Water Dragon

"Friendship is the source of the greatest pleasures, and without friends even the most agreeable pursuits become tedious."-Thomas Aquinas

"All seems to be well," Nayru said, having shed her mortal form. "Now we have another concern."

"And that would be?" Skye asked, wary.

"Skye this is Leanne," she said as a girl walked in. Short, slender, and built similar to Skye, he guessed her lineage easily. She had dark grey eyes, dark brown hair, and a head shorter than Skye. Skye had learned not to judge based on height; some of the most powerful Shiekah were human wrecking balls that barely stood five feet tall.

Leanne's cheeks turned bright pink and she was rendered speechless, something that wasn't missed by Nayru.

"There is a dark conspiracy on Skyloft. They plan to strike when Zelda gets the Triforce. You two must stop them. I must return to the heavens now. I've done more than enough meddling. I'll pop in from time to time to see how you two are doing."

"Lemme guess," Skye said, twiddling his thumbs. "You can't help us."

"No, not exactly, but Hylia is going to need all the help she can get. Leanne will be back in a minute to confer with you on a plan of action."

Nayru left Skye's shop with Leanne trailing behind her. When she closed the door and rounded on Leanne.

"Hey, I saw that."

"Why didn't you mention he was cute?" Leanne shamelessly admitted. She looked away; for once in her twenty six years of life, she'd finally found someone she thought cute, looked decent, and wasn't stuck up.

"Keep it under wraps," Nayru said sternly. She shook her head; she had a rotating hate and hope-filled relationship with the human emotion called love. She couldn't allow it to impede in a situation like this. "At least until the mission is done. I can't have anything go wrong."

I didn't want to go. My legs were aching and my heart was drained. I wanted to return to Skyloft and spend the rest of the day and night in my comfortable bed in Mallara's house.

"Sure we'll..."

I elbowed Her Knightliness in the ribs before she could get all the words out.

"Let's talk about this for a minute," I said.

"What?"

I pulled Karane out of earshot to give my plea a shot.

"I'm worn out, I've just fought a massive monster and I'm exhausted...both me and my powers.

"Then let me do it," Karane offered.

"No, if..."

"I'm your personal knight now, remember?"

"Her Grace?" the Parella said, splashing to get our attenion. "What should I tell Faron?"

"We're on our way," Karane yelled back as I elbowed her again in the ribs.

The Parella dived below the water again, a trail of bubbles heading towards what I assumed was Lake Floria.

"How will we get there?" I pointed out. The island on which we were standing was large enough for Butch and his Kikwi brethren, but it wasn't going anywhere, and this Lake Floria place sounded quite far away.

Karane left for a minute and returned with Butcha holding a good sized log.

"On this log, remember what we did when we were eight," she said, flashing her eyelashes menacingly at me.

"Don't remind me," I said jokingly. Both of us were grounded for the next month for the prank we pulled on the leader of Skyloft.

"Well," Karane said. "I see a current heading the way the Par...or whatever that thing is called..heading north. If we just ride it...well.."

So we set the log off and let the current do the rest. On the way, Karane and I ate the lunch we'd packed. Both of us were so hungry we even ate the food we'd stored for dinner.

"This means we have to go back to Skyloft," I observed.

"Yeah," Karane agreed. "I need some civilization. This wilderness is fine, but I do like Henya's cooking."

"More like her punishments," I needled.

"Hey stop that!" she said, elbowing me in the ribs now.

The rest of the trip past like this, with us bantering and teasing each other like little schoolgirls. The log rounded a bend and in came the largest creature I'd yet seen (in person) was there. A vast blue dragon only what I'd seen in ancient texts.

"Where is the power to ignite the time stones?" he demanded.

"I know not what you seek!" the dragon yelled, spraying Ghirahim with boiling water. Ghirahim sent some dark spikes into the dragon's scales, causing bleed to seep out.

"Great, big, black, and bandage is back," I moaned.

"I have an idea," Karane said. "Can you do your light ball?"

I raised up my hands and slowly a light ball took shape.

"The current is taking us behind him, if he doesn't notice, I can slash him with my new blade and then you can blast him."

"Good idea," I said, not convinced it was going to work. Not like we had a choice anyways.

Strangely it actually worked. Ghirahim and the dragon were so busy going at it that neither one noticed a log with two humans floating on it.

"Three, two, one," Karane said. She leapt into the air and slashed Ghirahim's back.

"What the-?"

Ghirahim, like his master, took a light ball straight to the face at pointblank range. The dragon, or Faron, took advantage to swipe his tail through the water and form a massive pile of boiling water. The water hit Ghirahim full in the behind and sent him flying high into the sky.

"Wow, that's quite a ways," I said watching him until he became a tiny black dot in the sky.

"Thanks children," Faron said, using his powers to drift our log to his small island, surrounded by Parella. "May I ask where you got your powers from?"

"I'm Hylia, the Goddess reincarnated as a human," I said, playing a card that I vowed never to play again, if possible. "This is Karane, descendant of Rosalina."

"You can't be," the dragon said. "Hylia would never choose a form like that."

"What?!" Karane said, ignoring my attempts to shush her up.

"I've lived for thousands of years," he said. "I've seen more poor attempts like that."

"We just blew Ghirahim into the sky," I pointed out, furious. "What proof more do you need. How about this sword?"

"Proves nothing, the Master Sword looked nothing like that," Faron spat.

The sword I was holding turned bright blue and Fi popped out of it, surprising both of us.

"Faron, this is the Spirit Maiden and Her Grace, Hylia," she said. "Karane, Zelda, you may wish to call upon me more."

She disappeared back into the sword, leaving myself (and it looked like Karane too) our insides burning with guilt.

"Zelda is your human name huh, fine, whatever you will," Faron said, bowing after I had recovered. "And you must be her personal knight."

"Karane, Zelda, welcome to the Faron Woods, it's been well over 5,000 years," he said. "But whose keeping track. Where's Link?"

"We ran into a little trouble along the way," I said, giving Faron an abbreviated version of what had happened to us.

"Oh, so you're now tasked with the Hero's duties," Faron said. "What? A little thing like you? Are you sure you can handle this your Grace?"

I rolled my eyes. The sword at my side glowed again and Fi popped out, startling the two of us. To be honest, we'd nearly forgotten about her.

"I recommend you call upon me more in the future," she gently chided us, causing my insides to burn with guilt. "Faron, this is the Goddess incarnate. Please render her the same assistance you would've give the Hero."

She disappeared back into the sword.

"We need to know where the flame to strengthen the Goddess Sword is," I explained.

Faron turned and pointed to a waterfall on the wall, across the small bay that Faron occupied.

"In that dungson, called the Water Cistern, I placed the flame entrusted to me by you," Faron said. "Unfornately, lately monsters managed to get past the waterfall and into the dungeon itself."

"Great, another dungeon," I moaned. My knees nearly buckled and Karane caught me.

"It seems you are in no condition to search the dungeon today," Faron observed. "May I suggest you return to Skyloft. Rest up and return tomorrow. I'll watch the entrance, make sure nothing else gets into it. Especially Ghirahim."

"Good idea," Karane interjected. "Come on Zelda. We'll do it tomorrow."

Every inch of my body was beaten, and emotionally I was drained as well. With Karane being stronger than me, I had choice but to follow as Karane looped her arm with mine and hauled me off towards a Goddess Statue.

Yes I'm back, and with some new ideas for this fanfict. It's been nearly five years since I started it and it's ready to be finished. I hope to update weekly until the day come I finally wrap it up. As for the new picture, it's actually from one of my friends on this site, CherryPerkiePie. Sometime ago she deleted her account but left this picture behind. It's really a reminder of one of the ones who helped this fanfic get along this far.
