Sonny follows Liam's directions to the waiting room the second he shows up in the next town over. He won't let himself think for even a second about Will being in a coma in one of the beds here, completely unlike Will in their own bed, how warm he is, how he secretly loves being the big spoon, the way the morning sun lights up his eyes once he opens them, the love pouring out of them when Sonny's the first thing he sees.

When he walks into the waiting room, he almost takes a step back in shock. Almost every person in Melas is here, gathered and huddled, talking softly. They're all in comfortable clothing, like they'd just been getting ready for bed, and had jumped into their cars the second they'd gotten the call. He knows Liam and Eli personally, Viv, his boss, Marnie, a couple of the people that work for them at the firm, Ms. Mo with pins in her hair, even the trash guy. But there's others as well, people he recognizes as residents of Melas but doesn't know, people that care about Will. Sonny has to fight back the urge to collapse from the sudden emotion.

Eli sees him first, and breaks away from his dad to go straight towards him. He grabs Sonny to wrap his arms around his waist, and on autopilot, Sonny catches him, patting his back.

"Sonny, I'm so sorry." Eli cries. "If he wasn't distracted by my problems he would-- he would've been working, wouldn't have gotten your texts. He was so sweet, and I--."

"It's not your fault." Sonny tells Eli adamantly, holding onto his arms as he backs away. "That's just how Will is. I'm the one who texted him."

"It's not your fault either, Sonny." Liam replies, pulling his son back. All of their eyes are bloodshot, and once again Sonny's shocked by how many people are here.

Will's been in the hospital so many different times, Sonny praying Will was gonna pull through, and he'd thankfully never been alone. It had made him so unbelievably thankful over the years, seeing all of Will's family wait to hear he was going to be okay, wait to hear if he'd survived.

"H-have you seen the doctor?" Sonny asks Liam, moving into the room, nodding at the group that's formed for the man they've all come to love.

"Won't talk to anyone who's not family." Liam replies, the frustration making it clear how hard he's been trying to find out anything other than if he's alive. "I'll get Viv to find a nurse. Viv?"

In no less than five minutes, someone in a white lab coat follows Viv into the waiting room, and Sonny stands up, setting down the weak coffee Ms. Mo had shoved into his hand.

"Family for William Hortrakis?" He asks, and Sonny waves a hand. "Relation?"

Sonny almost says cousin, but he looks down on his ring, and says very clearly, for the first time since moving to Melas, "Husband."

There's a collective gasp from the townsfolk behind him, at hearing the confirmation that their suspicions about them were right all along.

The doctor nods, gesturing for him to follow. Once they're alone, he tells Sonny, "I'm his doctor. Your husband was hit on the left side by a truck speeding through a stop sign. When the driver hit the breaks, he hit some black ice, which caused a second crash, which made the car Mr. Hortrakis was driving spin before hitting a streetlight. He's currently in a coma with severe swelling in the brain, a punctured lung, some internal bleeding, but thankfully we were able to stop it. He's got three broken ribs, and a fractured ulna."

Here, the doctor pauses, which only tells Sonny it's about to get so much worse, and he's proven right when he says, "However, it would appear that while the damage was severe enough on its own, the accident seems to have caused something in his brain to make itself known. He's had a CT scan, and I'm very sorry to be the one to tell you this. Your husband has a brain tumor, which sent him into cardiac arrest, and while he has a pulse now, there's a chance he might not make it."

The second the words reach his ears, Sonny wishes more than anything right now the earth will swallow him whole, or better yet, that he'd just pass out, because that would be preferable to what he just heard. "I need to see him. Please."

The doctor gives him a once over, sighing, "Of course. But I need to warn you, it's a very unsettling sight. He's really mangled up, the glass from the windows cut up his face."

Sonny doesn't even bother responding to that. His husband is dying, what's a few scrapes on the face?

Will definitely looks like he's dying. His husband's beautiful face is covered in cuts and swollen, a breathing tube taped against his lips making them look pale, completely unlike the dark pink Sonny's always loved. His left arm is in a cast, strapped to his side, like he's holding it against his broken ribs, even comatose. His hands and arms are covered in cuts and bruises, and Sonny reaches out a hand to run a hand down them just to feel Will's warm skin, telling him some part of Will is still in there.

Sonny grabs a chair, shoving it towards Will's bedside. "My god." He sobs, clasping Will's hand in both of his. "I told you, you idiot. If you'd just let me buy you a safer car, you wouldn't have been hurt. I told you so many times what a piece of junk that car was."

Tears flood his eyes, but he's not letting them fall. Will would be so mad if he knew he was crying at his bedside, because he has to wake up. He has to. Sonny's never given up hope, always believed in Will, and he never stopped believing they'd find their happily ever after, not for a second. Instead of putting him on a pedestal, Sonny's always stood on it right there next to Will, and he's not about to give that up, not for anything.

He gets himself as comfortable as he can, because the Melas and Salem police force, whatever Leo thinks he can dish out, and even Ben fucking Weston can show up, but there's no way in hell he's going anywhere. He's going to be right here when, that's right, when Will pulls himself out of this.

"Hang on Will, please." He whispers, clasping Will's left hand in both of his, so he can see the way his ring looks shining over them.

"Come back to me. We're finally together again. Everything we've ever wanted is right here for the taking. I can't even imagine doing it without you. So you have to pull through this. I need you to pull through this"
