CHAPTER TWENTY

DAY THREE

Kiara and Sayaka had made it back in time to deter the demons that were aiming for the tunnel. The moment they felt their powers, they turned tail and made a quick getaway. Kiara and Sayaka got caught up quickly on what they missed while they were away and got to work to better secure the location. At one point, Kiara stood on a cliff and looked up to the sky. Kiara was unnerved. Something was coming. Something big was coming but she couldn't figure out what it was.

"Where's your head right now?" Sayaka asked.

"Everywhere," Kiara chuckled. "Yours?"

"Home, with Hiei. I miss him," she said as she looked down at their camp. "You ok?"

"Hopefully we'll be home soon. It would be nice to just enjoy a drama free life for a bit," Kiara joked before nodding. "Just a sense of impending doom. Nothing out of the normal. You?"

Sayaka laughed before looking towards her sister. "Kai.." she started her words faltering.

Kiara gave her sister a curious look. It wasn't like her sister to not speak her mind. "You worried about what's to come after this?" she asked as she pulled her sister in a hug. Sayaka nodded softly as she held her sister tightly. "Nothing you need to worry about. Being the baby comes with a privilege. You can do whatever you want after this."

"But you don't, do you? You have to go back to Spirit World. A place you hate. I see you. Here you shine. You're at your strongest here. I know given the choice, you'd be here in Demon World," Sayaka said as she pulled away.

Kiara chuckled. "You're right. I fell in love with Demon World. I see this world as my home. I love the family I built here but it's time for both of us to grow up. I was stupid to think for one second that I could escape my fate. I am destined to rule Spirit World but I've had some time to think about that and I think I can do something that neither dad nor Papa could do," Kiara said with a big smile

"Oh? What is that?" Sayaka asked.

"I'll save that secret for a later date," Kiara said as she winked at her sister then turned to the flying bat demons. "Hey, something wrong?"

"I don't know. We've got a major power spike heading our way," Sienna said with a concerned look.

"What direction? We'll get ready to counter," Kiara said as she tried to sense the power. It didn't take long for her to feel the large power but what surprised her was that it was coming from above. "Oh no!"

"What is it?" Sayaka asked.

"It's coming from Human World," Kuronue confirmed as he landed next to them. He had been gaining strength day by day, returning back to the bat demon they knew and loved.

"Human World?! But that means the barrier is broken!" Sayaka said panicked.

Thunder roared and lightning flashed above them, drawing their attention. High in the sky, a dark figure was falling. Kiara focused on the figure and knew exactly who it was. "Sensui is here," she said as she jumped down the cliff. If her father's team had failed, then it was up to her to stop him. Sienna, Kuronue and Sayaka followed her down as she took off in the direction of where Sensui would land. But their attention was once again returned to the sky as three more figures emerged. "Sienna! Kuronue! Take us up!"

Kuronue grabbed Kiara as Sienna grabbed Sayaka and flew at top speed to reach the three falling figures. By the time they reached them, they were safely gliding, their attention turned towards them. "Well, welcome to Demon World. We're the welcoming committee. I hope you all have had your vaccinations," Kuronue joked, getting a wry look from Youko.

Kiara gave him a shocked look, seeing him in his fox form but he just shook his head. There wasn't a chance to explain. Kuwabara looked around at everyone confused. "Um, who are those two? Do we really need shots?" he asked.

"He's joking. Did you really cut that freaking barrier, Kuwabara?!" Kiara bit out.

"Hn, he didn't have a choice. We were trapped. It seems our power levels have hit A Class," Hiei said even as his eyes looked over his mate with relief.

"What happened?" Sienna asked.

"Yusuke is dead," Youko said, drawing a dark look from everyone. "Murdered by Sensui."

Kiara was shocked that she was saddened by the news of Yusuke's death but she was. Rage filled her as her eyes zeroed in on Sensui. "Damned fool," she said before looking to her right. "Dammit! We have more company."

"They have been persistent," Sienna said before looking towards Kiara. "Want us to handle this while you help these guys out?"

"Dammit! Why can't I split myself in half?! Kiara cursed.

"I don't want you near Sensui," Youko said drawing her attention.

Kiara glared at him as he glared back at her. As the two foxes glared, Kuronue laughed. "You two really haven't changed!" he laughed before Kiara elbowed him in the ribs hard enough to loosen his grip slightly on her. "Hey! I almost dropped you. Don't do that!"

"Take me back to our fight. I'll leave Sensui to you three but don't you dare lose," she said, her angry slipping out with every word as she looked at her mate. Youko nodded as they moved away from them. Kuronue and Sienna took Kiara and Sayaka back to the front line, just as another wave of demons approached. This was the biggest wave to come, their numbers greater than their own. Kiara tried her hardest to focus on the demons coming their way but really she was worried about her mate, her brother-in-law, and even the idiot human.

"Kiara! Focus here!" Sienna shouted as a demon aimed for her.

Kiara dodged the attack just in time as the demons sword hit the ground where she was once standing. With no effort, she killed the demon and returned her focus to their fight. When their fight was over, Kiara looked towards Youko and found all three on the ground and Sensui still standing. Without hesitation, Kiara took off towards her mate, an instant fear as she remembered the last time she saw him on the ground in Demon World with a foe standing over him.

Sienna watched Kiara take off towards the group fighting the human. "Dammit!" she shouted as she ran after her. Kuronue was hot on her tail as her sister followed close by.

"What the hell is she doing?" Kuronue shouted.

"She's panicking! This is exactly how she found Youko the last time," Sienna shouted before Kuronue understood.

The three of them ran to catch up to Kiara but crashed into her when a loud screeching noise came from above them. An enormous spirit beast flew past them before landing next to their friends. Kiara picked up speed as she recognized the spirit animal. She finally caught up to the group as Yusuke was lecturing his friends for leaving him behind. Yusuke turned his attention to Kiara and smiled. "What were you saying about balanced?" he said with a cheesy grin. "Can't get more balanced than half demon half human."

Kiara actually felt her jaw drop. "You idiot," she said, even as she laughed. When Koenma dismounted Puu, he walked up beside her. Kiara actually couldn't hide her shock seeing her father there. "Do you have any idea where you are right now?"

"Yes, I know I'm in Demon World. But I didn't have a choice. I disobeyed Papa," he said gaining the first genuine smile from his daughter in a long time.

"Welcome to the bad child's club. So, you hired the Mazoku?" she asked. "Batting a thousand over there."

"Shut up, Kaida," Koenma said before Sienna walked up to him. "Sienna, it's nice to-"

Before he could finish his statement, her fist collided with his face. Kiara looked at Sienna and her father and busted out laughing. "THAT WAS THE GREATEST THING EVER! WISH I HAD RECORDED THAT!" she said through her laughter.

Koenma wiped at the blood on his face before shooting his daughter a dirty look. "I guess I deserve that," he said.

"I feel better now. It's nice to meet you too, Toddler Prince," she said with a smile.

Kurama stood up and walked over to Kiara, taking her in his arms as Kuronue went grabbed Sienna throwing her over his shoulder. "Behave," he said as he playfully swatted her backside.

Yusuke shook his head as he began talking about his heart. Kaida ignore the poor human as she turned to her mate. "You scared me," she whispered into his chest.

"I'm alright," he whispered back, nuzzling his face in her hair, his hand over her stomach. "How's our baby?"

"Worried about you as I am. Youko.." she started before he pulled her tight against him.

"Shush. It's alright," he said before pulling away. "But the fight isn't over. Stay with Kuronue and Sienna. I'll be with you soon enough."

Youko took Kiara lips in his and kissed her deeply, not wanting to let her go but he knew their fight wasn't over. Separating from her, her gave her another chais kiss before pushing her towards Kuronue.

Kuronue instantly steeled his arms around her, knowing full well that he would do anything for his friend. "Come on, let's not get in the way," he said as he pulled her into the air.

Sienna was right behind them, Sayaka in hers. The four demons looked down below as they showed their energy off. But as quickly as it started, it was over, with Puu taking them into the air to join them. Sienna placed Sayaka on Puu's back so that she was with Hiei and Kuronue handed Kiara to Youko. And with a blast of energy, the two spirit detectives went head to head.

"My man, you've got some strange new friends," Kuronue commented as he watched the battle.

"And you're the king of them," Youko said gaining a smirk from Kuronue. Youko held Kiara tightly as they watched the fight. He wasn't sure how this would end.

Kiara watched the two of them battle before a blinding light took over and Yusuke's screams were heard. Youko flew them closer to see what had happened but what appeared before them was a different person than their Yusuke. "Dad?" Kiara asked as she looked at Yusuke.

"What?" he asked as they flew around to get a better look at Yusuke.

"Who is his ancestor?" she asked as she stared down at Yusuke. In the back of her head, she was pretty certain she knew the answer and if she was right, then they were in trouble.

"We don't know," he said as he looked at her. "Why?"

"Because I think his ancestor is still alive and he just took over his body," she said as she felt Youko tightened his arms around her.

"How powerful is this demon?" Youko asked even as his own senses were blown away by the sheer power levels below him. Kiara didn't answer him as the two continued to battle on. All she could do was focus on the battle below her. Kiara held tightly to her mate as she felt Yusuke power up.

Everyone pulled away as they saw Yusuke get into his normal Spirit Gun stance. The light of energy collecting at his finger was blinding that Kiara turned into her mate's shoulder to shield her eyes. As the shot was fired, they hear Yusuke shout. "GET OUT OF THE WAY!" he shouted but it was too late and Sensui was hit with the blast.

It seemed at the very last second, Yusuke regain control of his body but not fast enough to save Sensui. When the fight was finished, the team landed beside Yusuke as he stood over Sensui's body. With one shot, it was over. The SDF would close the tunnel and easily repair the Kekkai. But as the friends stood there, they all could sense that something had changed and that something bigger was around the bend. Their adventures weren't over. Not by a long shot.

"Kiara, you think you know who his ancestor is?" Koenma asked as he looked at his oldest daughter. Kiara stood still as she looked at Yusuke. She was frowning softly as she watched him. Though he joked and laughed like the Spirit Detective they all knew him to be, the moments before spoke volumes of what lies deep within his DNA.

"No," she finally said. As she turned away from Yusuke. "I was mistaken."

Youko looked at Kuronue then back to Kiara. They knew something that Koenma didn't. She was lying. Youko eyed her carefully, locking his gaze with hers but she refused to yield. Instead she started to walk away from the group.

"Where are you going?" Nakita asked, gaining everyone's attention.

"I need to make sure everyone gets home. Likewise, it's best if the humans leave as well. No doubt Papa minions have been hard at work to seal you all in here therefore no longer posing as a problem for Papa. I wouldn't waste time," she said before turning to leave again.

Sienna ran up to Kiara grabbing her arm. "Go home. I'll make sure everyone gets back safe and sound. I'll visit whenever thing settles here," she said as she hugged her friend then pushed her towards Youko, not giving her room to argue.

Youko held Kiara tightly. He wasn't going to be separated from her again. These past days had been agony on him and he wouldn't put himself through it again. "She's got this. Let's go home," he whispered softly to her. Not willing to argue, she joined the others on the back of Puu as he took off into the Demon World sky and back to Human World. But deep down, they all knew that something darked lurked in the corner.
