Chapter 20: The Black Mage

"DAMN IT! DAMN IT! DAMNIT!"

I kept screaming as I slammed my hands against the floor. I had been locked inside my own room by my mother to stop me from escaping the guild. Tartaras, one of the major dark guilds. All the members were demons from the book of Zeref and I was one of them. My whole life had been a lie. My mother had told me that I had been born like any other human, but that I had been given false memories and left at a random I had met Jellal and his family, they took me in and cared for me until the village was raided by cultists that took me and Jellal to the tower of paradise. Zeref had created me so that if I died I would return to my mother and be healed. The healing process had taken a bit more than six years and because of that I had lost most of my strength. I was able to summon my lightning, but hurting any of the demons was out of the question. My mother had manhandled me as I snapped at her after she told me that Fairy Tail was no more.

"WHY DID YOU HAVE TO GO AND DIE! YOU FUCKING IDIOT! YOU FAILED THEM! YOU LET YOUR OWN FAMILY DIE!" I screamed while punching the floor, breaking it as I did.

According to my mother (and the other demons) only a few members were left of Fairy Tail, as most had left after Fairy Tail stopped being the top guild. I hated it. I was stuck in a literal hellscape while my family needed me. I had tried to punch my way out, but my punches did nothing to the walls, I only ended up hurting myself.

"JUST LET ME OUT!" I begged. "LET ME OUT! PLEASE! Someone… Please help me…"

"This is not what I expected from you… Fulgur…"

I turned around and my jaw dropped.

"You…"

A young man dressed in white and black robes, with jet-black hair and sad eyes was standing in my room. His dark eyes met mine and I had an urge to both kill him and fall to my knees.

"It's been a long time Fulgur… Destiny really likes to play games with me…" He tapped his finger against a book he was holding.

I knew who he was…

"Zeref…"

"In the flesh!"

"How…? This room…"

"Entering a room sealed by my own creation is no problem for me… And it should not be a problem for you either! I remember I made you as powerful as I could… Did you fail that badly as an experiment?"

"I… I lost my powers… " I stuttered.

"I see… Well that was within my estimates… Not a complete failure then… Only half of one!"

"Why?" I fell to my knees.

"Huh? What now?"

"Why did you create me? Why was I born like a normal human? WHY DID YOU DRAG ME AWAY FROM MY FAMILY!?"

The black mage held a finger to his mouth.

"Quiet, Fulgur! I don't want the rest of your brothers and sisters to find out I am here, their time has not come yet! But to answer your question... " He sighed. "I created all my demons to see if they can finally kill me."

"What…?"

"One day I might explain it further. But for now I have no intention of explaining anything regarding it, so just hear me out!" He sat down on the bed. "Everyone of my demons are special, everyone has a unique quirk. Yours is that you were born naturally, like a human. I did this experiment to see if you could grow stronger than my other demons. I let Irkalla, your mother so to say, birth you. After that I decided to let you live with humans and learn from them. Perhaps you could learn something useful from them, grow stronger than the rest of the demons and kill me. I am sorry for what happened to you and your friends… At least I think I am sorry…"

From his expression and speech I doubted that he felt the least bit sorry. His gaze felt cold and distant. His aura alone made me want to crawl up into a ball and die.

"I intended for you to become one of my strongest demons… But now I fear that you might be the weakest…"

"So you are going to kill me!?"

"No… You might still grow stronger… It may take years… But that is fine… As long as the result is my death. But until then I ask you to play nice with the rest of the demons and try to adapt rather than fight it all."

"As long as Fairy Tail exists I won't join your little family of freaks…" I growled.

"Harsh words… Your mother is part of those freaks, remember?"

"I only ever had one parent and he died six years ago…"

"I see… So they did leave a mark on you…"

"Mark!"

I checked my shoulder, my Fairy Tail emblem was not there, it had been erased. Another reminder that my life as a member of Fairy Tail was over.

"I have business to attend to. I only came here to see how strong you are and sadly you disappoint me." He waved his hand and a burst of magic slammed me into the wall behind me.

I coughed up blood and my eyes darkened.

"My young Fulgur. I won't kill you… But you better grow stronger and fast! Soon the final war will start, but until then…"

"Wait…" I hissed.

"Huh?"

"That name… It is not mine… My name is Luke!"

"That is your human name… Your real name, that I gave you, is Fulgur… The Demon of Lightning!"

Zeref waved his hand again and I fell into a deep slumber.

I had horrible nightmares. I could hear the screams of my friends and loved ones call out to me. Master, Natsu, Grey, Lucy, Mira Jane…. Erza… I tried to find them but I was being dragged down into the ground by black tendrils. I screamed out in pain and anger as I relived the nightmare over and over again.

"I just want to help them!" I screamed. "Take me, let them live! Please! They don't deserve to die! I do! Just take me!" I screamed into the void.

"There is no need to be asking for death, young one!"

My eyes slowly opened I was blinded. A white, shining light had appeared in my room. I had to squint quite a bit to even see what produced the light.

"A… Girl?" I asked, dumbfounded.

"I am so happy to finally meet you Luke!" She sat down in front of me and her aura calmed me as she patted my head. "I am Mavis…"

"I have heard that name before…Master Makarov told me something… "

"Yeah… Your memories of Fairy Tail never left you, so my plan will work!"

"What plan?" I asked worriedly.

"A plan that will reunite you with our family!" She chuckled.

"Our?" I repeated.

"I guess a proper introduction is in order… I am Mavis Vermillion, I am the first master of the Fairy Tail guild!"

And that is chapter 20! Wow, I didn't think I would get to write these many chapters. This fanfic is like a short book now. I hope you enjoyed the chapter!
