Amelia took the kids to the beach so that Addison and Meredith could have the room to discuss Henry and the situation with Marquis and his family. They had already decided not to press charges. Henry was unharmed and safe. That was all that really mattered. The one thing that Addison and Meredith knew that they wanted Henry to have a relationship with his birth father and birth family, but they didn't know how to make it work. Suddenly Addison had a thought.
"I know that face. What are you thinking, Addie?"
"You know we could always..." Addison started to suggested
Meredith furrowed her eyebrows, "You're not seriously suggesting that we move here to Mexico?!"
Addison nodded, "That's exactly what I'm suggesting. Henry can't have a relationship with his birth father from Seattle. Judi's not in his life anymore. And none of the other kids have any biological family that they are in contact with."
"Moving is huge, Addison. It can't just be talked about at the drop of a hat, like asking me to pass the salt." Meredith added, "Plus we don't even know Marquis. How do we knew that we want him around our son. I know Henry loves him, but Henry's five years old."
"I understand what you're saying, Mer. Let's go talk to him."
Meredith sighed, "Alright."
Meanwhile at the beach with Amelia and the kids. Most of the kids were running ahead of her, laughing, collecting shells, and playing in the water. 'Oh to be young and carefree.' Amelia thought. However, then there was Henry. He was right by his aunt's side holding her hand. He had wanted to stay with his mommies, but he also missed his Papí.
"Auntie Amy, what do you think Mommy and Mama are talking about?" Henry asked
Amelia looked down at the little boy and smiled, "It's nothing for you to worry about."
"Will I see my Papí for my birthday?" Henry wondered, "I turn six in three months."
"I don't know, kid." Amelia replied, "Go play with your siblings."
Henry nodded as he let go of his aunt's hand and then took of running to catch up with Benaiah.
Amelia watched as Henry fitted his hand into his big brother's. She smiled. Amelia loved the bond that all of her nieces and nephews had, but her favorite was the bond between Benaiah and Henry. They had an instant bond from the moment that they meant. It was so sweet.
You'd think that with how close in age Zola is to Henry that they'd be the closest, but that was far from true. Of course, they love each other and sure they got along most times, but sometimes they saw the other as their rival. I guess that's the price you pay with Irish twins. Zola was only nine months old when Henry was born and adopted.
At the police station with Marquis in the holding cell. He'd spent the night in jail. It wasn't the first time, but the first time he was only sixteen. It was a stupid teenage mistake that he never made again. He was thinking about his son when he noticed Meredith and Addison walk in. He didn't know what they were there for, but he was sure that it was to press charges against him. He watched them walk over to one of the officers. Addison said something to the officer and then he saw them approaching him.
Marquis knew that if they were there to press charges against him or tell him that he can't see Henry ever again, then there was nothing he could do to change their minds. He had done a terrible thing. He just needed them to understand why and that he was sorry so he spoke before they could say anything.
"Look, I'm sorry. I know what I did was wrong and there is no excuse for my actions. I just wanted to be a father to my son." Marquis stated, "Judi gave him up without ever telling me of his existence and she knew...when we were together I told her that if she got pregnant I would stand by her and our kid." He took a breath, "Henry's a great kid. You did a good job with him, so thank you. And I understand if you don't want to see me again.
"It's actually the opposite. We want Henry to have a relationship with you." Meredith admitted reluctantly
Marquis looked back and forth at the two women, "Really?"
Addison nodded, "None of our other kids have a relationship with their birth parents, which is actually best for them, but we've seen how it affects them. It's caused a lot of self-worth issues as they've gotten older. We don't want that for Henry. He hasn't suffered from your love. He loves you, so whatever you did to show him that you love him it work. He actually asked about you this morning. He misses you."
Marquis smiles, "I miss him too. How is he?"
"He's good. He's with his aunt." Meredith replied, "We..." She takes Addison's hand, "My wife and I want to work out and open adoption arrangement with you."
"I'd like that." Marquis added, "What's the first step?"
Addison smiled, "Moving. Meredith and I are going to move out family to Mexico, so Henry can be closer to you and your family. Not to mention it will be good for the other kids to experience a different culture."
Marquis was shocked, "You'd do that for me?"
"Of course." Meredith told him, "Doctors are needed everywhere. Henry only has one father. You made a mistake. You're only human."
"Thank you for giving me a second chance."
Meredith gave an nod, "Of course. Everyone deserves one."
