Flying dangerously over the dark, misty sea made Tinker Bell's heart race with panic. She, along with the rest of her friends felt the intense waves of adrenaline fill their bodies as the angry waves of water splashed around them. They focused on following Zarina's lead, determination flickering in their eyes like the rays of the moonlight on the choppy, cold water.
Tinker Bell suddenly gasped as a huge wave nearly crashed into her, but she didn't utter a word as she dodged the impact that could have sent her tumbling down into the sea. She nervously glanced to her right, first at Fawn, then to her left at Silvermist, but both fairies' gazes were locked directly in front of them at Zarina. Wherever Zarina flew, they followed, each as anxious as the next as they neared their destination.
Tinker Bell wasn't entirely sure just how far away Skull Rock was by flight, seeing as the last time they'd traveled there they had journeyed by a pirate ship. It was the same pirate ship that Zarina had captained, in fact, and Tinker Bell remembered that particular day almost as if it were yesterday. Zarina, too, had vivid flashbacks of the last time she had set foot on Skull Rock, and the nearer she knew they came to it, the more her heart thumped like a drum.
The girls flew along, each one of them with their minds full after the crazy recent events that had unfolded. They were worried about their recently cursed friends and the animals back in Pixie Hollow, they were nervous about the fate of their precious Pixie Dust Tree, and they were horribly frightened of what would ultimately happen to Fizzy as she was trapped in Agatha's castle. None of them had ever known anyone whose fairy light went out, and they were sick with worry at what would happen should they fail to find Fizzy in time.
The determined fairies flew on and on into the ebony night until their wings throbbed and ached painfully. Their eyes were equally hurt from squinting through the mist and fog trying to keep Zarina's pale glow in their sight as to not become hopelessly lost at sea. All of a sudden, the thick fog melted away around them, and they saw the huge silhouette of the giant skull materialize in plain sight.
Zarina gasped as she and the girls hovered in front of the gigantic skull, their eyes wide as they panted, trying their best to catch their breaths and still their beating hearts. Zarina was most relieved that she had, in her haste, remembered the location and hadn't just taken them dangerously out into the unknown.
"Hooray!" Silvermist suddenly gasped in joy, wiping her sweaty brow with the back of her hand. "We found it!"
Fawn grinned and grabbed Zarina into a tight hug. "Zarina found it! Oh, great job, Z!"
Tinker Bell tugged on Zarina's sleeve in urgency. "C'mon, you guys! Let's go, already! We need to get to the tree and grab as much pixie dust as we can carry! Who knows how much we'll need to get to Agatha's castle."
Vidia put her finger to her lip. "Speaking of the castle, does anyone have a clue where it could be?" she called after Tinker Bell, as she and Zarina had already started to make their way inside the giant skull's mouth towards the tree.
Rosetta, Fawn, and Silvermist shrugged their shoulders as the rest of their group followed Tinker Bell and Zarina towards the cave. Upon flying inside, they saw the second Pixie Dust tree that Zarina had cleverly grown using bits of her Garden-talent pixie dust she had created. Tinker Bell had energetically flown up and over to the tree, hoping to see the remnants of the dust Zarina had made while using the Blue Pixie Dust to send the slow, gentle flow of the dust from a trickle to a roar.
As they flew closer, Tinker Bell and Zarina gasped in shock as they landed on the rickety platform the pirates had built around the tree. Zarina had, admittedly, expected to see the tree had been able to sustain the dust it had made while she had been attending it. But alas, after looking deep down into where the dust should have been, the fairies were disheartened to see that there was absolutely no speck of dust left. Not a single smidgen.
Zarina was utterly flabbergasted as she flew to the tree and took a closer, confused look. "But…but this just can't be!" she bellowed, looking from one heartbroken face of her friends to the next. "I…when I left the tree before we came back to Pixie Hollow, there should have still been pixie dust inside of the pool at the bottom! No…no other fairies but us would have even known it existed! And with our own pixie dust tree in Pixie Hollow, nobody would have even needed it!"
Iridesssa gulped, loudly. "And..and the p-p-pirates?"
Zarina shook her head, sadly. "None of those scallywags would have enough sense to come back here and try. And if they had used it for plundering around Neverland, we would have known about it."
Fawn frowned, and her voice shook as she spoke. "Then….then what happened to it?"
Zarina slowly sank to her knees. "I don't...I don't know," she mumbled, staring up at her friends in pure shock and disbelief at what had become of her beloved home-grown pixie dust tree. "I...I really counted that our extra tree would've been able to give us the pixie dust we needed!"
"But, you didn't count on us, did you?" said a deep voice from behind them.
In an instant, before anyone could move, Shadow, Dusk, Nyx, and Fury had appeared above them, followed by Midnight, who squawked in amusement when he saw the terrified looks of the girls' faces.
"You..." began Tinker Bell, angrily balling her fists up as she slowly flew up into the air.
Midnight squawked again in warning, and Iridessa gently tugged Tinker Bell back down to their level. "Don't try anything funny, Tink," she whispered, urgently.
Tinker Bell gripped Iridessa's hand, gulped, and nodded, knowing full well that she probably shouldn't be making any sudden movements if she wanted to see another day.
Shadow and Dusk sneered at the girls, while Nyx and Fury held their weapons up like a protective wall around any means of escape they could have tried.
"Well, well, well," said Dusk with a laugh. "Just what do you fairies think you're doing here?"
Rosetta flipped her hair, clearly not at all as scared as the others were. "Wouldn't you like to know?"
Fury narrowed her gray, cursed eyes. "We would like to know why you thought you could simply sneak away without us catching you," she growled.
Vidia grinned. "Well, but we didn't do half bad, now did we?"
Shadow smiled, too, which made the girls feel uneasy. "And did you achieve what you wanted by sneaking out here?" He was met with silence, which only made him laugh. "Aha," he continued, flying closer to them. "I see that you didn't find what you were looking for, hm?"
Tinker Bell felt her jaw tighten, and she stammered as she spoke. "H-how did you know...how did you know a-about-"
"How did we know about your second Pixie Dust tree?" Dusk interrupted. "Queen Agatha knows everything about Pixie Hollow. You really didn't think she would allow one Pixie Dust tree to survive, now did you?"
Fawn glared at him. "Just because Agatha may have cursed this tree, too, doesn't mean we won't stop her another way!"
Shadow flew closer to Fawn, grabbed her shirt, and pulled her close to his face. "Oh, really? I think you need your giggly little friend Fizzy for that, don't you? But look, she's not here, is she?" He suddenly started to snicker before he spoke. "She was so easy to kidnap, you know. It was like taking candy from a baby! She's supposed to be this all-powerful fairy who could defeat our Queen, but she's nothing more than a tiny little fairy who's silly, scared, and weak! We'd snatch her ten more times if we could...just for the fun of it!"
Dusk matched Shadow's evil grin as he chuckled. "We were hiding in the bushes right behind you!" he said, nodding towards Tinker Bell. "And you still didn't hear us!" He shrugged his shoulders. "Granted, Fizzy couldn't speak anyway." He held up his hand and wiggled his fingers mockingly. "No matter how much she tried to scream and cry for help." He stared at Tinker Bell. "And you know what? You could have saved her! All you had to do was turn around and you could have seen us. But, you didn't!"
Shadow released Fawn, who flew next to Tinker Bell and wiped her eyes with the back of her hand as she felt a few tears form in her eyes from the mocking tone of Shadow's words. She took Tinker Bell's hand in hers and squeezed it, knowing Tinker Bell was on the verge of tears, too. The two Dark Fairies' cruel words stung like beestings the more they listened to them.
"And now, she's trapped in Agatha's castle on an island...in the Realm of Darkness," Dusk added. "And that's where she'll stay!"
Vidia's eyes gleamed in fury. "And just where is the Realm of Darkness?"
Shadow flew over to Vidia next, his eyes just as strong as Vidia's were. "The Realm of Darkness lies as far south from Neverland you can get, where even the sun refuses to shine. Your friend lies trapped in the castle that can never be found by those who wish to find it. There, in the hidden Nightmare Castle, your adorable little friend awaits her final fate. A fate that every fairy dreads - when their light will go out, forever."
Dusk's mouth broke into a grin. "How does it feel, fairies, to know that while you're here, your sweet little friend is trapped there, alone and scared as she slowly withers away into nothing? How does it feel to know that she'll soon be gone, and there's nothing you can do about it?"
The girls all felt a strong chill sweep through their bodies upon hearing the awful words Shadow and Dust spoke, but Tinker Bell could no longer contain herself as she dropped Fawn's hand and flew aggressively towards Shadow and Dusk, her fists angrily clenched and her entire face red with fury.
"Don't you dare-" Tinker Bell began, before Fury and Nyx jabbed their sharp poles at her, stopping her before she flew any closer.
"You better calm down, Tinker Bell," said Nyx, her voice almost as if it was in a daze. Her dark gray eyes fixed on her as she poked her with the end of her sharp pole, causing Tinker Bell to flinch in pain.
"Nyx!" Fawn burst out, coming close to Tinker Bell, protectively. "Snap out of it, already!"
Shadow and Dusk chuckled as Fawn and Tinker bell slowly sunk down to rejoin the rest of their wide-eyed friends.
"There's no snapping out of it, you ignorant little fairy," said Dusk. "Once Agatha uses the Black Pixie Dust to curse you, that's it...you're cursed forever!" He paused a second, a smile forming on his face. "In fact, I bet she would be most happy to share it with all of you."
Midnight suddenly squawked loudly, startling the girls so much that they huddled together in a tight group. In an instant, before they could move a muscle, Shadow threw a bit of Black Pixie Dust into the air, and a brown twine-netted cage with a hard bottom appeared out of thin air. Midnight grabbed it in his talons and scooped up the unsuspecting fairies in a heap.
"Oh, Agatha will surely be pleased to see our latest catch, won't she?" said Shadow, glancing at Nyx and Fury, who grinned along with him.
The poor fairies held onto each other for dear life as they were brought back towards Pixie Hollow, nervous in the realization that Agatha now had them all exactly where she wanted them. Their hopes of rescuing Fizzy now seemed bleaker than ever, and they had no idea what would become of them once they were brought back to the Queen of Darkness.
