A/N: I read y'all reviews and I'm so sorry I took so long I promise to update more I'm already working on the next chapter. Thank you all so much.
The council was released from quarantine, so the first thing I did was look for Danny. He was by himself looking at the tapestry that showed all of the Ghost Zone's previous rulers. Danny would be added when he passed away, or when he passed the crown.
"Hey, man."
Danny looked up at me. "Hey."
"I know King's Word is final and all that, and I know that what Paulina did was horrible, but I don't think she should be killed outright."
Danny looked up. "She could have killed Ellie, and for what? Attention? Popularity? None of that is worth the death of my daughter."
"Look, D, I hate Paulina, most everyone does, but we can't kill her. That goes against all your beliefs!"
"Then what do you propose her sentence to be?"
"She gets to live. She lives the rest of her mortal life in the human world, then when she passes, her punishment begins. Give her the chance to better herself. That won't happen if the first thing she does is get pushed into prison or slavery."
Danny looked lost in thought, and I knew better than to mess with him when he's like this. "Has the council left yet?"
"Pletherio and Undergrowth are leaving tonight, everyone else is staying for the execution."
"Call them to the Throne Room, I'll discuss it with the entire council, and the new ruling will be announced to the public afterwards."
_ gathering of the public, no meeting_
"D, I know you're scared, but this is the right decision." I pushed him a little trying to get him into the room.
"I'm not scared. What if this is pointless? She lives another fifty years and is still the same shallow minded girl. It's not enough."
"It's all you can do, sometimes we just gotta keep the faith. I did it with you! And look where we are now. Safe, happy, and home. She deserves that same chance."
Danny looked sad, but his face was changing. He did the last thing I was expecting and started to laugh. He laughed for a while, and when he finally calmed down all he said was, "Tucker, when did you become the smart one?"
"All that time covering for you had to help."
We went into the room and I joined the council, Danny taking the podium.
"It has come to my attention, thanks to my advisors, that my ruling was unfair. When I was crowned I swore to be a king of mercy. I swore we would not have another Scorpio, another Pariah. I gave a ruling that was unjust, a ruling of death upon a child. Which is why I have changed the ruling for Paulina Sanchez."
There was a gasp among the ghosts present and Paulina stood from her chair.
"You will return to the human realm. You will live the rest of your life, learning and growing. You will have the chance to earn an afterlife of joy, instead of one of servitude. You will not return to the Ghost Zone until you are a citizen, and this council will not convene again for your case until then. You're free to go. Dismissed."
Paulina ran from her bench as soon as the barrier was gone, tackling Star. The two were crying and I was happy. Happy she would get a chance to grow up, become someone. Learn to be kind. And more than that, I was proud of Danny. He's grown so much over the years.
The council members seemed to scatter around me, I really feel like they just vanished. Jazz kept a hand on my arm, something I'm always thankful for.
"Jazz!" Danny made his way towards us, I'm not entirely sure if he was floating or walking.
"Pandora sent a ship for all of you to get home, can you round everyone up and tell them to be ready to leave after breakfast?"
"Of course, little brother." Jazz pulled Danny into a hug and he looked so small. He'd outgrown me a while ago, but he was still the kid I've always know. I don't know all the details about their home life from when they were kids. Jack was a decent father but Maddie's always been a bit neglectful. She probably hadn't meant it, but she'd been turned cold from her pursuit of knowledge.
It only got worse as they got older. I never fully realized how much they'd relied on each other.
I joined the hug. "I love you guys."
