Passions, Chapter 27

Hand in hand, he would lead her, and she would always follow. Without reserve, without remorse, as if blinded by his glory did she pursue him, and she would do so until the end of her days. To Kagome, he was unyielding warmth, the acceptance and completion she'd been seeking since she arrived in the Feudal Era. He was the first person she yearned in the mornings and the last being she wished to see at night.

Whether their problems with Naraku were resolved did not matter to Kagome, not in that moment. To be held in Sesshomaru's arms as she slept, her belly round and full with his child, was an intimacy that she'd never forget.

And to have him visibly soften upon the sight of her. Kagome could not help the way she melted. Regardless of the unbridled love brought on by rampant hormones, she was…still relatively weary by his reserve and lack of interest in their daughter's name.

It was as if he did not want a daughter at all!

Perhaps he…figured that he already had a daughter in Rin, but Kagome knew that no matter how she tried to guess, she would never be able to decipher Sesshomaru as his lover. The guy was even an enigma to his own mother. What chance did she have in figuring him out?!

Lips pursing, she watched his face as he slept, Rin curled up and sleeping soundly between them.

"….Why do you not sleep?" Sesshomaru asked, his voice heavy with slumber as he turned his head away from her, his eyes still glued shut

Kagome could not help the smile that threatened to spill over her features. Seeing the regal daiyoukai so undone and "sullying" himself by acting as a pillow and comfort to two mortals that knew nothing beyond his affection. "…If you were sleeping, you wouldn't have noticed me staring…" She whispered back to him as to not wake Rin.

"I never realized humans could make such keen observations."

Words hat made her drop a pillow on his face. He removed it with a barely audible grunt.

"…Did you not want a daughter?" Kagome abruptly asked, now seated upright with the blankets spilling over her belly.

Sesshomaru was not surprised that she noticed his…dejection. It was truly irrelevant at this point. He disliked dwelling on it, but the fact remained that Kagome's life span was a mere blink compared to his own. Their romance would be a tragic one.

When she passed on to the other world, he would take another mate. Their pup would still be just that—a pup. She would not even see her first century before her mother passed away. Then, he would be obligated to take another mate to help govern his lands, so none of it was of any consequence….

Which was far from the truth, yet logic dictated as such.

"Any child born of you will be treasured…" Because that child will be a constant reminder of Kagome for the remainder of his days, a constant reminder of the mortal that he'd fallen so hard for. Their relationship would only be a blink in his lifetime, and in a strange way, it was why he cherished it so much.

Mere seconds were precious to them….and Sesshomaru was determined to appreciate the small amount of time he would spend with her. It was why he'd humbled himself to remain in the village, despite the mortals, despite Inuyasha, despite anything and everything else.

If their time together would be so little, why spend it whilst she was unhappy? To cater to her was in his best interest, because when he gazed back upon what they had, he wanted to remember her smile and the unadulterated adoration she held for him.

And with such short time afforded them, he'd not waste it on her ire.

Kagome found herself smiling as one of his hands rested on her cheek. Her face burned red in mild embarrassment, especially when his lips fell upon her own in an assuring kiss, which she returned gently. A moment of silence lingered between them, and for a moment, Sesshomaru thought that she would return to sleep. He had no such luck.

"Sesshomaru, I'm concerned about how my body will handle this all, and if something happens, I don't want you to be off in search of Naraku where you can't be reached. I want you to be here with me while I'm pregnant, alright?" She said as she enveloped her arms around Rin, her eyes gazing into his own, "….Please?"

Scared.

She was so frightened by this all, how quickly their relationship escalated. One moment he was injured, and the next they were expecting a baby.

Sesshomaru simply quirked his brow at her. His face clearly read no.

"Sesshomaru, I'm serious. I need you here with me, more now than ever…" She needed his strength and his protection, his calm assurance and beautiful visage that always made her feel as though this all would work out.

As if he would give up pursuing Naraku merely because of her fears. He was a naturally born hunter, he lived for the chase. Nothing would change that, ever. "You speak foolishness. Return to sleep."

Well, nothing would change it, minus her eyes heavily glossing over as her lower lip trembled. That would certainly change things, and quickly!

This emotional side to her pregnancy was new entirely to him, and he hated it, hated it so much that he nearly outwardly cringed. He definitely cringed on the inside however. Seeing Rin cry was hard enough, yet this, this was nothing any of his father's training prepared him for.

Rather it being just a momentarily thing, she nodded her head in acceptance, her eyes falling downcast as those tears nearly escaped her eyes. She was truly wounded by his words. Sesshomaru swore he even heard a small sob!

"Enough of your tears. You shall have as you desire, always." Said as his hands cupped her face as if willing the waterworks to stop.

He'd truly fallen so far from grace.

Kagome became so nauseas in the mornings and often wretched up everything she ate for dinner. It was alarming for Sesshomaru witness the color drain from her cheeks and watch how fatigue overtook her, but the old miko suggested that this was typical of any mortal that was pregnant.

They were frustratingly fragile creatures, and he began to understand why Kagome wanted him near during such a delicate time. The bigger she became, the less morning sick she was, but the more she tossed and turned at night in hopes of getting comfortable.

After a point of feeling her flop around like a fish out of water, Sesshomaru opened his eyes only to find her using him as a pillow to get more so comfortable, and only then did she sleep soundly. Their positions changed on whether or not pressure was being put on her lower back.

Her taste in food even became more so curious. She desired pickled vegetables right before bed and the slightest scents made her nauseas.

All in all, she was becoming completely foreign to him, and the emotional outbursts were growing daily. Jaken found himself scrubbed against the washboard for implying that she had gotten bigger, and she went so far as to hang him out on a line to dry too.

Making note of her weight was NEVER in their mutual best interest, and once she went home for a couple days to be with her family did Sesshomaru have an opportunity to think without interruption and he found himself melancholy.

That was the only word Sesshomaru could use to describe his own mood.

Odd it was for him to linger on something so trivial as a mortal's lifespan. Who would have thought that in such a short time frame, Kagome would change him to such an extent that he barely understood his own decisions?

To allow the wolves that kidnapped her to walk amongst the living was a fool's ploy, but he did it….

He even lowered himself to rest in a human village, no matter how degrading it was, and still, he did it.

He'd taken a break from conquest to be at Kagome's side for the endurance of her pregnancy, and it'd only taken a few tears to get him to bend. A part of him could see himself one-hundred years from now, absent of his two favorite mortals, and restored to his former glory.

….And it would be a lonely existence. He would have his daughter at his side, a constant reminder of the mortal that managed to temporarily snag him.

He would be able to go and come as he pleased, but no matter how he thought of the future, it did not please him… In fact it angered him greatly that with all of his power, with his might, he could save her from everything but time.

There had to be a way for humans to become immortal, and whilst Kagome was away, he planned a visit to the Sky Castle. Surely, if anyone knew of how to make her immortal, his mother did.

….But, would Kagome accept offered and forced immortality?
