Angering the already hot-headed petite Captain was probably one of the dumbest things Kana had ever done. Trying to run was right up there too. Kana's left arm hung uselessly at her side, the shoulder dislocated and fingers turning darker with every passing moment. Yoruichi may have taught Kana a couple tricks and tips on how to strike fast and run faster, but she had also taught Soi Fon the same thing. The only difference is what Kana had tried to learn in weeks, Soi Fon had learned in centuries and had had decades to master them, and it showed. While Kana had been extremely lucky in managing to keep ahead and surprising Soi Fon with sudden turns, even blowing right past her at one point, every time Soi Fon caught up to her all it took was a single hit or kick and another part of Kana was broken and bruised and slowing her down. Her entire left arm, her left ribs, her right knee, they were all either throbbing with pain or had gone numb.
Add lower back to that list as well, as Soi Fon's foot made a solid implant and Kana found herself flying forwards again, fumbling to catch herself and failing. She skidded across a few rooftops from landing on the ground with a crunch that told her her hip was now ruined as well. Before she could even think about getting up, there was a foot pressing hard on the side of he head, grinding her face into the ground.
"I won't ask how you know of Yoruichi-sama,"
Her foot pressed harder and Kana growled and slowly pulled her right arm closer into her body. With Arashi she might be able to strike Soi Fon long enough to stun her and get away.
"Just know that if you dare utter her name again you won't have a chance to see your fate with the Central 46 as I will kill you myself." Kana cackled lowly, fingers wrapping around her Zanpakuto's hilt. The sky grew darker and thunder clouds slowly started to roll in as Kana pulled her reiatsu tight to herself.
"S-Shame. Here I was hoping we'd just be the best of friends." She laughed, it cutting off with a strange gurgle as Soi Fon lifted her foot to stop again on Kana's head. She spat dirt from her mouth and grinned as Arashi slid from his sheath.
"Kogeki, Arashi no Kami!" Kana twisted as she released her zanpakuto, the blade curling into a whip and snapping towards Soi Fon leg. The Captain leapt backwards with a fierce scowl, Arashi missing her leg by mere centimeters and instead brushing against the tip of her foot. Lightning sparked and when Soi Fon landed her leg almost gave out from under her. It surprised her just enough to allow Kana to stand, wiping blood from her cheek and grinning at the shorter woman.
"I see. So you finally choose to fight instead of running like a coward." Soi Fon stated, her left food sliding backwards and her arms raising in a fairly standard hand-to-hand combat pose. It had been made obvious to Kana that hand-to-hand was her strong suit, and with her speed and the force of her blows Kana knew if she took her head on she'd be dead before she could land a single strike. How Soi Fon planned on beating her while Kana had a long range weapon was a mystery to her, but she supposed Soi Fon thought she was too fast for Kana to be able to land any attacks before the Captain was in close range and raining blows. Kana's defense was also near non-existent in this form, but if she stayed on the offense that would be fine.
"Well, to be honest, I was hoping you'd get upset over my Yoruichi comments, sense she was in the Seireitei and leave me alone to go catch her." Kana grinned as she raised Arashi overhead, thunder rumbling right on top of them and shaking her very core, and suddenly her injuries didn't seem so bad any more. Soi Fon's reiatsu flared and Kana raised Arashi over head, ready for an attack but the Captain stayed locked in place. Kana smirked as she realized Soi Fon was searching for something. Judging from the look on her face, she had found it.
"Ya see?" Kana started snapping Arashi in Soi Fon's direction, and although she didn't land a single blow it kept the shorter woman from getting any closer.
"Yourichi must not have been as fond of you as you had thought, considering she never came back for you and yet here she is. With some random Ryoka." Kana laughed at Soi Fon's slip up from her anger, Arashi sliding against her left leg. A thin wound opened and it started oozing blood, but the more damaging part was the jerking motions of the muscle as they were shocked. Now was Kana's chance to run!
But then again, she had always been one for making people lose their cool.
"How needy were you, little bee, that Yoruichi didn't even try to come back to you? How much did you disappoint her?" Something Yoruichi had mentioned during their training came to mind and Kana cackled.
"How much did Yoruichi love Urahara Kisuke more than you?" Something within Soi Fon seemed to snap, and suddenly Kana's vision was filled with red. Her fingers clenched hard on Arashi's hilt to stop herself from dropping her only chance of life, and Kana was sent flying backwards. It was hard to breathe, and her limbs kept shaking. She blinked away the strange fogginess that settled in her head, taking note of thin fingers curling around her shoulders to stop her from crashing into the wall. Tilting her head slightly, Kana wheezed slightly, taking note of dark skin, purple hair, and golden eyes.
"Yoru...ichi..." Fuck was that her voice? It was so...weak.
"Wha' happened?" She asked, in shock of how much effort it took to pull away from the busty woman and stand on her own.
"Shhh." Yoruichi pushed lightly to get Kana to sit on the ground before moving to stand in front of her, facing Soi Fon who was suddenly missing her Captain's haori and emitting a faint white glow. Glancing down, Kana watched as Arashi rippled back into his blade form, and the skies above started to clear.
"Kana. You're a fool." Her eyes flicked up to watch Yoruichi's back and she suddenly felt the sinking feeling of shame.
"If I hadn't caught you in time, you'd be dead. How stupid do you have to be to antagonize someone like that?" Yoruichi continued on and Kana swallowed harshly, the guilt clawing at her throat. She had disappointed Yoruichi? What the fuck? Since when was fighting a cause for disappointment! And since when did she care what someone else thought about her? Her vision flickered and went fuzzy again and Kana closed her eyes to try to bring herself back into focus. Her reiatsu was stuttering, all four limbs numb. Her head almost felt like it was floating off and she felt like she could vomit at any second. It was hard to focus, hard to breath, hard to even continue to stay away. A concussion then. But she was fine when Soi Fon had stomped on her head? Why then, was she concussed? She didn't get hit again after that.
Did she? Why had she flown backwards then? Kana opened her eyes again and blinked slowly to watch Yoruichi and Soi Fon trade blows. Oh. That was why.
"I'm...too slow..." Kana whispered, the words taking much effort than they should have.
"Sorry...Yoruichi..." She could almost think the other woman heard her, as she found golden eyes locked in her gaze for a second before her vision faded to black.
