Izuku was amazed at all the people present in one place for a test. Well, two tests. The paper one had been interesting, but he felt confident he understood most of the work. The second one had yet to happen and the hundreds of potential students were being gathered like... well, anything Papa Ban wanted to him.
It was the best way Izuku knew how to describe the scene.
He looked down at his sheet of paper telling him where he would be sitting to get started on the next test. He looked around, passing many rows and sections until he had found his specific seat. With a grin on his face, he sat down next to a blond haired boy with lidded but confident gray eyes. He had a smirk on his face that settled into a more approachable smile.
"Hello," the blond greeted with a warm voice.
"Hi!" Izuku responded with his own large smile. This guy seemed nice and friendly. "My name's Izuku."
He put his hand out in front for a handshake as he had seen on the "tell-e-vision" by some adults. The stranger clasped his hand and a look of surprise sparked in his eyes. He didn't let go.
"Monoma. Very nice to meet you," he replied, his voice now a slight bit more smug. He let go of Izuku's hand and turned his gaze down towards a microphone below. Izuku sat down and saw a much smaller person approach. A young looking boy with large spheres on his head and wide eyes.
"Hello," Izuku greeted the nervous looking boy. He held out his hand like he had done for Monoma. The small hand clasped his awkwardly and felt a little sweaty honestly. "My name's Izuku."
"Minoru," the smaller boy responded in a more nasally tone. Izuku wondered if the boy was sick considering he sounded congested and had some dribble escaping the corners of his mouth he seemed a bit oblivious to. Or how his eyes seemed to dart around in an almost unfocused manner.
The sound of a tongue clicking behind him pulled his attention away from the possibly sick short person. He came face to face with Monoma who now had a look of disgust directed at the person behind him for some reason. A pleasant smile was quickly brought to his face.
"We're going to be starting soon. You may want to pay attention," he explained before glaring back at the sphere haired boy.
"Okay," Izuku answered. Certainly someone who no doubt lived in Japan longer than he did would know how this worked better than he did.
Izuku had regrets. Many were minor or just embarrassing. But Mr. Present Mic's voice was painful. He had never heard a voice so loud before. Sure the island had moments of being loud but the speaker in there had no sense of volume control. His ears were still ringing from the Plus Ultra. He was regretting Torino's suggestion of coming here for their "hero" course.
From what he gathered, everyone was seperated to different testing zones and were essentially in an all out brawl against mechanical golems.
He nearly snorted at the fact that he was going to go hand to hand against golems. At least for the first few to get the pieces. He was going to have watch his back and his golem's if he was going to perform well.
When he arrived at the testing area he, like many others looked around. His eyes fell on the girl he had stuttered in front of earlier. His feet were moving before he could think it through, but stopped when a hand clasped his shoulder. He turned around to see a tall and impressive stature of a blue haired boy.
"What do you think you are doing?" he asked in a stern tone. "Can't you see she is trying to focus?!"
"Yes. I wanted to say hi. She stopped me from falling earlier," Izuku chirped, unbothered by the accusser's accusations. He smiled at the perturbed boy who seemed to have been stricken mute. He put his hand out in front trying to be polite as well, "My name's Izuku."
With stiff movements, the taller boy quickly grabbed his hand and gave a firm shake.
"I am Ilda Tenya."
"GO!" Present Mic yelled, interrupting the two. Izuku got his hand free and took off running. He learned early in his training on the island, when go was given, you get going. Or get hurt. He let the others fade away from his focus as he pulled out his blades from the island. He gave a wild grin as he slashed his blades against the steel shells of the golems. He forced the blades deep, to keep the steel enemies from attacking him.
He didn't care about their "values", just that they were now able to be used by his magic. He took in a deep breath and pulled the outer shells off, focusing on crafting the metal golem. He couldn't help but think of his Aunt Diane. The Heavy Metal spell that was a staple for giants influencing the form. Strong, muscular legs with an array of wheels for the bottom of the feet, for better mobility, a tall body to give better reach for the long arms, and a head with the strands of wire inside fastening a crude recreation of her pigtails.
"Okay, now to fight for real," Izuku muttered to himself. The smaller, metal golem of Diane ran in front of him, easily smashing unsuspecting targets between her metal hands. The test felt... almost easy.
He had more trouble keeping his golem working smoothly than he did getting points. The point of the test was to get points right? Were others doing as well as he was?
He was broken from this thoughts as the ground began to shake. He stopped his Auntie Diane golem and looked around for the source of the mysterious rumble. His eyes widened as fear crept into his chest. There stood a monster of a golem. Far taller than even Auntie Diane and no doubt a devestating creation. He knew his golem wasn't even in the same league as the beast-
"Ow," a familiar voice moaned. Izuku was pulled from his negative thoughts to see the girl he had met earlier trapped under rubble. The debris that the large mechanical behemoth was heading towards. He didn't give it a second thought as he sent his own golem forward to try and hold off the creation as he worked to get her out. Both ran with purpose. His golem stood strong as she stood before the enemy and dug her created hands into the enemy, pushing with all her created might. Izuku did his best to ignore the strain as he made it to the floaty girl.
"Don't worry. I'll get you out," he assured her. He began throwing rocks aside to get her free from the pile, trying to ignore the groaning of metal under pressure. He forced as much magic as he could to the golem. He could not fail. He just needed enough time to get the floaty girl out of danger. He felt an internal strain as he lifted the last of the debris off her. He then scooped her in his arms, his breathing growing labored as he kept his Diane golem going. He heard a crunch of metal that sent shivers down his spine. He turned his head in curiousity and fatigue as his magic continued to pulse through the golem. Izuku and the girl in his arm's jaws dropped seeing the 0-pointer being torn into by Izuku's golem. The foot specifically.
He recalled how the other creations had little defense on the inside.
"Diane-uh!" he yelled out hoarsely, surprising the girl in his arms, "Tear it apart from the inside!"
The command and his magic had the golem create a larger hole to slip inside, allowing the metal behemoth to charge forward undeterred. Izuku grunted and began to run from the dangerous creation as he could just feel his golem wreaking havoc, travelling quickly through the body and inflicting as much damage as possible. It felt like hours, in reality only seconds when the machine began to smoke, it's movements growing slower and more unnatural. Izuku didn't stop running though. Down from a fight didn't mean any less dangerous. His Aunt Diane collapsing on top of Ban after sparring was proof of that.
"AND THAT'S TIME!" Present Mic yelled over the speaker system. Izuku gasped as he began to naturally slow down, his magic disconnecting from his golem, unable to keep the onslaught of aggresive magic going against such a much stronger adversary. One he wasn't sure would have stopped, unlike his family on the island. His steps slowed as adrenaline left him. What had started out as so simple, turned into something clearly dangerous.
Just like in the stories he had been told growing up. Something stronger could always show up.
"Anyone injured?" a new voice interrupted his thoughts. He noticed a short and elderly appearing woman with a visor and the oddest looking cane he had ever seen. He stared at her awkwardly as she approached.
"Oh my deary, are you alright?" she asked the girl in his arms.
"I uh... I sprained my ankle, she admitted sheepishly. The older lady smiled at the admittance.
"Well it's nothing I can't fix. Could you lower her please dear?"
Izuku crouched down, still not knowing what to say. He watched as the old lady kissed the floaty girl. He felt the sigh of relief leave the girl in his arms and saw her ankle now moving without issue. He lifted her back up, and lowered her legs so she could stand.
"Thank you!" she said sounding more tired than she had before.
"Oh aren't you sweet. Have a gummy," the old lady insisted.
"Ah, that is the famous Recovery Girl," someone with an accent not local said, "She is the reason that UA can have their tests the way they do."
"Recovery Girl," Izuku muttered under his breath. He'd have to use the crystal ball to message Merlin. Healing magic was said to be rare. And with all the quirks he had recalled seeing and hearing sbout, she was the first to have a healing ability.
*Huffs and struggles to throw chapter.*
Ehhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Nieto might be a pain, but he does have a nice voice. Deeper than some of his other classmates without it being distracting or over exaggerated. Very smooth and sounds like a potential for public speaking or for audio books.
Also, if Torino thinks Izuku is a girl, can you imagine Mineta's reaction?
Also, I would like to thank all of you, this story has now reached over 100,000 views.
