Draco sighed for the umpteenth time that day. The meeting proved useless, as no one was able to find a way around the ritual. They apparently had to use a bloody human sacrifice, and Draco was not having any of it.

Draco lifted his head up and was surprised to see Narcissa.

"Mother" Draco's voice held the slightest hint of surprise. "I did not know you were back so early."

"It was about time I returned" Narcissa replied in a soft voice. Draco would never admit it, but he missed that voice. "How have you been, Draco?"

"I'm doing well, Mother" Draco tried to keep his voice emotionless. "How are you?"

"Oh, there have been better times" Narcissa waved him off. "Come and have a seat."

Draco moved to sit down. As he did, he suddenly felt a rush of emotions remembering that his mother did not know that he knew about.

"Mother" Draco began "I have to tell you something."

"So do I, Draco" Narcissa replied. "However, since you brought it up, you'll be the first."

Draco swallowed the lump in his throat. "I know about Leo."

For a couple of minutes, Narcissa was still. Draco was beginning to think that she might have not heard him when he saw her eyes shimmering with tears.

"I'm glad you know" A single drop of tear fell from her eye. "I was so, so devastated when Lucius gave him up, I- I couldn't sleep properly for months. I wasn't in my right mind when I promised him that we wouldn't tell you, but I'm so glad you know, Draco. Now I have no reason to stay." She began sniffling.

Draco was silent, trying to comprehend her words. "Mother, what do you mean by that?"

"The thing I wanted to tell you was that I overheard the meeting you had just before" Draco's face paled "And-and I think I can help you."

Draco began spluttering. "But wha-how did-the ench-"

"Malfoy!" Granger burst in through the door. "Someone knows our secret-oh, Mrs. Malfoy." She stopped dead in her tracks.

"Hello Miss Granger" Narcissa calmly replied, wiping a stray tear. "And that person would be me, the one who knows the secret, I assume." Narcissa said, looking at Draco.

"Oh" Hermione said, "But the enchantments-"

"I am the mistress of this house" Narcissa interrupted. "Any enchantment performed under this roof will naturally include me."

"I wasn't aware" Hermione mumbled.

"Now you know" Narcissa said. "And as I was saying before, I can help you."

"How?" Draco asked.

"You said that there was going to be a human sacrifice. I can help you work around that."

"Really?" Hermione asked, surprised.

"Yes, I believe I have read something about it when I was younger. I'll get the answer before you perform the spell."

"Ok" Hermione replied after a moment of silence. Draco still looked unsure.

"Get up, Malfoy" The guard said. "You have a visitor."

Lucius was surprised. He did not expect Draco would be back, and so soon too. However, he was more surprised to find Narcissa there.

"Hello Narcissa" Lucius greeted her. "To what do I owe this pleasant visit?"

"Hello Lucius" Narcissa greeted back. "How are you?"

"Confined" Lucius replied. "But justly so."

Both of them just stared at each other, taking each other in.

"You told Draco about Leo?" Narcissa broke the silence.

"He already knew that we had a twin. I just provided the details." Lucius replied.

"I was distraught when they took Leo…." Narcissa's eyes were misty. "That's why I promised that I would give Draco all the love in this world. I promised that I would never make him suffer."

"But I broke the promise" Her voice broke now. "He had to suffer a lot when the Dark Lord returned."

Lucius nodded grimly as he too remembered the painful memories.

"Now he finally has a chance at being happy. And I want you to support it no matter what."

"Narcissa, what are you talking about?" Lucius asked, confused.

"I want you to accept whatever Draco decided about his life- his lifestyle, his life partner..."

Lucius' eyes widened as he understood what his wife wanted to say. "Why are you talking about this now?"

Narcissa said in a soft voice, "This is my last visit, Lucius."

Lucius was stunned at the implication behind her words. He was trying to wrap his head around this sudden confession.

"Why?" he managed to choke out finally.

"I…have seen a good cause" Narcissa tried to explain. "And I'm willing to see it succeed….whatever may be the cost."

Lucius felt anger bubbling inside him. He honestly wanted to murder whoever started this bloody 'good cause'. He couldn't lose Narcissa, not just like that.

"Narcissa, please" he tried to reason with her, he wanted to reason with her.

"Lucius" she gently interrupted. "It's my own choice Lucius. I always wanted to save a life, and now's my chance."

Lucius wanted to argue, to say anything, but his voice was stuck in his throat.

"And besides" Narcissa humorlessly chuckled, "I've lived way longer than I should have. I should've died eighteen years ago."

It was this sentence which killed Lucius, in the most painful way possible. He knew that tone his wife used, she wouldn't back out of her decision, no matter what.

The silence stretched even longer between them, weighing heavily down on both of them. One had nothing left to say, the other didn't know what to say.

"I'm sorry" Narcissa whispered as she stood up.

"Narcissa, dear" Lucius said. "I…" He trailed off. "I'll miss you."

Narcissa smiled a little. "I'll miss you too, Lucius. Goodbye."

"Goodbye" Lucius mumbled to the retreating figure.
