A Raven's Guide to Seducing a Blonde

Chapter 19: I Promise I Will Come Back For You

Despite the hot and steamy start the morning, the weather outside had other ideas. Torrential rain and thunderstorms had been forecasted but Naruto didn't expect it to be so intense. He sat around the kitchen table with Sasuke sitting comfortably beside him. This was the first time that Sasuke had stayed over Naruto's family home and there were a lot of people sitting around the table, something which Sasuke was not all that used to. Kushina had spent the last half hour teasing his son with baby pictures and embarrassing stories from his childhood, causing Naruto to politely curse at every chance he got. Of course, his mother would pick today to take her revenge on him for all of his mishaps. It seemed to entertain and comfort Sasuke though, especially since he knew how nervous his boyfriend was about first lasting impressions. Sasuke really wanted them to like him and he felt like it was going well so far. Naruto's younger siblings had taken a liking to him quite well, and it warmed his heart to see.

Since the weather was so bad Sasuke had decided to spend the day with Naruto at his home. He saw it as a blessing in disguise because he wasn't quite ready to go home and face his father since he still hadn't made a decision about college. He watched peacefully as Naruto played with his younger sisters. Jessi was only 3 years old but seemed to be quite smart for her age, especially compared to Kairi who was 5. Misa was probably one of the most different out of the lot, who was 12 years old. She was the one sibling who was very close to Naruto growing up and she still has those fond memories of being very young and growing with her older brother. It affected her the most when Naruto went off the rails because to her, one minute he was there and the next he was barely around. She didn't quite understand when he went to juvy. Her mother tried to explain the best she could and as she got older she started to understand a little bit more. She coped a lot better when he went to prison as it wasn't much of a change since she had grown apart from her brother. Naruto knew his relationship with Misa was going to be the most difficult to fix. She barely wanted to interact with him despite his many attempts to communicate. Kushina expressed her concerns many times about how she may not be coping with the way things played out and it might have affected her more than she realised. Misa used to be a very energetic and sociable young girl, quite similar to Naruto which is why they connected so well as siblings. But now she barely wants to interact with anyone and it's difficult to get a conversation out of her. Naruto blames himself entirely and hoped that he can eventually make things better for her. He hated the thought of being so responsible for ruining his sister's childhood.

Sasuke saw Misa sitting on her own in the corner of the living room, reading a book. Naruto had told him about the difficult time she was having, and Sasuke felt although he could somehow relate to her. He went over and sat beside her.

"I've read that one, it's one of my favourites" he spoke softly, pointing at the book in her hand.

Misa didn't take her eyes off the page. He did notice she had been staring at the same page for quite a while and he assumed that the book was some sort of distraction.

"Have you read the ending yet? I think you'd be happy with how it turns out".

"I've read it many times, actually…" she said rather uninterested. "I don't have many others I can read".

"Are you interested in reading more?"

"I guess so. But I don't like to ask for more books, I know how much my mom needs her money for other things"

Sasuke felt saddened but humbled by her words. She had a lot of similar traits to Naruto and he could feel how empathetic she was to her family as well as grateful for the things she had.

"If you like, you could borrow some of mine? I have a bunch from when I was younger that are just collecting dust on a bookshelf"

She smiled without taking her eyes off her book.

Their conversation was interrupted by the sound of Sasuke's cell phone ringing. He took it out of his pocket and sighed. He knew the only reason his father would be calling him is for one reason only, and he promised himself he wouldn't make a decision before talking to Naruto. But he honestly didn't have a clue on how to bring up the conversation. There was no easy way to say to your new boyfriend who you'd fought so hard to be with, that you might have to leave him behind. Especially since he spent so long making Naruto understand how that was something which he couldn't cope with again, but he never knew that it would be him that would be making this decision this time around.

"Is everything alright Sasuke?" Naruto asked as he sat in front of him on the living room floor.

"It's my father, I'm not ready to speak to him right now," he said as he put his phone back into his pocket.

"I didn't get the chance to ask you about it yesterday, has something happened?"

"It's… complicated".

"That's alright," he said as he moved closer to him, caressing his cheek. "Whatever it is, I'll do my best to help".

Misa looked up to her brother. She saw how affectionate and gentle he was to Sasuke and felt memories flashback in her head. She missed how close she was to her brother and seeing how close he was to this new person made her smile unintentionally, causing Naruto to notice. The blonde smiled back.

"Sasuke wants to lend me some books" she spoke out for the first time to her brother.

"Oh is that right?" he smiled looking back to Sasuke.

"I thought she'd get better use out of them rather than them sitting in my library".

Misa started laughing at the comment Sasuke made.

"Are you really that posh that you have your own library?" she teased.

Naruto laughed along with her. "He's weird right?"

"Hey! That's totally not fair. You can't gang up on me" he teased back.

Kiba was finding it difficult to decide what he wanted to do regarding college. Shikamaru had decided to accept his offer to Brown but Kiba wasn't exactly as academically smart as him. The only thing which appealed him about college was the party scene. He knew it would be a waste of time though because there was no way he could endure another few years of academics, it just wasn't for him.

"Why don't you ask Naruto's stepfather if you could work at the diner? It might keep you going through the summer until you decide what you want to do"

"I don't know Shika. I mean, I always thought my parents would help me with this decision to be honest, but they're always working that they don't really give a shit what I decide, as long as I do something productive and not party all of the time"

Shikamaru always did wonder why his parents were always so flexible about his teenage son's lifestyle. They knew about the constant partying and the stuff that went on in their home. As long as Kiba kept things clean and their furniture wasn't destroyed, they had no problems. Plus they were happy he was spending time at home instead of out on the streets like the majority of kids in this neighbourhood. Shika guessed it was kind of a good way of keeping all of the trouble makers in one place, at least then they could always intervene if there was any type of trouble. But he felt kind of sorry for Kiba, he looked like he was craving his parents affection more than he cared to admit, even in important times like this when you're making big decisions about your future, it helps to have family support and input. Kiba was battling with his inner self. He missed Naruto and the days before he went to prison. Everything changed when he got out and they graduated without him. Kiba was happy Naruto got the help he needed and was in a good place with his friends and especially his family but, he couldn't help but feel like he was losing his best friend.

"Kiba it wouldn't hurt to just text Naruto you know"

"Huh? What makes you think that I'm thinking of him, huh?" he pouted.

"I can always tell. He's at home at the moment, why don't you go round?"

"He's probably with Sasuke" he said in a sulky tone.

"Oh come on, I thought you liked Sasuke?" Shikamaru knew Kiba felt a bit jealous ever since Sasuke came onto the scene, but when they got into a serious relationship he thought he had accepted it and got over it.

"I do its just… he spends all of his free time with him"

"Have you even asked him if he wanted to hang out?"

"… no" he sulked more.

"Well then its your fault too! I swear you're both so fucking stubborn" Shikamaru responded with his hand to his face. "I'm literally texting him right now"

"What are you going to say? Don't you dare say I'm missing him or anything!"

"Aww was that you admitting you actually miss Naruto?" he joked.

"Pfft"

"He said you can come round anytime, even though you already knew that" he said showing him the text.

"Send him a message, Kiba. He probably misses you too"

"Maybe later… I'm not really in the mood right now"

Sasuke spent the majority of the day just hanging out with Naruto and his siblings and he loved every minute of it. It made him miss his brother even more and he just wished he knew where he was and how to contact him. All he could do was hope he was doing better than when he had left. Even just one night away from his home had made him feel this good, so he could only imagine how much better Itachi would be feeling now that he's completely free. It made moving away to college a more attractive option. Now that Naruto's mother had returned home, she was happy to see how well Naruto was connecting with his younger siblings. It a while for her to be able to trust her son with her younger children again since he stopped helping out when Nagato was around. It was nice for her to see he had matured. She took over when she got home from work, leaving Sasuke alone with Naruto. The blonde sat on the edge of the bed with Sasuke, trying to figure out what they could do for the rest of the night.

"Is your mother alright with you being here all day?"

"Yeah, she was fine with it. I explained that I didn't want to drive home in this weather. But now that the storm has stopped, I should probably head home soon".

"I've really enjoyed today, Sasuke," he said as he pulled his lover close to him, planting a passionate kiss on his neck.

"Mmm, yes so have I. I've really enjoyed getting to know your family, especially your younger sisters."

"They're great aren't they?" the blonde replied, blushing.

"I can tell how much Misa loves you"

"You think so? I can't really tell much anymore. What did you say to her? Because whatever it was you need to share with me!"

Sasuke laughed. "I just started a conversation with her; I didn't even talk about you"

"Oh? What did you talk about?"

"Just the book she was reading"

"That's all it took?"

"It seems she just needs to be noticed a little bit more. I can tell how much she wants to reconnect with you. I think you might just need to get to know her all over again. She's only 12, so she's still learning about the world"

"Yeah, I guess you're right". He said as he kissed Sasuke sweetly on the lips. It was moments like this he wanted to savour.

"Naruto, I need to talk to you about something important"

The blonde looked at him with confused eyes. Something didn't feel right and he started to feel anxiety swell up in the pit of his stomach. Sasuke began to explain his situation as easily as he could, mentioning how he's torn between staying in town and moving away to college. The colleges he got accepted into were Brown, Princeton and Yale; all three which were Ivy League schools. His father and his family name were always going to guarantee his acceptance into one of the top establishments, although many of the Uchiha's skipped the whole college experience altogether and went straight into business. It was always a popular choice with the elite as the degrees they usually work towards are for jobs and positions they could just claim anyways. The same went for Sasuke. Since Itachi left there was an early spot for a position in his father's investment company, something which Sasuke had zero interest in pursuing. He used to want to be highly involved in the Uchiha legacy but when he saw how much pressure his father put on his brother and how he literally suffered an entire life breakdown over it, it was obviously a major turn off. Hence why Sasuke wanted to do anything he could to show he wasn't up to the job and got himself into trouble in private school. He remembered how he planned to do so much once he got to a public high school, and he even wanted to go as far as getting kicked out and not achieving his diploma, just to spite his father. But that didn't exactly go to plan after he met Naruto on his first day. The blonde became his entire life and his perspective changed. He saw how Naruto needed to actually do well and not get into trouble, and the last thing Sasuke wanted was to contribute to that. So he decided against it and would deal with his future when the time came. He just didn't expect to be having to make this decision right now; it came around way too fast.

Naruto listened carefully to Sasuke not knowing which emotion to feel. He was a mix of sadness, happiness and intense proudness. He was so happy he got into such good colleges and had the chance to actually take control of his future, but he was worried that his relationship might cause Sasuke to make the wrong choice. Naruto didn't want to be the reason Sasuke was unhappy, even if that was the easiest decision. He didn't want his boyfriend to be far away in a different state, that's the last thing he wanted. But he also didn't want to hold him back. College was never an option for Naruto so it wasn't as if he could go with him.

The raven held both Naruto's hands tightly in his own and looked into his beautiful diamond eyes. He smiled knowing that no matter what, his love for this man would never change.

"Naruto, I know that this is a difficult decision but… I can't make it without you"

"You know it has to be your choice? I'll support you no matter what you decide"

"Do you think we could survive with a long-distance relationship?" he asked nervously.

When Sasuke said it out loud, it sounded so simple. But the way their relationship was at the moment, it was still new and fresh and there were still a lot of things they needed to work through. Naruto didn't want to admit it but, perhaps he really needed to end the relationship. He had a bad feeling that Sasuke wouldn't cope with a long-distance relationship and would end up messing things up where his education was concerned, and that was something he didn't want to be responsible for. He had no idea what the solution was, but he figured he should get some advice from his friends before he helped him make his decision.

"How long have you got before you have to decide?"

"Well… I have about 2 weeks before I need to accept an offer. But…" he said hesitating to finish, "But my father is really pressuring me to make a decision"

"Say you didn't go to college and you stayed here, what would happen? What would your other option be?"

"In my ideal world, I would probably just get a job. But it's not that easy for me, especially with my family name. Usually, I need permission to branch off, or as my mother usually calls it my family's blessing. But that sure isn't going to happen with my father. He's way too controlling and always knows what is best for me. So I imagine he would do what he made Itachi do, and force me to work in his company. Which to anyone who isn't an Uchiha or works for my family wouldn't understand how much of a bad option that was, depending on how headstrong you are that is"

"It would really be that bad?"

"I never did tell you about my brother, did I…?"

Naruto could sense that Sasuke was aching to open up. Something about this conversation seemed to be darker than he was leading on. He never did talk about his brother, not really. He pulled him closer indicating that he could trust him.

Itachi was the prodigy of the Uchiha's family legacy. Their family was amongst the elite dating back generations. His father was pretty much stuck in their old ways and acted as if their family were royalty. Being very strict with tradition, his firstborn son was always supposed to be the one who would take over the company once their father either died, stepped down or just simply retired. Either way, Itachi didn't have much of a choice. His brother was extremely loyal to his family and although he didn't agree with his father's out-dated views, he knew that all he wanted was for his family to be taken care of and their legacy intact. Itachi also understood the pressure his father also bared. He wasn't given a choice by his own father to take over the company, who had died quite suddenly and it was his dying wish. Nobody wanted to be that Uchiha who broke their family traditions and legacy that had been in place since probably when the Uchiha family tree began, that alone is a high burden to carry. This is why Itachi was so loyal and understanding that he did everything he could to please his father and put his trust in him. He took a lot of the burdens off him which led to Sasuke having quite a happy upbringing. That was until things took an ugly turn. Itachi fell in love with a girl who worked for the company. She wasn't really interested in what the Uchiha's stood for and for that reason my father forbid him from being in a relationship with her. He disagreed and tried to reason with him that his relationship would not get in the way of his own values and loyalties and that he had nothing to worry about. Sasuke's father was only happy when he was in full control and over time, he got worse with his actions. Right after high school, Itachi didn't get the choice to study a further education, whereas his girlfriend who he was at the time now dating in secret, wanted him to go off to college with him, and never return.

Through all of this, Itachi grew depressed and pressured as his father piled a lot of responsibilities onto his shoulders and promised him the company if he'd stay. When that wasn't enough to convince him, his father locked him away until he saw sense. At the time, Sasuke was still a young boy and didn't understand why his brother was being treated this way. Mikoto, his mother was afraid of her husband and had to watch her oldest son be destroyed by his own father, all for the sake of the Uchiha legacy. Eventually, Itachi went from depressed to madness and lost his mind. Sasuke remembers the day he left perfectly. It was raining in the middle of spring, and Sasuke had been struggling to settle into his new private school. All he could think about was his brother being locked away in his room and it scared him that maybe this is what his future held for him too. He grew to resent his father but wouldn't dream of going against his wishes. It was after school and his parents weren't at home. Sasuke decided to sit outside the door and attempt to talk to Itachi. It wasn't until minutes later that he responded, recognizing his little brothers voice on the other side. His brother had convinced Sasuke to break him out of the room. And that's exactly what he did, without even thinking. He never forgot what his brother said to him that day.

"Sasuke, no matter what I will always love you. I hope you can be stronger than I was. I'm sorry that I have to leave you here but I need you to be strong and take care of our mother. I have to go away for a while before things get bad again"

"Are you going away for long?" Sasuke responded through tears to his dear brother.

"In order to get better, I need help. Unfortunately, I am not well at the moment and father is making things terribly worse for me. I promise Sasuke, I promise I will come back for you one day. But until then, stay strong".

Sasuke waited years for him to return but he never heard from him again. It was painful to think about but now he felt like he was in the same situation as Itachi, and it terrified him.

"Sasuke… that's fucking insane" Naruto responded, causing Sasuke to frown. "I'm sorry you all went through all of that… I never realised how much pain you were in"

"I'm good at hiding it. This is… the first time I've ever talked about it"

"You mean you've been bottling that up all this time?"

"Mhm. Like I told you on the first day, you're the first friend that I ever had. It's not as if I had anyone I could trust"

Naruto smiled. It warmed his heart knowing that after everything he had put him through, he could still manage to trust him.

"Come here, baby," Naruto said softly, cupping the bottom of his chin, "Promise me something"

Sasuke nuzzled his nose in response.

"You'll come to me if you find yourself trapped. I don't want you to end up like your brother. I'm sorry if that sounds insensitive… I, uhm… I don't know how to put it in better words…"

"Naruto it's alright" he chuckled, "I know what you're trying to say. I promise"

"You realise that you've pretty much made your decision Sasuke, right?"

"How is that?" he asked confused.

"Well there is absolutely no way staying here is an option for you. By the sounds of it, you're lucky he's actually giving you the option to go to college"

"Yeah, I expected him to put me straight into the company. Although I think the reason why is because he doesn't trust me as much as he trusted Itachi. He was more mature at my age then I am right now. I'm still just a teenager in his eyes. College would be a good move for me"

"Well I for one think you're a sexy, mature, smart and inspirational man," he said, as he kissed him gently on the lips in-between each compliment, causing Sasuke to blush unexpectedly. "So it's settled then. All you need to do now is decide which college to accept right?"

"I'm leaning more towards Brown. It looks amazing"

"Maybe we can go visit the campus this weekend? It might help you decide! I'll ask Minato for the time off work, I'm sure he'll be fine with it" Naruto said, excited to be able to support his boyfriend.

"Sounds like fun." He smiled. "Naruto…"

"Mmh?"

Sasuke grabbed him tightly into a hug. "What does this mean for us? For our relationship?"

"We will cross that bridge when we come to it. For now, focus on one thing at a time alright?"

"But Naruto…"

"No buts! This is more important. Besides, we're fine. We are strong and can get through anything. I know it'll be hard, but we can just see how things go alright?"

"Naruto?"

"Yes, Sasuke?"

"When I leave, I promise I'll come back for you".

To be continued.
