Happy holidays! I wanted to write something for the holidays but nothing came to mind other than stuff I have planned for the future, so I hope this will suffice!
Enjoy!
Chapter 24: To Embrace Fate
After freeing a factory of its prisoners, and taking what had been considered a doomsday device to wipe out the last of humanity and changing it to fight on their side, the city was in good spirits. Very little damage had been done to the city during the attack, and now the civilians felt safer than ever. The idea that the Rangers were able to go out into the waste and free others gave them hope that one day they'd all be able to leave their gilded cage.
The hope and good spirits, however, did not reach the Rangers themselves.
They had won, but in fear of his powers, Spencer had quit. Now they were a Ranger down, and Dr. K flat out refused to consider the idea of trying to unbond him. After all, they hadn't let her do it when Ziggy had bonded with his Morpher - or rather, Dillon hadn't - so she wasn't about to help unbond someone she had hand-picked.
"Where's Teddie?" Arianna asked as she came downstairs, noticing their White Ranger was missing.
"Singing," Nora answered simply. Arianna looked confused, not entirely understanding the answer.
"To help keep the city in good spirits and not realise that we're down a Ranger, Teddie's performing in town with some other big names," Summer explained more clearly for the Mercury Ranger.
"That's nice," Arianna smiled, but it quickly faded. "Still nothing from Spencer?" she asked softly, seeing Scott's scowl as he threw himself down. Summer shook her head without a word, giving a sad smile.
"Spence has a hard head," Nora said, looking up from her book. "It's going to be hard to convince him to step up again. Especially if he thinks he's keeping people safer this way," she rolled her eyes. "Give him time, he'll come round. Being a hero is too deep ingrained in him to stay out of it," Nora told them, and her confidence seemed to help Summer and Arianna relax a little.
"What if we don't have time?" Scott's quiet question shattered the moment, and he looked up to meet Nora's gaze. She stayed quiet, and he stood up. "We can't just wait around for him to get over this, we need him," he stormed off, and Nora rolled her eyes.
"Reds really do take their hot-headed trait too seriously," she muttered, pulling her book towards her.
"Isn't your dad a Red?" Summer asked, smiling a little.
"I know I'm hot-headed," Nora shrugged, not rising to the bait. "And I am trying to work on that," she added, and Summer and Arianna exchanged amused smiles.
"I'm going to see how Teddie's getting on," Arianna decided, lifting her jacket and heading out.
"I really hope that Spencer comes round soon," Summer murmured.
"He has Annie and Kendall to knock some sense into him. He'll be okay," Nora insisted, but hid her own uncertain look behind her book.
Music could be heard from the open square as the performers rehearsed for the evening. Teddie stood on stage, singing into the microphone as the music came through on the speakers, her voice echoing while she swayed to the beat. When she song ended, she gave a dramatic bow.
"Nice work," Kira praised as she clapped, making Teddie smile and blush.
"Yeah, you really have some great stage presence," Levi complimented, his guitar hanging from the strap over his shoulder. He then grinned. "Good to see that being a Power Ranger hasn't dulled your talents," he teased. Teddie stuck out her tongue as Kira gave a knowing smile.
"You're up, Weston. Try not to cave from following me," she taunted, and he laughed. Teddie then jumped down, and approached Heckyl.
"Not bad," he said, handing her a bottle of water that she happily chugged. Teddie then took a deep breath.
"Would it kill you to give a compliment?" she complained, making him smile.
"You seemed happy, the first time I said you weren't bad at it," Heckyl teased. Teddie was already warm and flushed from her performance, but his comment made her face burn. With an embarrassed smile, she stepped close and kissed him lightly, her hand lingering on his chest. "See? Enough of a compliment to make you happy," Heckyl smirked as she drew back slightly.
"I just know you well enough to read between the lines, "Teddie whispered back, making his smirk widen. Teddie giggled as he pulled her closer, before the music started back up and Levi started his own rehearsal. Resting her head in the crook of Heckyl's neck and staying close to him, Teddie watched the performance as some of the others did too, murmuring praise about Levi's talent, Kira included.
It had been the former Yellow Ranger's idea initially, to host a concert with some of the bigger names in Corinth City, to help the city and keep up the good spirits. And so, Teddie had been drafted into the list of performers, and since she was also a Ranger, it was bound to draw more of a crowd.
"Have you heard from Annie?" Heckyl's voice was quiet as he watched as well, finding the young man on stage somewhat familiar.
"She's pissed," Teddie said quietly, giving a small sigh. "But she's keeping her distance. Says calling Spence out now will just drive him further away, since she wants to punch him until he gives in," her words were soft, but Heckyl couldn't help his grin.
"Sounds about right. Sometimes I can see the resemblance," Teddie elbowed him sharply at the comment, and a grunt slipped out. "How are you holding up?" he asked a moment later, rubbing his chest. Teddie was quiet for a moment, before speaking.
"I dunno," she said honestly. "Sometimes it doesn't feel real. I can't pretend to understand what Spence is going through, so I can't entirely blame him for stepping back. But…" Teddie trailed off and bit her lip, but the corners of her mouth still tugged upwards. "I know someone who isn't going to be happy that he has, and she's a lot less hesitant in calling him out on it," Heckyl angled his head to look at her, wondering just what she meant. "I should go make sure my guitar is tuned," Teddie kissed his cheek and pulled away, jogging away. He watched her, not even surprised that he hadn't gotten any answers.
The wind was the only thing that could be heard for a fair distance, as Spencer kept his eyes closed and listened to his surroundings. His breathing was controlled as he sat in the sunlight; as far from the city as he could be, inside the dome.
'Picture your walls, your barrier. Fence it in, leave no room for escape,' Leánbow's words echoed as a reminder to Spencer as he focused on doing just that.
'You are stronger than you realise, not just with your magical and physical prowess, dear warrior,' Zora had told him gently when she had started to train him. 'When you realise that, then you will have won,' he still didn't understand what she meant by that.
"Picture my walls," he murmured, doing so. The walls started to form in his mind, golden in colour and paper-thin, but stronger than they looked. He had been off-put at first, but then Leánbow had explained that everyone pictured their mental barriers differently, and they represented part of themselves. Spencer had accepted that, but considering Leánbow's own barriers were pillars of flames, he didn't feel much better.
Despite this, he kept his focus, forming the walls until they were perfect, flawless, and pushed deeper into his mind to box Omni in.
Almost immediately, a sharp pain snapped through his head, and the walls were shattered as Spencer let out a cry and put his hands to his head. Laughter started to echo through his mind, dark and grating and part of him.
'Oh Spencer, you know that won't work on me. It barely kept me contained before! You're too weak' Spencer put his hands to his head as Omni taunted him.
"Shut up," he hissed.
'Just give up. It's only a matter of time before you give in entirely and let me take over again. Remember? Oh, how strong we are together! It took two teams of Power Rangers, and members of the magical community, to take us down. Don't you want that power again? We could destroy Venjix,' Omni suggested eagerly, cackling away in the back of Spencer's mind. Each word sent a spike of pain through Spencer's head, and tears welled up in his eyes.
"Never. I'll never let you take control like that," he vowed, and let out another cry as more pain pulsed through his head. Spencer curled in on himself, gasping for breath as he struggled to try and bring back his walls. However, every time they started to form, Omni smashed them down again.
'Pathetic! You think that you can stop me for long? I am Omni! Everyone feared Emperor Grumm, and he feared me! What does that tell you about my power?' he hissed.
Spencer choked on a sob that forced its way up his throat, not sure how long he'd last, before a pair of gentle hands carefully touched his. Looking up at Kendall as she knelt in front of him, Spencer couldn't speak, stuck in an internal struggle as she found his eyes flickering golden.
"You're okay," the scientist soothed. Her touch grounded Spencer, and finally Omni retreated, forced back into the depths. Spencer sagged, slumping forwards to rest his head on her shoulder. "Just hold on a bit longer. I'm close with figuring it out, I swear," Kendall insisted, feeling guilty that she still hadn't figured out something to help him.
"You shouldn't be near me, not until I can get this under control," Spencer lifted his head and stood up, taking a step back from his girlfriend. He hated to see the hurt look on her face from his actions, but he would never forgive himself if he accidentally hurt her.
"Hiding out here isn't going to help anyone," Kendall pointed out, her frustration slipping through. She'd barely slept in days. "You know that. You need to go back," she told him, and saw his brow furrow in frustration. "Spencer-"
"I can't go back!" he refused stubbornly. "I hurt someone. I'm lucky I didn't hurt more people, like those prisoners. I'm a Ranger, Kendall, I'm supposed to-"
"I was a Ranger too, you know," Kendall said quietly, making him stop for a moment. Spencer huffed, running a hand through his hair.
"I know," he said, just as quietly.
"No, you don't," Kendall shook her head. "Not really," Spencer's frown grew.
"What are you talking about? Of course I know you were a Ranger," he said slowly, not sure what she meant. Kendall sighed.
"Then why won't you accept my help?" she asked, taking him by surprise. "Why won't you accept your team's help?" she pushed, taking a step closer to him. Spencer stepped back, and regretted it when he saw the hurt return to her.
"It's not that simple," he tried to argue, but the words felt weak to him.
"You have never accepted help, not from any of us," Kendall's blunt words made him flinch. "I've never said anything, because, well, I know I'm not the one that people go to for heart-to-hearts or words of wisdom. We thankfully had Ari for that. But this time, I'm stepping in. Not just because of my feelings for you, but for the risk of the city. Because I'd have done the same if any of my team had tried to quit," Kendall struggled with the words, feeling completely out of place saying this. She rarely admitted her thoughts and feelings on anything that wasn't something she was inventing, or researching, or fixing.
"Kendall, I'm broken!" the words slipped free from Spencer before he had fully thought about what he was saying. Kendall's eyes widened, and Spencer looked away. "I'm supposed to be a hero, and I have this darkness inside me that will turn me evil and destroy the rest of the world!" he exclaimed, glaring at the grass. A tense silence fell over the pair.
"You're 'supposed to be a hero'?" Kendall repeated, incredulous.
"I trained for years to join SPD, and become a Ranger," Spencer finally looked up at her. "Then I became one, and I'm just...defective," he shook his head.
"Good grief," Kendall pushed up her glasses to pinch the bridge of her nose, fighting back a headache of sheer exasperation. "I knew you were arrogant at times, but this is ridiculous," she stated, before blushing at how rude she had sounded. Spencer went red as well, startled, before jumping as he heard a laugh.
"Now that's an understatement," Ari commented, leaning against a tree with her arms folded.
"Mum…" Spencer frowned.
"I'm glad to see that Kendall still has a bite," Ari grinned, winking to Kendall. The short woman blushed even harder. Ari's smile faded, however, as she turned to Spencer. "You on the other hand, still haven't shaken that arrogance," she stated bluntly.
"How is that arrogant?" Spencer asked, frustrated.
"Everyone always says that you're like your dad, but what I like to pretend is that you aren't just as much like me," Ari said, shaking her head. "Daggeron told me that you always wanted to be like me, when you were a kid. You never really heard the lessons behind the stories I told you," Ari sighed, and Spencer didn't speak, growing more annoyed as his confusion grew. "I am not perfect, Spence. And I certainly wasn't when I was a Ranger. I was reckless, throwing myself into fights to protect those I cared about, which in turn only made them worry more. I was a crybaby and I'd run away instead of facing my problems, but I wouldn't let anyone else do that," Ari listed her faults with a weak smile.
Spencer didn't speak as he listened to her words. He thought about the stories he'd heard as a child. He preferred others, because Ari had always made herself out to be less heroic than he knew she was. "I am not perfect," she repeated. "Do you remember the story I told you, about when the Overdrive Rangers faced Thrax?" she asked. Kendall watched, curious, as Spencer listened, frustration fading.
"You lost your powers when he severed your connection to the Morphin' Grid, but you used your Mystic powers to keep fighting," he remembered.
"I have never regretted that," Ari said honestly. "But what I regret, is my feelings before I found out I could still Morph. I hated the idea of Xander, of Zoe and the others, fighting without me," she confessed. "I was selfish, I felt that I should be out there fighting, when it had been my fight from the start. But what I know, what you should understand; is that they're just as capable, if not more so. I know Adam is," she chuckled.
"I don't understand...what does this have to do with anything?" Spencer asked, finally finding his voice.
"Well, you're struggling with Omni, and did you go to your team to help?" Ari asked innocently, tilting her head in a way that Kendall knew well, from all three of her children.
"No! They're-"
"Just as capable as you are," Ari finished for him. Spencer fell quiet, mouth still open as he struggled to find an argument. "They are all Rangers. Just like you, just like Kendall. You need to remember that. They do not need to have extra powers like us to be Rangers, which seems to be something stuck in that rock you call a head," Spencer went red again at the insult. "You have always been so focused on being a hero, that having Omni in your head makes you think that you're broken or whatever, but you need to understand, that there's more to life than being a hero, and there's more to being a hero than having powers and saving people," Ari told him firmly, and Spencer didn't move as Kendall approached and took his hand.
"Let us help you," she pleaded. Spencer looked down at her, torn. Finally, reluctantly, he gave a nod, and saw her face brighten.
"Good, now I don't have to shout at you for quitting. You do remember that part of the story about Thrax, right?" Ari nudged her son as he approached, and he went red.
"I'm still not rejoining the team, not until I have a handle on this," he told her firmly. Ari groaned, rolling her eyes. "It's too dangerous, what if-"
"What's the saying? If 'ifs and buts' were candy and nuts, we'd all have a merry christmas?" Ari raised an eyebrow at him. "Let's get back to town. We'll discuss it after," she decided. Spencer groaned, knowing he was in for a lecture.
Ari suddenly looked up, distracted from her annoyance at her son. "Get down!" she shoved hard, and the pair stumbled, falling as Ari raised a shield. A small ball collided with her shield, and burst open. Ari's eyes widened as it surrounded her shield, and closed in around her.
"Mum!" Spencer shouted as he saw the bubble that surrounded Ari.
"Wow, it really is easy to take out the Legendary Golden Warrior," they looked up as Siren approached with a new Attackbot. Ari rolled her eyes, running her fingers along the bubble.
"Siren…" Spencer growled as he got to his feet, helping Kendall up. Siren smirked, knocking her dark curls out of the way of the faceless mask she wore.
"Hey there, Gold Ranger. Or is it just...Bly, now? I can't help but notice that you're missing something rather important," Siren tapped the side of her temple with a delicate finger, giving a mocking smile.
"Don't need it to stop you," he warned coldly, but he was very aware of the bubble that had trapped Ari inside. Siren laughed.
"Right, I'm so sure about that," she approached, and Spencer and Kendall tensed as Ari watched with a blank expression. "How do you like the bubble? They're impenetrable," Siren taunted, before Ari's armor surrounded her. The sword collided with the bubble, right where Siren's face was peering in, and she jerked back.
"You seem confident about that," Kendall said dryly, watching as Siren's jaw set in anger. Spencer then pushed forwards, throwing a punch. Siren blocked it, and smirked.
"Where's that strength you're so proud of?" she taunted as she shoved him back easily, only for Kendall to kick her in the stomach and knock the Attackbot away.
"Kendall you-"
"Don't even think about it," she warned as Spencer stood beside her. He sighed, but didn't push it.
"The pair of you need to get out of here," Ari's voice was muffled, but still clear enough as her armour faded. "Get the rest of the RPM Rangers," she told them, green eyes serious.
"You aren't going anywhere," Siren called, running at the two with the Attackbot close behind. Spencer grit his teeth, dodging a punch and throwing one of his own at Siren. She caught it, shoving him back, and Spencer didn't push against it. "What, are you scared, Bly?" she taunted.
"Shut up," he hissed back, letting his hand light up with energy. He threw it at her, but Siren dodged it.
"You're more predictable than your sister," she continued the taunts, and he let out a yell of anger.
"Spencer!" the young man stopped abruptly, and turned to see Kendall inside one of the bubbles as well. Horror welled up inside him, before Siren's fist sank into his stomach. The air was forced out of his lungs, and Spencer fell to his knees. "No!" Kendall put her hands to the bubble, and Siren smirked, standing over him as he gasped for breath.
"I'd save that air, if I were you, Kendall Morgan," she called without looking at her. "You don't have much of it left," she then kicked Spencer over, stomping on his chest. He let out a cry of pain, and Kendall was forced to watch, feeling completely helpless. "I don't even think it's worth using this on you. You've lost any fight you had," Siren mocked. Spencer didn't move, knowing that she was right. He was too scared that he was going to reawaken Omni, who he could feel lurking, ready to take over. "It's sad really. Your sister is fun to mess with. I'd hoped you'd be better," Siren levelled her blaster at him, only for golden energy to explode against her chest.
A scream escaped the human-like Attackbot as the force threw her away from Spencer. Her companion turned to react as well, only to be blasted as well as the Ranger team arrived. Siren pushed herself up, scorch marks across her chest, and her jaw clenched again. "Get up!" she snapped at the Attackbot.
"What are these?" Ziggy wondered as he reached out to touch the bubble that surrounded Kendall.
"What are they? How about you find out!" Siren snapped her fingers.
"Ziggy, no!" Dillon went to shove him aside, raising his shield, but the bubble wrapped around the pair, trapping them in uncomfortably close quarters.
"Nitro Blaster!" the others fired their weapons, tossing the Attackbot away again.
"We need to retreat," Scott warned.
"I can help with that," Teddie told them, giving a snap of her fingers. The group vanished in a flash of green and white, and Siren gave a quiet chuckle.
"No matter. There's no getting rid of those bubbles. Soon they'll be down the Green and Black Rangers, and both the White and Gold Rangers will have lost too much to bear," with a flick of her hair, Siren stalked off.
Ari didn't even flinch, as Teddie's hammer collided with the bubble surrounding her. Suspended inside it, she sat cross-legged, meditating.
"You know things are bad when mum's meditating," Teddie commented, lowering her hammer and leaning on it. "And this is tough," she knocked on the bubble, making it echo.
"That doesn't help matters," Ari said quietly, making her daughter smile slightly.
"Any luck figuring out what those bubbles are?" Scott asked, turning to Dr. K as she scanned the one containing Dillon and Ziggy. She shook her head.
"The main concern is how long they'll survive inside them," she said, looking to the team. "They're airtight, meaning if we don't break them out soon…"
"They'll suffocate," Summer realised quietly, horrified. Dr. K nodded wordlessly.
"My hammer didn't even dent it, and mum couldn't break out from inside," Teddie looked to Ari, who was keeping her breathing steady to keep her air supply going.
"Then-" Dillon clapped a hand over Ziggy's mouth. He mumbled for a moment, before giving up, looking unhappy.
"Heckyl, can you try?" Teddie asked hopefully. He looked a little doubtful, but looked at the three bubbles now suspended in the lab, and raised a hand to let his power charge in one hand. His sharp eyes then focused on the bubble containing Dillon and Ziggy. Ziggy went pale as Dillon's brow furrowed, not liking it. The pair flinched when Heckyl threw out a hand, and the blue energy collided with the bubble, wrapping around it. It crackled, making the hairs on the back of everyone's neck stand on end, but when nothing seemed to happen, he let it fade.
"Nothing," Annie studied it, running a hand along the hard surface that rippled a pale blue.
"Looks like defeating the Attackbot gives the most likely chance of freeing everyone from these bubbles," Flynn figured as he looked around.
"Flynn's right," Scott agreed. "If not automatically, I'm sure we can salvage enough for Dr. K," he glanced to their mentor, who nodded, confident she could reverse-engineer it. "But we're two Rangers down, which means we can't form the Zenith Megazord," he took a breath, and went to Dr. K's computer. "Spencer. We need you out there," Scott lifted the Gold Morpher, and approached Spencer. Immediately the young man tensed.
"I can't," he denied, shaking his head. Anger clouded Scott's eyes.
"Are you that scared? We're two Rangers down. The rest of us are willing to go out and fight, and you'll just go back to hiding?" he demanded, blocking Spencer when he tried to shove past.
"Back off," he warned, but Scott didn't budge. "Scott, I'm warning you, get out of my face," he growled. Scott raised an eyebrow as Teddie put a hand to her face. Annie rolled her eyes as Dillon smirked very slightly.
"Scott, don't," Summer tried, but the Red Ranger ignored her.
"Like it or not, you are a part of this team, even before you became a Ranger. You didn't let me run out into the Waste alone. Why would I let you run off and deal with this alone? When I haven't let Dillon do that with Venjix in his head?" Scott challenged him, watching Spencer's reaction. The Gold Ranger was getting angry, and looked ready to start fighting back. "You are going to rely on us, just like you expect us to do you," the Red Ranger's voice was filled with his natural authority.
"No," Spencer answered simply. "You said it yourself, you have Dillon to worry about. Why should I stay and put this team at risk?" he asked, and Scott grabbed him by the collar as Spencer tried to brush past. He shoved him back against the wall, and everyone jumped at the sudden movement.
"Alright, enough!" Teddie shouted, stepping between the pair as Spencer went to lash out in defence.
"Guys-" Ziggy was once again cut off by Dillon.
"Enough," Teddie repeated, pushing Scott away from Spencer. The Red Ranger moved willingly. "First off, Ziggy, I know it's hard, but you need to keep your mouth shut. With two of you in that thing, your air supply will last far less time than mum and Kendall's," she ordered the Green Ranger, who nodded silently. "Scott. I know things are hectic at the moment, but you are our leader. Getting angry, storming off, that's not what we need," Teddie's dark eyes were burning through Scott as she focused on him, and shame heated his face. He knew she was right. "Summer, you are our second in command. Babying Scott or Dillon isn't how you earned that," Summer went red at the harsh words.
"Have I ever said that I love when Teddie goes nuclear?" Nora smirked to Heckyl, who rolled his eyes at her.
"Annie, I know you're pissed, but you're a member of this team too," Teddie ignored the pair and turned to Annie. The blonde arched a dangerous eyebrow. "We need you here and helping. I doubt you skulked off when you were the Silver SPD Ranger?" Teddie tilted her head with an innocent look. Annie chuckled low.
"Normally I'd beat someone for calling me out like that, but you're right. Kruger would have flipped his lid if I'd sat around sulking," she had to admit. Teddie smiled with relief as Annie winked at her, and she turned to Spencer. He rolled his eyes, and looked away stubbornly.
"Oh no bro," Teddie's smile was suddenly dangerous. "You're listening to what I have to say. You don't get to just quit being a Ranger," she shoved the Gold Morpher at him, and Scott double-took.
"How-"
"I wouldn't question it," Heckyl told him quietly. Scott sighed.
"Teddie, no," Spencer refused to take it, but Teddie held it there stubbornly.
"We didn't spend a whole lot of time together growing up. Me and Chase were in New Zealand, and when we came back, you joined SPD. But you never shifted your idea of having to protect everyone. Like you were stronger than everyone, just because you had powers. You don't see the rest of the team as equals, when they're Rangers too. How heroic is that?" she asked, and Spencer went rigid at how close to home she hit. "If you think that you're a hero just because you have powers, and that Omni makes you less of a hero, then, well, you're not much of a hero at all," Spencer stood motionless at Teddie's harsh words, and she took the chance to slip the Morpher around his wrist.
"I…" he didn't know what to say.
"She's right," he looked at Annie as she approached, putting a hand on Teddie's shoulder. "Most of B-Squad never really realised it, except Bridge and Sky. You treated them all as equals because they had powers. Me and Kayden were treated differently, which was chalked down to knowing us so long. But Jacob, that poor kid never really met your standards, did he?" Annie called him out. "You're so obsessed with being a hero, that the moment that you have a slight crisis, you break down. I mean, what do you have if you aren't a Ranger?" she asked, softer this time.
"Nothing," Spencer answered honestly. "I trained my whole life to be a Ranger. If I don't have that, what use am I?" he asked, and flinched when Annie's fist cracked against the wall beside his head.
"Wrong answer," she said, voice low and dangerous. Scott put a hand to his face.
"You and Bridge weren't friends because you were Rangers. You're both great when it comes to computers. That's something outside being a Ranger. You're a great Ninja, better with Pai Zhuq. And what about Kendall?" Annie asked, tilting her head to the scientist.
"She didn't like you because you were a Ranger," Teddie grinned, earning a scowl from the woman, who only kept quiet to preserve her air. Spencer slid to the ground with a thump.
"I'm so stupid. But that still doesn't change things. Omni's still a threat," he shook his head.
"You're right," Teddie crouched in front of her brother. "You are an idiot. But, you're our idiot. Our team will help you. And we're not running away," she told him confidently. He looked up at her, and gold flickered through his eyes before he blinked it away.
"She's right," Scott sighed, approaching them with a grin. "Harsh, but right," he shrugged.
"And you know, there is someone else here with experience in the whole department of sharing brain space with an evil being," Teddie reminded him.
"Do you really have to phrase it that way?" Heckyl asked as he messed up her hair. Teddie giggled, and pulled her brother to his feet. "Teddie does have a point, though. I do have some experience in blocking out their...murderous rage," he shrugged, and Spencer snorted.
"Nice way of putting it," he said dryly. Heckyl smirked back.
"As heart-warming as this all is, by the looks of it, you will not have long to stop this Attackbot," Dr. K warned. They turned to her, and found Ziggy looking paler than usual. Kendall was faring slightly better, but was starting to look a little unfocused.
"Then let's find this Attackbot and stop it," Scott declared.
"Right," Spencer nodded his agreement.
1-2-3-4-5
It didn't take long to locate the Attackbot, who was waiting for them in the city with Siren.
"Finally, I was starting to think you were enjoying watching your friends suffocate," she commented dryly when the team reached her.
"Aren't you and Tenaya supposed to be infiltration units? Cause if that's what you think, clearly you're defective," Teddie told her. Siren gave a chuckle.
"Such claws, Ranger White. And I see they gave you back your Morpher, Ranger Gold," she said casually to Spencer. "Maybe now you'll give a better fight. Attack!" she snapped her fingers, and Grinders burst out of every space and rushed the team.
"Ready?" Scott shouted as he lifted his Engine Cell.
"Ready!"
"RPM, GET IN GEAR!" the team Morphed and drew their weapons, fighting off the Grinders. Spencer made a beeline for the Attackbot, landing a punch before it could react. It staggered back, and he lifted his Claw Hatchet, cutting through the Grinders that tried to block his path.
The two traded blows repeatedly, and Spencer grunted as he heard Omni's low chuckle.
'What power, Spencer. Care to share it?' he asked, sending more pain through Spencer's head. The Gold Ranger kicked the Attackbot back, and dropped to knock the feet out from the Grinders around him. As he stood, the Attackbot created another bubble that wrapped around Flynn.
"Oh, come on!" Flynn punched it, but it did nothing.
'Come on Spencer, share that power. Maybe then you can stop those bubbles and save Kendall,' Omni suggested sweetly. Spencer gave a low chuckle.
"Huh. Good idea," he murmured. Under his helmet, his eyes flickered golden, and his next punch was far more powerful. The Attackbot collided with a wall nearby.
'Ranger Gold, your energy levels are growing unnaturally high,' Dr. K warned him.
"I know. I just hope I'm doing this right," Spencer replied.
"Whoa, Spencer seems way stronger," Arianna commented as she saw Spencer rush the Attackbot and bombard it with punches that would rival Dillon's. Teddie shivered, and Annie did the same.
"Heckyl did say something to him before we left," Teddie remembered the two whispering. She grabbed the arm of a Grinder, and slammed it into Siren. She cursed, shoving it off her, and followed Teddie as the White Ranger bounced back, leading Siren right where she wanted her.
"Zip Charger!" Summer lined up a shot, slamming it into Siren. She screeched, landing in a heap nearby.
"It's a risky move, whatever he's got planned," Annie muttered.
"Risky is what we need! Claw Hatchet!" Spencer combined his weapon with his Morpher, channeling his excess energy into the weapon. "Skyship Laser! Fire!" the golden light shot out and cut through the Attackbot in a concentrated beam. It collapsed, no longer moving, and Spencer staggered as the energy faded from his body.
"You okay?" Scott caught him, and Spencer laughed.
"Yeah, I'm fine," he nodded. There was a loud pop, followed by loud Scottish cursing, as Flynn sprawled on the ground.
"I never want to do that again," he grumbled as Arianna and Summer helped him up.
"At least that popped the bubbles," Teddie shrugged, before the ground rumbled. The Attackbot, repairing itself, grew much larger, towering over them.
"Better call on the Zords," Scott called, and they summoned their Zords.
"Hey! We're here too!" Ziggy's voice reached them before his and Dillon's Zords did.
"Oh, you're free to talk again. Doc. K must be thrilled," Annie smirked. Ziggy rolled his eyes, giving a mocking laugh. They formed their Megazords, including the new Mach Megazord, and all three Zords rushed in towards the Attackbot. Arianna watched below, hoping they'd be okay.
"Oof, he's strong," Teddie complained as the Zenith Megazord's punch bounced off.
"Aye, even the Super Sabre is having trouble!" Flynn complained as the Attackbot grabbed their sword and fought against their swing.
"Together guys, we can do it!" Scott shouted. They nodded, and each attacked at the same time. The Attackbot stumbled backwards, and fired more bubbles at them. The Megazords dove out of the way.
"Nice try!" Teddie growled.
'Rangers, how about using this newfound teamwork to your advantage?' Dr. K called through, sounding excited.
"Do share," Dillon requested as they shoved back to their feet. Their consoles lit up, downloading new data from the Doctor's lab.
'You're now go for the SkyRev Megazord, to combine all your Zords,' she announced.
"What are we waiting for. Let's do it!" Scott nodded. The three Megazords activated the program, starting to flash with each of their colours, and began to combine. It shook violently as it did so, but the Rangers focused, and finally a new Megazord stood facing the Attackbot.
"Whoa…" Teddie breathed as she looked around the new cockpit where they all sat together. Their Zords all combined together, forming a vastly more powerful Megazord that faced down the Bubblebot. It immediately fired a bubble, trapping them inside, and they looked around.
"Not again," Flynn groaned in irritation.
"Don't worry too much Flynn," Spencer grinned. "Even this can't hold the SkyRev Megazord for long!" he cheered, and with one powerful punch, they shattered the bubble. The Attackbot stepped back in what seemed like alarm.
"Let's finish this!" Scott shouted, and they took to the sky.
"Combine!" the Rangers combined their weapons with the steering wheels that controlled their Zords. "Lock on!"
"Fire!" the fired an attack that consisted of their respective colours shaping into their Zords, colliding with the Attackbot and destroying it. "Nice work everyone," Scott praised as they cheered.
"Mum!" Ari laughed as Teddie threw herself at her in a hug.
"Nice work out there. It was fun to watch from this side, it's been a while," Ari ruffled her hair, hugging her tightly. Teddie grinned, releasing her as the rest of the team walked in.
"So we didn't really get a chance to properly introduce ourselves earlier," Scott gave her a grin. "We've heard a lot about you," he told Ari, who chuckled.
"Vicious rumours, I assure you," she grinned, making him laugh. Spencer rushed in and immediately hugged Kendall. "Hmph. At least one of my kids remembers I exist," Ari huffed playfully as Kendall hugged Spencer back tightly. The others giggled.
"I'm so sorry. I'm such an idiot," he apologised when he finally let her go.
"I've known that for a while," Kendall rolled her eyes lightly. "Though hopefully this means you've learned your lesson," she said firmly, and he nodded.
"Of course," Spencer told her. "I'm going to work on rebuilding my walls and keep Omni under control, with the help of my team," keeping one arm around her, he turned to them. "Thank you, all of you, for not letting me give up. And to mum and Ted for being ruthlessly brutal in telling me just how much of an idiot I am," he chuckled.
"It's a Bly curse. Need to be harsh to get through those thick skulls," Ari poked Teddie in the temple, and the White Ranger stuck her tongue out.
"And just what did you tell him, that gave him the confidence to use Omni's power?" she turned to Heckyl. He shrugged.
"The truth," he said simply, and she gave him a droll stare.
"Whether I like it or not, Omni is a part of me now," they turned to Spencer as he spoke again. He lifted his head, and to their surprise, one of his eyes turned golden. "I can use my walls to stop him from taking control, but that's only one part of it. My resolve can't waver. If I slip up, he'll overthrow me," the Gold Ranger explained. "As long as I keep my resolve, Omni will have a much harder time in taking over," he told them, and grinned. "Looks like there's someone else I need to thank for harsh truths," he said, making them chuckle.
"Yeah...I still don't get it," Ziggy admitted.
"Why doesn't that surprise me at all?" Flynn rolled his eyes, earning a glare from the Green Ranger, and more laughter from the rest of the team.
"Well," Scott then grinned as he approached and clapped Spencer heavily on the shoulder. "You've missed a lot of training recently. You'll have to play catchup," his words made his smile fade instantly.
"Now you have my attention," Annie smirked.
"Not again…" Spencer groaned.
Finally he gets it.
Hope you liked it!
