Corona 2
It was a peaceful day in Corona, with clear skies all around. Birds chirped, children played, and Princess Rapunzel…
Well, she played too.
"Come on, Eugene! We're going to be late for the party!" the spunky girl whined, dragging her husband behind her with an unnatural strength.
"Jeez Blondie! You don't have to tear my arm off," Prince Eugene shot back, digging his heels into the ground. Not that it did any good; his wife was far stronger than normal women were.
She looked back at him, witnessing his teeth grit in pain, and gasped. "Oh Eugene, I'm so sorry! You know I don't know my own strength," she apologized, slowing down.
Eugene chuckled, supporting himself with hands on his knees as he took a breath. "Kinda wish I had magical powers too so I could keep up with you," he joked.
"And what would yours be? The ability to run more than a hundred meters before getting tired?" the brown haired girl teased.
Eugene sent her a look that could wilt flowers. "Very funny, Blondie."
"You know, there is a type of Magic you could learn," she said coyly.
His eyebrows shot up. "Really?"
Rapunzel slowly approached him, pressing her body into his. "Yeah, really."
Eugene gulped. "And what would that be?"
She moved her mouth over his ear, letting her warm breath drive him crazy. "Exercise," she whispered, then jumped away giggling.
His face fell. "You're mean," he complained.
Rapunzel was about to tease him more when a loud boom of thunder interrupted her. She looked up to the sky, instantly becoming confused.
"What was that?" Eugene asked, joining her in staring at the cloudless sky.
"I don't know," Rapunzel said, searching the light blue expanse. "It sounded like thunder, but I don't see any clouds."
"Me neither," Eugene agreed, scratching his head. "Maybe the Navy were testing a cannon?"
Rapunzel shook her head. "No, this was thunder. Cannons are much quieter than that," she mumbled, still scanning the sky. "Wait! What's that?" she asked, pointing at a black dot high above Corona.
Eugene held a hand up above his eyes, trying to see whatever his wife had seen. "I don't see anyth-" he started, before his eyes locked on to a black object in the sky.
A black object that was getting bigger. Which meant it was getting closer.
"Uh, Blondie? Whatever that is, it's coming here," he said cautiously, placing an arm around his wife's shoulders protectively.
"You sure?" Rapunzel asked, but her breath caught in her throat as the object started getting bigger much faster.
"Oh yeah, really sure!" Eugene yelled, grabbing his wife and running towards the castle. "And it's gonna get here fast!"

"Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the City of Corona. Please keep your hands in the air and seatbelts on until we come to a full and complete stop," Arianna said, projecting her voice around the cabin.
"Woah!" Anna breathed out, pressing her face against the window. "This view is amazing! I want to fly more!"
Arianna glanced at her twin, seeing the bird's eye view of the beautiful island with a castle on top, and sighed in content. "Yeah, it is actually kind of pretty. Maybe I could have Ignis build you a smaller one of these for yourself, Anna," she offered.
That idea was promptly shut down by shouts of "NO!" around the cabin.
Anna looked back at her sister and boyfriend with a hurt face. "Come on, guys," she whined, "I want a jet!"
Elsa looked at her with pity. "Anna, you can barely ride a horse," she stated.
Anna just shrugged, pointing at her twin. "Ari will teach me how to fly. Right, little sister?"
Arianna's eyes flared. "LITTLE sister?!" she shrieked, "If anything you're the younger one!"
Anna smirked. "Nope. I'm over two hundred years older than you," she reasoned.
"Why you-" Arianna fumed, about to take her hands off the steering apparatus. Her attempt at roughhousing Anna would have to wait, however, because the ship's AI started talking.
"Warning: Multiple magical signatures detected. Primary signature is Class 12," the female voice said in monotone.
"Warning? What do you mean warning? And there's magic here?" Elsa asked, beginning to panic.
"Hold up on the meltdown, Elsa," Arianna said, turning her chair back to flying. "Bring up sensor readings of the strongest signature, please," she asked the ship
Everyone except Arianna gasped when an image of Rapunzel running through the streets with Eugene appeared on the screen in front of her face.
"Class 12 Magic signature detected," the ship repeated. "Expected abilities: low pyrokinesis, high level healing, resurrection, creation of life, standard invulnerability. Other properties detected under Shadow Criteria."
"You're saying our cousin Rapunzel has magic powers?" Anna asked.
"That appears to be the case," her twin responded, "and the sensors think she's about equal in power to us, given we are also Class 12."
"That seems like too much of a coincidence," Kristoff commented.
Arianna's eyes narrowed, staring at the Coronan couple. "It is. There is more to this story, I sense. It's possible the Shadow Criteria will reveal why. I'll review them later."
"What exactly are these 'Shadow Criteria', Arianna?" Elsa asked flatly, not remotely amused.
Arianna waved a hand downwards, the image of Rapunzel sliding off the screen. "Things for my eyes only."
"Who are you to decide what I get to see?" Elsa seethed.
Arianna grimaced. "Don't pry into this, Elsa" she warned.
"Tell. Me," Elsa demanded, the air in the cabin taking on a chill.
"Come on guys, don't do this," Anna pleaded.
"Be quiet, Anna," Elsa commanded, ignoring her sister's gasp of protest. She leveled her best death glare on Arianna, speaking quite flatly. "As Queen of Arendelle, I hereby command you to inform me what these 'Shadow Criteria' contain, Protector," she seethed.
Arianna drew in a tense breath, slowly, then exhaled. "Fine. But Elsa goes on record as asking for this," she stated. Anna's twin spun around in her chair, glaring at her sister, she who had just commanded her with Queen-level authority.
It was authority she was going to have to ignore in this instance.
The temperature shot back up, past it's resting point; everyone could feel the heat radiating off her.
"I'm going to have to disobey you, my Queen," Arianna started. Elsa sputtered with rage, but she just held up a hand and continued. "There are many reasons why I must do so, but most importantly is that complying with your request could endanger the world, a danger which supersedes your authority over me in any and all circumstances," she explained.
Elsa growled, her glare becoming almost feral. "What."
With a deep breath, the Protector continued the tirade. "I am the only being on this planet capable of counteracting your powers directly, Elsa. Ignis isn't powerful enough. Anna can help, both with love and her own power, but there are times that my fire must control your ice. You are not a bad person, but you are emotionallydamaged, and you sometimes have no control over some extremely powerful magic. You killed Anna, and you very nearly killed Kristoff. You would have succeeded if I hadn't stopped you. You tried to flat out kill me the first time we met, remember? Moreover, you turned the dead middle of summer into a winter storm and it kept going without your input or further control once started. This for reference is a storm you started because you were mildly afraid!"
Elsa collapsed back into her chair with a sigh. "But-" she tried to defend herself. The Protector merely kept talking.
"Elsa. Don't. You have to hear this. Anna and I, we have control of our emotions, our powers: you don't. Until that changes, or you grow up and stop having emotional outbursts, there is information you cannot be told, for the safety of the entire human race, much less yourself or our family. Imagine if something I told you set off your magic again? Maybe even on a higher level? You could bring the Earth itself under a new Ice Age. I am the Protector of Arendelle, yes, but I'm the Protector of the Royal Family first and foremost. Even if I have to defend it from itself," Arianna told Elsa in a clipped tone.
Nobody else in the cabin spoke. They barely dared to breathe. Elsa's eyes were wide, her mouth open, and the beginnings of glistening tears could be seen under her eyelids.
Arianna scowled. "I warned you," she shrugged, turning her chair back to face the approaching castle. Thankfully, it seemed the confrontation was over, since the temperature returned to normal, and didn't slide into the cold again.
Anna touched her sister lightly on the arm, trying to come across as supportive. "Elsa?"
The Queen took in a deep, staggered breath, her whole body shuddering with repressed sobs. "I'm okay, Anna," she assured, more for herself than her sister.
"You sure? That was brutal," the redhead growled, glaring at her twin.
Arianna shrugged again. "I warned her," she said again, like it excused anything.
Anna clenched her fists, face red with rage.
"Anna, don't-" Elsa tried.
"That doesn't give you the right to drag our sister through the mud like that!" Anna snapped, ignoring her. She was truly angry, probably for the first time in her life.
Arianna sighed, clicking a button on the steering apparatus marked 'Autopilot'. She spun to face both her sisters directly, hands clasped above her knees. "I have every right, Anna," she argued, "Hell, so do you. Everyone in Arendelle does. Yes, Elsa is our sister, and an amazing Queen. But this is a part of her we all have to deal with. We have to help her work through whatever is causing this. Together. Ignoring problems doesn't make them go away, no matter how much your naive heart believes that."
"You arrogant bit-" Anna started, cut off by Elsa's cold hand on her arm.
"No, Anna. Ari is right," Elsa said, eyes red with silent tears. "I… I am a danger. To the world, to Arendelle, but most of all to you. Ari has the sense to contain me when I'm too far gone. You don't. That's a part of you I'm so grateful you have, but…" she trailed off.
"What are you saying?" Anna asked, shocked.
Elsa sighed. "Even if I don't like it… Ari can protect everyone, especially you, from me. If, or… when, it's necessary," she finished, sending a thankful glance the twin's way.
"But Elsa," Anna protested.
"No, Anna. We all have to learn to live with… my broken state," Elsa said, choking up at the end. "I need your love and support just as much as I need Ari's filtering and control."
The two mature sisters shared a look, nodding slowly to one another. It was lost on Anna, but her twin understood, and turned back to piloting.
Anna huffed, crossing her arms. "What she said was still mean," came the weak reasoning.
"I'm mean when I have to be, Anna," Arianna said, looking straight ahead. She smiled at what she saw.
"Right now, though, I don't have to be. We're here. Time to meet the relatives."

"What the hell is that thing?" Eugene cried out, having returned to being dragged through the air by his arm again.
"No idea!" Rapunzel declared, turning the final corner of the path up to the castle gates, "but it's headed for the castle!"
Eugene blew air out of the side of his mouth, looking bored. "You could stop treating me like a kite, you know!"
"Sorry, no time," Rapunzel replied, but she did slow down. They had reached the castle gates, and the black object had come to a stop above them.
Eugene got back on his feet, placing a hand above his eyes to block the sun. "Seriously, what is this? I think it's been following us," he asked again.
His wife was about to reply, but a loud voice from the object cut her off. "Very astute, Eugene. Mind leading us to a place to park?"
Eugene's mouth dropped open. Rapunzel gathered herself into a presentable fashion, for her anyways, and took control of the situation. "Who are you?" she called up to the object.
"Well, I know you were told we were going to get here in a week, but… I decided to try out my new ride instead," the voice said with a chuckle.
"A week?" Rapunzel whispered to herself. Two seconds later she got it.
"Elsa?" she asked, not quite believing it.
The voice sounded almost hurt. "You really think Elsa could fly this thing?" it asked. Sounds of a scuffle were heard and the object bobbed and weaved through the air a bit before stabilizing. "Ow, Elsa! No icing my back! You'll knock us out of the air!"
A different voice, Elsa, Rapunzel recognized, came out of the object. "Hello cousin. I apologize for the early arrival, but the Protector sprung this on me at the last moment," she apologized.
Rapunzel blinked in utter puzzlement. "How come I can hear both of your voices from this… object?"
The original voice came back on, with some muffled grunting from Elsa. "Object? Don't insult my baby like that," the voice complained. "This sweet ride is a ramjet!"
"What's a ramjet?" Eugene and Rapunzel asked in harmony.
The voice sighed. "Just show us to a flat area big enough for this thing to land on. I'll explain then."
Eugene looked to his wife. "It's your call, Blondie."
Rapunzel eyed the 'ramjet' for several more seconds before waving for it to follow them. "I think I know just the place," she smirked.
-LB-
Rapunzel guided them to an area at the back of the castle, usually reserved for guard training. It was the biggest flat area accessible to the sky she could think of.
"We're here!" she said, projecting her voice up to the 'ramjet'.
"Alright," the voice from earlier said, "Please stand away from the orange lines."
"What orange lines?" Eugene asked, right before bright lights on the underside of the object shone upon the ground. They traced a rectangle out of orange lines, with a giant letter X in the middle. One of the sides just happened to be painted across the Prince's chest.
"Oh. Those lines," he said, jumping out of the way.
"Beginning descent," the object announced, in a new voice. It sounded… fake, to Rapunzel. Not quite human.
The 'ramjet' turned in the air, aligning the side with longer structures toward them. It began to move downwards, slowly decreasing the distance between itself and the ground. When it had passed below the high castle walls a furious, hot wind erupted out of nowhere, blasting Rapunzel's hair backwards, and causing her husband to stumble. Moments later the object touched the ground, several sticks with round things on them taking the brunt of the impact with a loud squeal. The lights on the underside shut off and the orange lines disappeared.
The two standing royals, plus the various guards that had joined them, stared dumbfoundedly at the object.
"Now what?" Eugene asked.
Suddenly, as if in response to his question, the back of the object popped open with a loud hiss, and the entire back wall began swiveling downwards until it touched the paving stones with a loud clunk. Rapunzel got to see the inside of the object for the first time. More importantly, she got to see who was inside.
"Cousins!" she cried out, running into the craft and tackling Anna in a tight hug.
"Oof," the princess groaned, steadying herself. "Hey Rapunzel. Long time no see."
Rapunzel withdrew from the hug, holding Anna's shoulders tightly with excitement. "No kidding! The last time was when your sister froze over Arendelle!" she rambled on, not noticing the sharp intake of icy breath from behind her.
Anna did though. "Uh, Punzie…" she said, tapping her cousin on the shoulder, and pointing at Elsa.
Rapunzel froze up, turning around with a sheepish smile. "Oops. Uh, hi there, Elsa," she said, half smiling.
"Rapunzel," Elsa replied. Coldly.
"Heh," the princess of Corona said, then tackled her other cousin in a hug. One that was not remotely expected.
"Ra.. Rapunzel!" Elsa shrieked, falling to the floor. She did not have the strength of her sisters or cousin.
"Easy there, Blondie," Eugene said, pulling his wife off the Queen. "No need to upset Her Icefulness."
Elsa glared at him, materializing a small block of ice inside his shirt.
"Yoww! Not cool, Elsa!" he shrieked, dancing around inside the craft. Kristoff laughed at his expense, receiving a glare from the ex thief.
Rapunzel heard two sets of near identical giggling from behind her, so got up and intended to ask Anna how she was duplicating her voice like that. Her mouth dropped open when instead of seeing one Anna, she saw two.
"Why am I seeing two Annas?" the confused princess asked.
The second Anna, the one with darker hair, Rapunzel noticed, walked forward and extended a hand to shake. "Greetings Rapunzel," she said, "I am the Protector."
Rapunzel hesitantly accepted the handshake, looking between the two near identical women. "Why do you look like Anna?"
She sighed, dropping her hand. "It's a long story, but suffice it to say, I'm Anna's long lost twin sister," she explained. "My name is Arianna."
"Arianna? Doesn't that mean-" Eugene started to ask, but she cut him off with a groan.
"Yes, yes, it means Not Anna. Get your jokes out now, though I warn you, I've heard them all," she griped.
Eugene crossed his arms, smirking. "In that case I'll have to decline your offer. A comedian is only as good as his jokes."
The Protector smiled. "Alright then. Before we leave the jet, I have a gift for Rapunzel," she said.
Rapunzel's eyes lit up. "Ooh! What gift?"
"You see the necklaces Anna, Elsa, and I are wearing?" she asked, turning to the wall of the craft.
"Yeah. They're pretty," the princess responded.
Arianna smirked, placing her hand inside an alcove that had appeared in the wall. "While they are indeed nice to look at, that is not their primary function. Elsa, if you would demonstrate on Anna, please?"
"I will not fire on my own sister! I don't care how protected she is," Elsa protested.
"Protected? Fire on? What, you mean with ice?" Eugene asked, confused.
Arianna sighed, holding up her other hand. "Yeah, with ice. Seems she doesn't want to though, so I'll have to… turn up the heat."
Rapunzel recognized a pun when she heard one, though she wasn't aware of why it was a pun.
She got it when a ball of fire exploded into existence above the Protector's palm.
"Holy crap!" Eugene cried out, jumping backwards.
Rapunzel's mouth dropped open. "You have magic too?" she asked in surprise.
"Yep," Arianna replied, and threw the fireball at Anna.
"No!" Rapunzel said, starting forward to get in the way. She didn't even get close, but Anna was saved regardless.
The pendant around her neck started to glow a light blue, emitting a bright flare of light. Some kind of transparent bubble appeared around her, and the fireball impacted it with a bang, the bubble flaring with the same blue light at the contact point.
Eugene joined his wife in jaw-dropped wonder.
Arianna turned back to the wall, pressing several orange glowing squares. An orange glow flared from the hole in the wall, accompanied by a small hum, and several seconds later she withdrew her hand. Held in it was another necklace, identical to the ones the three from Arendelle were wearing, except for being yellow in color.
Rapunzel gasped. "That's for me?"
The Protector nodded, placing it in her outstretched hand. "These aren't really necklaces, they just look like them. They are defense units, designed to do one thing above all else; protect the wearer."
Rapunzel hesitantly touched the face of the necklace, marvelling in the sensation of heat it imparted to her fingertips. "Why give me one?" she asked.
Arianna smiled, gesturing to her sisters. "Well, my official title is Protector of Arendelle. My job is protecting the Royal Family. As our cousin, you fall under that umbrella. I'll be providing one of these for Eugene, along with your mother and father, though they unfortunately won't be as powerful," she explained.
Rapunzel nodded silently, still stroking the necklace. She barely noticed the small orb at the center flared slightly brighter every time her fingers traced over it.
"How exactly do they work? Are they magic?" Eugene inquired.
Arianna tilted her head. "Sort of. They have three different systems inside. One is magical, another is based on technology, and the third is a hybrid of the two. Alone, one system would be capable of handling anything the world can throw at the wearer. All three combined, well…" she trailed off.
"Ah. I notice you said officially that your job is protecting the Royal Family. What's the real reason?" Eugene guessed.
All three sisters glanced at each other, clearly having a silent conversation.
"Please tell us, guys?" Rapunzel pleaded.
Anna turned to her and grimaced. "Well, uh…" she tried, gulping.
"You're an, uh, well…" Elsa followed up.
"You see, you have some, uh… things…" Kristoff mumbled.
"Oh for existence's sake," Arianna griped, crossing her arms. "The reason I'm doing this is to protect those like us, and their families, from unsavory elements of the world."
"Those like you?" Eugene asked, confused.
Arianna sighed, holding up a hand. Another fireball burst into existence. Elsa followed her with a snowflake above hers. What shocked Rapunzel the most, though, was when Anna continued the chain. She drew water out of several vials on her belt and manifested an undulating nimbus of rings of lightly glowing liquid above her palm.
Eugene looked at each of them, eyes wide. "You're… you're all…"
Arianna looked directly at Rapunzel, staring her down. "Not just us."
The Princess' eyes grew wide, and the Coronan royals froze in place.
When he finally got his breath back, Eugene laughed nervously. "What, Blondie? Magical? She's… she's not…" he tried to protest.
Arianna lowered her palm, glaring at him. The fireball fizzled out, and her sisters took the cue to lower their own hands. "Please, Eugene. I detected her energy signature on the way in," she declared. "We are all aware of Rapunzel's magic, probably far more than you are. I know for a fact she can heal, including bring people back to life. I imagine you also know that, but she likely has some of my powers as well."
"Your powers? Excuse me? And even if this is true, how did you find out?" Rapunzel asked.
Arianna gestured to the 'ramjet'. "My ship has sensors capable of detecting and discerning the abilities of magical individuals. You should have a small level of pyrokinesis. Which means fire, basically, though it's probably only heat with you," she explained.
"I'm not sure what to say," Rapunzel responded warily.
Arianna grinned. "Hey, we're all together in this. Us in Arendelle are considerably more knowledgeable about magic these days. We're here for you, whenever you want to talk about it," she assured the princess, patting her on the shoulder. Giving a smaller smile, she walked out of the craft.
"She really means that?"
Anna abruptly hugged her. "We all do. Even Elsa," she said, giggling at the Queen's scowl.
"Just leave me out of the super lovey dovey stuff, okay?" Elsa requested.
Rapunzel nodded. "Okay," she said, and gently placed the necklace on her neck.
For the first time in forever, she felt truly home.

Arianna slammed open the door to the study of the Queen and King of Corona. She was immensely pissed after reviewing the results of the DNA scan and had a bone to pick with the royals. Thankfully they were both in the study at that time or she would have had to go looking for them.
The King saw her first. He was about to give her a greeting when he noticed the angered look on her face. His own expression grew dim. "What has occurred, Arianna?"
The Queen turned around at his speech to greet her as well. She had a similar reaction to her face.
Arianna scowled at both of them. "Did you know?" she asked.
Both royals were confused. "Know what? It must be something important for it to affect you this way," the Queen commented.
Arianna growled at that. "Oh it's important alright. But neither of you answered my question. Did. You. Know?"
The King, despite being used to her ways by now, was clearly disturbed at being spoken to that way. "You are obviously accusing us of something. Speak clearly and fully," he demanded.
Arianna took in a deep breath before she continued. "Fine. How many children do you two have?"
The King was even more confused at that. "Rapunzel is my only child."
The Queen on the other hand was not remotely confused. Her face said everything her words would not. "How?" she whispered.
The King's head swiveled back around so fast it was a wonder it didn't fall off.
Arianna tapped her right gauntlet twice. "DNA Scan. I can compare the genetic code of individuals to see any similarities. Generally a ninety percent match to another shows direct familial relation," she explained, glaring at the royals, "like what I found when I compared you two, Rapunzel, and ELSA."
The poor King was going to get whiplash if he kept doing that. "What?!" he hissed.
Arianna raised her eyebrows. "Well it's clear you didn't know. Your wife, however, has some explaining to do," she stated, glaring at the Queen. "Go on. I'm dying to hear what could have possibly justified you sending your daughter to live with people completely ignorant of magic."
The Queen gulped as she took in the rage of her husband and sister's daughter. "Wh… When Rapunzel was taken by that witch, I knew something was wrong. Elsa didn't seem like she had any power, but her hair was so white… I was worried others would try to take her too. I sent her to live with my sister, your mother, so that none would suspect. It broke my heart, but it was the only way to keep her safe," she explained with a whispering tone.
The King could never stay mad at his wife. "Then why do I not remember her?" he asked. Arianna thought this was a weakness, but she sighed anyways.
"Let me guess," she grumbled, "living rocks with no sense of shame, terrible singing and a penchant for memory modification?"
The Queen's eyes widened, but she nodded. "I see you've met them."
"Met them, got sick of them in about thirty seconds, threatened to turn their clearing to lava if they didn't stop trying to get me to marry Adrian," she lamented. "However that's not the first time they've been involved with us over in Norway. I realize you did this to Elsa to save her, but you only made her life worse. And by extension, you tortured Anna in the process," she finished with a growl.
The Queen choked on air. "What?"
Arianna chuckled darkly. "I see they didn't tell you. Well, here's the thing. When a magical being of our caliber forms close familial bonds, even if they aren't based exclusively on blood, we tend to… kickstart any latent magical ability in the bonded. Especially if that other is actively affected and exposed to our magic. They tend to develop power that is polar opposite to our own, to restore the balance," she stated.
The Queen's blood ran cold, her face white. "Anna…?"
Arianna nodded despite the poor King's confusion. "I take it they told you about that, at least. I have many unresolved issues with my parents, not the smallest of which is the fact they told Pabbie to extract the burgeoning magic young Anna had begun to develop. Had they not been so hasty, her own fire would have counteracted the power of Elsa's ice in time. She would have counterbalanced Elsa's unstable fear based ice with love based fire. Elsa never would have set off the Eternal Winter. Anna's heart never would have been struck. Elsa wouldn't have had to witness her sister freeze solid by her own hands!" Arianna yelled.
Before either Royal could speak, she continued. "I've had words with Pabbie already about this, but it was not his decision," she explained. With a deadly glare she pinned the Queen's stricken face. "Your lovely sister and her husband tore a part of their own daughter's soul away just to keep Elsa and your secret safe. After that they were isolated from one another and left like that, with hopelessly outgunned people trying to help Elsa, and failing, for over fifteen years. Then, when things are finally looking up for those two, their parents die on the way to your daughter's wedding. Three years later, the Coronation."
Arianna's eyes momentarily glowed in rage. "Anna is still recovering her relationship with who she believes to be her sister. I healed the hole left behind in her soul when I saved her life, but there are magical scars that will never truly heal, especially given that the magic she was originally supposed to have runs through my own veins. She will never regain the amount of power she was supposed to have. What she can do now is a mockery of what she could have become. The… power I used to save her life is a blend of her original power over fire and Elsa's power over ice. It's not perfect, but it's working. Elsa, the daughter you tried to help with all this crap, is severely emotionally damaged at a scale I've never seen before. She still flinches every time she uses her power near Anna. I sometimes have to break into her room through an iced over door to wake her up from her nightmares. Kristoff tells me Anna sometimes feels like she's freezing solid again whenever it gets a little chilly. I'm technically the only one stable enough for the magic of the Crown of Arendelle to recognize at the moment. Elsa wasn't eligible until we both saved Anna. In fact, because Elsa's magic was half the power given to her, she's been magically adopted into the Arendelle Royal family. She's more my sister than your daughter, now that I think of it…" she trailed off.
The King looked like he was about to kill his wife. "How is that possible?" he growled.
Arianna sneered at him. "When your Queen here sent Elsa away, your own family magic assumed she was in exile. At that point, any family magic could claim her. Thankfully the workings of this stuff has been lost to most people, so she wasn't inducted into any other magical families. This, for reference, puts the inducted member in slave like magical bindings. That would have been incredibly bad for the world, much less Elsa herself. My sister is… incredibly powerful. She could probably, with the right training and magical impetus, freeze over the entire planet."
The King's eyes were wide as dinner plates, his mouth a gaping portal to his stomach. "My god," he exclaimed.
She nodded at him. "The only being in existence capable of preventing that is me. I only discovered all this when an immortal, sentient crown on Elsa's head started chatting me up," she snorted.
The King glared at his wife momentarily before he looked at Arianna again. "Please continue."
She nodded tersely. "As of right now only you two, the Crown itself, and I know. Anna would be in line before me, but she still has to heal her soul to an acceptable level. I'm not interested in ruling, the Crown knows this, and as I'm technically the Queen, it followed my orders to let Elsa rule in my or Anna's stead."
She turned around and opened the door in preparation to leave. "All this for fear of a woman who didn't actually have any power of her own and at most happened to get past your crappy guards with basic climbing skills," she sneered.
The King was gobsmacked. The Queen was sitting with wide eyes, tears flowing and horror etched into her face.
"Congratulations. I hope you're proud of yourselves. Oh, and if you two don't tell Elsa and Rapunzel their true relationship soon, I will. I can guarantee it won't be pretty, and I will not protect you. Hell, I'll probably be first in line to help them freeze, burn, and vaporize this castle to the ground. Buck up the courage to own up and actually act like real parents and I might just save you from their wrath."
With that she slammed the door shut, hard.
"Harold," the Queen whispered, "what have I done?"
