Get this, I actually managed to outline for once in my life.

Chapter 21

There might be a war pending, but you wouldn't know it by looking from the outside in, especially by looking at the General leading the expedition. Sephiroth was basically on holiday and was doing only the bare minimum to hide it.

His troops had almost jumped on him to make sure he was okay when he came back. Had he not have spent the last three hours drinking quality alcohol and being in excellent company he might have been chagrined. Almost as much as when he was glomped after he told them that they would not be marching, since the one blocking their way was an especially powerful spirit, already dead, and thus only someone dead could hurt her. No damnit he wasn't hurt, he was fine!

That afforded them three months. Three months during which the army could not march.

You find things to occupy yourself with.

The troops were absolutely overjoyed when he announced that due to the lack of possible progress they would be training instead. And far too wiped out by the end of it to notice just where the hell their General was going after. Cloud had been even more overjoyed when his idol was there almost every day. Was it bad that the ten year old had more stamina than the actual army? Meh, that meant he had more to work with. By the time Cloud was old enough to enlist there would be no contest as to whom he felt closer too and thus who he would apprentice under. He loved Genesis but he wasn't letting the redhead snatch the little ray of sunshine.

Too bad all good things must come to an end. Three months of no progress and finally, after call after call after call where nothing seemed to be able to push the General into action and it seemed that the higher-up's wouldn't take anymore. In hindsight they all expected it but Sephiroth didn't know if he should feel giddy of concerned for his comrades when it was Turks that were sent.

This was fine. All was fine.

Sephiroth stood on the beach as the helicopter landed, standing just away enough as to not get flayed by the sand kicked up by the wind generated from the heli blades. 'How inconsiderate' he thought. Couldn't he have used the boat? It would have taken longer but it's not like it would have changed anything. Were they implying that the Turks were better than him and his SOLDIERs, or that he was not to be trusted to solved the company's problems. Whatever the case he was looking forward to this colossal fail. He was already thinking of how he was going to request the Company's apology.

He took a quick glance to the mountain to his left, just wee that cozy little corner Bella had created for herself. Right now she should be there looking down on the entire charade, probably with a nice cup of tea. He hadn't even needed to tell her that there would be Turks coming, since it was put down on file officially her hacker should have already picked up on it. She was the one to contact him first for that matter. She had been concerned that Shin-ra would try to pull a fast one on him, she was so precious.

Finally the Helicopter landed, the doors opened and out stepped probably one of, if not the worse person to have been sent. 'Damnit. Seems it will be a while until I see them again.'

Tseng was really a no brainer, he was from Wutai, he would know the in and outs. However, as already stated, if there was one person that could make this entire thing go titts up, it was Tseng. Tseng being here was a bad thing.

"General." the Turk stepped up to him as another suit jumped out of the helicopter behind him. A head of familiar red hair caught his attention. So Reno was there too. He wondered where Rude was-oh there he was... Wonderful.

"Yo." Reno strutted cheerfully up to them, hands in his pockets and shit-eating grin plastered on his face.

This was not going to end well.

The look Tseng was sending him as Sephiroth handed him the reports was as scathing and as frigid as the frozen plains of the Northern Crater. He loved it. Because, of course, such drivel is so beyond probability. Why, General, you can't expect me to believe this. I'm afraid you are being had. A most ingenious use of Materia.

So of course he had to show them that it was all true. He was just doing his job. No, it was not at all sadistic pleasure and a desire to see the sanctimonious fucks sweat. And the text he shot to his little witch friend was just a warning for her, so she wouldn't get hurt. What did you think it was?

"So~razora no doko made mo-"

Hm, escalated quickly this time. How he loved the smell of Bella's mindfuckery in the morning.

"-benin~garairo no ame ga furu~"

It would have been fun seeing the Turks' reaction, to being run around in circles though...

"chi~ mo tsuchi doko made mo-" It was a very chipper melody, delivered in a fitting childish voice. Going by what little Japanese he knew, the tune did not match the lyrics. Tseng's face had stayed very carefully neutral all the way through, so there was nothing to tip of Reno or Rude. No matter, he could be patient.

"tet~su sabita iro no tsuchi o fumu."

The singing followed them, but at the same time didn't. It always stayed just away enough to be well heard, but the source not seen. Still, never once did it feel like it had anything to do with them. It felt like they had just stumbled in on some natural phenomenon, completely independent of their presence. And it was messing with his companions something fierce.

"Shi~shaki sono amata no urama shiki goto, kono mama se sumarase you~ kai?"

Only problem he had with this though... He was pretty damn sure Bella's voice didn't reach these octaves. And while the voice he was hearing was modified so that it wouldn't be recognized, he was pretty sure that that was Cloud's voice.

He was getting more concerned when the bushes around them started rustling, allowing them glimpses of pale blue.

"i~naho wa o~moku~ toutare, shi ka runi uya mau mono no kage naku~"

It got louder, closer. The foliage shook more swinging serenely in a nonexistent breeze.

And then a giggle.

A little, happy, childish giggle, resounded between the trees, overlapping with the song. They had stopped walking subconsciously, now eyes glued on the rustling brush.

"...aru ji naki dai~chi no hate ni~" little footfalls added to the giggling, from somewhere to their right, upsetting the foliage even more.

Reno was glued on Rude's side with one hand grabbing his partners arm, the other constantly changed the grip on the electro-mag rod he was white knuckling while Rude himself was tightening and slackening his own fists. Sephiroth was not at all surprised that it was the redhead who started cracking first. He was still disappointed that Tseng was not reacting visibly.

"mak~eji o aruku yo"

If he was disappointed then he couldn't imagine how Bella was taking it.

"shikabane no yama o aruku mono ni wa"

Knowing her it was probably a challenge. And from his limited Japanese he was pretty sure 'shikabane' meant 'corpse'. And oh, was that a twitch in Tseng's brow?

"itto fumi ni fumi nao tarinu"

The bushes a ways in front of them rustled more intensely. Still, the singing kept coming from around them.

"iku michi kita michi tadorase wa senu"

The bushes shook even more. Something was approaching.

"keshite modorenu shura no michi"

They got ready and Sephiroth tried not to look hesitant as he drew his own sword. The Turks shot him considering glances as he acted resigned in his actions, getting through the message that it was no use resisting. If he got them unsettled enough perhaps they wouldn't attack immediately and if it was indeed Cloud messing with them, then that would give him time to escape.

He paused in his thoughts. This was Bella, so he doubted she would ever allow Cloud to be in danger. The place was probably rigged to Hell and back, for that exact reason, knowing her.

"Yo wa kaku mo utsuroi"

Wow, he had really gotten attached. And he didn't mind one bit. He was getting excited even, to see this whole thing come to a head.

"sutsuru kami ari hiro~u kami ari."

At that moment the bushes in front of them shook even more. They stood in battle ready stances. Time stood still and sound dampened as something red flew out of the foliage and bounced a couple of times before it rolled to a stop.

A ball.

A really pretty one, but still, a fucking ball.

Sephiroth was dying from denying himself the need to laugh so hard. Even better,Tseng had an ever so slight flush on his cheeks. 'Goddamnit Bella, you're too good to me'

As Reno started cussing and denying the fact that he was ever scared (he was), the bushes rustled again. They tensed again, but not nearly as bad as the first time. He could see the Turks almost relax. They were expecting a child probably. he bet his entire supply of Cold Brew that they were blaming the entire happening to a child's prank right now.

"so~ o wasureru koto keshite yurushi nado senu"

He wondered if they were going to blame the singing on the wind.

He had to bite his lip to stop himself from laughing again.

At last, the flora parted and out came, indeed, a child with golden blonde hair. Dressed in a pale blue kimono he came bounding out of the brush, scampering towards his ball. His little steps however didn't echo as loud as they should. He was the one that had been singing, he still was for that matter. The most unsettling fact about the child though was the fact that he was glowing and, well, he didn't look...all...there...

"So~no kami no na-"

"Yo, Kid. Cut that shit out. It's annoying!" Reno barked at the child. Sephiroth felt a tingle of anticipation as the child , not only didn't stop but took his ball, stood up and slowly turned to face them. He was not disappointed.

"-eitai eita eitai urande ya~rou!"

Oh Goddess the face! It was distorted, the features blurred mostly in the area of the eyes in the place of the eyes and spreading slightly past the nose, just enough to distort the edges of the mouth, making the grin on the child's face look sinister.

The grin widened as the boy let out another giggle, that too having a distorted undertone, as he turned and run to the opposite brush. The running wasn't normal either. Like it was running while submerged in water. Weightless.

Nobody moved for a moment. And just before the little figure disappeared a shot rang out. And then everything was absolutelly quiet.

"Dude! Seriously? A kid?" Reno burst out. He wholeheartedly agreed.

"That was no child, Reno." came the frosty reply from the senior Turk. Funny, coming from the one that insisted this whole farce was caused by materia.

"Oh really and what was it?" the redhead demanded, sounding almost incensed.

"An illusion." Tseng stated with finality.

Sephiroth turned blank eyed to the senior Turk. 'Oh Goddess help me for I am being tested! You are fooling no one Tseng!'

Sound came back all at once, stronger than before and it almost made them stumble. When had it become so silent? The foliage shook fiercely, as if they ha a mind of their own. The howling of the wind almost overwhelmed their senses, only, there was no wind at all. And they knew they had made a mistake. The tune started up again, the childish voice picking up right were he was left of moving further and further away.

And then a second voice joined the first, deeper, more defined feminine. Now they were involved.

"-ashita no yukue wa tsuyu shirazu"

Every line from the child was followed by another from the, presumably female, entity.

At the start, the voices were very well away from each other, one clearly to the left, the other far to the right. But then, after a line sang by the child, the next sounded very, very far to the left, closer to the first. A few lines later, the voice of the child abruptly sounded far on the left behind them, the female voice following.

"sono inori wa dare ga tame no mono ka"

"tou~tou dare mo shiranu mama."

The more they listened to the female voice, the more unsettled they became. It carried a mournfulness, under the cheery tone of the song.

"shuo~risha ni todoku ka."

"sono~ mono~ mo itsu made~?"

The song never once stopped, jumping around and changing in tone, but never stopping.

The woman's song held a subtle, unnerving undertone and it was clearly building up to something. As it changed and became monotonous, it followed the child around, before finally becoming outright mournful, even more than what it had been before. It completely eclipsed the voice of the child who completely stopped singing.

"so~o wa~sureru koto keshite yurushi nado senu~"

So she was going for tonal schizophrenia, unnerving in it's own way. He really wondered how she did it.

On second though he probably didn't.

"eitai eitai eitai eitai eitaieitaieitaieitaieitai-"

It had everyone on edge again because it was rapidly coming closer and it sounded more crazed with every syllable that was uttered. Circling around them rather than echoing from the woods. But it moved around too fast to pin down, so when Reno caught a glimpse of white just beyond his field of vision, of course Tseng had to shoot at it.

The song was cut off by a distressed sob, followed by another and the there was screaming. Hysterical wails and shrieks came thundering from just beyond the treeline, their heads filling with nothing but the infenal noise. He had spoken too soon. Was it this bad the first time? So loud.

So Tsceng went and shot again. At this point Sephiroth was puzzled as to where was he even shooting? 'Also, yeah buddy, keep shooting, that's why it's getting wose. It wants to fool you into thinking it's getting weaker. Soooo~ smart.'

...Wow, he was becoming all the more like Genesis. Bella was a really bad influence.

The screaming did stop, however it was far too abrupt to be considered as normal.

Whatever semblance of calm they had managed to regain was instantly shattered again. The full encounter got him such wonderfull reactions from his companions. Sephiroth had no idea how he managed to not burst out laughing.

But holy shit. Thank Gaia this didn't happen the first time. His men wouldn't have been able to take it. Hell, had he not known it was actually all staged and the psychotropic runes, he himself would be having problems right now.

From the shrubs in front of them came movement. Ever so slowly, a marble white hand, each finger tipped with black claws, reached forward. It grasped futilely, and upon finding nothing to grasp on, it fell forward, dragging a white forearm into view. Finally, it managed to take hold of a trunk to the side, leaving deep marks on the bark with a scrapping sound. And then, from beyond the unexplainable darkness, came a head. A face obscured by pitch black hair, strands caught between black lips and only a wide pearly eye staring at them, crazed. The dainty lips parted to let out a gravelly, scratchy voice, every syllable enunciated, slowly and clearly.

"Dai ta ta tte ya rou"

And then the full figure came out stumbling in to the light. Moving choppily, unnaturally. Black horns glistened, wrapped with strands of black hair, trailing it behind the creature, catching on the vegetation around her. Like she was coming quite literally out of the woods. A shot rang out. The creature stopped moving abruptly and straightened up.

She sobbed miserably, expression crumbling when the aparition laid eyes on the Turk holding the gun. The hand was raised again, now beckoning, gently reaching, caressing the air, as if stroking the cheek of someone beloved, and accompanyied by an expression of pure sadness.

"Doushite...?" her lips trembled. "Wutai no-" She was silenced by another shot and this time she jerked back. A bullet dropped from the centre of her forehead, making a dull thumping sound as it hit the grass floor. She straightened up, but there was not a scratch on her. Her gaze was now cold, the one visible eye glaring murder at the senior Turk.

"Uragirim-" she rasped hatefully, looking down at him.

He shot at her again. Right between the eyes, but she wasn't fazed now, not even staggered. The bullet left a tril of heat emanating from the point of impact as it fell uselessly on the forest floor. Rather, she took a step forward, decisive and with purpose. They tensed, truly for the first time since the little boy had destroyed the tension moments ago. 'Was this what they were going for?' Sephiroth wondered.

Probably. He, again, didn't want to know.

The woman raised her hand, posture straight and elegant. Aristocratic even. Her clothes were more visible now that she was fully out of the brush. The pitch black dress seemed like it was made from the darkness plunging the woods, and the greatly contrasting white robe with it's very wide sleeves made the result look otherworldly. There was a silver chain like belt around her waist, a long piece with hanging ornaments dangled seemingly to their own accord as they swirled lazily around her. The clothes were very obvious as to their high quality, and the cut and seam-stressing was disturbingly immaculate.

She stretched her hand in a very deliberate way, twisting at the wrist until the black painted claws were facing them. Just like that the atmosphere shifted. Gravity changed, an unearthly weight was suddenly pushing down on them, almost bringing them to their knees and an intense sense of terror assaulted them. Cold sweat run down Sephiroth's neck and he could hear rapid breaths from somewhere next to him, he didn't know where or who. All he could feel, all he could focus on was his own heartbeat hammering in his ears, so loud he felt like he was going to go deaf. He could feel his pulse in his eyes and blackness started encroaching in on his vision. But only for a second, next thing he knew everything was back to normal, so sudden it felt like a dream. He could breathe again and it was like nothing had ever happened. He looked around and was proved wrong. The Turk accompaniment was still on the ground and damn near hyperventilating.

"You okay there?" He heard the very familiar voice come from the ghostly figure in front of him. "I pulled it back as soon as I could."

"Goddess you look scary like that?" he found himshelf saying, without really meaning to "I suppose they aren't going to notice?" he motioned to the pile of Turks a couple steps away.

"You know me so well." she preened, one hand perched at her hip and the other sweeping a few locks of hair back. Those motions...did not go well with that appearance "And thank you. I try my best." she smiled, showing rows of pearly white teeth...so perfectly arranged...

How. Did she manage. In. Every. Single. Level...

"So, how is it going to go after this?" He inquired of her.

"I'll try not to bang you up too much." she went to say but he shook his head in disagreement.

"No." he stressed "Go all out. Make it look realistic."

"You sure." she winced, clearly very uncomfortable with the thought.

"Yes." he reasured her and she let out a resigned sigh.

"...Okay then. Back to your spot if you please."

He did, to the best of his ability return to his pre-chat crouch. He heard her take a couple bracing breaths, returning to the character. He looked up and met her eyes. In a glimpse they communicated and her hand raised again. It all returned and he found it very hard to not succumb to her spell again. Just when he felt like it was too much, something impacted him with great force, flinging him back, away from the clearing and way past the treeline. The moment they had lost sight of her, they could suddenly stand again. All four of them scrambled back to their feet and just before regaining their footing, they were knocked back again violently. The wind howled furiously, hitting their faces harshly and making it hard to breathe. Knocked off their feet again, the force didn't stop pushing, now merging with the wind, threatening to lift them up blow them away. suddenly they could't find anything to grasp, everything being just out of reach. Branches and debris pelted them from whenever the winds carried them, and they couldn't always dodge them, every little impact seemed to carry them too far back. For every step up, they were blown back by ten. It was hopeless.

And then they were literally thrown out of the forest in a heap.

Sephiroth leveled a look at Tseng "I look forward to the presentation of your explanation to this phenomenon." He said while standing up. He dusted himshelf off, tried to neaten his hair from the, no doubt horrendous mess it was bound to be, and walked to his Tent, that was warded and so he could laugh to his heart's content.

That night, Sephiroth saw his tent's flap pushed to the side, only for noting to came through. Nothing visible, that is.

Indeed, a few seconds later, Bella removed her invisibility cloak when she was fully inside.

"How did it go." she asked, looking very much excited. Ah the wonders of a well crafted plan coming together...

"Wonderfull. Tseng said he will submit a report corroborating my statements, provided he gets the appropriate "experiences"." his smirk mirrored hers.

"Ooooh! I get to play some more!" she bounced in sadistic excitement, clapping her hands. "Are you okay, though?" she was immediately looking at him concerned.

"Yes, why?"

"Because of the incident in the forest. I could care less for the gangster wannabe's but the rune's got you too, and I know what these thing do. You have the background to trigger some bad stuff." she answered as she looked at him critically, trying to gauge how honest he was with her.

He huffed a laugh and before he could stop himself he had raised a hand, patting her head gently. "You stopped the first wave and I asked for the second one. It's fine"

"Im just concerned!" she defended as she ducked and turned to dislodge the hand.

"I appreciate it." he said and she smiled. But then he remembered something that had been bugging him ever since they were booted from the forest.

"Was that actually Cloud today?"

The Turks stayed in the camp for months, Tseng trying to take the Ghost Lady of The Forest down with increasing frustration. Needless to say he was that was why after three months of consecutive failures he went after "child" when the little boy appeared again, something that went very bad for him when he encountered an apoplectic Ghost Lady instead. It was at that moment that they realized how bad things could have been had the Wutaian Phantom actually sought to do harm before.

Honestly Bella had been ready to give the guy props for venturing not once, not twice but six times so far into her forested little playground. She had been watching the Turks very closely every time they entered. They were persistent too. They knew they were going to be kicked out but they still went on with it. at least they changed their tactics every time...

With them being so persistent she couldn't really change her tactics though. Well she could, but it needed to be properly...established, let's say. She figured out what they were going for the moment it was Cloud's turn to make his appearance. She watched in the Marauder's Map knock off she had mounted on her mountain outcropping. The moment Cloud was sighted they separrated and went about chasing.

"Oh no you do not, you fucks." Bella growled.

Too bad for them they had already gone through that possibility. A quick look at the map and she figured the possible place they would try to herd Cloud to. Bella spread her awareness to the runic arrays she she wanted and led Cloud on the path she wanted him to take. He must have realized what she wanted to do because he even made some token attempts at reaching the escape arches. Bella hershelf was waiting at the place they would eventually end up and directed the runes and arrays to assist Cloud and Her the Turks where she wanted them instead.

It was kind of sad how easy it was to manipulate their path without them even noticing.

Ocasionally Cloud would slow down and she would activate the emergency arrays to teleport him outside of their reach and keep them running in circles. They only realized they were screwed half way in, when they took different drections and ended up bumping into each other after running in a straight line. When Cloud was rested enough he would let out a giggle and she knew to let them continue this farce of a chase.

On the last strech of the chase she had them run arround a bit more so she could raundeveux with Cloud to see how they would end this.

"I can't believe they actually tried this?" The little boy huffed, a bit tired from running and maintaining the appropriate ghostly "strut".

"Yeah...I want to be surprised but I'm not." she growled with a very displeased grimace on her face

"Are you mad Nee-san?" He asked her with a worried little frown.

"Oh I don't know Cloud dear, what do you think?" The witch sighed, carding a hand through her hair.

"So are we going to actually hurt them?"

"Well, there is no "we" here - do not give me that look - you can watch if you want but not participate." she stated sternly, somehow managing to not fall victim to the dreaded puppy eyes.

He pouted at her still, and she couldn't keep the fondness at bay. She kneeled to his level, ruffling the brilliant locks before she kissed his forehead. "I know you're strong dear, but not to the point of crushing them like I have in mind right now. Okay? And I know for a fact that they will play dirty, and if they hurt you, I don't know if I'll be able to hold myself back from killing them." she explained to him, being utterly transparent with her intentions and he nodded in understanding.

"So how are we going to do this?" he asked in the end with a little smirk. She returned it with her own sadistic quirk of the lips.

So on those last few meters of chase, Cloud led them to the final clearing where the Turks converged, thinking they had him cornered. So instead of the confrontation they expected, Bella came out of the trees, in all her vengeful glory instead. Cloud visibly and deliberately lit up and with an exclamation of "Nee-san!" and dove into her arms. Their looks of 'Oh Shit' when she picked him up and caressed his face lovingly was truly priceless. A last activation of the escape runes had Cloud disappearing in a pale bluish mist and she was free to turn all her fury onto them.

Immediately clouds gathered and their surroundings darkened significantly, however all the darkness gathered just beyond the treeline with the vegetation swaying around ominously. They knew that there was no getting out of this without beating her. As gravity doubled again and the winds howled she let a multi pitched growl reverberate around the clearing before she cranked the psychoactive runes a little bit more.

It was the first time she used all her resources to achieve a goal and by the end of it the Turks were a broken and traumatized pile of limb the vines threw out of the forest in a right rip-off of Lovecraftian mythos.

Tseng never again ventured into the forest and Sephiroth informed her that the Turk submitted his corroborative report the moment he was well enough to write.

Bella picked her phone up very fast when Sephiroth called her a couple hours later. She didn't even have time to speak.

"Are you two alright?" the worry in his voice was very obvious. He mustn't have been informed at all.

"Yes dear, we are just fine." she placated "We had contingency plans. Doesn't mean I actually expected to use them." she explained after she heard him take another breath to continue speaking. he allowed himshelf a breath o relief as well.

"I'm dealing with this right now and I'm comming right after." he replied with finality.

"I'll activate the arch and send you the directions." Bella consented as she knew that Sephiroth would want to see it with his own eyes.

Barely an hour passed and Sephiroth just about barged into her sitting room, making her jump and Cloud startle away from his game, eyes landing on them immediately. She congratulated him for looking as collected as he was. Surprisingly elegant in all his hurried glory. He visibly relaxed, features softening as he proceeded into the room with far less urgency andsat himself on the couch a bit away from Cloud and in an equal distance from her on the adjacent one.

"What could we offer you this wonderful evening, General?" she demurred with a smirk.

"The alcohol we had the first day I came here" he wanted something strong.

"Tell you what, I have a nice tea it blends very nicely with." she proposed, seeing his thought process.

"Doesn't tea have cafeine?" That would not serve his purposes well.

"Not to worry, It's a very calming combination." she assured with a knowing smile

He sighed but nodded nonetheless "Then, yes please."

She nodded with a gentle smile and stood up, going to prepare the brew, leaving Sephiroth with Cloud.

There was silence for a moment, none of the two willing to start as they both looked everywhere else than the other, thankfully broken when, Cloud's character let out a screech of pain.

"Oh shit!" the blonde turned back to the game on the screen. The older of the two let out a chuckle as the little boy stumbled to fend of the on screen ghosts with...was that a camera?

"Is that the camera your sister was ecstatic about all those months ago."

"Yep. That's the world they pilfered the designs from."

"They actually work?" He couldn't help but ask.

"Surprisingly. They are apparently very hard to produce and thus get your hands on." Cloud had managed to get the situation under control, now having his character walk into a dark room and head towards another silhouette in a corner. The silhouette on the screen turned to face the character revealing something very...striking...about her face.

"It would appear the designs were not the only things you pilfered from that world." Sephiroth drawled with a sideways look. "It explains the disruption from the reports."

The Chocobo haired blonde pouted, that devastating pout of his and retaliated "Well, it's effective!"

"I don't disagree." he recalled the unnerving sight and held back a shudder. "And today?"

"Well, it was a bit nerve-wracking at first" Cloud paused the game and leaned fully back on the couch. "But the moment I started feeling even a bit unsure, I was out of reach immediately and they were running around in literal circles so there was no real danger to begin with." he explained with a shrug.

"So they never attached you." The silver haired man relaxed even more -

"The guy with the dot between the eyes tried to shoot at me once." Cloud mentioned, as if talking about the weather and Sephiroth stiffened immediately upon that revelation, swiveling to look at the little boy, worry clear in his eyes.

"Don't worry, the gun jammed." he comforted the worried man. "It was the safety protocols."

Sephiroth reclined heavily back on the couch letting out a sigh of relief.

"Hey" he helt a tug at his sleeve. "I'm really okay." the little boy tried to reassure him and Sephiroth couldn't help the little soft quirk of his lips. He gently ruffled the blond locks, turning the worried frown the boy wore into a put upon pout.

"What kind of safety protocols?" he inquired not moving his hand from the blond locks.

"Well, the gun jammed that one time, and I was taken away from them the moment I got tired, or was in the slightest danger, or got worried." he listed "And they were trapped in a specific space until and if I wanted to continue again." he continued. "And the runes would appear and open up paths for me to take."

"Very extensive." he remarked, honestly impressed at the scale of it.

"Nee-san is paranoid." the boy gave him a bland look.

Sephiroth huffed out a laugh.

"Hello boys, I'm back!" Bella came back carrying a tray with their drinks, long skirt flowing behind her.

"You didn't need to make me anything" Cloud commented as he sipped his hot chocolate. The little boy shook his head like a kitten when the older man took his hand from his hair to grasp his glass.

"You got shot at -" "There was no bullet." "- of course I'd make you something nice." the witch said in a matter of fact tone ignoring the deadpan stare coming from Cloud.

Sephiroth took a sip from his warm ale. He registered a fragrant undertone, covering the heavy scent of the alcohol. A nice rosy one.

"I suppose that's why you broke all of Tseng's fingers?" he brought up conversationally and Cloud huffed in his cup.

It was her turn to look at him with a deadpan look. He ignored her and continued. "I was curious actually. They came back...surprisingly intact." he looked into his glass, watching the hazel colloured liquid lap at the sides.

She hummed into her cup. "I remember Angeal telling me that Zack was friendly with some of the Turks, but I didn't know whom. I didn't want accidentally kill one oh his friends" she admitted.

He was very surprised at that. "Don't Turks generally look down on SOLDIERs?" the blonde asked with an adorable little smirk on his face. The irony wasn't lost on him either it seemed.

"Plus, the other two weren't fully in on it." she further explained "And I had a reason I grind Tseng into the dirt so much."

"It seems we didn't really need to worry about you after all." he recalled how strongly they had stressed the point of her not confronting any Turks.

"Don't give me that much credit on that front." she dismissed the comment with a hand motion "I had the time to set the stage for that." she explained her reasoning when he gave her a speculative look. "The worst thing you can do when dealing with a Runesmaster is let them set up shop. Because when it comes to Runes, as long as it can be written down then it will happen. It's why Runes are so hard in the first place."

"Out of curiosity, what do those protocols involve?" he downed his glass and reached for the pitcher. There was a little chuckle from Cloud and he suddenly felt even less confident about dismantling the wards she set in the future.

"It's a variety of interconnected arrays, all structured with intent wards in the basis. The Runesmaster, so me, gets alerted at every change that might occur inside the wards so I can act accordingly, if I don't want to let the default setting to come into place. That way I get control of the environment inside the wards, without being overburdened with every little change that happens." Both he and Cloud shot her disbelieving looks "Fine, too overburdened." she huffed.

"And that involves spontaneous telleportation and entrapment." he contemplated throwing the glass back again.

"One of the escape oriented protocols." she elaborated. That was not what he was asking.

"One of them?"

"Yes, There are two of them." Bella seemed to not have noticed the resignation in his tone. "The other teleports the chosen party out of the forest."

"Is that how the teams end up at the mouth of the campsite?" Then a detail caught Sephiroth's attention "Aren't they cosidered the enemy though?

"Correct on both accounts. That is why my wards are intent based, with me in the driving seat, basically." she explained

"Not overburdened I see." he stated, voice laced with sarcasm.

"Oh shut up." she huffed petulantly.

"The fact that you personally dealt with this farce though leads me to believe that you are building a narrative." The silver haired man decided he wasn't getting anywhere on that point so he moved on.

"Exactly." she clapped her hands once to emphasize. "Tseng is a Wutaian, working as, what is basically a spy, for Shin-ra, the current enemy of not only Wutai, but the whole bloody Planet. In the forest that first time, when he shot me in the middle of when I was speaking, I was calling him a traitor. And he interrupted me. He didn't like me pointing that out. Now, from the perspective of a vengefull ghost, with a grudge against Shin-Ra, how would that seem?" she further elaborated on her train of though.

"I see." He nodded along, as he could see the logic in it "Where do we go after this?" he had to ask.

"I continue with how I've been doing up till now. We push Shin-ra to pull back and reinstate the peace."

"That would eventually require negotiations and the Village is unreachable at this point." He pointed out.

"Indeed. That needs an established contact. How much have you raged on the Turks for that stunt today?" Bella's tone betrayed how much amusement she felt about what was going to happen next.

"Not as much as I would have liked." Sephiroth admitted honestly

"I see. I suppose they didn't run anything by you either then?" that was not really of question but she went and asked anyway, hiding he smirk behind her glass.

"Correct."

"So they don't know about the "offerings"?" she smirked.

"Quite indeed." So this was how it was going to go...

A couple days later, Reno entered the General's tent, still bandaged up in places and sporting a very nice limp. The fact that days after the fact, they had not yet fully recovered, spoke volumes of the damage she had heaped upon them. He wondered how tseng was doing with a sense of satisfaction.

"Yo general." he did a two finger salute, shit eating grin plastered on his face. "Out of curiosity, how exactly did you deal with the Lady situation?" he slouched at the entrance of the tent. He was remarkably unfaltering when the General leveled his blank gaze on him.

"'Took you long enough...' "I was respectful." he chose to say instead, curtly as he turned his eyes back on the maps he was looking over. He had managed to pinpoint some possible locations for the runic anchors Bella had placed.

Reno blinked. He said nothing for a moment and Sephiroth knew just then that none of them had even had that though. Had this been an actual haunting they would have all been dead already.

"Pardon me?"

"Exactly what you've heard." He continued dismissively.

"And what do you mean by that General?" Reno asked, almost delicately. There was a particular twitch on his lips that Sephiroth mighty disliked. And the tone, despite Reno trying to hide it, held a note of derision.

"I mean, Reno of the Turks, that I treated the Phantom with respect. We clearly saw that the approach we were originally using was yielding no success. And as it was proven, not barging in needlessly, but following the example of the Wutaians that ventured into the forest, was a far more successful solution." he put force into his voice, channeling all the frustration and anger he held over the incident. It was enough for the redhead to realized that he had chosen his words poorly and backtrack, falling into defense.

"And what was that new approach?"

"Not shoot at the child spirit, for starters. The woman get's agitated if he's put in danger" "But I suppose you have already realized that." he let his own derision seep into his voice and reveled in the way Reno's fists tightened, making his gloves creek. "I suppose you have taken enough jaunts into the local flora to notice a few out of place additions." He continued speaking.

"You mean the red string arches littered around the forest?"

"Exactly those. You should have noticed the shrines set up behind them."

"You know of them?"

"SOLDIER may indeed be focused on strength but we are not imbeciles." the General answered sharply "Since, we weren't the one's to set them up, we assumed it was Wutai who did so. Following that though process, it would mean that Wutai has more passage into the forest than us. If the Phantoms are not protecting Wutai then they are in the least indifferent to them. We only followed their example." He paused for effect and turned to look the redhead in the eye. "And things were going better when we did so."

"Really?" Reno said a bit faintly

"Indeed" and Sephiroth turned back to his desk, refusing to elaborate.

"Really?!"

"Are you hard of hearing?"

"What...exactly did you do, if I may ask?"

'Sacrifices' he thought fondly. "I gave up some of my best alcohol." he said instead, as serious as he could. With the way Reno was looking at him it was a hard thing too. "Ask your superior if you don't believe me." he dismissed the Turk.

They hadn't time to celebrate. As it seemed, they though that if they couldn't get rid of one individual facet of the problem, than they should nix the entire problem.

Angeal was on his way from the training room, enjoying the pleasant burn all over his body. he stretched, a big, content stretch and he reached for one of the towels hanging at the side of the training rooms. It felt nice to train in his own pace and t the extent he wanted. Don't get him wrong, training with company was very efficient and pleasant in it's own way, but training on one's own had it's own benefits.

Quite frankly, Angeal liked the quiet because it let him think. When he didn't have to worry about getting skewered or burned to death then he could concentrate on the happenings around him and then decide on his way of action. Coincidentally, everyone else cleared the rooms the moment he entered with that particular look in his eyes. He didn't know why, honestly.

He snagged the water bottle he had left on a bench by the entrance to the changing rooms. He leisurely left the training rooms, fully intent on heading back to his apartment, if only he hadn't been met with chaos once he reached the elevators.

He caught up to a group of infantrymen that seemed to be involved in the kerfuffle, out of curiosity really. "Hey,what's going on?"

"Sir?!"

"You haven' been told yet?" The infantryman asked and by his tone, he realized that neither did he.

"Been told what?"

"About Wutai, Sir." another one asked.

Angeal knew a lot about Wutai. Thing is, Shin-Ra seemed to not want him to know, apparently. So he feigned ignorance and waited to hear the damage.

"There's been an attack sanctioned." Okay, nothing new here, so why did he feel dread creep up his spine?

"Really? I haven't been informed." he crossed his arm in response.

"Yes, Sir. they are sending a bomber." the third one answered, validating the bad feeling he had.

Wait. Hold the damn phone.

They weren't serious right?

"Excuse me?" Angeal focused very hard to try to keep his hostility from seeping into his voice, the poor infantrymen did not deserve it.

"You really haven't been briefed Sir? The attack is scheduled at tomorrow afternoon." The poor man was sweating, relizing that if Commander Hewley was unaware then the same probably went for General Sephiroth since him and the two Commanders were very good friends.

"What time trooper?" his mind was going a mile a minute, already calculating how much time they possibly had till the attack.

"Twenty hundred hours Sir. But Sir, I-" Yeah if he was not involved then that meant they couldn't talk to him.

They coudn't be...

"It's okay trooper, and thank you. I can assure you that I have not been informed of anything of the sort." his response was a monotone one. Since Sephiroth was definitely not given any kind of order, the attack was either going to be a small one so as to not hurt their own forces. Which meant that this was probably some ass backwards fear tactic, but still!

"Not a problem Sir. Glad to be of assistance Sir."

He dismissed the group and left, very quickly finding himself in his own home, activating the privacy arrays. He had his phone to his ear before he noticed, the witch's number dialed and already ringing. 'Pick up...Please pick up now!' he pleaded, sat hunched on his couch. The longer more he heard of her unnerving ringtone, all the more desperate he got.

Nothing.

"Fuck!"

He dialed again. Still nothing. He dialed Sephiroth next. "Come on..." Thank the Goddess he picked up.

"Yes-" Sephiroth had barely managed to let the word out.

"They're sending a bomber!" he blurted out the moment he heard his friend's voice.

"What?"

"Goddamn-" Angeal felt like pulling his hair out. Any other time he would be willing to justify the disbelief from the other line but not this time "They're sending a bomb!" Not when they had little more than a day to prepare for this.

"Fuck! Bella?" Sephiroth had gotten a grasp of the situation and Angeal could hear the teeth grinding on the other side of the phone.

"Not answering!"

"When?" The dread he heard only fed into his own.

"Tomorrow. Sceduled at eight in the afternoon."

"Fuck! I'll deal with it." The General promised and hurriedly hung up and Angeal could finally sigh in relief. He trusted that Sephiroth would come to the same conclusion he had. He steadied his breaths and picked his phone up to call Genesis. He needed someone to be angry with right now.

Once Sephiroth hung up he, himself went to dial his father - unknowingly mirroring Angeal actions in Midgar.

He was very relieved when the man picked up his phone within seconds. Unlike Angeal however, he didn't let the other speak. "Shin-Ra's sending a bomber plane. Probably small. Where's Bella?"

"In her Lab. ETA?"

"Eight in the afternoon." His father smothered a cuss on the other end.

"I'll get her. Anything else?"

"Nothing. Angeal told me."

"Wonderfull" he must have realised that it was news to the General as well. A pause. "Stay there."

'Damn.' He was right though, he had no reason to go to meet bella now, no excuse to enter the forest and he had to maintain his 'alibi' so to say. He would have to wait for Bella or his father to contact him instead

"Oh you have got to be kidding me!" Very much justified a reaction, Vincent could say.

He had her attention the moment he knocked on the door of her lab, but the moment he delivered the news, he could see her brain throw a bank. the way her expression circled from curiously concerned, to disbelieving and finally incredulously angry would have been very entertaining, had they not had a bomb quite literally hanging over their heads.

"You said eight, right? That mean a little over a day. And Seph didn't know either?" she muttered incredulously. "So it's probably a small one. Fear tactics?" she grimaced.

"Sephiroth thinks so too." Vincent answered her and the witch chuckled in disgust.

She took a couple of breaths. "Okay, I can work with this." she snapped her fingers to tidy up her lab as she rushed out with purpose. "Tell the others for me?" she turned around to his mid stride, going backwards. He turned around himself and raised his hand dismissively.

In quick movements she had her phone out and was already writing a letter to the Emperor. Andrew should have already contacted her, so the fact that he hadn't, meant that it was either a very quick and rushed operation, or it was put somewhere the hacker couldn't reach.

This was bad, very bad. But still, something inside her told her not to be so worried, that there was the potential to turn the situation around. If they played their cards right. She had to discern which of the two possibilities was true first though.

As she was finishing up the letter for the Emperor she called Sirius.

"Yes Pup?" The ever jovial voice of her Godfather calmed her down a bit.

"Did the President say anything about a bomb?" she asked with no further delay.

"Come again?" So that was a 'no' then. "I am with him right now. Bastard's been getting drunk for two hours now!" so it was not the tab of lard's doing after all.

She felt a chuckle escape her unbidden. Oh this could become very good for them indeed.

"Tell me Dogfather mine, how do you feel about some good old fashioned sabotage?"

"I'm aaall~ ears Pup." he sounded as excited as she felt.

She instructed Sirius to follow the bomber. Then she called Andrew.

She didn't wait for him to talk "Andrew, get in contact with Reeve. Someone is sending a bomber plane to Wutai and I want to know who it is."

"All over it Boss." the Reaper hung up and she rushed to continue working.

As she waited for her Reapers to get back to her with their tasks she went to prepare the field. While she didn't need to do as much as she would normally have to, as she was very thoroughly prepared for most types of assault, there was still quite a lot of things that needed to be done.

The extension for the barrier did not need much work. From there though, things only got harder. She would need to set up a separate zone of influence over the forest and the city, along with an extra dome covering the village itself. That would need a lot more work if she wanted it to have the effects she had in mind and if she wanted to add the extra security protocols. There we people here and she wasn't risking it.

Sirius called a couple of hours later, with very good news.

"Hey Prongslet, guess what?" he greeted her cheerfully and she smiled.

"Oh dear, I hope it's good news Padfoot." she responded rhetorically, taking the time to look over her work and take a breather.

"Well, your fan-club wants in on this little mission of our's." that gave her pause.

"You're kidding, right?" she pinched the bridge of her nose in disbelief.

"No I am not. And they are a goldmine of information too. Apparently Shin-ra uses very specific vessels for these operations, and just look at that, we have some former employees of their's here. What luck, you were very much correct in your assumptions, right?" Sirius siad gleefully, a fanfare of enthusiasm sounding from his side on the background.

"Oh? Then can you disarm the bombs and get the hatch to fail?" she asked with a smirk of her own.

"Oh I don't know...Can we guys?" he yelled and she could hear the resounding assent coming from the background. "Easy peasy! Anything else?" she knew he was grining as well and well...

"Actually..." she felt a smirk of wicked glee spreading on her face.

Following that call, Andrew called back

"Hey Boss~ I got your info! It's Heidegger's doing." he rushed to inform her. That information helped clear up the picture even more.

Wonderfull.

"Thank you Andrew dear. Think you can keep an eye for anything new?"

"Yes, Reeve's helping with this one." Oh, go figure. Even better for them.

"Thanks for the good work."

"Pleasure Boss."

With renewed enthusiasm she stretched and went back to work. She knew exactly what she wanted to do now.

The hours passed too fast for anybody's liking and before anybody knew it, the time of the attack was very near.

Even when a message came, citing that the preparations were ready, hours before the attack, no one was in any way comfortable. All they could do was wait.

Early that morning Sephiroth was given the order not to enter the forest for the day. He really wanted to run the one who wrote the document through with Masamune. He just stared at the email on his Phs and wondered if they were trying to piss him off or they were just that incompetent. At least they were told them not to go waltzing into the place they were dropping a fucking bomb... he still flayed them in the return message.

Me:

- We just got the order to stay away from the forest.

Bella:

- Oh Thank FUCK!

- Small vessel?

Me:

- Correct. They'll drop some in the surrounding woods and on some buildings.

Bella:

- Thought so

- I'm close to done here.

- Est.2h.

- Tell the others for me?

Me:

- Alright.

- Be safe.

Sephiroth put his phone away and got ready to relay the order. he was nowhere near relieved but he was a little bit less anxious. Just as he was about to get out of the tent the phone dinged again.

Bella:

- Stay there, okay? ;p

He shook his head with a smile.

Bella, having finished with her preparations had just gotten out of her meeting with the Emperor. The man had been rightfully anxious, but had been willing to follow her instructions when she explained everything. Well, explained in exhaustive detail. As she exited the office her phone beeped, the alarm she had set up for seven going off. From the office where the door hadn't closed yet, she and Goto exchanged a look and she nodded with a smile as she waved him goodbye.

She looked up at the blue sky and let a wicked smirk paint her features and a shudder of anticipation went through her.

"Bring it on you asshats."

It was half past seven. And up on her cozy little corner on the cliff face she could faintly see a dark dot heading their way from the mainland. Weird that they decided to fly in that direction but it was okay. Besides her Vincent was standing in anticipation, hand flexing around the back of het chair. She leaned back, pressing her back to his fingers. She looked up at him as he looked down at her and she smiled a consoling smile. Vincent sighed at her confidence and turned back to the front. "Have some tea Vince." She poked his arm and held a cup up to him. The vessel of Chaos geve her the most blank look he could manage as if asking "Really now?"

Bella laughed and patted his arm. "It's gonn' be fi~ne." She comforted again, taking a sip of her own tea.

"I hope so." He drawled and finally took his mug, sipping at the warm liquid.

"Oh look at that! I can see the plane!" she shaded her eyes. Her lips twisted in an exciting grin.

Indeed, he could discern the silhouette of the plane Shin-ra used as bombers.

"Cheers, dear." The witch laughed and Vincent turned his eyes skyward.

The plane came closer and closer, almost silent, anticipation rising. And just as it was right over the trees, it passed.

Wai-what?

Bella chuckled. Vincent turned to her abruptly and she laughed. "What? Were you expecting a show?"

Her phone rang and she quickly picked it up. His enhanced hearing allowed him to listen in on the conversation and she just shot him sideways look accompanied with a little grin.

"So what do you want us to do with those inactive bombs, Prongslet?"

"Bring them here, I have a couple ideas." she answered "And bring the one's with you here after you're done. You all deserve a reward for the excellent work." she added before hanging up. "You were saying?" she finally turned to look at him.

Vincent sighed. "I never should have doubted you." He answered as dryly as he could.

"Can't you try being a little more sincere?" she pouted up at him. "Just you wait until we pilfer those poor agent's reports." she crossed her arms like a child.

"I'm sure they will be very entertaining..." he responded sarcastically, just to rill her up. She huffed and he his his smirk behind his cup.

And he paused. "Where's the plane?"

Bella laughed again.

Sephiroth on the other hand was waiting anxiously as the time neared. He tried to busy himself but nothing kept his attention. Finally after what felt like eons his ears caught the muted whirring of Shin-Ra's bombers. He stood up hurriedly and almost run to get out of his tent. Just as his hand reached for the fabric he was deafened by a very loud noise.

Fuck they were already dropping them!

Another boom and the another and he felt like his eardrums would rupture. He really didn't want to get out of the tent, just at the thought that it could get even a little louder. But he had to see the carnage for himself.

The sound was going further as he got out of his tent. He could see many of his men outside as well, the SOLDIERs among them were clearly suffering from the noise. All of them looking at the forest, and he could see why.

It was carnage. Thick smoke rose to the sky from the point of impact, reds and yellows glowing beyond the trees. He didn't know if it was the the dusk colouring the horizon or the fire caused by the bombs. He could smell the ozone in the air. The smoke, even if it was so far away...he could still feel it clogging his throat and lungs.

Unbidden and unwanted, a shiver crawled down his spine. If it was anxiousness or excitement he didn't know. At this point he could only hope for the best. As the sound of impact ceased the Silver General took the time to brace himself for the return trip of the bomber. He swallowed and felt his ears pop. Steeling himself, Sephiroth panned his gaze over the men watching the carnage along with him, eyes landing on Tseng.

"This should make thing easier." he drawled in his direction, taking a weird sort of pleasure at the way the Turk's brow twitched.

"It should General."

One of the infantrymen got his attention. "Excuse me, Sir?"

He turned to the man, dismissing the Turk in the process. "Yes, Private Silvan?"

"Aren't those bomber's supposed to turn around for another go?"

Actually yes, They were. "You are right Private." He answered with a, now very, familiar feeling.

"Then Sir?..." The poor man was having the same feeling "...you don't think?" he couldn't finish the sentence.

Sephiroth shook his head "I don't know, Private."

The sound of the plane could no longer be heard.

Hours later, the sun having long set, Sephiroth heard the buzzing again. His heart leapt to his throat and he rushed outside. The bomber was there, now completing it's round. He watched in bafflement as the plane passed over the forest, overtook it and flew back to where it had originally come from.

"Damnit Bella." he scoffed and got back inside. There were going to be some wonderful news very soon.

Oh, did they...

"What do you mean you lost a plane for three hours?!"

Bella laughed hysterically when Sephiroth contacted her the next morning.

"Nee-san your psycho is showing" Cloud droned from her right, not raising up from his pancakes.

The witch pouted childishly "Muu. Cloud you're being mean~" she whined causing him to shoot her a blank look. It didn't work. Bella just ruffled his hair with a giggle.

"Really though. What did you do?" The little boy asked.

"Ask Sephiroth. Trust me, he will want someone to rant to." she winked at him.

An untouched forest and village, three hours of lost time and a month later Sephiroth got the order to try and establish a connection to reinstate the peace.

Thankfully the plane had come in an aircraft carrier so it didn't crush into the ocean due to loss of fuel.

TP comes in klutz for me again, i've been kinda living for these the last couple months. "Nibanmemono" / The Second Performance "Cursed God".

I had to do research for this one and I still think I botched some parts. Feel free to correct me in the reviews, that allows me to fix my mistakes and become a better writter.

I'll try to at least write something before the mont ends but I have a bunch of exams this month so I don't make any promises.

Thank you for your patience and thank you for reading!

Have a very nice day, and month for that matter
