Rey decided to turn their dream world into a nice cushy bedroom. Her mind had gotten out of the gutter, mostly. She picked a place that they both knew, though, closing her eyes to form the walls, wanting to get it just right. She pictured the wood floor, covered in a rich blue carpet in some places. The canopy bed had four posts carved out of wood and painted to look gold. The outside of the canopy was a navy blue that matched the floor, but on the inside of the canopy, where one looked up as if at the ceiling, were embroidered crystals meant to look like stars. The pillows were large and fluffy, with gold tassels on the end accenting them. At the foot of the bed was a small backless chaise with the same star pattern as the canopy, except that the stars were thread. There was a fireplace in the corner with a crackling fire warming the room. The lighting was dim, just a couple of wall sconces holding candles. Rey gave it an appreciative nod, taking a step back to admire her handiwork.
Ben had arrived to the room just as she started placing the finishing touches on it. He leaned against the wall behind her, not wanting to interrupt. As the room changed around him, memories flooded back to him of the time they had spent in this room when they were younger. It was his childhood bedroom in his mother's house on Coruscant.
"Ben, I've stared at this for so long that I can't tell if you were lying about the constellations or not. My eyes are making things up," Rey whined. She rolled over on her side and poked him hard.
"Uuuuugh, five more minutes," he groaned, rolling over. To tell you the truth, there were no constellations, but he had told her that she needed to find at least two so he could take a nap.
"Ben, I want to play."
"Rey, you should be training."
"Well, in that case, you should be teaching-not sleeping!" she said, tackling him.
"You've got me there," he sighed."What do you want to learn?"
"I can learn whatever I want?" she gasped.
"Whatever you want that I know how to do," he added.
"In that case, I want to learn how to levitate things."
"I don't think you're ready for that," Ben replied.
"You said I could learn whatever I wanted," she quipped.
"Fine, fine. Sit up straight," he told her as he propped his head up on his arms. She quickly moved to sit with her legs crossed and arms straight.
"Now what?"
"Close your eyes. You need to concentrate on levitating yourself first. Once you know how to levitate yourself, then you it will be a lot easier to make anything else levitate. Picture yourself becoming lighter than air. As you let out your breath, you're losing weight, allowing you to float," Ben instructed.
Rey did as she was told, feeling herself fall into a meditative state. She tried to picture herself as becoming weightless, not needing to succumb to the rules of gravity, but it was so hard.
"Ben, I don't think this is working," she replied.
"See for yourself," Ben chuckled.
Rey slowly opened one eye and saw that she was a foot off the mattress and rising. She could feel the top of her head skim the canopy.
"I did it!" She remarked, however her momentary loss of focus caused her to come plummeting back down onto the mattress.
"Yes, you did, but you just have to remember to keep that focus. Now, try levitating something else, like this pillow," Ben said, holding up a pillow.
Rey had an even better idea. She closed her eyes and reached out her hand towards Ben. She pictured him becoming weightless and levitating. She opened her eyes to see Ben lifting off the mattress and chuckled.
"Very funny, Sunshine," Ben deadpanned.
At that moment a knock sounded at the door. "Ben, it's time for dinner!"
"I'll be there in a minute, mother!" he called back. He looked at Rey, gesturing for her to put him down.
She rolled her eyes and relaxed her hand, letting him crash down to the mattress.
"Well, I thought it was funny," she said as she slid off the bed and they went to have dinner.
Ben slinked up behind Rey, wrapping his arms around her waist. He placed a kiss to the crook of her neck.
"It's just like how I remembered," he murmured into her skin.
"I hoped you would like it. I figured you would want to see home again after being welcomed back by your mother," Rey replied.
"I see home whenever I'm with you," he whispered.
"Ben Solo, that is quite possibly the sweetest thing you've ever said to me," she chuckled.
"What? You're a nobody didn't do it for you?" he smirked. She elbowed him in the stomach, shocked to find that she didn't feel and fabric there.
"I thought you were going to put clothes on," she remarked, turning around.
"I put on pants," he shrugged. Rey couldn't help herself. Her eyes trailed from his still damp hair down his chest, tracing the curves of his abs.
"I can put on more clothes if you'd like," he said, and after watching her take him in he added, "or I could take off more."
Rey felt like her face was on fire. She felt his gaze boring into her. The heat in them felt like they could melt her. He reached out a hand to cup her face, tracing a finger across her cheek.
"Ben, I don't want the first time to be like this," she swallowed, "I don't want it to be just a dream, no matter how real it feels."
Ben nodded and closed his eyes. A shirt appeared on his body. He scooped up Rey and plopped her down on the bed before laying down next to her, pulling her into his arms. He gently stroked her hair as they laid together.
"How was the rest of your day?" he asked her. Rey could almost laugh at how normal this all felt. In another life this could have been normal. She could have just been a woman coming home to her husband to talk about the day she had had out on the farm or wherever she worked. In another life they wouldn't be fighting a war and having to steal time with each other in a dream.
"I talked to Finn about us and everything," Rey replied. She could feel Ben stiffen beside her.
"And? How did that go?"
"He took it really well. He's happy that I'm happy," she responded. She heard Ben let out a sigh of relief.
"Finn's a good friend to you. I hope he can forgive me for what happened," Ben murmured. Rey noticed that his strokes were coming less frequently.
"Ben Solo, are you falling asleep on me?" she whispered.
"Mmmm," was the response she was met with.
"Good night," Rey smiled and snuggled into him. She was getting sleepy, too. Being held like this was comforting. Soon enough, she fell asleep as well.
When she awoke, she was alone in her bunk, but she could still feel the residual warmth of Ben at her back. She looked over at her wall and sighed. She was growing frustrated at how long it was taking to turn her dreams into a reality.
