Yuna was no psychologist but she could sense tension between the two couples. One of side Kairi and and Sora seemed happy but Yuna could definitely see some pain in the way they reacted to each other, and Namine and Riku were simply outright arguing in the distance. She'd never seen Namine so animated before, she was throwing her hands around and the anger was clear in her expression. Riku, on the other hand just seemed irritated with her. Across the field Kairi leaned against a tree and there was a pretty clear expression of worry on her face as she rester hand on Sora's left shoulder. His head hung on her should as he leaned his body weight against the tree, his entire body tense. What was going on here? Why hadn't Namine and Kairi said anything to her? Suddenly, Tidus wraps his arm around her shoulders and takes in the scene before them as well.
"Sora and Riku haven't sad anything to you?" She asks worriedly.
"Afraid not, I'm not sure I've really ever seen either one of them like this before, any ideas as to what it might be?"
"I have no idea. It's so strange" Yuna huffs in frustration. It looked to her like the girls needed a girl's night out...no boys allowed.
"You got them?" she asks Tidus.
"Yeah, I'll see what i can find out" he replies simply.
At lunch, the girls sit down at their usual table. Kairi seemed normal but Namine was visibly fuming and glaring at Riku form across the cafeteria. He was obviously avoiding sitting with her right now.
"Is this still the Roxas thing?" Yuna asks quietly. Kairi looks toward Namine.
"Riku is just an idiot and obviously doesn't trust me." she seethes. Out of the corner of her eyes, she can see Kairi's normally bright expression falter as she glances at Namine but her expression returns as quickly as it appeared making her wonder if it had ever been there in the first place. She was one damn good liar. Riku and Sora were with Tidus and she clearly see the awkwardness between Sora and Riku, who was definitely brooding.
"You know what we need? A girl's night! Just the three of us!" She says happily trying to up the mood. If she wanted information she needed to get them both in better moods.
"You know, I think that's a really great idea Yuna...but I kind of have some stuff going on" Kairi replies.
"Oh?" egging her on to give more information.
"yeah...I've got this huge test coming up and I really need to study for it" Kairi replies quickly
"You're a straight A student Kairi, i think you can take a day off." Yuna retorts
"I mean i'm a stright A student because I-"
"You're coming" Kairi shuts her mouth. yuna looks at the blonde
"Namine?" Naime looks at her brunette friend.
"All my plans are cancelled this weekend" she shrugs. Yuna smirks
On the other side of the cafeteria Tidus watches his girlfriend work her magic. "You guys up for a match later?" Sora's interest perks up
"Two on one?" this could be his chance to patch things up with Riku and he wouldn't pass it down.
"You're on! Riku and I could totally take you on!" One down, one more to go.
"You in, Riku?" he asks the silver haired teen. Riku's disinterested aqua eyes glance Tidus' way but he shrugs quietly signaling his confirmation. He sees Sora's eyes light up with excitement.
The fighting matches turned out to be a good idea because Sora and Riku obviously had some pent up aggression they'd needed to burn out on each other, or at least it seemed like it judging from their competitions, but soon the boys were laughing and enjoying the day as if nothing was wrong.
"Sea salt ice cream?" Tidus suggests. They sit down with their frozen treats and Tidus is glad that things seems to have calmed down even if only temporarily, but he knew he should probably talk to them about whatever it was between them. He wasn't exactly great at advice but his friends really matter to him and he'd like to keep as much peace as he's able to.
"So... I don't really know what's going on with you guys but whatever it is...I just...don't think you guys should let it get between your friendship" He says awkwardly. Sora and Riku's mood change quickly with the new topic.
"We're okay Tidus, we just need to figure some things out" Riku stubbornly replies
"Yeah, we're totally cool right Riku?" Sora playfully punches Riku in the arm, and something between them softens.
"Your friendship is important to me too Riku" Sora adds
"You're stupid Sora" Riku smirks
"I'm not stupid!" Sora whines and Riku and Sora are laughing again.
Writer's note: Still trying to figure out the plot at this point but i've got some ideas. I'm sure the beginning of this seems cringe worthy. It feels cringe worthy to me but i'm doing my best to turn it into something I think is enjoyable to read so please enjoy my inconsistencies! Once again please excuse the different tone of the story and the short chapters as i try to write my way out of the weird hole I've dug myself into! Thanks for reading!
