Blue quartz did not think that the whole fiasco with the centipede would get this much coverage. Things only got worse from that point; corrupted gem monsters attacked the city now and then people swarmed her every time she made a public appearance. It was nerve-racking; she was not a celebrity and did not know how to deal with so much attention. Back in her home dimension, things like a corrupted gem monster were common things. Humanity understood that the gems were more than qualified to deal with this threat.
Her belt already recharged, and despite that, she decided to stay for one last day to repay her human host for his hospitality. It surprised her how quickly he and his daughter warmed up to her, despite having no obligation at all to help.
Error, shield deployment protocol unavailable
"What is the name of the cosmos are you talking about Dot? I thought everything would be good after a reboot?
Apologies Blue Quartz, but I seem to be incapable of repairing the error
Creator Peridot overlooked the possibility of such thing occurring
"I was having a great day and this happens to me, why does the multiverse hate me? What have I done to deserve such bad luck?"
Apologies if I caused such distress Blue Quartz; it was never my intention to do so
"Don't worry about it Dot, I'm just frustrated and needed to rant for a bit. I have to ask a question, are there any things I need to worry about if I used the belt without the shield's protection?"
Unknown, although, there is a high chance that the pain you've experienced might occur again
Other possible side effects might happen because of unsafe dimensional travel.
"Great more crap I have to deal with, I'll talk to you later Dot."
The gem was left to her own devices as Dot became silent again. This was her last day here, and she planned to make it memorable. There were no more corrupted gems to hunt down, and with her host and his daughter out of the house, there was nothing for her to do.
Hours later
At the dinner table, Blue did not touch her food, her mind occupied by the thought of how to break this up to her human friends. The Quartz grew fond of both the man and his daughter, and it pained her that she was leaving.
"Blue you barely touched your food, is there anything you want to tell us?" the man asked.
The gem sighed; this is the time where she tells them that she is leaving.
"Not sure how I tell you this guy, but this is the last meal we will be sharing. My belt's batteries finished recharging this morning and I wanted to wait for you to come home."
As soon as those words left her mouth, the young girl sitting across abandoned her food and chair and went directly to cling to the gem's massive arm.
"No you can't leave, daddy please tell her she can't leave." The girl said burying her face in the blue bicep. The sounds of her muffled crying can be heard as the gem turned her attention to her and embraced the girl.
"I'm sorry Maria, but I have to go away. I have friends that might need my help, and I would hate myself if anything bad happened to them." The gem said, wiping away the tears off the little human's face.
"She's right sweetie; you remember what she told us right? She said that one day she has to leave, and we promised to let her go." Lucas said, trying to remind his stubborn daughter about her promise weeks ago.
"But I don't want to, she's my best friend and I don't want her to leave."
"Sorry hon but this is how things are supposed to go sometimes," Lucas said, trying to pry off the crying child away from their soon to be a former guest.
The quartz shook her head, and the men reluctantly let go. She kept hugging the child, and it took some time for the girl to calm down.
"Why don't we finish dinner and watch some Disney movies after that, I promise it will be fun." The alien said, making the sniffling girl nod.
The dinner was finished quickly and the trio, Lucas was already asleep by the time they reached half of the movie. Maria still clinging to the blue giantess looked up to her.
"Do you have to leave?" the little girl asked, hoping that the gem would say no.
"Sorry, kiddo but I have to do it, my friends need my help and I have to deliver the gem monsters that I have in my pocket dimension back to the temple."
"What does the temple look like?"
"Like a giant eight-armed woman, but parts of it broke down because the place is very old. I've seen the inside and it was beautiful."
The conversation lasted till the child released a small yawn, and that put an end to their talk.
"Come on kiddo, time to go to bed." The sentient gemstone said carrying the already sleeping child in one arm.
After putting her in bed, and making sure that the child is asleep, the gem returned to the living room where she found that Lucas woke up. The man looked tired, but gave her an appreciative smile for putting his daughter in bed and went straight for his bedroom.
"I wonder what Steven is doing right now?" the gem asked as she went back to her guest room.
Meanwhile in another universe
"This donut is delicious; I should get one for Blue when she returns from the barn." The hybrid said, happily munching on the delicious donut.
Hooo boy this took a while, I am very sorry for the lack of updates. Over the last few months, I lost the inspiration to write, and I considered putting this story and everything I wrote on a permanent break. This chapter is a bit short because stretching this far would make the first part of this arc a bit bland. Honestly, this whole part was more of a trial run and I'm satisfied, to say the least about it. I promise the next part will be fun to read. I also want to say that I am considering reviving a second chance, but that is highly unlikely since I am still working on this story and a few other projects. The last thing I want to do is thank you to everyone who favored and followed this story, it may be small in comparison to other great fics out there, but it warms my heart to see this many people liking what I wrote.
