Leaving Kairi in the bushes and facing his fears of reentering the dark house he called home was likely the most difficult thing he could think to do but if he didn't show up in his room when his father woke up, he'd likely kill him. So, here he was climbing as quietly as he could through his own bedroom window. A soft tap could be heard in the deadly silent room when his feet hit the hardwood floor of his not so clean bedroom. The room itself was dark with only the small amount of light coming through the window he'd just climbed through. He sighed in relief at having been able to get in without waking anyone up within the house until he saw a small glint in a corner of his room. He looks to the left corner of his room to find the source to find his father sitting in a chair playing with a knife in his hand. He looked lethal and he looked mad.
"Where were you at boy?" His father asks darkly
"I..I fell asleep on the island...I didn't mean to stay all night" Sora stutters
"You with that redheaded brat?" Sora was surprised he even remembered her in his drunken stupor but he had to protect her as best he could.
"N-No dad, I was there by myself..." he lies
"You're lying to me boy" his father states as he stands and begin to inch closer to Sora
"I...I'm sorry, I won't do it again" he stutters out taking slow steps away from the older man. His back hits a wall and panic hits him like a brick. He had nowhere to run, nowhere to escape to. His father continues to play with the knife in his hand and continues to inch toward him slowly.
"You aren't yet...but you will be" his father smirks
After Kairi watches Sora climb into his room through the window she waits a few minutes. With no change, she sneaks off and begins her own walk home. She was sure Namine would be worried. She doesn't get far however because all the sudden she hears a loud piercing scream coming from her previous destination. She looks behind her and her stomach drops, that scream could only mean one thing.
"Sora..." she whispers and immediately the breaks into a sprint back to his house.
"Sora!" she shouts in tears and panic. Flashbacks begin to erupt into her vision.
"Found you!" Sora's father smirks maliciously, a young Kairi clutches her best friend tightly as she begins to cry loudly. Sora's father grabs him by the collar and pulls him out of the closet as Kairi thuds to the ground, now left with no support to hold her up. She begins to cry.
"Sora!" she wails out Sora squirms in the man's clutches.
"Let me go!" he tries to punch and kick his father but to no avail. Kairi wails even louder. His father chucks him across the room and moves toward Kairi.
"Shut up you little brat!" he shouts as he smacks her in the face, hard. Kairi crashes to the floor and crumples in pain and anguish. Dizziness and a warm liquid is all she can feel for a few moments. Suddenly, as her vision clears, the pain returns to her full force and she realizes she preferred feeling nothing over what she felt now. She has to get out, she knows she has to get out. That's all she knows, all she thinks about. Kairi pushes herself up and runs to the door. She's scared, she needs to get away. She needs to get help. Where's the front door? She sprints as fats as her legs can carry her down the hallway of Sora's home and when she finally finds the living room, relief spreads over her. She was free, she was safe, that is, until she's grabbed by the back of her shirt.
"Where do you think you're going? Sora's father says. She squirms but she's powerless in his grasp. he holds her wrist tightly, she could feel that it was gong to bruise but right then she had bigger things to worry about because his full attention was focused on her and Sora was nowhere to be found. This was it for her. This was the day she died. There was not turning back now, no escaping her fate. She cries loudly as she resigns to her fate. Suddenly, he releases her form his grasp and she smashes to the floor. She feels a sharp pain in her left leg but this is her only chance to get out and she has to take it. She looks around the living room to figure out where her position to the door is, she runs over to it and looks back at Sora. Sora's father is pounding on him, his face is bloody and battered and Sora's father has resigned to kicking him. She sees him reach out to her one of his blue was puffy and swollen, it was unlikely he could even see out of it anymore.
"Kairi" he whimpers in pain.
"You have to run Sora! Come on!" she shouts in fear. Sora tries to push himself up but her shouts had reached Sora's father and he focused her attention him once again. She tries to wait for Sora but her panic overturns everything and just before his father reaches her she slams the door in his face and runs. She has no idea where she's going but she runs as fast and far away as her little legs can take her. When she can't run anymore she walks, wanders aimlessly until she collapses in the road and passes out.
The world comes back into focus and she realizes she's in front of Sora's house. A familiar pang of dread hits her and she almost feels the injuries and bruises she endured as a child and suddenly, she realizes she's frozen, she can't move. Sora's in danger, she needs to make herself move. She needs to find him, she cant leave him behind like she did before. She has to find him and help him escape, but her fear is overwhelming and doesn't allow her. She clenches her fist and pulls herslef together, she will move, and she does. One step at a time, she pushes herself onto the porch. and takes hold of the doorknob leading into Sora's familiar living room. She turns it and peeks inside. The inside is quiet, way too quiet for her liking. She steps inside, tip toes suddenly hears a clatter of bottles and she quickly finds herself a closet to hide in. She temporarily flashes back once again to Sora's bedroom closet, but tries her best to shake it off, now was not the time. She knows she needs to focus on finding Sora. Sora's father crashes to the couch, and begins to snore. Kairi sneaks out of the closet and tip toes down the oh so familiar hallway that lead to Sora's room but before she can reach it a door to her left opens. Kairi releases an unintended gasp of surprise as a petite brunette woman steps out of the room. She looks disheveled and you can see bruises and marks all over her body. She has Sora's bright blue eyes and for a moment, Kairi forgets who and what she's looking for.
"You're that girl" her mother states but Kairi can't really discern whether she's saying out of fear or joy.
"what are you doing here?" she adds.
"I'm sorry...I-" Kairi starts
"You have to save him," the woman interrupts.
"You have to save my son," it dawned on Kairi that this was his mother.
"You have to save my son" she pleads again taking Kairi's hand in her own. Her bright blue eyes begin to form tears.
"Y-yeah, let's go get him" Kairi stutters but her tone is resolute. She's going to find him, she's not running this time, she can't run this time. She takes the woman's arm and guides her to Sora's room. Sora lies on the floor, blood pooling around his shadowed form. she rushes to his side.
"Sora, Sora wake up" she shakes him desperately but gets no response from him. She turns him over to find a very deep stab would. The knife lies beside his person, bloodstained and looks at his mother.
"He needs to go to the hospital. Help me get him up, we need to get him out of this house" The two women move to each arm and try their best to lift him. Slowly but surely they drag him out into the living room. Kairi signals to Sora's mother to be very quiet. She nods in return and the two slowly make their way to the front door. Suddenly, a loud clatter is heard throughout the room. They stop dead in their tracks. A picture frame lies on the floor broken, Sora's smiling face, so different from the picture of him now. He was so broken now, so lifeless and pale. She had to believe he would be okay, that he was even alive even though he didn't look it. She had to believe.
They look toward the couch but the man Sora called his father was now wide awake, and he was glaring mercilessly at them.
"C'mon, we have to go!" she shouts but Sora's father is already rising out of his drunken slumber and lunging at them. He pushes Kairi into the wall so hard she sees her vision blur. she forces herself to see through it and tries to pull Sora to safety. Out of the corner of her eyes she can see his father beating on his mother. His mother bright blue eyes, Sora's bright blue eyes stare at her pleading for help and the image of Sora reaching out to her flashes through her mind. She can't leave yet. She rushes at the man and throws all her weight into pushing him down taking a hard crash landing in the process, but she could see Sora's mother standing and rushing towards her son. His father tries to go after her but Kairi grabs onto his leg from the floor causing him to stumble. He kicks her in the face but she holds on. Sora has to get out. That's all that matters now. She takes hit after hit while Sora's mother gets him out of the house, even then she holds on, fights to keep Sora's father in her grasp. until finally she can't see, can't feel, can't think. Blackness is all she can remember now
Writer's note: Guys, I'm gonna honest here, I suck at writing action scenes. I'm trying to do my best not to be cliche about it but, I am just that bad at writing them. However, we are looking at what caused the huge argument between them that caused them to stop talking. I had to make it fit with the original description I had already given and this is what I came up with. I really don't remember what the original story was suppose to look like but this is definitely darker than I had originally intended when I started writing this story, that I can guarantee. Anyway any critique you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to review it as you see fit no comment is off limits, even if you say it sucks. I prefer constructive criticism but I guess if that's all you feel about it, then I'll take that too.
To the guest that reviewed the last chapter: You asked me if I ever reread the story, the answer is yes and no. I skimmed through it and man is it bad, but I did want to do something with it. Unfortunately, I can't remember where the heck I was going with it for the life of me and so I basically had to make up a brand new plot on the spot. Also, my writing style is different now and the way I view the previous chapter is exactly what I would consider positive. Some history to explain some of the inconsistencies within the story. I started writing this story when I was like a preteen, I started rewriting and publishing it on fanfiction when I was in highschool. I'm 26 now so this story is going through it's second rewrite and second writing style change. You will notice a good amount of inconsistencies like the timeline is not accurate. In a previously written more recent chapter, I do mention this. So try to be forgiving for the reasons stated above. to answer your question more thoroughly I read through the most recent chapters and skimmed through parts of the earliest written chapters. So I have read some of it, some of it I will admit i haven't reread as of yet. Eventually, I will go back and likely rewrite it but it won't be until after the story is finished which I am prioritizing as of right now. Until then, you'll notice I try not to use specific amounts of time and will only vaguely reference to previous events. I think the play was suppose to be more prevalent in the story when I started this. It's no longer a primary focus within the plot so I only use it to further specific events and otherwise find it very unnecessary and would even go so far as to find it's presence annoying. Again, the timeline is inaccurate. I will however continue to try to utilize the other characters I had originally set up in previous chapters but I don't really know how much or to what extent other than the main set characters of Namine, Yuna, Riku, and Tidus (Can someone tell me what I was doing with Cloud and Aerith? Like, what was the point?) We'll both just have to wait and see what I come up with because to be honest I have nothing planned out. I just look at the previous chapter and write what I know I wanted to follow up with. Thanks for taking the time out to comment and ask about it! If you have any suggestions on how to fix anything that may be bothering you about the story in particular please point it out and even if I don't fix it maybe I can explain what I'll be doing with it?
On a side note I'm taking the full weekend off so don't expect another update until late Tuesday night early Wednesday morning. I'll, then, update late Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday night and then won't be on again until after Monday the 30th. Just wanted to give you a heads up as to when I will most likely be updating.
Anyway thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed this last chapter!
