Outside Jocelyn is sitting in front of her mother's tree with tears rolling down her eyes
"I'm in way over my head mom" Jocelyn sniffles "I don't know if I did the right thing" she looks down to a photo album on the ground "It's times like this I wish you were here" she picks up a photo of her mom holding her when she was a baby
Inside everyone is processing what Takashi had said
"The anniversary of her mother's death?" Tamaki says
"How long has it been?" Kaoru asks
"10 years" Kyoya answers
Everyone looks at him
"I remember that day very clearly" Kyoya pushes his glasses while everyone looks at him "It made national headlines. 10 years ago today Isabella Kiozumi died in a plane crash on her way to Japan. They never found her body"
"It's also Jocelyn's birthday" Akira adds
Outside Jocelyn is still crying
"It's all my fault mom" she looks at the tree "I wanted you home for my birthday" she picks up a cupcake with a candle that was next to her and she lights the candle "Happy 18th birthday to me"
Inside the group is still discussing Jocelyn's mom
"Why didn't I know this" Tadashi starts to beat himself up
"How is Jocelyn-senpai" Kaoru asks
"She's been depressed all week. She's barely left her room" Akira says
"Can we go see her?" Haruhi asks finally breaking her silence
"She's in her room," Akira says and leads the way to her room but Takashi and Mitsukuni don't follow "Why aren't you guys following her?"
"She won't be in her room," Takashi says
"Then where would she be?" Haruhi asks
"With her mother" Mitsukuni says
Outside Jocelyn continues to speak to her mom
"A girl needs her mom, mom" she wipes her nose "I'm the only one who seems to remember you, dad is too busy with his new girlfriend to even come visit you today" she wipes her tears "The trees are gonna bloom for the first time this year. You were supposed to be here to see them. Dad planted them for you" her voice cracks "I love you mom"
Haruhi sits and bows before the tree
"Haruhi what are you doing here?" Jocelyn wipes tears
"We were worried about," Haruhi says
"Worried?" Jocelyn sniffles
"You didn't show up to school for a week," Haruhi tells her
"I'm sorry, this has been a difficult week" Jocelyn wipes her tears
"Trust me I know the feeling senpai," Haruhi tells her and has this sort of sad look on her face
"That's right you lost your mother too" Jocelyn looks to her
"Yeah it's been 10 years for me as well," Haruhi says
"How do you deal with it?" Jocelyn asks
"By doing what you do, only a little less crying" Haruhi laughs and for the first time this week so does Jocelyn
"I'm always giving my mom updates on what's going on with me and asking her to keep watching over me," Haruhi says
"Do you feel like she does?" Jocelyn asks
"All the time" Haruhi has this soft happy yet sad look on her face
"I was starting to forget" Haruhi looks at Jocelyn
"Usually during this week every year I just stay home and sit next to this tree but the last three years I was in London but still I always took this week to mourn my mother but this year…" tears threaten to escape "This year I completely forget. I didn't even realize what week it was until my father pointed out he was surprised I went to school at the beginning of the week"
"You think you're forgetting," Haruhi says softly
"Aren't I?" tears are coming down her cheeks
"No, you're not. She's always with you" Haruhi tells her
"How do you know?" Jocelyn says with a cracked voice
"Because I feel like my mother is always with me. So I'm sure your mom is always with you….watching you…. Protecting you"
Jocelyn looks at Haruhi then looks up at the tree and reads her mother's name. she closes her eyes and takes a deep breathe "Happy Birthday Josie"
Jocelyn quickly opens her eyes and looks around but the only person next to her is Haruhi "Did you say something?" Jocelyn asks
"No" Haruhi looks at her confused
Jocelyn looks back at the tree "She's always been here hasn't she"
"Yeah she has" Haruhi gives her a small smile
"Thanks for coming Haruhi" Jocelyn puts her hands on Haruhi's
"I'm always here" Haruhi gives her hand a squeeze
Jocelyn clears her throat and stands up "I'm assuming since you're here the others are too"
"They are" Haruhi stands up as well
"Let's not keep them waiting" the picture Jocelyn has she puts in on top of the plaque and the two of them walk back to the house
"Well you guys are a sight for sore eyes" Jocelyn smiles
"And you are a sight to behold princess" Tamaki bows to her
"Are you ok Jocelyn?" Mitsukuni asks
"I am Mitsukuni and it's all thanks to Haruhi" Jocelyn smiles at her and she smiles back "I'm sorry I worried all of you"
"We're sorry we didn't realize what was going on," Tadashi says
"It's ok" Jocelyn gives him a soft smile "Would you guys like to meet my mom?" Jocelyn ask
"It would be an honor," Tamaki says and Jocelyn leads them all to the tree "Mom I'd like you to meet my friends. You remember Kyoya, Hikaru and Kaoru. I know it's been a long time since you have seen them."
"It's good to see you again Mrs. Kiozumi" Hikaru and Kaoru bow
"We've been taking good care of Jocelyn" Kyoya bows as well
"I'd like you to meet my new friends Tadashi Tamaki and Haruhi," Jocelyn says
"I'm glad I meet Jocelyn" Haruhi bows
"Thank you for bringing us this amazing person" Tamaki bows
"I promise to always treasure her" Tadashi bows
They all sit in front of the tree and pray
"Akira" Jocelyn pulls her friend aside "I'm sorry I've only been thinking about myself. How are you feeling"
"I'm ok," Akira tells her
"You sure? I know I keep acting like my mom was the only one on that plane but you're mom was there too" Jocelyn says
"I know but I've made peace with it a long time ago," Akira tells her
"Guess I'm the only one that hasn't" Jocelyn sighs
"Hey don't be upset. It's understandable why you can't let this go. You and your mother had the most amazing dynamic I've seen for mother and daughter. The bond you two share was unbelievable" Akira tries to reassure her "You're mother had a presence like no other person I've known before….except one other person"
"Who?" Jocelyn asks
"You" Akira smiles at her "You have the same energy and talent as your mother. So no matter what happens your mother will always be with you" Akira grabs Jocelyn's hand and gives it squeeze
"Thank you" Jocelyn hugs her
"I'm not the fittie you should be hugging," Akira says confusing Jocelyn when Akira points to Takashi
Jocelyn walks over to Takashi who is behind everyone as they pray
"Hey" Jocelyn walks next to him and faces the group "Thanks for coming and I'm sorry if I made you worry" she sighs "I don't know how long before I won't be like this. She was just so important to me"
"She's proud of you," Takashi says surprising Jocelyn "You've become an amazing and beautiful woman Jocelyn, she's proud of you I can feel it"
"Even with her gone you can still feel like she's right here" Jocelyn smiles at him
"Yeah I can" Takashi smiles at her and without noticing the two hold hands
"Hey" Jocelyn calls out to her friends and they all look at her. They all notice the two holding hands but say nothing except Tadashi's visibly upset face "I don't know if you guys know this but It's my birthday today as well. Would you guys like to stay and celebrate with me?" She asks
"Of course," Tadashi says
"We would be honored," Tamaki says
"Great but this is so last minute so it's not going to be anything big and I haven't actually had a party in 10 years," Jocelyn says
"You haven't had a birthday cake in 10 years?" Mitsukuni says shocked
"I'm afraid not" Jocelyn chuckles nervously
"Don't worry we have taken care of everything?" Tamaki says
"What do you mean?" Jocelyn asks but everyone just grins "What are you guys up to?"
"You'll see" Akira smiles
"Akira you're in on this too?" Jocelyn asks smiling
"Close your eyes" Akira giggles
