A/N: Now we are finally at the end. I apologize for the extreme delay. I honestly thought we would be here sooner. It's a crap ending, I'm sorry.
Contemplating re-writing the whole Wolves in Washington Series but I know I'd be forever and a day lol
Charlie Swan was a quit man. His life was quiet. Even his job as the police chief was quiet and almost always uneventful.
Most action Charlie Swan could remember was 12 years prior.
3-Year Old Claire Young, Kidnapped from Reservation School in broad daylight.
For the first several months things were intense. Leah had kidnapped a child. His step-daughter had taken an innocent child from her family and home.
Charlie had contemplated resigning.
But things grew quiet again. He could live in peace with Sue. Eventually, years would pass and the Claire Young kidnapping would fade into the background. It would not be forgotten. Minor things-Leah's birthday, a memory-would bring it all back for a moment. But, life would go on.
Claire's, no Andie's, return would drag it all back to the surface again.
Claire Young Found, Hiding in Plain Sight in Chevy Chase Maryland
This is where Charlie's quiet life would become…less quiet again.
The whole situation was a mess.
The Youngs unrealistic expectations in regards to reconciliation.
Andie's oppositional behavior.
The Tribe's, especially Quil V's obsession with the girl and always asking after her.
Leah's husband Marcus, who obviously knew all about the situation. Charlie wasn't touching that little fact with a 10-foot pole.
Leah. Content and completely unbothered by the life-long jail sentence that she was about to embark.
The whole thing was crazy.
But this moment. The moment where Charlie would find both Lily Young and Andie Richardson sitting across from him. This is the moment he would have never expected to find himself in.
This was the most craziest moment of all.
Charlie rubbed at his eyes tiredly.
"What brings you both here?"
They did not come together. They looked shocked to see the other upon arrival. Mother first, then determined, uncanny Leah look-alike daughter.
"I…" They both started.
Charlie shook his head and waved them both off.
"Ms. Young, please."
Lily's dark eyes flickered over at Andie. She froze for a moment, looking over the young girl's tired face.
Years.
"I'm sorry."
She'd hurt her for years.
"I'm sorry that I was not brave enough before. I'm sorry that we did not protect you like we should have."
Lily's dark eyes glimmered with tears, but she refused to let them fall.
"It's okay." Andie replied quietly. A small smile played on her lips; it did not reach her wide, somber eyes. "Really."
A headshake. "No, no it's not."
Lily looked back at Charlie.
"I planned it."
Charlie's eyes grow cartoon-ishly wide, as shock colored his face.
"What?" He asked, unsure of what he was hearing.
"I arranged the whole kidnapping with Leah for her to take Andie to Maryland. I planned it for nearly a year, so no one would suspect anything."
Charlie could not believe what he was hearing.
"Why would you do this?"
"H-he was going to hurt me."
Lily and Charlie both looked at Andie.
"Quil." Andie continued even quieter. "I remember. I've remembered all my life. He was obsessed with me."
Charlie did not disbelieve that. Quil had been asking after the girl since she arrived. He and Billy Black almost made it seem like the girl should have met him before her own parents and sister.
Charlie looked to Lily.
"Explain."
"My sister-in-law Emily and her husband Sam Uley, used to babysit for the girls. That's when Quil met her. They would leave Claire with him, even when John and I asked him to stop. That's when we got Leah involved. She wanted to move out and we offered her a way to do it. She wanted a new life away from Sam, I made a way for her."
This all wasn't new to Charlie. Most knew the Leah/Sam story. And Leah was very vocal about her desire to get away, much to Sue's distress.
"Why this extreme though? You could've reported Quil's actions to the police or the tribe at any time."
"I was afraid that they wouldn't believe me. He hadn't done anything yet. It was more like grooming. No one was listening though. No one heard me. Leah got it though."
Charlie could tell that Lily was leaving something out. Something tribe related. He could also tell that she was definitely afraid, that she felt that this was her only choice.
Andie eyed Lily, her tearful mother.
"It was kind of a dramatic decision." Lily let out a watery chuckle at Andie's words. "But, I was happy. There was no Quil looming in the back of my childhood, waiting to fuck me at 18."
Charlie coughed at the girl's words. "Hell!"
Andie ignored him. She only focused on Lily, who only focused on her. In this second, it was just the two of them.
"I was happy. I am happy." She repeated.
Lily nodded slowly as tears spilled down her cheeks.
"Can you help us?" Andie looked to Charlie. Her eyes gleamed with hope and determination.
Charlie nearly groaned audibly.
"You're going to have to be brave. Both of you." He eyed both Lily and Andie. "It's time we start telling the truth."
"Okay." Both Andie and Lily agreed.
Charlie nodded. "Alright."
Charlie could already hear the state police. Feel the exhaustion from the hassle that this whole situation would create. How loud his quiet life was about to become even more so.
But 1 month later, when Sue and Leah and Leah and Andie would be reunited again, he would not care.
