Chapter 22: Team Minato
It had been a few days since Obito became genin, he sat with his two new teammates. Nohara Rin and Uchiha Yuki one of the two girls on each side. Being on the same team as Rin was like a dream come true. It`s not like he had a crush on her or anything.
Having Yuki on the same team was a different story. The young boy couldn`t understand as to how Yuki, one of his many cousins could of graduated. She missed half of the lessons at the Academy during winter and it didn`t make any sense as to how she passed the exams when clearly she shouldn`t of been able to. But here she was with the Konoha hitai- ate tied proudly around her neck. Obito was brought out of his thoughts when a jonin appeared before the class in a flash of yellow.
The man had blonde hair and blue eyes, the standard jonin west and hitai- ate with the Konoha symbol on it. ˝Team seven meet me on training field 3.˝ And the man disappeared again in a flash.
Obito and the two girls made their way to said training field to meet their new sensei. Yuki was for some unknown reason exited. It left the white haired girls two teammates confused.
They soon came upon training field 3 and were greeted by the blond from before and a silver haired boy their age. Yuki ran ahead of her teammates all the while transforming into her white and blue wolf form and she called the name of said boy witch neither Obito nor Rin have heard it in a long time.
˝Kakashi!˝ The white she wolf called to the now also silver furred wolf, both rubbed their heads in greeting.
˝Wait! You two know each other?˝ Obito asked.
Kakashi broke from his greeting in order to glare at the dark haired boy. ˝Got a problem with that?˝
Obito looked away from the silver wolf and mumbled something that only Yuki and Kakashi heard, but the two wolves didn`t say anything.
Yuki, the kind soul spoke in a soft voice. ˝My dad and his mom were both from the Oina Tribe. We both trained under Oki`s teachings during winter for the last five or so years.˝
The blonde was the only one who caught on Yuki`s obvious lie on which he did not comment on and was the next to speak. ˝Now that this is out of the way, let`s start with introductions.˝
The four looked in confusion then Obito spoke. ˝Uh. Sensei? How exactly are we supposed to introduce ourselves?˝
˝You can start with your likes, dislikes, dreams for the future and hobbies.˝ The blond answered.
˝Why don`t you introduce yourself, so we will know how it`s done.˝ Rin said.
˝My name is Namikaze Minato. I like ramen, my girlfriend Kushina, I don`t like it when Jiraya- sensei embarrass me.˝ His students chuckled or giggled at the man. ˝My dream for the future is to one day become Hokage. My hobbies are spending time making seals.˝ The man rubbed the back of his neck. ˝Who`s next?˝
Yuki was next to speak. ˝I`m Uchiha Yuki. I like going to Kamui, where me and Kashi train with Oki during winter and learn a lot of new things. I don`t like bullies that think that they are better than others. My dream for the future is to become as good a warrior as I can be. My hobbies are hunting, reading and looking after some of the younger pups.˝
Rin spoke next. ˝I am Nohara Rin. I like well...˝ The girl looked at the silver head, causing Yuki to quietly growl at the girl. ˝I don`t like fighting very much. My dream for the future is to become a medical ninja. Ma hobbies are reading books about healing techniques and herbs.˝
Obito pretty much shouted his introduction for the whole world to hear. ˝I`m Uchiha Obito. I like ramen and playing with Chibi whenever he`s here. I don`t like idiots like him.˝ The boy pointed at Kakashi whom glared back. ˝My dream for the future is to become the best Hokage ever.˝ and my hobbies are spending time with my friends.˝
Everyone looked at Kakashi whom was ignoring them, Yuki for her part elbowed her friend and glared at him.
˝Grumble. I`m Hatake Kakashi. Things I like and things I don`t. I don`t feel like telling you that… My dreams for the future. Never really thought about that. As for my hobbies, well I have lots of hobbies.˝
Yuki shook her head with a smile, Minato sweat dropped, Rin and Obito on the other hand just stared at their silver haired teammate.
Minato coughed and the god looked at him with a glare. ˝What?!˝
The blonde gave his student a look and made a motion with his head.
The boy sighted. ˝Fine. I like miso soup with eggplant and I don`t like sweets. I`m still not telling you about my dreams for the future. Still do I even have a dream or is everything already set in stone for me. My hobbies are reading, drawing, training and hunting.
˝You like drawing?˝ Obito asked unable to comprehend the whole idea of Kakashi of all people having the patience to draw. He only thought of the younger boy as a jerk and nothing else.
˝Got a problem with that?˝ The chunin growled.
Obito raised his hands in surrender. ˝No. And you don`t have to be a jerk about it!˝
Yuki and Minato only smiled and looked at each other knowing how talented the chunin is. Having seen his work of art that would make even the most famous of artists jealous.
Minato chuckled. ˝Now that this is out of the way let`s start with the second phase.˝ The man gave a giant smile and pulled out three silver bells each hanging on a red string. ˝The four of you will have until noon to take these bells from me.˝
Obito asked the question that was in everyone`s heads. ˝Why are there only three bells if there are four of us?˝
The man gave them a big grin. ˝That is exactly the point, so that at least one of you four will end up tied up to one of those posts while the others and I myself eat in front of them.˝
This revelation left the newly graduated genin dumbfounded while Kakashi smirked at their expressions, well obviously not Yuki whom was the only person he considered a friend.
˝Good luck and come at me with the intent to kill.˝ With those words the four students each went their way. Obito and Rin one way with both wolves following silently behind them.
Both humans hatched a plan that later on failed, but the wolves took advantage of it and each got a bell. At the end all four of them passed even though Kakashi and Yuki inevitably used their teammates for which they didn`t feel guilty at all.
Minato took them to Ichiraku for ramen.
Minato taught his new students mostly in ninjutsu, taijutsu and some fūinjutsu. It was hilarious to see whenever Obito messed something up and the boy would be rewarded with a spike of chakra sent his way.
Rin and Yuki didn`t have too much problems with drawing seals. The medic had perfect chakra control. The she wolf sometimes met the same fate as her cousin, but otherwise she did great.
Kakashi on the other hand made seals without mistakes, having learned most of them ever since he became Minato`s student.
The four also kept improving on their hand to hand combat and nature releases. The students being pitied against each other or to fight the blond.
All in all it wasn`t too bad, but that wouldn`t be a team without some shenanigans in the mix. There are a lot of stories about those.
Such as that one time when the four somehow pranked Jiraya in a very humiliating way. Let`s just say that the man never looked at any and all fire jutsu`s the same way.
It involved Kakashi teaching his three teammates the Thousand Years of Death. And Jiraya stayed wary of anyone and everyone who ever learned that technique.
It was nearing winter and that year it was decided that Kakashi and Yuki wouldn`t be going to Kamui. Needless to say that both pups did a lot of sulking. Kakashi came to training on time whereas Yuki came a bit later (she wasn`t as late as Obito), the she wolf went hunting just before training or missions. Still Kakashi was a lot more forgiving to her than her cousin. Kushina said that it was because the god had a crush on her, mostly leaving the white haired girl red faced at the thought of being liked by not just her best friend, but a god nonetheless.
Thus brings us to now. They were training in one of the snow covered training grounds when said training was interrupted. There was a howl in the distance and not a friendly one at that. Both Kakashi and Yuki transformed into their four legged forms, looked into the direction that the howl had originated from and their hackles rose.
The other three would of probably dismissed the howl if it weren`t for the two wolves tensed and thus each of the humans pulled out a kunai. Prepared for an attack and ready to fight if the need should arise.
Out of the tree line emerged a red and blue wolf, one of the biggest canines both Rin and Obito had ever laid their eyes upon. They had seen the Inazuka clans dogs that were big, but this one took the cake. The two genin relaxed soon after Minato lowered his kunai. But what happened next was definetly not what either of the humans saw coming.
For the red and blue wolf lunged in clear show of aggression towards the three. But before the beast could even lay a claw both Kakashi and Yuki pounced and sank their fangs into their opponent. The silver wolf held onto the older wolves shoulder and kept on clawing with his claws, while Yuki stubbornly held onto the elder`s neck. Even if she wanted to, neither she nor her companion were yet strong enough to bite through the main artery or break a neck of either a wolf, human or bigger prey animals.
There was a lot of snarling and growling. The three wolves moved in a deadly dance of fangs and claws. The older wolf took hold of one of Yuki`s hind legs and threw her across the field. She rolled a few times before she came to a stop and didn`t get up, she lay in the snow observing the fight.
Soon after the red and blue beast sank it`s fangs into Kakashi`s scruff and threw the silver wolf into another direction. Contrary to his friend the young god turned in the air and landed safely on his paws just like a cat and shook himself.
The older wolf then shifted into a man with blue and red clothes, a bear mask covering his face and long black hair. Soon after both Kakashi and Yuki turned into their human forms as well.
Yuki was the first to greet the man. ˝Oki! What are you doing here? I mean it`s not like I`m not happy to see you or anything. I just didn`t expect to see you here, since you don`t really leave Kamui and…˝ The girl didn`t get to finish her sentence since Kakashi put his hand over her mouth.
The man, Oki chuckled. ˝I see neither of you has changed much.˝ The man then turned towards the others. ˝So you must be Minato, Obito and Rin.¨
The jonin rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. ˝Yeah. And you must be Oki. Yuki and Kashi always talk about you and your battles. They kinda like to talk about them a lot. Especially your and Amaterasu`s fight against Lechku and Nechku.˝
Obito was the next to speak. ˝Does that mean that you`re an Oina like Bakakashi and Yuki?˝
Oki growled silently, not loud enough for human ears, but loud for both the pups to hear. ˝Yes, I am. Altough there is a bit of a difference between Yuki and Kakashi.˝
Rin cocked her head to the side in confusion. ˝What do you mean sir? I mean both of them are of the Oina tribe.˝
Oki hummed somewhat pleased that the girl wasn`t like Obito towards Amaterasu`s pup. ˝The Oina Tribe are pretty much just humans that shift into wolves. Whereas Kakashi, his mother and grandfather are the wolves that shift into humans.˝
The Uchiha came to a realization. ˝Wait! Does that mean that Bakakashi`s true form is a wolf and not a human.˝
˝That is correct. Kakashi is from a far more ancient and purer bloodline of wolves unlike the Oina Tribe.˝
Rin and Obito were surprised. They had always thought that Kakashi was an Oina just like Yuki, but it seemed that they had been wrong. The only ones whom weren`t surprised with the revelation were the pups and Minato whom knew that Oki had just twisted up the truth a bit. The people that the truth the better.
Minato broke the silence. ˝Let`s get going, Kushina`s probably wondering where we are. We are supposed to meet up with at Ichiraku`s in a few.˝
The four children ran towards said noddle shop, leaving the two men on their own.
˝You`re welcome to come as well.˝ The blond said.
The wolf looked at the blond and shook his head. ˝I just came to see those two. The elders think it`s too dangerous to travel. Especially now when the war is at it`s peak.˝
Minato nodded. ˝I understand. Good luck on your journey then.˝ With those parting words the blond followed his students.
Oki stood there in silence for what seemed like hours, but was in all reality just minutes. He shifted into his wolf form and whispered. ˝Dark times are coming. Good luck Yuki,… Chibiterasu.˝
Then he disappeared into the forest making his journey back home to Kamui.
It was a boring day and the three genin and chunin were doing one of the most horrifying of jobs of all, babysitting. And no they weren`t keeping an eye on just any kid, it just so happened to be the Uchiha clans head son Itachi and his best friend Shisui.
Both Obito and Yuki have had experience looking after the two boys before. Yuki thought of them as a mild version of Oina pups (Oina pups can be devils, just ask Kakashi and Yuki), while Obito thought of them as troublemakers.
Kakashi wasn`t too fond of watching either human kids or Oina pups. And Rin thought of everything small as cute and not able to cause any trouble, which earned her weird looks from her teammates that she shrugged off.
Thus Team 7 was stuck looking over the two brat- I mean toddlers. They had abandoned reading books in exchange of drawing. The humans and god were helping the two youngsters whilst Yuki moped in a corner of the room.
The two boys had thrown paint at her prior to her sulking and now her favourite poncho that she had gotten for her last birthday from her best friend chough- really crush- chough Kakashi now had green paint all over it. The she wolf almost went on a rampage if it hadn`t of been for Kakashi whom had held onto her by her scruff.
After come minutes of calming down Yuki had sat in the corner moping and ignoring the two youngsters. Leaving the other three to deal with the brat- again sorry toddlers. Currently the two boys were talking animatedly about Issun`s last story about Amaterasu`s battle with Orochi, while they tried to draw said beast and the goddess herself.
˝And then Amaterasu used the sake to-˝ Itachi was saying but was interrupted by said goddess son.
˝The 8 Purification Sake weaken Orochi over time, by defeating all of it`s heads. At the end of the battle Amaterasu summoned the moon that turned Susano`s sword Tohenboku, that is renamed Susano Blossom when the sword turns gold with a flower and cuts off all of Orochi`s heads and saves his beloved Kushi.˝ Kakashi finishes the story.
The two boys stare wide eyed in wonder at the silver haired chunin, whilst his two human teammates are surprised.
˝And here I thought that you didn`t know of Amaterasu`s battles Bakakashi. Since ya know-˝
Kakashi felt his right eye twitch in annoyance. ˝Since what crybaby?˝
˝Oi. I`m not a crybabay you Baka.˝
The god just scoffed.
˝Did you just scoff at me!? Why you?˝
Rin cut in before there could be a fight. ˝What Obito means is that we`ve never seen you around when Issun tells his stories.˝
Kakashi gave them a look. ˝ Is a Celestial Envoy, his job is to spread the faith of many into the gods so of course he travels everywhere. He`s been to Wep`keer at least a few times.˝
˝Ohh!˝ The two humans said, it made a lot of sense.
It was also when the three noticed one very important fact, the two brats were missing!
Kakashi cursed and Yuki punched him in the shoulder. Obito and Rin were panicking. But the four preteens quickly regained their composure and started searching for the two kids around the house. But all their leads turned up empty.
˝Me and Kakashi will track them down in our wolf forms you two stay here in case if they return.˝ Yuki said without even letting the two humans get a word in the two wolves disappeared out of sight.
The trail quite literally led out of the Uchiha clans compound into the forest. The two wolves came upon a chilling scene. Their two charges were tied up, unconscious and surrounded by an ANBU squad. But the shocking thing was that this was the Konoha ANBU standing there and probably observing the two wolf pups whom just arrived.
Both Kakashi and Yuki shifted into their human forms hoping to somehow talk to the men and woman (they have better sense of smell than humans) and make them release the two boys.
But before either of them could say anything the ANBU attacked them. The two came back to back and gave nods to each other before turning back into their wolf forms and retaliating against the squad. The two wolves didn`t win per see since the squad melted into the shadows and disappeared without a trace leaving the two wolves and kids in their wake.
The two wolves took both Itachi and Shisui back to the Uchiha clan compound and didn`t mention a thing about ANBU.
Team 7 had been together for about three years (that is a different story), the couple had decided to invite all of Minato`s students for dinner (Kakashi kinda lives with them) to celebrate Kakashi`s promotion to jonin adn Yuki`s, Rin`s and Obito`s promotion to chunin. The team minus Yuki whom was in Kamui would be going on a mission the very next day.
The five of them were enjoying the quiet evening around the table. Unaware of the tragedy that would befell them in the years to come.
Thus this brings us to the part when Yuki was in Kamui for a three year training, since there also has to be the part as towhat happened to her when she wasn`t in Konoha. So let`s start at the beginning but close. It started when the she wolf meet three siblings, in actuality one of them still hadn`t of been born by then, well get to it when we do. Anyway it started with a brother and sister.
Their coat looked like that of a lynx. The male one had blue eyes, his fur was a light green with a dark blue underbelly and black spots. Whilst his sister was a soft almost white pink and blue underbelly and black spots and the most beautiful purplish blue eyes that Yuki had ever seen. Their names were Midoriiroyamaneko and Pinkuyamaneko or Green Lynx and Pink Lynx respectively.
Yuki met the two siblings together with Kakashi. The two of them didn`t go all ´Wow you`re a god! Can you do this and that for me pretty please?´ No the twins were pretty chill around the god, treating him like they would any other Oina and it wasn`t much of a surprise when the four of them became good friends.
And just like in any other pack, the Oina also have different ranks. Such as healers, trackers, hunters, warriors, merchants, priest, elders, chief and so on. Different member`s trained for different ranks in order to keep the tribe taken care of. But all youngsters still needed to know as to how to do defend and hunt to at least some extent.
Both Yuki and Midoriiro were training to be healers while Pinku trained to be tracker. It surprised Yuki the first time she heard the news as to what the two siblings would be training for, but the she wolf shrugged it off in the end.
