, but that bond is a two-way street and she doesn't know how to protect it from outsiders. Now enough of this talk you have a duel to prepare for and a brother to yell at." The Headmaster said taking his hand off Wolfgang.
Wolfgang stopped as the Headmaster said those words. A brother to yell at? It was then that it hit him.
Lanasya had been in her room ever since she lost control over herself. After she learned that her human was to be married off to some other human, she went to him to remind the human who he belonged to. She didn't want to, but the bonds pull was becoming too strong for her to resist. Now she felt hatred for the human who was to marry him, it was only by sheer force of will that she managed to stop herself from sending and any feeling to her bondmate.
When the man called Derzo arrived to break the two humans up she immediately felt the power coming from him. If his powers was mesmerised by the amount of light he gave of then he would be a small star while she was more of a campfire. She felt herself become worried when he began to explore her bondmate's mind without him even realising it. She tried to force him out but he easily drove her back into her own mind.
As the Headmaster began to talk about the dark gods and the prospect of her bondmate taking his own life enraged her causing her bondmate pain. She was about to stop when the connection was blocked by the Headmaster. She tried to reestablish the connection but she was no match for the Headmaster's power.
Preparing to throw herself against the steel wall that the headmaster had set up to get to her bond mate she was assaulted by the feeling of utmost dread. She could feel the life and connection she had to the warp vanish as her skin started to contract as goosebumps formed.
She had heard rumors of monsters from some of the soldiers in her Craftworld about Abominations that the Imperium had. Beings that were unnatural to the Warp that were destroyed because they were a threat to the Golden Throne. Creatures that could not be seen not because of any tech they had but because of their mere presence would make you deny their existence.
She never knew what it was like to not have a connection to the warp but now she did. It was cold, if the Headmaster was a star than this was a Blackhole empty of life and consuming all who dared to get near it. Looking around the room She tried to find the source as she backed up to a wall of the room. She could feel parts of her soul being tugged at and prodded.
She did not know of some creatures of the Warp that would play with their prey and her thoughts went straight to a servant of She Who Thirst but they would have a sickly pleasant feeling to them… This was different. At least She Who Thirst servants would have some feeling of normalcy, this was not.
She tried to send a signal to her bondmate that she was in trouble but the mental wall blocking her from him was still there and she did not have the power to knock it down. But being desperate as she was she still tried to muster what power should could to knock it down.
However, when she tired to send the message the black hole opened up to suck her power into itself changing it making it more unnatural. For a split second she saw it, moving in the room with her. A dark shadow of pure emptiness. Her eyes would refuse to let her see what she wanted to see, her body rejected the feeling of the presence standing right infront of her. Her eyes stared back into the single socket of pure black surrounded by a bone white skull.
The black eye showed no emotion, nothing to give way to its thoughts and ideas. She felt small like a mouse before a snake cornered and nowhere to go. If she was supposed to be an Apex creature, this was her predator this… thing was to keep her numbers in check to keep her balanced. And it was an Abomination.
Slowly it lifted up its void where its hand should be as clawed fingers came into being. Bone like Gauntlets covered its arms as it reached forward to touch her. As a single finger touched her skin, she felt pain that she had never felt before. It was as if she was being devoured by She Who Thirst as she could feel parts of her soul being ripped and cut at. However, as soon as it came the pain had gone. It was as if the creature was told by an unknown entity to stop, like a dog being pulled away from its prey by its master. In an instant it was squatting on top of a table ready to jump at her at any moment.
The black hole feeling also began to fade, the room returning some semblance as it was before. However there was still a lingering feeling of the black hole in the room, not strong enough to harm her but enough to let her know it was still there.
With the black hole weaker Lanasya was able to make out the thing that attacked her. Its crouching form was looking at her. Its right eye was black and void of any form of emotion that would give way to its action. Its left eye had a large apparatus on it that curved back around its head. The left eye also hummed slightly as red fog-like energy slowly leaked out of it. It had a bone-like exoskeleton going down its body as parts where black and white looking that the outside of a human skeleton. Its chest was obviously male and had more solid pieces as well as having what appeared to be some form of tech. Its left arm was armored and clawed and it also appeared to have some form of grappling hook like Lanasya's bond mate.
Bone-like spines jutted out of its back as it crouched forward looking at The Eldar before it. Its bottom jaw of the skull-like mask opened and closed slowly and rhythmically as it breathed in and out. It had no weapons besides it's clawed hands and armored feet. Not that it would need any after tasting its power.
"I would advise sitting down." A voice said almost like it was whispered right next to her ear yet the speaker was obviously the very creature that we right in front of her. "We should not be alone for long and he would most likely like it if you were comfortable Prey." It's black soulless eye flashing for a second, a hint of red like it was just sent something.
She looked at it and slowly made her way to a chair that was across from where it was sitting.
"We would not want to make this unpleasant now would we?" Even though it said that Lanasya could feel a sense of foreboding as if the thing before her was begging her to do something. It was hoping that she would try to run try to fight it, it wanted nothing more then to kill her. As soon as she sat down she heard a sigh of disappointment from the creature as the door to the Room opened.
In stepped the same man she had visions of. Wolfgang's brother Albern Rose Grade 1 preserver. He wore his combat uniform a duster with cloth clothing underneath it, not something one would normally find under a combat uniform. The legendary Preserver walked over to the eldar stopping in front of her.
"So," He began his voice hard and steady. "You are the one to compromise my little brother."
Albern looked over her, looking at her arms and legs judging there muscle mass then to her torso and face. She was soft, too soft.
"I will make this clear from the get go." Albern said getting closer to Lanasya. "I love my brother very dearly, there is no distance I would not go nor enemy I would not kill to see him safe." He was now in her face. "If you ever put him in any unnecessary harm I will find you and I will kill you. Rest assured that the bond you have with him will not stop me."
The Preserver backed up and in a millisecond had a black revolver, every similar to Wolfgang's white revolver, was now pointed at her head. The creature on the table lurched forward as if chopping at the opportunity to kill her.
"Deliverance might have spared you for Wolfgang's sake but Damnation will not be so caring."
The man holstered his weapon then began to leave, the sound of his boots echoing in the dead silent room. The creature let out what could only be described as a chuckle before jumping off the table and following after its handler, but not before it carved a human skull into the door frame with his clawed hand.
Lanasya found herself unable to move, fear had warped her mind in a state of non-functionality. For the first time since she had this bond, she did not resist the pull to her bondmate, she wanted him beside her, holding her, comforting her.
The mental wall the headmaster placed began to fall allowing her feelings to reach her bondmate. She called to him, pleading for his presence. He answered her.
Wolfgang was sprinting through the streets of Frodon trying to get back home as fast as he could. Lanasya was in danger was all he knew, he had to get to her before it was too late. In truth he did not know what was attacking her, but he knew that it was very dangerous.
It only took the preserver around fifteen minutes to get from the Preserver Academy grounds to the House Rose front gate. As soon as he was in short range, he began yelling at the guards to open the gates. They did as they were told and the grates began to open, however the gate opened rather slowly, and Wolfgang was not slowing down of a second. He ended up diving sideways into the narrow opening just to keep going.
From there it was a matter of running through the keep to the guest rooms. He did not know which room Lanasya was in, however the bond gave him a very good idea which door to check. He found the room the bond led him to. He quickly opened the door and stepped in looking around for any sign of danger. Finding none Wolfgang began to look for Lanasya, it did not take him long as he found her sitting on the bed with her knees tucked in and her arms warped around them.
"What happened?" Wolfgang asked urgently quickly walking over to her.
She did not make any moment.
Was something wrong with her? Why wasn't she responding to him? She was calling for help and now he was here.
'Just hold her you idiot.' An unknown female voice ordered him.
Not having anything else to go on Wolfgang sat down beside her and warped one arm around her. As soon as Wolfgang did this Lanasya started to lean on him. Wolfgang did not know how long there were like that. Thirty minutes, an hour, two hours he did not know for sure. They just sat there taking comfort in each other's presence.
To think that not a few weeks ago Wolfgang had a gun pointed at her head, ready to end her life. Perhaps that was why Deliverance miss fired, somehow it knew that killing her would hurt Wolfgang in some way. Even so Wolfgang was still not sure about Lanasya's true allegiance, and until he did, he could not trust her.
'Then stop treating her like an outsider.' One of his inner voices said. 'Show her that Reach can become her home, that there is something more for her here than on any craftworld. Show her that she is safe here with you.'
Wolfgang looked down at Lanasya. She didn't know that he had a very bad habit of thinking out loud. Even then, he knew that was not his inner voice talking to him she was good at hiding it, but he knew it was her voice talking to him.
"As you are reluctant to tell me what I happen I can't really reassure you." Wolfgang started. "However, I can say I will do my best to stop it from happening again. The Headmaster has confirmed to me that you're an emerging psyker so you will need to be trained." Wolfgang paused for a moment to let his works sink in. "He believes you strong enough to take the Soulseer trials, and as the trials themselves are only known to the people to take them I can't give you any advice for them."
The red haired eldar did not make a move. Nothing to show Wolfgang any indication of her state of mind. She just sat beside him leaning into him.
Wolfgang looked away. "I have a duel to prepare for." He began to stand up.
He was stopped when Lanasya gently touched his hand that was still on her shoulder.
"Please, stay with me for a little longer." She whispered.
Wolfgang looked back at her, he waited for a moment before replying. "As you wish."
He sat back down and held the eldar close. They stayed like that for another hour, Lanasya was the one to lean way giving him the silent ok to leave. So, the preserver stood and began to make his way to the door. However, her voice stopped his just as he was about to leave the room.
"Win." She said, it was an order clear as day.
"By your command." Wolfgang said before leaving the room. There would be time to yell at his brother later, right now he had a duel to win.
When Wolfgang made it back to Preserver Academy's knight bay, he found Rosa going over final checks for the coming duel. Shawn had evidently took Omael on a tour of the Academy and surrounding area. Mostly likely to let Wolfgang and Rosa prepare in peace. The Preserver did notice that his AI partner was in the process of swapping out her heavy weapon. A particle projection cannon, or PPC, if he wasn't mistaken good for scrambling enemy sensors on a hit. However,-
"PPCs are more of a sniper's weapon Rosa." Wolfgang commented climbing up to the maintenance rails.
"I know but I have a feeling you are not going to fight the Stiner in melee combat." Rosa returned from her holoprojector. "Unless you want me to get cut up in the first few seconds of our little duel."
"Of course not but we will have to fight her in melee combat whether we like it or not."
"That's why this is not a normal PPC." Rosa said the smirk audible in her voice. "It's a IP PPC."
Wolfgang's eyes widened, IP meaning Ion Piercing. A very new weapon system that was being made in House Rose's laboratories and was still in prototype stages. Meaning Rosa shouldn't have access to it.
"Rosa." Wolfgang said dangerously.
"I didn't steal it!" Rosa called back knowing what Wolfgang was insinuating. "We were hired by Kaymia to test out the weapon." She turned to look at him. "Oh don't give me that look."
Said look was the "I don't believe you look" plastered all over his face. "Or you begged Kaymia to let you test out the weapon, then proceeded to have it masked as a "Job". And let me guess Kaymia asked for all the information on Lanasya-"
"Ah so that's her name."
"So she could make judgments of her own." Wolfgang finished.
Rosa looked off to the side to avoid her partner's gaze. Wolfgang sighed before walking over to his knight and jumping up onto the upper hull then made his way to the cockpit. Once inside he shut the hatch and waited for the lights to come on. Having his head rest against the rest he soon felt the knight's neural interface system link with his neural interface.
He felt his body began to extend to the rest of his knight. He felt Rosa making the connection seamless, her devotion to him. He opened and closed his Adamantium fist, felt the electricity flow throughout his body, the newness of his heavy armaments, the missile rack that sat on top of his body. He felt the power he now possessed it was intoxicating.
For this moment Wolfgang, Rosa, and the Knight were one.
When he opened his eyes to see the world had become smaller. His HUD began to take shape, in the lower right side of his vision was his knights armor status shown by image of his knight with the different hardpoints speared by a thin line. All the parts of the knight were green meaning no damage. In the upper right side of his vision was a bracket that listed his weapons, their status, ammo count, readiness, etc.
In the lower left side of his vision were a set of boxes, it was empty now but when he had a target one box would tell him the targets distance from him, its weapon status, its armor status, and its look. His upper left side of his vision was empty but when he was in a lance his lance mates' names, overall armor status, and knight class would show up there.
In the center of his vision was targeting reticle that followed his weapons movement. In his bottom center area of his vision was his radar with him being at the center. There was a line going around the radar like a clock showing him an outline of the area around him.
With nothing appearing to be wrong with his HUD he spoke to Rosa.
'Show me the stats.' Wolfgang said through the interface.
Before his eyes the IR PPC's stats began to appear. The heat it generated from firing it, its effective range, estimated damaged at different ranges, and recharging time. From what the states told him be could hit a target 7840 feet (2389 meters) away with pinpoint accuracy. A sniper's wet dream… well a sniper in a huge knight that is.
He wouldn't need the range for this duel but knowing this weapon could reach anywhere he pointed it at was good to know. The down side to this weapon was that it generated a lot of heat, he could tell from the specs alone that this weapon was meant for one of the newer generations of Freedom Knights. As it stood, he might be able to get out ten shots per minute, more if he didn't mind going into emergency shutdown. With a recharge time of four seconds it was going to be tempting not to shoot this thing like an ork.
'Wolfgang, its time.' Rosa said bringing Wolfgang out of his inspection.
'Right let's get this done.' Wolfgang replied starting out of the hanger.
And we are done here! Next time is the duel won't that be fun!?
Well guys I will see you next time and remember I will be working on this story till its done so yeah!
