"Well," Leia said, "Baby's still growing. It wasn't a false alarm after all."

Jayd wiped her forehead and sighed deeply as she was unhooked from the medical droid.

"I don't know how to feel," she said in a low voice, "I'm…"

"Elated but terrified all at once?" Leia asked with a knowing grin.

"Snoke said my son would be welcome in the First Order," Jayd said, "But only if I used my influence to keep Ben in his power."

"I'll do you one better," Leia said, placing a hand on Jayd's trembling shoulder, "I promise that you and your child have a place in our ranks for as long as you continue to do what's right."

Jayd mustered up a smile.

"Come with me," Leia said, "There's some people I'd like you to meet."

Jayd slid down from the exam table and followed the general.

"It might also interest you to know that Snoke is dead," Leia said as they walked, "My son has taken his place."

Jayd scoffed slightly. "Perhaps that's why my heart has felt so light recently."

"There certainly seems to be more hope in the galaxy," Leia agreed, "We will win this war yet."

The two of them strode through the rebel base until a familiar figure appeared. A girl with brown hair held back from her sun-kissed face, dressed in light clothes.

"Rey," Leia called, "I'd like you to meet someone. This is--"

Rey rushed over. "Jayd," she said with a grin, "I remember."

"You've met?" Leia asked.

"She helped me escape the First Order," Rey explained, beaming.

"Sort of," Jayd added, "Only offered directions."

"And I've never forgotten it," Rey said, taking Jayd's hands in hers for a moment.

"Rey, Jayd is carrying the child of my son, Ben Solo," Leia said.

Rey glanced down with something like fear and disgust.

"But she and I are going to do our best to complete your Jedi training," Leia announced.

"Me?" Jayd asked, taking a step back, "Who am I to teach the Jedi ways?"

"I realize you never finished your training, Jayd," Leia said, "But what you cannot teach, I can."

"I spent years of my life fighting on the other side, general," Jayd said, "I don't think I--"

"My brother had a special place in his heart for you, Jayd," Leia said, "He saw exceptional talent and acceptance of the Force. That sort of understanding doesn't just leave a person."

Jayd sighed. "I don't understand but I will do as you say."

"Good," Leia said with a smirk, "Now, let's continue. There's one more person I want you to meet."

"Good to see you again, Rey," Jayd said quietly.

"It looks as though we'll be seeing a lot more of each other," Rey said with a quick nod.

The two parted ways and Jayd hurried after General Organa. She led her a little further down the path before calling to a nearby fighter.

"Beau, can you come here please?"

The young man looked over and immediately obeyed. He was a lean, pleasant-looking man with dirty-blond hair and steely blue-gray eyes.

"Beau, this is Jayd Warlusk, the one I was telling you about," Leia said, "Jayd, this is Beaumont Kin, one of our best fighters."

"Finally decided to join the winning team, eh?" Beaumont asked with a playful grin, holding out his hand.

Jayd shook it. "Something like that," she replied.

"Well, we could definitely use you," Beau said, "I hate to admit it, but a colonel in the First Order is no small achievement."

"When you're not busy helping me, you'll be helping Beau strategize and prepare for battle," Leia explained to Jayd, "No reason to let all that training go to waste."

"Sure," Jayd agreed.

"I look forward to working with you, Jayd," Beau said with a crooked smile and a wink.

"Alright, you shameless flirt, get back to work," Leia said with a chuckle, nudging his arm.

"Yes, General," Beau said, beaming back at her.

Once he'd gone back to his business and was out of earshot, Leia turned to Jayd.

"See, not everyone here is out for your blood."
