I'm really sorry for making this so, so late. A lot has happened here, and most of it was family drama. So I hope this makes up for it!
It was a silent ride back to Cat's penthouse. It had taken a couple of hours before Kara could be released, wanting to make sure that she was completely fine before she could leave the DEO base. The family of four where in the back of the media mogul's limo, declining the offer Alex had made of a ride home. Her two children where taking a nap, while she and a thirteen year old Kara, sporting a light blue, flower patterned dress and sandals (Cat had to go shopping before taking Kara home) were sitting opposite.
The older blonde cast her gaze to her much younger fiancée and saw that she still had a forlorn expression on her face, her eyes glued to the engagement ring that was in between her smaller fingers. Cat's heart went out to the girl, and recalled what Alex had told her, and no doubt Kara too.
Before she decided to step inside the room, Alex had given the lay out of what had happened to Kara. Apparently a scientist (Alex told Cat his name, but she refused to remember it for causing the damage he's done, and for all she cared he was a maggot) had gone rouge after he had been fired, and to exact revenge, he decided to take his own colleagues hostage, and show them the error of their ways. By bombing the entire floor.
But as always Kara was there to save the day. She had been able to get all the hostages out of the room before she confronted the mad man, trying her best to calm him down and see reason. But even the blonde couldn't save everyone. Kara had used her super speed to get to the scientist before he could do anything, but she wasn't fast enough. The remote detonator went off in his hand, the bomb exploding and hitting Kara full force, shattering everything inside the room.
When Alex finally came at the scene, all she had saw there was destruction, but no sign of her little sister. However, when she called out, from underneath the rubble of the room there was movement. But what she was met with hadn't been the sister of the here and now, but of when she was thirteen.
"There had been chemicals in the lab," she explained. "What ever was in there had gotten onto Kara and now, here she is. In all of her thirteen year old glory."
Cat stood there for a moment, processing the all the information Alex had just told her. "Do we know how long she'll stay this way?", Cat asked, her gaze going over to Kara, whom was sitting there staring at her hands in her lap, one hand closed tightly in a fist.
Alex had let out a sigh. "Unfortunately, we don't know when she'll change back," she told Cat. The woman was beginning to hate those words with a passion. Every time she has come here, which was related to something happening to Kara, those are the words (more or less) that she always hears. It was now becoming infuriating. The older woman, however, took in a deep breath, calming her inner thoughts, and with Carter and Kiera in tow, she entered the room.
Even now, sitting in the car with her, Cat still couldn't believe that this girl next to her was her fianceé. But her heart told her that it was indeed her soulmate, and if Kara has taught her anything in their time together, it's that sometimes the heart is always right.
"I'm sorry, Cat," the young girl next to her spoke up.
The media mogul let a sigh pass her lips. "We've already been over this, Kara," Cat replied, thinking back to the DEO when she, Carter and Kiera had walked into the room she had been occupying. She had apologized over and over again, saying that what had happened was her fault. She also had begun to cry, when she had revealed the engagement ring that had been in her hand the entire time, telling her that it doesn't fit anymore. "None of this is your fault," she continued.
"But it is," the girl's blue eyes turned to face hazel orbs, water already to beginning to fill them up. "If I had just been faster, then that man wouldn't have lost his life. Faster, so that I wouldn't turn into this," she gestured to her thirteen year old self. "And now, after we've waited so long for the wedding, we have to postpone our special day tomorrow! So tell me how this isn't my fault?!"
The Queen of all Media's eyes widened at the little outburst, too stunned to form words. Kara's eyes did the same, tears now spilling down her cheeks and placed a hand over her mouth after she realized that she had just shouted at Cat near the end. Closing her eyes tightly, a choked sob escaping her lips, Kara placed her head on Cat's shoulder, the woman instantly wrapping her arms around the younger girl once she shook of her shocked state.
Cat pressed her lips onto blonde locks and replaced it with her cheek, knowing words wouldn't help at this time. But she knew that she would have to get through to the girl somehow. With that thought in mind, an idea came to her, the older woman making for her phone.
She had a call to make.
Soon, Cat and her family had arrived at their destination, and waking up their two children, they all got out of the vehicle. As soon as their feet touched concrete, everyone wore a look of surprise when they noticed Kiera's nanny (who used to be Carter's), Miranda, standing at the entrance of the building.
"Good afternoon Miss Grant," greeted the woman with a smile.
"Hello Miranda," Cat said in return. Out of all the nannies she's had, Miranda's was the only one that she remembered. The girl was exemplary at her work and was one that Carter really liked. Even Kiera enjoyed her presence and that was all that mattered to Cat. "Sorry for calling at such short notice."
The other woman shook her head, waving away the apology. "It's no problem Miss Grant, happy to help." With that said, Miranda took the still sleeping little girl from Cat, into her arms, and ushered Carter inside. That only left Cat and Kara standing there alone.
"Um, Cat, why was Miranda here?" Kara asked, confusion written all over her face.
"Well, I thought while she's taking care of Kiera and keeping Carter company, you and I could take a little walk." explained Cat. "And, yes, I'm paying her a little extra for calling her with little notice," she added, seeing her young girl open her mouth only now to close it. Smiling triumphantly, the media mogul reached out her hand. "Shall we?"
Seeing the hand offered out, a smile appeared on the young Kara's lips, and once she took it, the couple walked through the streets of National City, hand in hand. There was no destination in mind. No place to be. It was just the two of them walking through the jungle of people. At some point on the walk, the CEO wondered how other people saw them. To only those who knew, they were a couple and the little girl was in fact National City's hero.
But to the outside world, if Cat had to put a tag on them, they looked to be just an ordinary mother and her daughter, out for a stroll.
"I wonder if people here think we're mother and daughter?"
CatCo's CEO couldn't help but laugh a little at the younger girl's comment, causing Kara to look up and frown at the woman in confusion. Her smile returned however when the older blonde told her that she had been thinking the exact same thing. After a couple of more minutes of walking, the blonde duo eventually came to a bench and Cat decided they should take a break from walking, Kara agreeing wholeheartedly.
The pair soon watch people pass them by as they enjoyed each other's company. But, unfortunately, while the atmosphere was nice and all, Cat knew that she needed to talk to the small heroine. With a small sigh, the CEO turned to her very young girlfriend and called out her name, blue eyes now looking into her's.
"You know you becoming like this, and having to postpone our marriage, is none of your fault," Cat started, and almost immediately, Kara's face dropped, her eyes now casting themselves downward to the floor.
"Cat," Kara called the CEO's name but said woman wasn't going to allow the younger girl to say anything. Reaching out, Cat cupped Kara's cheek and made her look at the media mogul.
"No, Kara," she spoke firmly, making sure that what she was going to say was going to get across. "I don't care that we don't get married tomorrow. All that matters to me is that we're together, here and now and hopefully many years to come and that we'll get through this, like always."
Hearing Cat's words, a small smile appeared on Kara's lips, and leaning forward, the younger girl placed her head on the crook of the CEO's neck. "I really want to kiss you right now," Kara whispered, as Cat wrapped her other arm around the small heroine's body.
"You don't realize how much I want to as well," she replied. "But unfortunately the last thing we need is me in the paper for making out with a minor." That got a chuckle from her very younger lover. "Now that we've got that out of the way, shall we head home?"
"Sure, but can we take the scenic route. I want to stay alone with you a little longer."
Well, Cat couldn't argue with that.
The scenic route home had become interesting in Cat's opinion.
She and Kara had been just walking along the sidewalk, and as Kara suggested, took the long way home. They had been holding hands, and chatted about nothing important. That was until a hooded man had walked up to them and pressed a concealed pistol into the CEO's abdomen.
"In the alley, or I'll kill you both," he said, and not wanting to cause a ruckus out in the open, the blonde duo reluctantly did so, and after a couple of seconds of walking into the secluded space, they stopped.
"That's far enough. Turn around," he ordered. Again they complied.
"Listen," Cat began, "you really don't want to do this."
"Oh, I don't do I?" asked the thug rhetorically, stepping closer until he was only a foot away, gun still aimed toward them. Then suddenly, he quickly snatched Kara away from Cat, moved back a couple of paces and placed the barrel of the gun on the younger girl's temple. "Now listen to me carefully, bitch, you either give me all the cash and valuables you have, or I put a bullet in her head."
This man is a colossal idiot Cat thought. But to be fair to him, he didn't know that he was holding Supergirl hostage at the moment. Not thinking much of the threat, the media mogul crossed her arms. This confused the thug, if his expression was anything to go by.
"The fuck you doing?" he asked, "You don't think I'm serious?" To make a point, her pushed the gun into Kara's temple further. Cat took one look at Kara and when she saw her beloved smile and nod subtly, she smiled too.
"Oh, I know you are," said Cat. "However, I'm going to give you one more chance to walk away. Before things get ugly."
"Hey! You're in no state to be bossing me around!" Shouting that, the man raised his gun and pointed it at Cat menacingly, and Kara chose this time to react. Stepping on the thugs foot (in Kara's case, as humanly as possible, but with a hint of super strength), the man let out a shriek of pain, releasing his clutches on the young blonde, and once free, Kara ran a couple of steps before turning to face her assailant.
"You little bitch!" the man growled loudly, after regain some sort of composure and in his anger he raised his weapon, aiming at Kara. At that moment, Cat couldn't believe that this man (no, at this point she couldn't really call him a man, more like a monster) had the audacity to raise a loaded gun on a child, regardless if said child was Supergirl or not. This crook had really hit rock bottom.
With rage fueling his decision, the thug pulled the trigger, the bullet escaping it's confinement of the barrel and headed straight for Kara. However, Kara had faced this sort of situation many times before and with ease grabbed the bullet when it was close enough from the air, only to release it a second later, the bullet crushed and hitting the floor with a clink.
Hand on the gun shaking and eyes bulging from the skull, if Cat knew any better, the crook was completely terrified at what he had witnessed. And so he should be the CEO thought. The man's fear only increased then, when Kara used her super speed to get directly in front of the gunner, grasped the barrel of the weapon and turned it sideways, the threatening object now reduced to a very thick hook.
Letting go of the weapon, the blonde duo watched as both gun and man fell to the floor, all plans of robbing flying out the window and after a pregnant pause, the crook stood up, leaving his little toy behind, turned tail and ran towards the alleyway opening.
Unfortunately for him, it was unsuccessful. Once more with super speed, Kara easily stepped into the man's line of sight and before he could even cry out again, the young superhero pushed the thug back into the alleyway, his body flying a couple of feet before landing on solid concrete as a landing pad. He groaned in pain as his back had taken the full impact, but it disappeared when he noticed that Kara was now standing next to his prone body, fear once more evident in his eyes as she glared hard at him.
She could give Batman a run for his money thought Cat, amused.
"W-Who are you?" the man stammered, no longer the person he was when all of this started, only now being reduced to a sniveling coward.
Kara crouched down before she spoke, no longer the little ray of sunshine she was, but taking on her Supergirl persona. "I'm the person that she be handing you over to the authorities. But I'm going to give you this second and only chance of whatever redemption there is left," said Kara, now reaching out to grasp the collar of the crooks shirt, bringing him closer.
"Do you see that woman over there?" she asked, indicating to Cat and once the man looked he gave his head a nod. "If I ever see or hear you going after her or anyone close to her, or even pull this off on anyone else in National City, I will come for you. Understand?"
Again, the man nodded his head vigorously, and with that, sky blue eyes turned to meet hazel of Cat Grant. "Could you open that dumpster for me Cat?" Kara asked, the CatCo founder turning her head to the left to see, in fact, that there was a dumpster there. Knowing that she was going to have to scrub her hands raw from touching something so germ infested, Cat did what was asked and reluctantly opened the massive bin.
The smell was horrifyingly putrid, but when Kara looked up and smiled sweetly at her, the CEO almost forgot about the smell. Almost. And, with that same sweet smile, the young blonde returned her gaze to the thug, swiftly throwing him at the dumpsters lid, falling into the trash and finishing it off with Cat closing the lid.
"Well," Kara began after a moment, clapping her hands together for a job well done. "That was something, wasn't it?"
Indeed it was," Cat replied. "But how about we head home. I think we've had enough excitement for one day." Walking closer to the younger girl, Cat took Kara's hand and the pair went home, both eager to see their family again.
Night soon fell over National City, and Cat was sitting up in bed reading the latest newspaper while she waited for her younger beloved to come back. It wasn't long before she got her wish, the blonde girl walking in wearing only one of her t-shirts that went up to her bare knees and her collar going lopsided, exposing her shoulder. Closing her paper, Cat smiled at Kara.
"Everything alright?" she asked, knowing that Kara checked in on their daughter and son. They had dismissed Miranda hours ago upon their arrival, and as the CEO had said, she gave the young woman an extra tip for her troubles.
"They're both asleep," she answered, making her way towards the bed. Putting the paper to the side, Cat opened up the covers so Kara could slide into the bed, and once she was, the older blonde turned out the lights. Darkness enveloped the room as the pair of blondes lay down together, Kara snuggling close to Cat with her head resting on the woman's chest while Cat wrapped an arm around the little hero's shoulder.
Once they were comfortable, silence was the only thing after.
"Cat?" Kara called after a long moment.
"Yes Kara?"
"Thanks, for everything today. If you weren't there I don't know what I'd do."
Cat squeezed the little blonde's shoulder. "Kara, everyday you have the entire world resting on your shoulders. If there is anything I can do to help, I'll do it. Always." Cat could feel the smile on Kara's face on her chest and tried to get even closer to the other woman as much as possible. There was another moment of silence before it was broken by Kara again.
"I really want to kiss you right now," she confessed. Smiling, Cat tilted her head down and pressed her lips on blonde hair.
"Will that do?"
The CEO felt Kara shift so that her head was looking upon Cat and immediately after felt lips press against her cheek. "Now it will."
Satisfied, Kara got back into her original position and after a while, the pair fell into the land of dreams, waiting to see what the new day would bring.
The sun's light of the next day, filtering through the blinds, caused Cat to stir. Opening her eyes, the woman sat up and stretched, her body popping from the lack of movement during the night and turned to Kara's side of the bed, wanting the girl to be the first thing that she saw. Except there was no Kara there. The CEO cocked a brow in confusion. "Kara?" she called out, but after a moment, there was no answer.
Wondering what the girl was doing, Cat was about to leave the comfort of her warm bed. Only to stop, her breath catching in her throat, as Kara turned round the corner into their room. Only this time, it wasn't the little girl Kara that came through but her older self, still wearing the shirt she wore last night which now stopped at her hips, revealing the shorts underneath and two mugs in both hands.
The heroine's smile was radiant.
"Kara?" Cat called, wondering what she saw was real. It was when the other blonde came closer, placing the two cups of coffee (Cat saw the brown liquid when she set them down) on her nightstand, and leaned into to kiss her on her lips. This is definitely real.
"How?" the CEO asked once they parted.
"I guess because of my biology, the effects didn't last long."
That sort of made sense. But right now that wasn't important. There was noting holding her back anymore and knowing that, Cat pulled Kara towards her and kissed those lips she missed for so long (even if was just a day). The kiss soon intensified, and the moment it did, getting lost that was all Kara, Cat flipped the other blonde over with ease. She must have enjoyed it too, as Kara let the woman become the top.
"Kiera and Carter are still asleep," Kara began, kissing Cat again and again, each one with fervor more than the last.
Something broke inside Cat then, her hands making their way to the hem of Kara's shirt. "Less talking, more undressing," was all she replied with until both women's clothes came off.
They made love then underneath the morning's rays of sunlight.
And for Cat, what a glorious morning it was.
