The Incident
Alright, just have to check on the Miyamoto kid and then I can clock out.
Tadashi stretched his arms over his head, looking forward to going home.
He had been working diligently all day, making sure his patients were comfortable, handling one surgery in particular.
Now, he just had one last patient to check in with. Not that he minded, the boy was a sweet little thing. Never tried to give him trouble.
Plus, he adores Baymax.
He glanced around him. Things certainly had changed since he was an intern. Thanks to Hiro's robotics company, every ward had their own handful of Baymax's to assist the doctors and nurses with their tasks or comfort their patients.
Tadashi's in particular always working right beside him.
"Alright, ready?"
"Yes, Tadashi."
They came upon a room, knocking on the door.
"Come in." A small voice answered.
Tadashi opened the door as he and Baymax entered, looking to the playmat set up in the room. A little boy with messy black hair and tan skin was sitting there, playing with the toys in the room.
"Hey there, kiddo." Tadashi smiled warmly, kneeling to his level. "What'cha got there?"
"Legos!" The boy giggled, holding up what he was building. "It's an EVP recorder!"
"An ev-what now?" Tadashi asked, giving him a curious look.
He didn't mind listening to his patients interests. The kids on the pediatric ward especially always had something going on.
"Electronic voice phenomenon. It's the frequency ghosts talk on!"
"Ghosts? Wow, that's neat. Bet you learned that from your dad." Tadashi got up, gesturing to the child's bed. "Wanna tell me all about that while we do your check up, Ken?"
Ken hesitated before he looked to Baymax, eyes lighting up.
"Okay!"
Tadashi chuckled, helping him up, before looking to Baymax.
"Scan for any signs of ulcers. I'll check his vitals."
"I'm okay." Ken murmured. "I don't have tummy aches anymore."
Tadashi smiled reassuringly.
"And that's great. But we still gotta do the checkup. But..." He grinned. "If you're not showing any more signs of being sick, you can go home tomorrow."
"Really?"
"Really. You've been a champ."
Ken had been admitted for ulcers in his stomach and while the surgery was simple to do, Tadashi was glad the boy was comfortable enough to walk around his room or even going down to the play room with his mother or father while they visited.
Tadashi fell quiet, looking Ken over, glancing over to Baymax while he was scanning the boy.
"Scan complete. No signs of ulcers have returned. Only healing tissue."
Ken gave a hopeful look.
"See? And his vital signs are normal. One last thing." Tadashi chuckled.
Baymax reached over, poking Ken on the side of his forehead while the child tried not to giggle.
"Hey!"
"Temperature is 97 degrees. Normal." He leaned back, patting the child's head. "You have been a very good boy."
"Hee?"
Baymax produced a lollipop, offering it as Ken squealed.
"Thank you! And thanks Dr. Hamada!"
Tadashi chuckled, patting his head.
"Anytime. Where are your folks?"
"Daddy had a job and I said I would be a big boy and stay here. Cause Baymax can stay, right?" Ken's lip quivered a little. "Right?"
"Of course. Baymax?"
The robot nodded.
"I will stay assigned to monitor and comfort: Ken Miyamoto, until his family returns."
"Great." Tadashi checked the time. "Besides, it's bed time."
"Whaaat?!" Ken pouted. "B-But…"
"Ah, ah. Lights out on the ward kiddo." Tadashi gently laid him down, tucking him in. "And tomorrow, if your vital check stays normal…"
"Home?"
"Home."
Ken quickly curled up under his covers, trying to sleep already.
Tadashi chuckled, heading out after making sure he was comfortable.
Such a good kid…
Alright… Time to go home.
oooooo
"Daddy's home!"
"WHOA!"
Tadashi laughed as he got tackled in the doorway by two very excited little girls. He fell to the floor, hugging his daughters close.
This… was definitely his favorite part of his days.
"What are you two doin up?"
"Mommy's not feeling good…" His eldest, Akemi, said, pouting.
"Yeah! She said her stomach was buggin her and she wouldn't say what happened… and she won't let us activate our Baymax. "
"What?" Tadashi frowned. "I'll see what's up. Stella? Can you get a sprite from the fridge?"
"Yes, Daddy!"
"Akemi, go activate Baymax for me."
"Okay!"
His girls hurried off to do as he asked while he headed to his and Honey Lemon's room. He peered in, noting his wife was curled up on her side of the bed, her hair concealing her face.
"Akio?" He whispered, going to her side, stroking her head. "Can you hear me?"
"Mn…. Tada…?" Her eyes opened as she shifted to look at him. "When'd you get home?"
"Just a few minutes ago. The girls said you were being stubborn."
Honey Lemon moved her hair aside, sitting up.
"I didn't want to be a burden…"
"A bur-Akio, no that's never it." He sat on the edge of the bed. "I told the girls to get Baymax and you're getting scanned… Okay?"
"Okay…"
In no time, Tadashi and Honey Lemon were sitting together while their home Baymax scanned the woman. After a moment, he held up his finger.
"Honey Lemon, is…" He seemed to perk up. "Pregnant!"
The couple were silent, giving each other a stunned look.
"When was the last time we…?"
"Erm… Remember when you had that code green?"
Tadashi's face heated up, hugging his wife tighter. She laughed nervously, kissing his head.
"Hey, it's okay. We have plenty of room for another baby." She smiled, cupping his cheek. "And maybe it'll be a boy this time."
"I'd like that… Are you sure your not upset?"
"No, never!"
"Phew…"
oooooo
A few days later, the families had gotten together for a small lunch, while the kids played.
Tadashi and Hiro were outside with the children, while they tried to figure out the new grill Hiro had brought over for them.
"So, Honey's pregnant too?"
"... What do you mean too?"
Hiro grinned.
"Kat's pregnant too."
Tadashi was stunned before he chuckled, ruffling his brother's hair.
"Hey, that's great! Our kids will be the same age then!"
"Right?"
It was still crazy to think they were parents, let alone that Tadashi was even there to witness his brother having his own family… and Tadashi having his daughters.
Ah… what could possibly go wrong?
"TADASHI HAMADA!"
"HIRO HAMADA!"
The men froze up, looking towards the house. Leaning outside of the screen door to the backyard were Kathleen and Honey Lemon, the women had looks of utter rage in their eyes.
"... What did you do?" They turned to one another with an accusing look.
The kids were looking at their parents in confusion.
"Daddy?" Akemi asked. "Is Mommy okay?"
"W-Ee're gonna discuss this inside."
"Baymax, story mode!" Hiro called over his shoulder as they hurried inside.
Tadashi said nothing, giving Honey Lemon a concerned look as she stormed back to the living room… the man ducking as a flip flop flew over his head.
"ACK!"
"YOU! YOU TWO PLANNED THIS!" Kathleen yelled. "How could you!?"
"W-What?"
"Honey is pregnant and so am I. And lo and behold, Baymax got it right for both of us - same gestation time." Kathleen, crossed her arms.
"Oh gosh…" Hiro swallowed hard. He moved to put an arm around her. "Kitty Kat, I didn't do it on purpose, it's a big coincidence."
"Liar." She mumbled, moving away from him.
"Tadashi, I can't believe you. You're the mature one!"
"HEY! I didn't know… how, WHY?" Tadashi gulped. "Really, Love, it was an accident."
Honey Lemon glared, grabbing her other flip flop.
"Out."
"Huh?"
He bolted for the backyard again as another shoe flew over his head.
"I SAID OUT!"
"YOU TOO HIRO!"
The brothers hurried out, panting as the door was slammed behind them. They exchanged a look of utter confusion.
"Dude, I never planned anything."
"Neither did I…" Tadashi ran a hand down his face. "Guuuuh…"
"We're dead." Hiro remarked. "So dead. We're couched, man."
"Unless…" Tadashi hummed in thought.
Hiro gave him a desperate look.
"Unless what? Speak up, man!"
Tadashi pulled out his phone typing in some coordinates.
"You bring the armor?"
"Of course-... No."
"You wanna sleep on the couch tonight?"
Hiro grumbled a little before going to get suited up.
"What place?"
"What other place? We're having Aunt Cass give us some help. Triple chocolate cheesecakes with decaf coffee whipped cream and while you're out, I put in a to pick up order for a massive family sized order of food. Cause we ain't getting the grill hooked up like this."
Hiro saluted, hurrying off.
Tadashi took a deep breath before dialing another number.
"Yello?"
"Fred? Remember, how I set Jordan's arm last week and you said you owed me one?"
"Yeeeaaah?"
"How do you feel about helping Hiro with a food run to appease two angry wives?"
"I'm on my way."
oooooo
"Maybe we were too harsh?" Kathleen asked, hugging a pillow to her chest. "I mean… I'm excited, I really am…"
"Those two idiots though…" Honey Lemon mumbled. "If they planned this, they're dead."
"I dunno… the more I think about it, the more I think we maybe overreacted."
"Hm… Until dinner. They get to stew until dinner."
"Sounds good…" Kathleen's stomach growled as she buried her face into the pillow. "Hopefully that's soon?"
Honey Lemon fell quiet, sniffing the air…
Something smelled good.
"Wait… you smell that?"
"Yeah…"
They exchanged a look, getting up and heading to the dining room. Their eyes grew wide, at what they saw.
The dining table was covered in food, from crispy fried chicken to sizzling steaks, to even hearty bowls of udon. Everything they both loved spread out… including on the back table, where Honey Lemon usually put extra sides during holidays, was covered in a spread of desserts.
"... They did all this?"
"I didn't even…" Kathleen peered into the kitchen. I it was spotless. "How did they?"
She glanced out to the backyard as Hiro landed, disengaging his rocket boots, a bag from another restaurant in his hands. He spotted her, giving a wave. Tadashi soon came around the corner, a large box in his hands.
"... Honey Lemon? I think they earned our forgiveness."
"I think so."
The men soon came inside, gently brushing past them to set down the last of the offerings… Hiro, five boxes of chocolate and Tadashi…
"Oh my gosh… is that?" Honey Lemon leaned over his shoulder, giving him a hopeful look.
He grinned.
"Triple chocolate cheesecake with decaf coffee whipped cream and chocolate curls." His grin turned into a sheepish smile. "We wanted to make it up to you ladies."
"How…?"
"Oh, I flew all over the city getting the orders and Fred helped. He owed Nii-san." Hiro took off his helmet, shaking his hair out. "We're sorry but we really do adore you and we didn't plan this."
Kathleen went up to her husband, kissing his cheek.
"I forgive you. We're sorry for snapping."
"Me too." Honey Lemon nuzzled Tadashi. "We're okay?"
"I mean… we didn't have to cook, so I think so." Tadashi chuckled. "Shall we?"
"Yes." Kathleen hurried to the backyard. "KIDS! DINNER!"
She had to jump out of the way as the small stampede of children scurried past her to the dining room, the last being Baymax, carrying a very sleepy Hisashi.
"I got him."
"He was a touch upset from being hungry. I got him to relax."
"Thanks." She bounced him a bit, carrying him to the table. "C'mon love."
The seven year old pouted before he perked up, seeing the food.
"WOW!"
"Hungry?"
"Starvin!"
The adults laughed, before they tucked in.
This is gonna work out.
Not like the kids are gonna be born on the same day.
